Many witches dream of making a pilgrimage to Salem, Massachusetts; the so-called "Witch Capital of the USA," where the echoes of history, magic, and commercialization all blend together in a way that is uniquely, well… Salem. But is it truly a witch's Mecca? And is it worth making the trek? In this episode Laylla and Chelle unpack the real Salem, the history, the hype, and what it means to visit as a practicing witch. They share their favorite historical sites, from the somber Witch Trials Memorial to hidden gems that go beyond the tourist-trap veneer. They also give the lowdown on the best places to shop, the ones that actually cater to witches rather than just Halloween-loving tourists. But Salem is more than just a fun weekend trip, visiting as a witch can be a powerful act of remembrance and honorfor the victims of the 1692 Witch Trials, none of whom were actual witches but all of whom suffered from fear, superstition, and the brutal power of accusation. Laylla and Chelle discuss how modern witches can hold space for these lost souls while embracing the magic that Salem has come to represent. The conversation also expands beyond Salem to address witch discrimination today because witches and magical practitioners still face real persecution, the shadow of history still looms large in today's world. Born and raised in Salem, Massachusetts, Anne Bennett is an alternative singer/songwriter whose haunting, melancholic vocals soar over dark melodies concerning death, love, heaven and hell, and are often influenced by her days living in the infamous Witch City. Her music explores the deepest corners of the human experience, from the tender complexities of love to the inevitable reality of death, where she weaves melodies that echo with raw emotion and delicate intensity.Drawing inspiration from her personal battle with depression, Bennett's lyrics are a powerful reflection of vulnerability and resilience. Each song is an intimate journey into themes of heartache, longing, and the shadows we all face. Her voice, described as both captivating and otherworldly, effortlessly pulls listeners into a realm where beauty and sorrow coexist.Website: www.IAmAnneBennett.coInstagram: https://instagram.com/annebennettofficial

Hello and welcome to our newest episode! We're glad to have you with us. Buckle up for some hot Salem action, and some cider and brews. We had this Salem trip planned since 2020, but the pandemic hit and shit on all of it. So we decided to book a room a year ago and hit the Witch City this October. Everyone said that Salem in October was madness. People also always told us that we "just had to go to Salem in October" since we love Halloween so much. So which was it? We started off our trip with a quick stop in Holliston, MA (IYKYK) From there we went to Carlson Orchards to try cider we had been wanting to try for quite some time. Then it was off to Bolton Beer Works/Nashoba Valley Winery, Lookout Farms, and Downeast Cider House. That was all on Friday. Then bright and early Saturday morning we made our way to Salem. We spent a full day consisting of WitchPix, Pioneer Village, Far From the Tree Cider, The Lobster Shanty, and more! We packed as much as we could into a day in Salem. All those things and more await you. Join us! Don't forget to subscribe to our "It's Not Better, It's Just More" bonus content for a small monthly fee and become part of The Woo Hoo Crew. On today's episode of the Craft Industry Alliance podcast, we're talking about owning a local yarn shop with my guest, Ana Campos. Ana is a Brazilian knitting instructor, fiber witch, and designer with over 20 years of knitting experience. She currently makes her home by the sea in Salem, Massachusetts, known as the Witch City. As a Latina and an immigrant, she values the opportunities for connection, community, and common ground that knitting creates. Ana's love for the knitting community led her to open Circle of Stitches, the witchiest yarn shop, in 2015. Her focus is on empowering knitters to grow their skills and technical knowledge, so everyone can make pieces they love. She is passionate about teaching students how to customize patterns for the perfect fit. She also loves teaching Portuguese knitting, which reminds her of her grandma Tina back home in Rio, and hosting her monthly tarot study group. Ana is an inaugural member of the Vogue Knitting Diversity Advisory Council, and a co-creator of Latines y Lana, an ongoing project to elevate and share the work of Latine fiber artists. Ana loves helping folks find inspiration and expand their skills, and her favorite projects are sweaters and socks. When she is not at her shop, you can find her elbows-deep in her dye pots. Growing up in the tropics gave her a lifelong passion for bright colors and bold combinations, which she brings to her line of hand-dyed yarns, Toil & Trouble. She loves dyeing colorful sock yarns, and hopes this book will help you fall in love with socks too! Find Ana online at www.circleofstitches.com, on Instagram @circleofstitches and visit her store in person at 66 Wharf Street, Salem, MA. +++++ This episode is sponsored by Craftsy.
