What is a reactionary and why would anybody claim to be one? That's the question I discuss today with Michael Warren Davis, author of The Reactionary Mind: Why Conservative Isn't Enough. Michael has written for Crisis, The American Conservative, and many other magazines. He describes a reactionary not as one pining for a return to a pristine order, but who purposefully reorients one's life toward what is eternal. We discuss the Middle Ages, Savonarola, the Puritans, and others who teach us how societal blessings come to those who pursue eternal things. Nasty Boys member Chace checked in to give an update on the first Steelers tailgate of the year. Award-winning 93.7 The Fan reporter Josh Rowntree joined the show. Josh expects a reduced role for Najee Harris on Sunday and we will see more Jaylen Warren than we saw in week one. He said Najee will get more carries, but Warren will get a “significant” dose. The guys asked Josh about a viral tweet today of TJ Watt moving around a little bit at practice. Josh talked about anything different we could see in the Steelers offense on Sunday, including the presence of George Pickens. Charles Davis from the NFL on CBS joined the show. Charles said he expects some nerves to be calmed down on Sunday since it is week two. He plans on seeing a cleaner offense from the Steelers. He said a lot of what he saw in game one was Mitch Trubisky afraid to make the big mistake, but he hopes there are more downfield shots on Sunday. Charles mentioned a game Trubisky had against the Patriots while he played for the Bears and how successful he was on the ground in what was a near-upset win for Chicago. Charles thinks Bill Belichick will game plan to limit what Trubisky can do with his legs. Charles said Najee Harris looked OK to him in Cincy, health-wise, but he couldn't find a lot of room to run. Charles said Belichick is great at always making opposing players uncomfortable and putting them in spots where they can't make big plays. The guys asked Charles about Belichick making a comparison between Chase Claypool and Rob Gronkowski. He said the Patriots will likely take away most opportunities for the deep ball on Sunday. Charles doesn't want to totally write off the Patriots just yet because Belichick may still have something left up his sleeve. Charles said last week's Steelers-Bengals game was the craziest NFL game he's been in the booth for.

In his latest “Book of the Month” podcast, Phil Lawler speaks with Michael Warren Davis, the author of The Reactionary Mind.
Creating Q*bert and Other Classic Video Arcade Games takes you inside the video arcade game industry during the pivotal decades of the 1980s and 1990s. Warren Davis, the creator of the groundbreaking Q*bert, worked as a member of the creative teams who developed some of the most popular video games of all time, including Joust 2, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, and Revolution X. In a witty and entertaining narrative, Davis shares insightful stories that offer a behind-the-scenes look at what it was like to work as a designer and programmer at the most influential and dominant video arcade game manufacturers of the era, including Gottlieb, Williams/Bally/Midway, and Premiere. Likewise, the talented artists, designers, creators, and programmers Davis has collaborated with over the years reads like a who's who of video gaming history: Eugene Jarvis, Tim Skelly, Ed Boon, Jeff Lee, Dave Thiel, John Newcomer, George Petro, Jack Haeger, and Dennis Nordman, among many others. The impact Davis has had on the video arcade game industry is deep and varied. At Williams, Davis created and maintained the revolutionary digitizing system that allowed actors and other photo-realistic imagery to be utilized in such games as Mortal Kombat, T2, and NBA Jam. When Davis worked on the fabled Us vs. Them, it was the first time a video game integrated a live action story with arcade-style graphics. On the one-of-a-kind Exterminator, Davis developed a brand new video game hardware system, and created a unique joystick that sensed both omni-directional movement and rotation, a first at that time. For Revolution X, he created a display system that simulated a pseudo-3D environment on 2D hardware, as well as a tool for artists that facilitated the building of virtual worlds and the seamless integration of the artist's work into game code. Whether you're looking for insights into the Golden Age of Arcades, would like to learn how Davis first discovered his design and programming skills as a teenager working with a 1960's computer called a Monrobot XI, or want to get the inside scoop on what it was like to film the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Aerosmith for Revolution X, Davis' memoir provides a backstage tour of the arcade and video game industry during its most definitive and influential period.
An excellent conversation with diviner, healer, and author Dylan Warren-Davis. Dylan is the author of the classic guide to cheiromancy (hand reading) - "The Hand Reveals: A Complete Guide to Cheiromancy - the Western Tradition of Handreading." He has been practicing cheiromancy for over 40 years, and his writings on the subject are a wonderful and in-depth introduction to this very ancient art. I really enjoyed reading "The Hand Reveals" and was very glad to sit down and discuss it with Dylan this week. For those interested in the practice of hand reading, he will be leading a course on the work beginning very soon - Feb. 21, and I highly recommend checking it out!Buy "The Hand Reveals" : https://bit.ly/3rR2Xr2Facebook page for the work: https://www.facebook.com/thehandrevealsSign up and find out more about the Cheiromancy course beginning on Feb. 21: https://bit.ly/3sJ6B5cTheme music: Come with Me by JoAnna Farrer.
