Full circle moments with grief ft. Sabriena C.

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 12, 2024 25:09

Season 4 has been a rebirth. After taking almost two years off from full time podcasting I was nervous to relaunch. I was also disappointed with the delay of our visuals but I decided to keep going and just do what I do best. CREATE! We have had  some brilliant entrepreneurs appear on the show and to them I say thank you. But I close Season 4 heartbroken having lost one of the matriarchs of the Campbell family. In today's episode I share how when God wants you to come full circle He will ensure you can't avoid it. As I transition into my 30s I realize that life is about passing a series of test and if you don't pass the first time you will be tested continuously until you pass. After leaving my hometown in 2012 I became so preoccupied with the destination of “Becoming” that I distanced myself. I made myself believe that my family, that community wouldn't understand the grind and what I've been trying to build. And now I sit with regret as I have lost someone that had so much to teach me, show me and love on me. As we end Season 4 I want us to take away the following; 1. Savor the journey. Don't rush, don't envy, don't skip or avoid the mistakes but savor it all. 2. Don't fake it till you make it. Be your authentic self that's the only way you will collide with destiny. 3. Identify and lean into the power of your community. You have met and are surrounded by these people for a reason and purpose. Your community is who will shop with you, refer clients to you and speak your name in rooms you haven't been in. 4. Don't quit. Just when you think things won't get better endure until you are on the other side. 5. All that you need is within you. You don't need anyone to vouch for you. 6. Have people pay for you expertise. What you think is just something simple people will pay for.  7. A business plan is essential. But what's a business plan if you have no customers. 8. As the CEO of your life and company be flexible. Develop skill to pivot on purpose for purpose. 9. Operate within your power not force. 10. Don't let your independence blind you for the help and mentoring you have in your immediate family. Your family may not be perfect but they do have much to offer you even within their imperfections. Thank you for all your support this season. I wish we were ending on a happier note but we must end here. Be sure to subscribe, share, rate and comment. Season 3 is that you? We cannot believe that we are now 3 seasons in, but we are excited! Today Geralda Emm sat down with the Founder of Woman UnWind. Minajahrae Whynter Martin, is a 26 year old powerhouse of a CEO from the Bronx, New York. Her story and series of real life experiences helped to shape her into the woman she is today. As a child she was the victim of a number of hardships that would have made the average person turn into a cold hearted human being. But, Minajahrae knew she was always born to be a light for others and her past was only a period of her life. She allowed the pain of her past to fuel her into finding her purpose and making sure she fulfilled that purpose while she was alive and able to. From that passion and purpose soul searching journey Woman unWind was born. Woman unWind stands as a pillar of healing for Minajahrae and every other woman who has been through similar hardships in life and no longer want to be a victim, but a victor. She single handedly made a platform for women of color to heal from trauma while having a support system and tools to help them along the way. She often uses the term “journey to becoming our best selves” to remind her tribe of Gems that the goal is always the same - be your best in ALL things. She strives to grow the brand to be a worldwide impact of community and events to reach women who also know they were born with a greater purpose and want to fulfill the things they are passionate about. I want to leave with you the steps you should take when pursuing a mentor: 1. Research people you admire 2. Start with small expectations (Allow things to naturally develop and don't enter the relationship expecting years of connection but allow room for the relationship to develop the best way for all the parties involved) 3. Position yourself as someone who wants to learn (Come with some work done already, it shows the mentor you're serious about your development and are looking for further empowerment through their guidance and teaching. I hope this year you will position yourself to connect with more people that will Educate, Empower and Energize you!

Today we dive into the phenomenon which is Self-Care and how realistic/practical it truly is. We discussed this topic and ended up having homework to do, as we all realized that we may not really be that caring to ourselves as we thought. The message behind todays episode is that self-care is marriage to yourself. No one enters marriage to be treated poorly, or neglected so what we expect in an external manner we should expect from ourselves to ourselves. Season 2 has gotten off to a great start and I can't wait to explore all of the other topics with you all. Thank you to our guest Anika and Geralda for their transparency, knowledge and wisdom. It was refreshing to sit with my sister-friends and just get to know them more and learn with them. Be sure to connect with them online! xoxoSabriena C.

Here at BTC we gather to be Educated, Empowered & Energized, I wanted to share my raw thoughts on a situation I recently experienced. I was able through this situation to identify that I have a habit of holding on to shame in situations that's not mine. And in the process of holding onto the shame I allow the person or people who should be ashamed to live peaceful lives after inflicting pain in mine. I know what does any of this have to do with entrepreneurship? Well I believe that when we have pure hearts and clear minds there's no limit to the money we will attract in outlives and the opportunities that chase after us. I also wanted to encourage us all to seek someone to talk to there are may resources now during a pandemic that we can utilize to being the healing process we all need. Listed below are few links to sites you can utilize to find a professional near you to begin your CEO healing journey. I hope that my transparency and vulnerability has inspired you to take a chance on yourself and become whole. I want to say THANK YOU! Thank you for your support, for lending your ears, your time and your wisdom. This podcasting journey has added to me in more ways than one. In todays episode I'd like to take a trip down memory lane and end a chapter in my life that was very traumatic. In episode 8 I shared my worst job experience and you all were so supportive as I opened up about my experiences being harassed and retaliated against by my former employer. This week the New York City Council voted to Expel former Council Member Andy King for harassment, accepting a kickback and his overall poor treatment of his staff. I sat through a 2 hour Stated meeting where not ONCE did he apologize for what he put myself and colleagues through. Instead he blamed everyone else including the manager he allowed to torment staff. As I closed that chapter of my life I would like to say to staff who have experienced harassment or who are currently experiencing it, you are NOT alone. The Becoming the CEO Podcast community is with you! Season 1 has ended but we will be back on January 6th 2021. Be sure to follow me on IG @SabrienaC_ All BTC updates can be found on my page. You are an influencer lets get to this weeks episode! Do you understand the amount of influence you have. Have you ever bought something and someone else saw you with it and got it immediately after (that’s influence). Have you ever posted something and people tapped into it and got on board. Let’s say you come home from a long day of work and you were upset but everyone that was already home was happy. You walk on with your energy and immediately the house I chaotic, well that’s because you negatively influenced your home. Definition of influence:the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself. I want us to transition to begin mastering our influence, stop looking at others doing exacty what you could be doing wishing it was you. Get up and do it! There will always be someone doing what you’re doing but they're not YOU! Another way we master our influcence is by changing the way we think about ourselves Philipians 4:8 in the NLT version says 8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. We spend alot of time with ourselves mentality and if your thoughts are filled with doubts, fear and unnecessary criticsm of EVERYTHING youre powerless. Mastering your energy (developing complete self conttrol) is what will help you make your first million. It’s what will get you through school and its even what will help your get through the season of uncertainty and unemployment. mastering your energy will help you be a positive influence in all that you set out to do. Sometimes our plans are perfect but our energy and influence is whats wrong. Lets come full circle with ourselves and take pride not just in water luxury but being luxurious in the way he live and treat others.

Sometimes the lines get blurred when you've worked somewhere for years but as staff we need to be mindful of the things we do, say and also tolerate. I know getting paid is the basis of working but enduring certain work environments are not worth the money. No one should work somewhere, where their safety is threatened and their mental health is destroyed. I am a surviver of workplace retaliation harassment. I never thought at 25 years old I would have to sit in front of a Committee and describe the poor work conditions and the verbal abuse I have survived for 5 years. Why did I stay if things were so bad? I stayed because the harassment didn't begin as aggressive, it began as small ask's and suggestions. It began as me thinking my managers and supervisor had my best interest at heart but they didn't. If you are a survivor of workplace harassment or are currently going through harassment please share your story. I know each situation varies but don't be afraid to tell someone, I have been blessed with having friends and family members who I told my experiences too. I'm happy to have learned about stories such as Anita Hill and numerous former New York City Council employees who have shared their experiences with me. I hope I told this story as clearly as possible, as doing so I've realized that I'm not 100% over what took place. I implore anyone who is a manager or supervisor to treat staff with kindness, workplaces get intense and people come with attitudes. But there's nothing more heartbreaking then having to endure workplace abuse. Please share, comment and rate this episode! Thank you for stopping by and I'll chop it up with you all next week.

When you start a business it exposes your weaknesses and your flaws. If you think you’ve arrived your business will quickly show you that you still have a ways to go. Somethings that I’ve learnt so farYour vision must be flexible You must be flexible You have to become indispensable Always prepared. If you stay ready you won’t waste time having to get ready Make decisions that fit your budget and the overall impact of the business. Be selective on the advice you take in. There’s much more to running a business than creating an LLC or an SCorporation. It’s beyond the logo, packaging or service price list. This leads me to another realization. Your relationships help grow your business, it’s the referrals that boots sales and close deals. I often say if your enemies don’t shop with you, you’re not on top just yet. And even if those who are and personally fond of you don’t purchase you have to be so impactful that their at least watching from a far. Your tribe (group of close friends and family) need to be penciled into your marketing and sales plans. No man is an Island and yes people will not be available but don’t be afraid to ask for help. The worst thing people can say is No and no doesn’t mean it can’t happen The work doesn’t stop. Being the CEO of your life and your business means working despite how you feel. I’m not encouraging you to not take breaks and sabbaticals when you feel overwhelmed. But I’m saying is don’t cancel I photoshoot because you’re upset, or because you feel lazy. A lazy person never got rich. “I don’t feel like it” never made a million dollars. You have enough barriers don’t let your laziness or frustration be a barrier. Stop expecting applause for everything you do. Work regardless of your efforts being noticed. May you continue on the journey of being the CEO of your life and remember you're never alone! April showers bring May flowers...hopefully! Welcome back to another episode of Becoming the CEO Podcast where we gather to be educated, empowered and energized. I hope you guys are still powering through this COVID19 pandemic safely. I pray your families are well and if not I hope things turn around for you all. Last week I spoke about how we all needed the rest that this pandemic was providing. But there’s much more that we need to do during this time. We need to get into our bag! I know we use this reference when it comes to money but I actually mean we need to take some time to catch our breath and face how we’re truly feeling. As I’ve been home the past couple of weeks I’ve been very reflective about the last 3 years: In 2017 my grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer and died within that same year which destroyed my world and I honestly didn’t mourn his death I planned the funeral, read the eulogy and kept it moving.2018 I was in limbo with work, struggling with school to be honest my college journey has been HORRIBLE but that’s for another episode. My coping mechanism became my friendships and my relationship and when those started to get rocky I would just stay away from everyone. 2019 as you’ve heard me share before was the year I really had to let go and let God. What I didn’t share about 2018 was that I returned to a toxic work environment out of desperation or needing money. And it was hell on earth making the decision to return back to that office spewed over into 2019 and it resulted in me being harassed by my supervisor and retaliated against. I also struggled financially as I took the risk of starting my company while only making $21,000 a year. My health deteriorated as I worked 60 plus hours a week and ate like once a day. I mean life was rough but I survived and I came into 2020 tired but as we’ve been given this time secluded in our homes I’ve taken this stillness to pause, create and get in my emotional bag. So I wanna share some tips with you all that I use to release.Tips for getting in your emotional bag: First tip Write them down (in September of last year I did this exercise where I got a blank sheet of paper I wrote my name in the center and I wrote all the words that came to mind when I thought about my self. I also wrote a letter to each person I harbored unforgiveness towards and I tore them up lol I know what does that do if you have years of hurt and resentment I’m not a counselor or psychologist but I do know it helped me release how I was feeling. And yes I do remember the hurt from time to time and some people I’m still struggling to forgive but as my mom would say forgiveness is for you not the other person and I can’t lie and say it doesn’t feel good to acknowledge that something happened to be at the expense of someone else and be able to not feel any hurt or anger towards them. My second tip is to read books or articles that help you develop emotionally. One of the most transformational books I’ve read regarding emotions was the SCARY close by Donald Miller Emotionally healthy woman by Gerri Scazzero Daring Greatly by Brene Brown Don’t settle for safe by Sarah Jakes Roberts The subtle art of not giving a F by Mark Manson
