- V Celju, kjer so tla poleg Idrije najbolj onesnažena v državi, veliko pričakujejo od vladnega odloka o sanaciji celotnega območja občine. - Domen Prevc preprečljivo dosegel prvo slovensko zmago na uvodni postaji novoletne skakalne turneje.

To celebrate the old bird/broad role models who've appeared on The Shift with Sam Baker I'll be rerunning some of these conversations throughout December and into January. Next up is Australian literary legend Helen Garner who, in her 83rd year has finally broken out in the UK and US and won the Baillie Gifford Prize for her collected diaries, How To End A Story... --- My guest today is the writer Helen Garner. I'm pretty sure that right now you are either going, wow I LOVE her, or looking a bit vague. Because despite being one of Australia's greatest living writers she is surprisingly little known here. But not for much longer because, at the age of 81, she is finally about to see almost all her books in print in the UK and US for the first time. Born in 1941 in Geelong, Victoria, the eldest of six, Helen has lived a fascinating life and one that has found its way into her 13 books. Her debut Monkey Grip, published in 1977 when she was a single mother, is still in print today; her second novel, The Children's Bach (which is where I recommend you start if you've never read her), has been compared with Hemingway and Fitzgerald; and, her true crime classic, This House of Grief, has been declared one of the best books of the 21st century. Not bad for a regular kid from, as she puts it, “an ordinary Australian home - not many books and not much talk.” I was lucky enough to get to chat to Helen (and her chooks) from her home near Melbourne. In fact she kept me up long past my bedtime (!) as we discussed the difficult father-daughter relationship, making peace with the older generations and the emotional impact of being a war baby. She also told me why getting married a fourth time would have been the definition of madness, how she couldn't give a monkeys about the withdrawal of the erotic gaze and why grandmothering has been the greatest pleasure of her life. * You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org. * If you enjoyed this episode and you fancy buying me a coffee, pop over to my page on buymeacoffee.com. • And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com Learn more about your ad choices.

Často plný hádek, nedorozumění i bolesti. A jaké diskuze ještě mají smysl?

All The Everything is Lian's solo show where she dives deep into a topic, often woven around a myth or fairytale that she's been journeying with. The LIVE making of All The Everything is recorded live on YouTube… to join Lian for the one: Make sure you're subscribed to our Moonly News email list and are a member of our Facebook group and we'll let you know when the next one is happening. Lian explores what creates a soulful Christmas, beginning with the way the season stirs old memories and sudden tenderness, then circling through the frantic pace that pulls so many of us away from what we actually long for. She speaks about ancient midwinter traditions flickering beneath the surface of modern life, the hush that falls when the light begins to change, and the quiet ache that arrives when we slow down enough to notice what is really happening inside us. From there the conversation moves into the practices that help you hold your ground in the middle of family dynamics, sensory overwhelm and the expectations that seem to gather in the dark of December, settling finally on how vision, community and small daily gestures shape the kind of Christmas you actually want to live. Listen if you have ever felt both joy and dread rising together, wondered why familiar patterns return each year, or longed for a holiday that welcomes every part of you. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment wherever you are listening or in any of our other spaces to engage. What you'll receive from this episode: How the old rhythms under Christmas reveal themselves once you stop trying to perform the holiday and start listening for what is already moving beneath it Why acknowledging longing, memory and discomfort can create a steadier, warmer Christmas than pushing for cheer ever could What happens when you root your Christmas in real soulful practices rather than pressure, and how this transforms the way you experience community, self-care and the season itself The Soul Practices Lian invited you into:

In the 1960s, at the height of the Mad Men era, Jule Campbell shattered glass ceilings by transforming a struggling magazine into a media empire: the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, the most anticipated annual publication. Chic and controversial, the mastermind behind this titillating page-turner was a creative trailblazer who navigated a male-dominated workplace while simultaneously rebuffing accusations of objectification. Campbell transformed the magazine with her vision to showcase female beauty in a tasteful, artistic manner. Daughter-in-law Jill's documentary chronicles her 32-year reign, where she championed intelligence and empowered supermodels like Christie Brinkley, Cheryl Tiegs, Roshumba Williams, and many others who recall the era and working with her. Weaving together her journey with feminism's evolution, the film explores the changing gaze on beauty, from objectification to body positivity. Through stunning visuals and intimate interviews with a wise, nonagenarian Campbell herself, we witness a legacy that continues to inspire.Jule Campbell, the founding editor of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, is the subject of this documentary. It explores how she transformed a struggling magazine into a publishing powerhouse.Campbell's vision was to create beautiful imagery in exotic locations. She fought to protect the models from objectification while celebrating their beauty. She battled with male editors to find a balance between these two approaches. The documentary portrays Campbell as a resilient and creative trailblazer. She changed the way women are seen in media by showcasing their intelligence and personalities alongside their beauty. She even championed naming the models, who were previously seen as nameless faces.Beyond the Gaze goes beyond Campbell's story. It explores the evolution of feminism and fashion alongside the changing societal views on female bodies in swimsuits. The documentary questions the continued relevance of Campbell's creation in today's world that emphasizes empowerment and inclusion.Ultimately, the film is a celebration of women supporting women. Campbell's mentorship and dedication to her collaborators serve as an inspiration for generations. The documentary's structure follows Campbell's life, reflecting on her legacy and mortality with grace and wisdom. Congratulations on reaching Day 7 of creating your own inner authority and calm. When you intentionally slow your breath, relax your posture, or force yourself to smile (a biological signal of safety), you activate the Vagus nerve. This activation sends a massive inhibitory signal to the amygdala and other stress centers, effectively dampening your panic response. ALL ABOUT THIS WEEK'S SERIES Welcome to The Roman Power Code: 7 Days to Inner Authority and Calm. If you've ever felt your energy drain away in a stressful situation, if your hands shake before a presentation, or if you struggle to maintain focus under pressure, this series is for you. We often try to solve problems of confidence and anxiety with our thoughts—we argue with our inner critic, we try to logically reason our way into feeling secure. But the ancient Romans understood a profound truth: Your body is the source of your authority. The Roman Empire was built on more than just discipline; it was built on an embodied presence that they called Gravitas—a personal weight, seriousness, and undeniable importance. This journey is a practical masterclass in self-command. By the end of this series, you won't just feel more confident—you will have a physical, repeatable, and accessible code to embody that confidence whenever you need it. This is day 7 of a 7-day meditation series, The Roman Power Code: 7 Days to Inner Authority and Calm," episodes 3416-3422. YOUR WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Intentional Micro-Posturing Quest: Check your posture, adjust your shoulders, back, relax your jaw, and hold the Gaze of Authority (steady, calm eye contact). This challenge forces you to consciously apply the Roman techniques in low-stakes situations, building the neural pathways for Embodied Power to become automatic. We explore the codified Roman rhetoric of gestures, revealing how intentional stillness sends a powerful signal of clarity and calm to both your audience and your own nervous system. Finally, we integrate the story of Stoic philosopher Epictetus, who used unwavering hand control as his shield against external turmoil and a testament to his ultimate inner freedom. In ancient Roman times, the voice was considered a weapon. A high-pitched or rushed voice signaled panic; a slow, deep, modulated voice signaled confidence and control. The goal wasn't volume, but resonance, achieved through deep abdominal breathing. Modern Science shares the discovery of Vagus Nerve Toning. Deep, slow breathing—especially extending the exhale—and vocalizing at a lower pitch stimulates the Vagus Nerve, directly lowering heart rate and increasing Heart Rate Variability (HRV). This physiological change instantly shifts you into a state of relaxed control. ALL ABOUT THIS WEEK'S SERIES Welcome to The Roman Power Code: 7 Days to Inner Authority and Calm. Welcome back to The Roman Power Code: 7 Days to Inner Authority and Calm. This is day 1 of a 7-day meditation series, The Roman Power Code: 7 Days to Inner Authority and Calm," episodes 3416-3422. THIS WEEK'S MEDITATION JOURNEY Day 1: Dignity Visualization Day 2: Affirmation: "I command my presence and own my peace." Day 3: Praetor's Pause Day 4: Ganesha mudra for overcoming obstacles Day 5: Seventh Chakra for Interconnectedness Day 6: Mental Focus Flow meditation, combining the week's techniques Day 7: Weekly review meditation and closure SHARE YOUR MEDITATION JOURNEY WITH YOUR FELLOW MEDITATORS Let's connect and inspire each other! If you've ever heard a story and thought, "this should be a movie", then this episode is for you. From flying as a fighter pilot, to being shot down and escaping over the Pyrenees on foot, to later racing in the Grand Prix, Squadron Leader Tony Gaze's life reads like a Hollywood script. Listen as we uncover Tony's fascinating story and legacy.
The visuals are designed to echo the beauty of Campbell's work in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Here's the trailer:Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuuER5o4oys&t=5s Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
