The boys are back from Milwaukee after attending the 2025 edition of the Midwest Gaming Classic. We were lucky to be joined by a number of our friends, so tune in and find out all about all of the stupid things we did (bought).
And they said it couldn't be done? Would Zach and Joshua muster the ability to post not one, but TWO ENTIRE episodes of PWOT in just one upload!? Well as the kids say: "The proof is in the pudding!" And here's your proof!! PWOT episodes 179 and 180 are TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!! ONE AMAZING upload!!Ok, for real, we recorded the first episode in front of a live crowd of nearly 30,000 people in the center (THE HEART EVEN) of the Midwest Gaming Classic! It's silly, but if you skip forward about 3 minutes into this episode(s), you'll get to the REAL meat and potatoes of this week's offering! It's WRESTLEMANIA week and our predictions are in!!
Thank you to everyone who visited our booth at the Midwest Gaming Classic this month! It was great to meet you, and thank you for submitting such thoughtful, creative, and funny questions to the show as well. It'll take several episodes to respond to every question, but for now here's a mailbag episode where we answer the first batch, about Smash Bros. characters, potential future Kirby gameplay ideas, and even one notorious recent indie game antihero. If you don't hear your question in this episode, don't worry--we promise to get to it soon!Want to reach out with your own questions or comments about the show? First announced in 2004, Kirby for Nintendo GameCube (which never received an official title beyond that) looked to be an ambitious Kirby adventure for a new console generation. But despite several exciting announcements, screenshots, and trailers that had Kirby fans of the 2000's eagerly anticipating its arrival, the game was quietly canceled, and it would be years before Kirby saw another non-handheld release. What happened to Kirby for GCN, and what kind of game would it have been? There's actually a lot we can piece together, so for this episode Sean, Bridget, and Gigi are going through all the information we can find to assemble a clearer look at a Kirby game that never was.You can watch the trailers for this game and see screenshots on WiKirby: wikirby.com/wiki/Kirby_for_Nintendo_GameCubeYou can also see incredible concept art for the menu screen and other screenshots from the 20th Anniversary Kirby Pupupu Encyclopedia here and here. And here is an impressive mod for Kirby's Return to the Dream Land, by creator Niment, inspired by Kirby for GCN: https://gamebanana.com/mods/247764Come visit our booth at the Midwest Gaming Classic this weekend (April 5th to 6th, 2025). Eh Yo! Let's dive into a new indie arcade game that is being made. This indie arcade game is a little different than some of the others we have covered because it links with a mobile game. Nate with Misfit Studios Joins us this week to talk about their new game CuPong. CuPong is an indie arcade game that started as a mobile game and found a place in a cabinet. After Nate visited Midwest Gaming Classic he saw all of the indie arcade games and was inspired to build a cabinet for CuPong. After some time working on CuPong, Nate has put a heavier focus on how to integrate the mobile game with the arcade cabinet, make the arcade cabinet stand along, and have some exclusives to it. If you want to know more about that you'll have to watch the interview. If you like what we are doing here at Indie Arcade Wave don't forget to like, share, and subscribe. What's better than the recap of a retro video game convention? Well.. how about a recap of a retro video game convention from three months ago? Yeah, we thought you'd like that. -- Stick around and listen to all of the hijinks and shenanigans that the LJN crew took part in during the Midwest Gaming Classic. We get that it all happened in April, but hey.. it's still pretty good. And if you DON'T listen, then you may not ever know the origins of the REAL Pepsiman and SlawDawg.

On the day of our non-denominational Lord, April 7th, 2024, 4 nerds were given a platform for a second time. A platform, not just on the internet, but in a real life place in front of real life people at the Midwestern Gaming Classic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Those 4 nerds dared to ask a dangerous question, "What sport should be added to Wii Sports?" This raucous debate will really have you questioning if you know what a sport is. Andrew is pushing for esports in video games. Kyle is defending an American pastime. Todd is combining two things you didn't know could be combined. The Midwest Gaming Classic (4/4/24) by 96.5 WKLH
The Midwest Gaming Classic is an annual trade show in Milwaukee that features pinball tables, gaming consoles and hundreds of vendors. Before the event saw crowds of over 20,000, it started in the basement of the Boy Scouts Service Center over 20 years ago.
The Cabin is presented by the Wisconsin Counties Association and this week we're featuring Clark County; https://www.wicounties.org/counties/clark-county/The Cabin is also presented by Group Health Trust: www.wcaght.org Campfire Conversation: Eric, Ana, and Jake discuss a variety of places to head in Wisconsin if you're in the mood for a solo trip, and they each go solo in doing so. Ana begins with retreats - always a good choice for a solo venture - including the Wild Rice Retreat in Bayfield, The Christine Center in Clark County, Holy Hill in Washington County, and Holy Wisdom near Middleton. Spas and other nice resorts for good getaways begin to factor in as well, including Blue Harbor in Sheboygan, the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva as well as The Abbey nearby in Fontana, The Edgewater in Madison, and the Sundara Spa in Wisconsin Dells. They're a little different from the retreats; as Anna noted, "Don't go to Holy Hill if you're wanting a massage or a pedicure." With camping, Ana notes Peaceful Pines and the Wild Eagle Lodge in Eagle River; camping in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, where some serious space between you and other people can be found; plus several other lodges. State Recreation Areas and Parks offer great places for solo stays and experiences, too, and that gets covered from several perspectives. A nice solo road trip can help you unwind while you explore, we note good examples in Wisconsin's five designated scenic byways, including the Great River Road, the Lower Wisconsin River Road, the Door County Caoastal Byway, and the Lake Superior Scenic Byway. They offer beauty on the road and great stops along the way, whether or not you have others along for the ride. Rustic Roads offer even more peace and quiet. Jake offers some events to explore on your own, from home shows to the upcoming Midwest Gaming Classic in Milwaukee or the Dairy State Beer & Cheese Festival coming up in Kenosha. There's even a cool tech conference coming up, and he fills you in. Hoo boy those new X-Men ['97] sure are competent superheroes and also universally sexy. Pretty much the opposite of that are the 3 of us dweebs standing in the shadows who all somehow also made the cut and got accepted into Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters despite having superpowers or eshewing raw bisexual energy. Eh, Yo! This week we are excited to announce Food Fight Frenzy. Food Fight Frenzy is an official Atari license developed by Slackerz-Inc and Retro Arcade Remake. Food Fight Frenzy is a 4-player free for all food fight battle royale. Retro Arcade tasked us with turning the classic Atari game Food Fight from 1983 into Food Fight Frenzy for modern arcade bars. We kept the game as retro and classic as possible and added the player vs player aspect to make the game more exciting. Food Fight Frenzy will be debuting at Midwest Gaming Classic 2024 in the Indie Arcade Wave booth alongside other indie arcade games you may already know. Galactic Battleground, DeathBall, Throwback Jai-Alai Heroes, Switch N Shoot, Nidhogg II, Perfect Pour, and more will all be in the booth with Food Fight Frenzy. Stop by and hang out with us. It's Christmas of 1996 and you've just unwrapped the hottest new home gaming console, the Nintendo 64. You're about to be immersed into a game more realistic than your brain can even fathom. Except it's not 1996, it's 2024 and games look more like real life than real life does. Wouldn't it be a wild thought experiment to adapt a game made in 2024 to 1996's N64? Wouldn't it? Fair warning, if you've played a particular game series, Andrew is going to make you furious. Kyle is here to make one 25th of a game. Todd is going to talk a lot about horses. We're talking about game conventions and our thoughts on attending them for both commerce and sociability in preparation for the upcoming Midwest Gaming Classic. Sorry for the late post, I've been very sick this past week!
How much do you know about the phrase "public domain?" Follow up question, how much do you want to know about the phrase "public domain?" Today we're doing something just plain silly. Today we're making Sonic the Hedgehog games out of public domain novels. Believe it or not, they've already made two of them. Todd's idea led to a lot less puns than it could have. Kyle's idea revolves around everyone's favorite public domain detective. Matt's idea has a villain that really pushes the limits of stupidity. Eh, Yo! This week we dive into Geeks Mania Madison. I met Kyle the owner of Geeks Mania Madison at Midwest Gaming Classic in 2018. Geeks Mania Madison had been running for years before that and they had a booth at the show. Kyle tells us about what he has learned since opening Geeks Mania Madison and how the arcade has changed. After meeting with Doc Mack of Galloping Ghosts, Kyle changed how he ran Geeks Mania Madison, which helped the arcade grow. If you are looking for a cool arcade to go and visit in Madison, Geeks Mania Madison is one to check out. They have pinball, retro arcade games, newish arcade games, pool tables, a custom 6-player X-Men setup, and indie games. Go spend the day at Geeks Mania Madison. On the day of our non-denominational Lord, April 1st, 2023, 3 nerds were given a platform. A platform, not just on the internet, but in a real life place in front of real life people at the Midwestern Gaming Classic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is that podcast. Matt hosted a one-on-one debate between Todd and Andrew to determine which classic GameCube game should be remastered in 2023. The answer involved more primates than you could possibly imagine. And if you are reading this in the future, just know that you missed your opportunity to meet us and that we really had a good time. - Please leave us a five-star review on your podcast aggregator of choice. Now we know that a lot of people are going to complain and say "Oh wow.. the LJN guys are doing another NES game. *YAWN*". Well that's just not true. We played the Famicom version of Parodius Da! and the Famicom is NOT the NES. And before you get all uppity about how we also played the PAL version of the game, remember that it's generally regarded as the "nes" in Europe. To us, that's just not the same thing. - Remember, if you see us at Midwest Gaming Classic, show us your 5* review of the show and you'll get a free copy of Super Mario Bros 3 for the Famicom. Also, if you tell us "Buy me Bonestorm or go to Hell!", you'll get 10% off everything in the booth. - Thank you for listening! I welcome Roger Sharpe, President and CEO of Sharpe Communications, and the star of the new movie - PINBALL: The Man Who Saved the Game. Hear about his marketing agency and how the idea to turn his story into a movie started back in 2020. We then discuss how pinball used to be illegal in New York City, discovering pinball in college, working at GQ, being challenged to write a book, and testifying at City Hall it was a game of skill, not a game of chance. Learn about life choices, working in advertising, how others got their start in pinball, plus ideas how you could get into the industry now. Hear about home enthusiasts being a huge boost, going international, and thousands of events, tournaments, and leagues happening every year. We then dive into some of his favorite games and projects, including the ones he designed, along with his licensing work on Elvira, NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Terminator 2, Arctic Thunder, and other games. Learn about the growth of barcades, the explosion of the industry, the difference to video games, and cooperative play. Hear about his concern on the recent pricing of pinballs, not going too hardcore on the game design, and thoughts on licensing. Towards the end he shares a great story about Gary Stern, the legendary Harry Williams, his pinball book, and some current games he's playing or interested in. Learn about websites you can check out, the March 17th, 2023 release date, the irony of making pinballs in Chicago but not being legal years ago, and how this little indie movie is winning awards (go check it out). Bio: Roger Sharpe's demonstration of pinball as a skill-based game overturned New York City's thirty-five-year ban on pinball machines in 1976. His story, now a film, “PINBALL: The Man Who Saved the Game” came out March 17th, 2023. Roger is also the former Director of Marketing and Licensing at Williams Bally/Midway, a pinball historian, a player, and former pinball designer at Stern, Williams, and Game Plan.
