In this episode, Noortje van der Sande, founder of the pioneering virtual cinema platform Picl.nl, discusses the innovative ways in which movie marketing and distribution are being transformed. Noortje shares insights into the development of Picl, which allows cinemas to offer films online simultaneously with their theatrical releases. Noortje delves into the concept of the "hybrid consumer" and reveals research that the same people often watch movies both online and in cinemas, making virtual cinema a valuable tool for fostering loyalty among customers. We also explore how offering an online component to in-cinema can enhance the consumer experience and foster a stronger connection to the cinema. About Noortje van der Sande: After a 20+ year career in the film industry Noortje van de Sande is co-owner of film marketing agency Herrie Film & TV. Together with Anke van Diejen, she currently forms the management of virtual cinema platform Picl in The Netherlands and Belgium. She is momentarily conducting research into the new hybrid film consumer and the Creative Europe financed research into the future of Virtual Cinema in Europe under the title REACHM. Together with Babette Wijntjes and Anke van Diejen she is also owner of distribution company Vedette Film.

It can be a bit much at times....On this very special episode we are diving into a piece of cinema that is available now on select virtual and VOD platforms that deals with some of the emotions so many of us out there are struggling with. It's time for 'The Enormity of Life'.After his life hits rock bottom, emotionally despondent Casey (Breckin Meyer,) decides to end it all. But when a timely phone call with some unexpected news about a substantial inheritance forestalls his suicide, it sets off a chain of events that just may save his life including meeting a quirky single mother (Emily Kinney) and her precocious, yet troubled, young daughter (Giselle Eisenberg,), who happens to have an unhealthy obsession with mass shootings. When his bipolar mother goes missing, Casey enlists their help, along with his selfish, estranged sister, Missy (Debra Herzog). And together, through numerous jarring twists and emotional turns, they embark on a journey of hope and healing in The Enormity of Life is a tender, poignant dramedy about life, love and the pursuit of lost innocence. There's a lot of poignant moments and genuine emotional honest in the film and we had the unique pleasure of sitting down with writer/director Eric Swinderman and star Breckin Meyer about the origins of the story and so very much more....

This week on the Film at Lincoln Center podcast we’re presenting a special conversation with Damiano & Fabio D’Innocenzo, the directors of Bad Tales, an Open Roads: New Italian Cinema 2021 selection, moderated by FLC’s Assistant Programmer Dan Sullivan and translated by Michael Moore. Bad Tales is an absorbing, richly traced group portrait of youth on the precipice of puberty, set on the outskirts of Rome. Our protagonists are the children of dysfunctional homes, and we observe them as they go about their daily lives amid the frequently apathetic, at times violent world of adults. An energetic work that is at once a kind of dark fairy tale and a stylish act of sociological inquiry, Bad Tales is a wild ride that captivatingly makes the case that the kids are not, in fact, alright. Bad Tales is now playing nationwide in our Virtual Cinema. Visit filmlinc.org/badtales for tickets.
