Little Scout: Live at Woodford Folk Festival, Woodfordia, 29 December 2014 Little Scout were a Brisbane band formed in 2008, centred around the songwriting partnership of bassist Mel Tickle and guitarist Patrick Elliott. They initially pursued a very folky - perhaps even twee - sound on their first two EPs, 2008's "Dead Loss" and 2009's "Different in the Distance". Their later releases explored a more atmospheric indie rock dynamic, as heard on their two albums, 2011's "Take Your Light" and 2013's "Are You Life". Little Scout were a locally popular band in their time, and were able to rack up many major support slots for international touring bands including Belle and Sebastian, Sharon Van Etten and Placebo. For most of the band's life, Tickle and Elliott were joined by Miro Mackie on the drums. Other members throughout their history included Charles Sale, Nick Smethurst, Shem Allen, Laura Kovic, Michael Pringle, and Tickle's sister, Kirsty. While the band officially broke up in 2015, the core partnership of Tickle and Elliott survived into subsequent band PYNES. The two also play in other bands including Holiday Party, Relay Tapes and Rival Territory. This set from the Woodford Folk Festival was one of the last Little Scout ever played. We were fortunate enough to unearth this desk mix from the archives, recorded by the 4ZZZ team who covered the Festival that year. Ed Kuepper & The Queensland Symphony Orchestra: Live at The Tivoli, Fortitude Valley, 5 November 2020 Ed Kuepper has been a presence in Australian music for nearly fifty years. Born in Bremen, West Germany, Kuepper's family migrated to Brisbane when he was a child. In high school he co-founded the band that would become The Saints, one of the most influential groups in the history of punk music. After three albums with The Saints, Kuepper left the band to pursue more esoteric styles of music. He formed the band Laughing Clowns, which produced a more avant-garde jazz kind of sound. In the 1990s he returned to heavier rock music with The Aints, a project that was revived again in the 2010s, now with an exclamation mark at the end of their name. The Aints! were previously featured in episodes 267 and 269 of Live Delay. Since the mid-1980s Kuepper has released a long and steady stream of solo albums, crossing a broad swathe of genres though always anchored by his singular style of guitar playing. We previously aired a solo set of his in episode 145. In 2017 Kuepper teamed up for a collaboration with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, reinterpreting songs from his vast back catalogue in a live performance for the Brisbane Festival. In 2020 the collaboration was repeated, with Live Delay there to capture the event. The QSO was conducted by Peter Morris on the night, with orchestrations by Rob Davidson. In a parallel life he is also the guitarist and lead singer in rock band Children Collide. Fascinator started as a side project in electronic music at the peak of Children Collide's success. After Mackay moved to New York in 2010, he got more serious about the side project, becoming known for wild, experimental live shows that could either feature a dozen people onstage playing air instruments or just him DJ-ing. The first Fascinator studio releases were the EPs "Birth" and "Earth" in 2013, followed by albums "Man" in 2016, "Water Sign" in 2018" and "Beyoğlu" in 2020. Recorded by Lauren Holyoak Mixed by Diwan Randhawa Nathan John Kearney & James Eyre Walker: Live at Sonic Masala Fest, The Triffid, Newstead, 14 August 2021 Nathan John Kearney has been heavily involved in Brisbane DIY music for over ten years, playing in many bands and having a variety of roles here at community radio station 4ZZZ. It's no secret that the past year hasn't been the best year for live music. While Brisbane was not as badly affected as other areas, the effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continue to be felt. Snap lockdowns meant cancelled gigs at very short notice for local bands, and the closure of the Queensland border for most of the year meant very few interstate acts were able to tour. Still, Live Delay has persisted, bringing you previously unheard sets from the vault to bring you your live music fix. Featuring highlights from The Mouldy Lovers, Madboots, May Lyn, Velociraptor, MC Triks, Majestic Horses, The Jensens + Luminescence, PYNES, RAT!hammock, The Double Happiness, Rivermouth, Jamie Hutchings, Captain Dreamboat and Emily Wurramara.
