Gather ‘round now, and keep that fire stoked hot. Have you ever heard the true story of the Moss Mountain Massacre? History books will tell you that Thomas Nuttall's 1819 expedition up the Arkansas River was met with tragedy due to malaria and rogue animal attacks. But the old river rats and indigenous tribes know the dark truth. It wasn't a bear that tore those men apart on Halloween night in the choking river fog. It was something much older, much larger, and far more sinister. Locals call it the Moss Mountain Booger. And folks, it might still be out there .In tonight's episode, we are diving deep into the blood-soaked soil of the Arkansas river bottoms. We'll explore Nuttall's suppressed journals, the terrifying riverboat encounter of 1924, and the modern-day warnings left behind by the massive, bipedal beasts that rule the mist. If you're ever visiting the beautiful, manicured farms of Moss Mountain today... you best be gone before the sun goes down.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/missing-persons-mysteries--5624803/support.

Eric Nuttall joins the Oil Ground Up podcast to discuss what he believes is the largest energy supply shock in modern history following the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He explains why markets remain dangerously complacent despite massive global inventory drawdowns, rising geopolitical risks, and the potential for structurally higher oil prices well into the future. The conversation dives into why energy equities still appear deeply undervalued, how Canadian oil producers could benefit from a long-term supply crunch, and why Nuttall sees a generational opportunity emerging in the sector. Nuttall also outlines the risks investors should be watching closely, including possible U.S. export restrictions, weakening demand from higher fuel prices, and continued volatility tied to Middle East tensions. The discussion further explores the future of U.S. shale growth, Canada's pipeline constraints, and the strategic importance of energy infrastructure in an increasingly unstable global market. From inventory math to capital flows, this episode offers a deep dive into the macro forces reshaping global oil markets and the investment landscape around them.

GIMA director Vicky Nuttall retires from the role this spring after 12 years in the role.GIMA's annual big day conference event on 26 March is about future of the supply chain and will include panels on sales agents versus employed staff, logistics, marketplace and Yorkshire Garden Centres' Mark Farnsworth.Talking to Matt Appleby on the HortWeek Podcast, Nuttall says the biggest changes at GIMA since she started there 12 years ago include GIMA taking on the Garden Press Event in 2016 and Nuttall says she was really pleased to add the event, alongside the HTA, to its offer.Covid in 2020 saw trade associations "come to the fore" and GIMA joining the CBI in 2019 proved to be a good decision as they were close to Government. Bringing trade associations closer together and growing the membership, helped by Tony Kersey (ex-Homebase), has helped that. She says she seeks influencers online, and "they find us" and they generate content from the Garden Press Event. She added that GIMA manages who comes through the door so only people who are trying to make a living get in.GIMA has taken on some members from the defunct Gardenex export organisation and will manage their international lounge at Glee in September. There's uncertainty about the weather so far in 2026 from retailers, after a good Christmas, Nuttall observes: "Everything is in place for a good 2026 season. But the most important factor is the weather." She adds: "It's tough out there for some of the smaller businesses...that might be a reflection of what some of the more established brands are doing."The biggest challenges looking ahead include increased employment taxes, regulations such as EPR packaging bills eat away at margins and some smaller garden centres are coming to the point where they think they canlt be boithered and we are seeing consildiation, as well as some in the supply side. She advises using professionals to monitor reporting of EPR."It's tough for smaller or single product suppliers to get a "foot in the door". There are fewer buying points and buying groups and chains are getting stronger and some bigger suppliers are getting "more dominant".Marketplace retailing gives more opportunity but has a knock-on effect for the retail landscape, especially for DIY and High Street stores. In terms of trends, "accessible and easy" wellness and well-being hobbies than gardening are getting more popular, she says.Nuttall says the organisation is well-placed placed for the future. This week, our guest is Eric Nuttall, Partner and Senior Portfolio Manager at Ninepoint Partners. Eric manages the Ninepoint Energy Fund (NNRG) and the Ninepoint Energy Income Fund (NRGI).  Here are some of the questions Peter and Jackie asked Eric: How would you compare investing in Canadian oil and gas producers versus U.S. companies?  Do you still believe Canada is undervalued relative to the U.S., as you did when we spoke a few years ago? With OPEC announcing on September 7, 2025, that it will add even more supply to the market, why are oil prices remaining so resilient, and what is Saudi Arabia's strategy? What are your expectations for North American natural gas prices, particularly in Canada, which has experienced exceptionally weak pricing this year? Canada has seen a wave of consolidation in the oil patch—how do you view corporate consolidation in this context? You have long advocated for oil and gas producers to buy back shares, but if Canada succeeds in building new export pipelines for oil and gas, would you support companies growing production to create value rather than relying solely on buybacks? How can new export pipelines be built if investors continue to prefer buybacks over growth? Finally, do you believe Canadian oil and gas companies still trade at a “green discount” due to climate policies that burden the sector? Please review our disclaimer at: https://www.arcenergyinstitute.com/disclaimer/ Check us out on social media: X (Twitter): @arcenergyinstLinkedIn: @ARC Energy Research Institute Subscribe to ARC Energy Ideas PodcastApple PodcastsAmazon MusicSpotify

On the first day of Karen Read's retrial, prosecutors and defense attorneys presented starkly contrasting narratives regarding the 2022 death of Boston police officer John O'Keefe. Special prosecutor Hank Brennan opened by asserting that Read confessed at the scene, citing testimony from paramedic Timothy Nuttall, who claimed Read repeatedly said, "I hit him, I hit him, I hit him" upon discovering O'Keefe's body outside a Canton home during a snowstorm. Brennan argued that Read's own words, combined with digital evidence like a drop in O'Keefe's phone battery temperature, would confirm she struck him with her SUV and left him to die. In contrast, defense attorney Alan Jackson contended that O'Keefe was beaten inside the house and that Read is the victim of a police cover-up. He emphasized inconsistencies in the investigation, including the role of a now-fired state trooper, and argued that Read's taillight damage was unrelated to O'Keefe's injuries. The prosecution's first witnesses included paramedic Timothy Nuttall and Kerry Roberts, a close friend of O'Keefe. Nuttall testified that Read appeared frantic at the scene and admitted to hitting O'Keefe. Roberts recounted receiving a 5 a.m. call from Read, who screamed, "Kerry, Kerry, Kerry, John's dead," before hanging up. Roberts described Read's panic and confusion during their search for O'Keefe, noting that Read speculated he might have been hit by a snowplow and expressed uncertainty about the previous night's events due to heavy drinking. At the start of 2025 the AI industry and stock market were both blindsided. By the end of Monday, Jan. 27, nearly $1 trillion in value had been wiped off the Nasdaq 100. U.S. tech companies that had invested billions of dollars in AI now faced new competition from DeepSeek, a Chinese AI startup. Supposedly only costing $6 million to develop, and as intelligent as OpenAI's reasoning models, the open-source application became the most downloaded free app for iPhone when released. For Brandon Nuttall, chief digital and AI officer at industry data solutions provider Xceedance, this was a Sputnik moment for the AI industry–referring to moment in which the Soviet Union surprised the United States and jump-started the space race in 1957 by sending the first artificial satellite into space. In this podcast, Nuttall discusses the risks for companies that use DeepSeek, how the AI was created, and why it needs significantly less energy than other large language models.

Just about 40 miles west of Chicago, nestled in a quiet office and industrial park, you'll find the headquarters of BERNINA of America. In one building, the heart and soul of the business hums—sales, marketing, operations, and so much more—where a dedicated team works passionately every day to bring BERNINA's incredible sewing machines to dealers and customers across North America. But just a stone's throw away, in a building filled with inspiration and creativity, lies something truly special—BERNINA's Creative Center. On a chilly, grey January morning, we stepped inside and were immediately welcomed by the warmth of community. A small gathering of women from BERNINA dealers across the country had come together, as they do each year, to share stories, sewing tips, and business ideas—all while strengthening the bonds that make this community feel like family. In this special episode, we had the pleasure of sitting down with four groups of these remarkable women to learn more about their journeys, their businesses, and their dreams for the future. Their passion and camaraderie are truly what make BERNINA more than just a brand—it's a family. So, grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and join us as we take you inside the very essence and meaning of BERNINA's Creative Center. We started off the morning with a duo eager to be the first to talk with us. Meet Alyssa McDonnel of Aurora Sewing Center, New York https://www.aurorasewingcenter.com/ and Jessica Whitley 0f Byrne's Sewing Center, Pennsylvania. https://www.byrnesewing.com/ (2:18) So, what inspired these ladies to open their dealerships? As in many things BERNINA, it's all in the family.(3:30) What gave them each the courage to step in and take over the businesses? Did they each sew?(4:03) How about some stories about their first days/months in business? Were tears a part of it all?(5:37) What were their biggest challenges and triumphs? Machines, staffing, anticipating the market and getting enough sleep! Pinterest helps a lot!(7:06) How has the industry changed during their tenure in business? Virtual business,(8:35) What aspects of being a BERNINA dealer mean the most to them? (10:55) What is it about BERNINA that makes customers so loyal? Quality, the standards, creativity. (11:55) And what are their hopes/dreams for the future? BERNINA began and remains a family-owned business. And so many families…generations of them…are now part of the BERNINA family. Meet mother and daughter Marilyn Gattinella from Close to Home in Connecticut https://www.closetohomestores.com/  and Denise Lopez from Nuttall's' in Salt Lake City, Utah https://www.nuttallbernina.com/ (13:47) What inspired each of them to open their dealerships? Hear their remarkable stories and how Denise married within the sewing community having met her husband at BERNINA University. (16:58) What special memories do they have from their days as a dealer? How about the days they had 67 990's delivered and had to enlist their sons to help get them ready?!  (19:06) What are Marilyn and Denise's takes on the evolution of the industry? Many things and especially to Marilyn…what's old is new again! And of course, technology and social media! (21:37) Have they had to adjust in their businesses to keep up with things? Reaching out into the community to different community gathering places to meet people where they are. (22:58) And the joy and fulfillment of being a BERNINA dealer? Well, most of them watched Denise grow up…it's truly family. (25:15) What are their hopes for the future? For Marilyn, for their sons and their children to continue and thrive. For Denise to see the whole family continue and thrive as well. Many next generations to come! Across different states and generations, the passion for sewing unites BERNINA dealers in unique ways. Jess Rediske Red-Roxy Quilt Company, Iowa https://www.redroxyquiltco.com/ and Jenny, The Sewing Palace, Montana, https://www.thesewingpalacebernina.com/ share their experiences—some strikingly similar, others uniquely their own. (28:35) Each of these women share their stories of how they decided to open their stores. (31:11) How about the memories of their early days. Working with mom would be at the top of the list! (32:44) And how have they seen the market change? From primitive feeling, to color, to reaching the younger generation through social media! (34:09) And how have they addressed these changes? Going out into the community! And using the tourism aspect of the Northeast corner of Iowa. (36:35) Why do each of them love being a BERNINA dealer? (38:20) What are their hopes for the future? (39:16) Is there anything we didn't ask that they wish we had asked? They both agreed that this is an industry that's made up of many powerful women who come together to help each other! In the spirit of collaboration and community, we handed the mic to Maggy Urso, BERNINA's Marketing Manager for social media. With her lively energy and deep connection to the brand, Maggy guided a spirited conversation with sisters Tracy and Debbie of Linda Z's Sewing Center https://www.lindazs.com/ (Linda's Daughters) along with Dari, a cherished member of the Nuttall's' Dealer family. https://www.nuttallbernina.com/ (41:05) Maggy leads off with asking the sisters how they got into working with their mom Linda Z. (42:50) And did Tracy and Debbie want to really do this? Well…30 some years later it seems so. (43:39) And how did Dari get into the business? Born into it as well! And talked about it forever! (44:45) How about some memories from the early days? Debbie starts out by telling us about Grandpa Cooper. And hiding in the lingerie tents. Dari – early bird Saturdays, the yellow tickets, donuts, Easter Eggs…and inventory. (47:30) Biggest challenges and triumphs? Getting everyone to agree and keeping up with growth. (49:05) How has the industry changed? Drawers and drawers of patterns, push button sewing, embroidery cards, sergers, and a “crazy” amount of change. (51:00) What gives each of them the most fulfillment? Giving to the community and getting so very much in return! (52:15) What makes BERNINA unique and why are so many so passionate? It's in the generations of families. (43:54) Hopes and dreams? Keep growing and within the family.  Even distance couldn't keep us from hearing the heartwarming insights of Dori's mom, Rhonda Lopez Nuttall's' Sewing Centers, https://www.nuttallbernina.com/ who joined us remotely from Salt Lake City, proving that the BERNINA family knows no boundaries.(55:10) What inspired Rhonda to get into the sewing business? (58:10) How had the sewing industry changed during Rhonda's tenure? The evolution of quilting was a big part of this. And it's no longer an industry of need. (1:01:00) Proudest moment? Seeing her kids become a part of the family business. And then there was the day at BERNINA University when she received a standing ovation from her peers.(1:03:02) What's her hope and vision? That people in her market continue to look to them for their needs well into the future. As our time at the BERNINA Creative Center came to a close, it was clear that what makes this space truly special isn't just the machines or the materials—but the people. The passion, the dedication, and the unwavering support these women share for one another and for BERNINA are what transform a brand into a beloved family. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who shared their stories with us—your insights, laughter, and wisdom made this experience unforgettable. And to our listeners, we hope you've felt the warmth, creativity, and inspiration that radiates from the BERNINA community. Many of you have likely noticed the growing interest in Greenland making headlines recently, including the U.S.'s overt interest in potentially “acquiring” the country. As we've followed these developments, we have been intrigued to explore further and were fortunate to connect with Dr. Mark Nuttall, Professor and Henry Marshall Tory Chair of Anthropology at the University of Alberta and Adjunct Professor at the Greenland Climate Research Centre. Mark joined the University of Alberta faculty in 2003 and became affiliated with the University of Greenland and the Greenland Climate Research Centre in 2012. He holds a Ph.D. in Arctic Anthropology and his research focuses on the societies and environments of the circumpolar North and Northern Europe. Mark is also the author of several books, including his most recent, “The Shaping of Greenland's Resource Spaces: Environment, Territory, Geo-Security.” We were delighted to host Mark for an insightful discussion on Greenland's global significance. We covered a wide range of topics in our conversation, beginning with Mark's personal interest and extensive history studying Greenland and the Arctic and Subarctic regions. We discuss the historical context of Greenland's status and its complex relationship with Denmark, including economic policies, relocation programs, and cultural assimilation efforts that have contributed to Greenlandic attitudes toward Denmark. We explore Greenland's strategic importance in U.S. and global security strategies dating back to World War II and the Cold War, concerns about how Greenlandic independence could increase foreign influence, particularly from Western adversaries, and Greenland's economic considerations and resource development. Mark shares insights into Greenland's regulatory framework and ownership of its subsurface resources, the potential for developing these resources, Greenlanders' right to self-determination and their cultural and political aspirations for independence, the U.S.'s longstanding interest in Greenland, and its significance in Arctic shipping lanes. We cover challenges for Greenland's economic independence, including its financial reliance on the Danish block grant, which accounts for 60% of Greenland's public budget and 20% of its GDP, implications for Denmark if Greenland achieves independence, and concerns about the social and environmental impacts of large-scale resource extraction on small communities. We also explore whether independence might lead to shifts in policies for oil and gas exploration to support Greenland's economy, the challenges of balancing tourism growth with infrastructure constraints, the unique system of land and resource ownership in Greenland, and more. We greatly appreciate Mark for sharing his deep expertise and perspectives. It was a fantastic discussion.Mike Bradley opened the conversation by noting that markets are mostly focused on two near-term events: U.S. economic reports this week and Trump's Executive Orders in the coming weeks. On the bond market front, December PPI printed lower than expected on Tuesday and surprisingly pushed the 10-year bond yield higher (~4.8%) which is the highest 10-year yield since Trump was elected. Investors appear much more focused on Wednesday's December CPI report which could result in added market volatility. On the broader equity market front, the S&P 500 is down ~2% over the last week and has almost completely roundtripped since Trump was elected. Over the last week, Energy was the best performing S&P sector (+4%) with Technology the worst performing (-5%). On the crude oil market front, WTI price has rallied another $4/bbl (~$78/bbl) this week due to stiffer Russian oil sanctions from the Biden Administration which could ultimately reduce Russian oil exports by 0.5-1.0mmbpd. He noted that these unexpected Russian oil sanctions plus the potential for Iranian oil sanctions under Trump could result in global oil markets going fr

In Norfolk Superior Court, the murder trial of Karen Read, a 44-year-old resident of Mansfield, entered its second day with gripping testimonies that shed light on the tragic death of Boston police officer John O'Keefe. Read faces charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence, and leaving the scene of personal injury and death. During Tuesday's proceedings, the court heard from Canton Fire Lieutenant Anthony Flematti and paramedic Timothy Nuttall, who were among the first responders at the scene. Flematti described arriving to find "four to six inches of snow on the ground" and a "female party," later identified as Read, administering chest compressions to O'Keefe. Nuttall provided a detailed account of the emergency measures taken to save O'Keefe, including efforts to clear his airway of blood, mucus, and bile. He noted that O'Keefe was unresponsive with no pulse and had a hematoma above his right eye, alongside scratches on his right arm. Despite these efforts, O'Keefe's condition upon the responders' arrival painted a grim picture of his last moments. The courtroom was tense as Alan Jackson, Read's attorney, cross-examined witnesses, highlighting discrepancies in the police report and questioning the accuracy of witness descriptions of O'Keefe's clothing and injuries. Jackson focused on challenging the initial observations at the scene, suggesting that the injuries might not solely relate to a vehicular incident, pointing out that “a lot” of different scenarios could lead to similar physical outcomes, not just physical altercations. Jackson's defense strategy also pointed to possible mismanagement or errors in the police investigation, noting incorrect addresses and timing discrepancies in the official records. He questioned whether these inconsistencies were oversights or indicative of a deeper issue within the investigation. The emotional charge of the trial was palpable, with Read's supporters and O'Keefe's family present in the courtroom. Witnesses described Read as visibly shaken and in shock, actively trying to revive O'Keefe, which contrasts with the prosecution's portrayal of her as responsible for his death. This high-profile case continues to attract attention due to its tragic nature and the questions it raises about responsibility, the accuracy of police investigations, and the impact of personal relationships on legal outcomes. The trial will resume Thursday, promising further developments and potentially more revelations about the night O'Keefe died. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
