The album is a testament to Jo's exceptional songwriting prowess, drawing inspiration from iconic legends like Queen, Boney M, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and Joni Mitchell, while also echoing the influence of contemporary acts such as Big Thief, Remi Wolf, and Kacey Musgraves. She brought me through the highlights of the album, going independent, connecting with her audience, 2025 plans, and even an unexpected Arabic lesson! girlhood. is a captivating blend of timeless and current sounds that has received multiple spins from BBC Radio 1 and a recent play from Elton John on his Rocket Hour Apple Music show.Watch this episode on YouTube HEREFollow Ruairí Egan / Léim Thart HERE

This week, Scott sat down with his Lawfare colleagues Molly Reynolds, Kevin Frazier, and Katherine Pompilio to talk over the week's big national security news stories, including:“The Fourth Law of Robotics is, You Don't Talk About the First Three Laws of Robotics.” California Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed SB 1047 this past week, a measure that would have imposed the first set of meaningful safety regulations on the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI)—measures industry leaders said were onerous and unnecessary. While Newsom vetoed this legislation, he endorsed the broader idea of safety action on AI, including at the state level. What does Newsom's move tell us about the state of the AI industry and efforts to regulate it?“Battening Down the Hatchetmen.” As countless Americans have struggled through the aftermath of Hurricane Helene—and are preparing for Hurricane Milton, due to make landfall Wednesday—Congress has been in recess. And Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has expressed his opposition to any effort to call them back early to provide, among other things, supplemental emergency funding. What is the logic behind Johnson's opposition? And what does it tell us about the state of Congress as we head into a potentially historic election?“Premature Articulation.” Last week, Special Counsel Jack Smith filed a massive brief laying out how his prosecution of former President Donald Trump can proceed within the (very messy) framework laid out by the Supreme Court in its immunity decision earlier this year. But the timing of this filing (and its unsealing) has some claiming that Smith is acting out of political animus. What's the significance of this filing? And should Smith have waited until after the election? For object lessons, Molly asked whether the Mets rally pumpkin would go the way of Liz Truss's head of lettuce. Kevin urged listeners to help out needy Floridians suffering through the hurricanes through Feeding Florida. Remi Wolf is my favorite kind of modern artist: a young music-maker who truly doesn't give a flying eff what genre names folks might use to try to neatly categorize her sound. Remi knows that, as she once said, "genres are pretty obsolete at this point." She continued (in this interview with Spin): "I think artists are their own genre, where every artist is creating such a world for themselves that they are becoming the sound and the thing." The world Remi has created over the course of the past several years and two full-length albums, including her awesome new sophomore LP Big Ideas, is kaleidoscopic and soulful and trippy and funky and full of humor. I had a blast talking to her about her childhood experiences with music and her own creativity, and how they overlapped with her experiences as a serious athlete who was involved in competitive skiing until music proved to be a stronger calling. We talked about the stuff she heard around the house -- Prince, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin -- and the artists she got into on her own when she was a little older, from My Chemical Romance to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Amy Winehouse to Snarky Puppy, and how they informed her own music. She also shares what she learned from her brief experience as a contestant on American Idol back when she was seventeen (you can see her audition here), and how she found began to find her own sound as a songwriter during her college years. Remi and her band just started a huge North American tour and you can get tickets here.

This period represented near-constant touring, and writing in short spurts when home in California, as the artist grappled with surging through her mid-twenties while simultaneously becoming an indie pop star. She said, "Along with it came so many new feelings. Of loneliness, isolation, community, love, friendship, confusion about my own identity, confusion about relationships. It was all a big whirlwind.” Hear Remi Wolf talk about the collaborative new record and some of her influences in this discussion.

Ava Kemper's Hello Hello Hello Collin MacDonnell, of Henhouse Brewing Co. and Ava Kemper, intern, are our guests today on Brew Ha Ha with Steve Jaxon and Herlinda Heras. Ava Kemper holds a BS in Environmental Science and Management from UC Davis and is also a graduate of the UC Davis Master Brewers Certificate in Brewing Sciences program. This year Ava has been an intern at Henhouse Brewing Co., where she developed and then brewed her own beer called Hello Hello Hello. Collin tells about Henhouse Brewing Co.'s intentions in organizing their internship program with UC Davis. They wanted to create job opportunities for everyone and Ava's internship is the first one under the new program. Ava describes entering the UC Davis Master Brewer's program after starting to work in the field of her first degree, which is Environmental Science. Ava's beer is called Hello Hello Hello. Its name comes from the title of a song by one of her favorite artists, Remi Wolf. Herlinda appreciates Hello Hello Hello, she calls it clean and aromatic, a perfectly balanced beer. Henhouse's 12th Anniversary Henhouse is coming up on its 12th anniversary. Since 2015 they have been located a short walk from where The Drive's radio studio is located, in a converted train car. Henhouse does support many local non-profits and they feel strongly about their position in the community. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. The release party for Hello Hello Hello is in the Henhouse Santa Rosa location on Friday, Nov. 17. They have also opened a room in Novato where they only play vinyl records. Collin is proud of this result of their internship program. They really wanted the internship to be a well rounded experience, not just about brewing. They wanted it to be about the beer business, so production, packaging, quality and field sales. Ava attended a Big Chicken marketing meeting and heard a presentation about financial statements too. It focusses on the entire business. Herlinda too recognizes the importance of the practical business side, including corporate contingency plans for the future. See our sponsor Victory House at Poppy Bank Epicenter online, for their latest viewing and menu options.

Norah Jones Is Playing Along

Today's guest is a singer-songwriter with a powerful, captivating voice - Remi Wolf. Her innovative sound bends the rules of any genre. Norah and Remi talk about the ups and downs of a busy tour schedule, and the desire to find other creative outlets.
