In this episode of Cyrus Says, bestselling author Kavita Kané joins Cyrus to discuss her revolutionary approach to Indian mythology, where she highlights the lesser-known women who played pivotal roles. With eight bestselling novels, including Karna's Wife (2013), Sita's Sister (2014), Menaka's Choice (2015), Lanka's Princess (2016), The Fisher Queen's Dynasty (2017), Ahalya's Awakening (2019), Sarasvati's Gift (2021), and her latest Tara's Truce, Kavita has been at the forefront of bringing feminism to Indian mythology. In this episode, she dives deep into the story of Urmila and Lakshman, where Urmila, unlike Sita, didn't have the choice to accompany her husband to Vanvas. Kavita elaborates on Karna, the unsung hero of the Mahabharata, through the eyes of his wife Uruvi, a courageous Kshatriya princess who falls in love with Karna and dares to choose him over Arjun. Uruvi's journey to reconcile with the social implications of her marriage and gaining acceptance within Karna's family is a gripping tale of love and intelligence. The conversation also covers the Apsaras' art of seduction and how Satyavati wielded more political power than Draupadi. Kavita shares her motivation behind writing these stories, her fascination with characters from the epics who are often overlooked, and how she uses fiction to bring their narratives to life.Tune in to this insightful episode and discover Kavita Kané's inspiration and process behind her groundbreaking work!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ahalya uddhara
In Hinduism, Ahalya (Sanskrit: अहल्या, IAST: Ahalyā) also known as Ahilya, is the wife of the sage Gautama Maharishi. Many Hindu scriptures say that she was seduced by Indra (the king of gods), cursed by her husband for infidelity, and liberated from the curse by Rama (7th avatar of the god Vishnu). At the request of Shatananada, Vishvamitra tells him how Ahalya was redeemed by Sri Rama and entertained him with the help of her husband. And Shatananda in his turn commences narrating to Sri Rama the story of Vishvamitra. Recitation: 00:00 - 04:37 Translation: 04:38 - 12:07
At the intercession of the gods, Indra is supplied with testicles of a ram; Ahalya gets back her pristine celestial form at the very sight of Sri Rama, the moment he enters the hermitage, and the two divine brothers are entertained by the lady with the help of her husband. Recitation: 00:00 - 03:48 Translation: 03:49 - 10:16
Having stayed overnight at Vishala as an honoured guest of Sumati, Sri Rama, accompanied by Vishvamitra and the other sages, heads towards Mithila (the capital of King Janaka) and, inquiring about it, is told by Vishvamitra how Ahalya, wife of Sage Gautama, whose hermitage it was, was subjected to a curse by her husband. Recitation: 00:00 - 05:20 Translation: 05:21 - 13:58

Yet, little is known about the fateful events that shaped her early life. Taking on the intricate task, Koral Dasgupta unravels the lesser-known strands of Kunti's story: through a childhood of scholarly pursuits to unwanted motherhood at adolescence, a detached marriage and her ambitious love for the king of the devas. After the remarkable success of Ahalya, the first book in the Sati series, Kunti: The Sati Series II (Pan Macmillan India, 2021) presents a brilliant and tender retelling of a story at the heart of our culture and mythology. * In the Sati series, Koral Dasgupta explores the lives of the Pancha Kanyas from Indian mythology and reinvents them in the modern context with a feminist consciousness. Paralympic silver medalist Ahalya Lettenberger joins Charlie on the Cripescast this week to talk about competing in the Olympics, growing up as an athlete with arthrogryposis, and life in the Midwest.
On the 37th episode of Indian Artpreneur Podcast we speak to Kavtia Kane, who is an author, motivational speaker and a former journalist. Mrs. Kane is also the author of seven books. Karna’s Wife her debut novel, (2013) was a bestseller. Her second novel – Sita’s Sister (2014) also deals with another enigmatic personality – Urmila, probably the most overlooked character in the Ramayan. Menaka’s Choice(2015) ,another best-seller, is about the famous apsara and her infamous liaison with Vishwamitra the man she was sent to destroy. Lanka’s Princess (2016) is her fourth book based on Ravan’s sister, Surpanakha, the Princess of Lanka who was also its destroyer. Her fifth book Sita’s Sister(2017) on why did Sita’s siter agree to be left behind in the palace, waiting for her husband for 14 painfully long years? and the sixth book, The Fisher Queen’s Dynasty (2017) which will re-align your reading of the Mahabharata. Ahalya’s Awakening (2019) draws out the voice of a character that lacked one—even before she was turned to stone. Her latest and seventh book, Saravasti’s Gift (2021)- Mrs. Kane brings to light Sarasvati’s story-the goddess of art, music and knowledge-told in the voices of nameless celestials, powerful gods and lesser mortals. The book explores her relationship with her Creator, Brahma, and their unusual marriage-a union of fiercely independent minds and the most non-conforming, unconventional of the Triumvirate couples. As these peripheral figures and silent catalysts take centre stage, we get a glimpse of an extraordinary woman and her remarkable story, obscured and buried under myths and legends. In this episode we speak to hear about her writing process: Story Structure Key components of mythological fiction Research Dance and music in mythology Advise for young writers
“Swami, why do I deserve to remain in this Divya Desam? I do not possess the faith of Akroora, innocence of Vidhura, the love of Rishi's wife, determination of Sita Piratti, the divine friendship of King Thondaiman, simple devotion of Ghantakarna, motherly love of Anusuyai, steadfastness of Dhruva, ability to change like Kshatrabandu, patience of Ahalya, nor do I have the maturity of Andal! Also, did I call the Lord my own like Pattarbhiran?”, lamented the sweet child of Thirukolur. “Dear child, tell me about Bhattarpiran”, coaxed Ramanuja.
“Swami, was I blessed by the Lord's feet like Ahalya?”, continued Thirukolur Pen Pillai as Swami Ramanuja gently coaxed her to go on. Who is Ahalya and why was she blessed by the feet of the Lord? Ahalya was the beautiful creation of Lord Brahma. Her stunning form attracted both Indra and Gauttama Muni who both wanted her hand in marriage. There was a competition held between the two suitors to select the best match for Ahalya. The rule of this competition was that, the one who could traverse around the world and get back first would be the one to marry Ahalya. The ever fervent Indra immediately set off to make a trip around the world. Poor Gauttama felt disappointed as he was not equipped to achieve this task.
Created by the god Brahma as the most beautiful woman, Ahalya was married to the much older Gautama. In the earliest full narrative, when Indra comes disguised as her husband, Ahalya sees through his disguise but nevertheless accepts his advances. This episode of Holy Tales by Himanshu Sharma will tell you how few minutes of anger can crush the entire fate. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

To protect (“parindida”) Gajendra, an (“oru”) elephant (“yaanai”), you went (“sendrai”) flying (“parandhu”). To absolve (“agatrida”) Ahalya, the damsel (“kanni”), from her curse (“saapamu”), you went (“sendrai”) walking (“nadandhu”) as Rama. As Krishna, you blessed (“arul surandai”) and cured a (“oru”) old hunchback woman (“nayandhu nangai”) of her disease. You do not have to strain (“nondhida”) yourself by flying (“parandhu”) to me or walking (“nada”) to me today (“ini”). I (“yennakku”), your devotee (“adimai”) who worships (“paniyum”) your feet (“padamalar”), need your (“un”) smile (“punnagai”) only.
“How can dance be sustained by its practitioners in the unstable political and geographical landscape of war?” Satkunaratnam asks this through her text, Moving Bodies, Navigating Conflict: Practicing Bharatanatyam in Colombo, Sri Lanka (Wesleyan UP, 2020), a groundbreaking ethnographic examination of dance practice in Colombo, Sri Lanka, during the civil war (1983–2009). It is the first book of scholarship on bharata natyam (a classical dance originating in India) in Sri Lanka, and the first on the role of this dance in the country's war. Focusing on women dancers, Ahalya Satkunaratnam shows how they navigated conditions of conflict and a neoliberal, global economy, resisted nationalism and militarism, and advocated for peace. Her interdisciplinary methodology combines historical analysis, methods of dance studies, and dance ethnography. In this discussion, Satkunaratnam describes her ethnographic work, placing importance on the body, which carries the memory of war and transnational shifts. Satkunaratnam emphasizes trust and freeness in her process of telling stories that disrupt boundaries. Ahalya Satkunaratnam is professor of arts and humanities at Quest University Canada located in the unceded territories of the Tseil-Watuth, Musqueum, and Squamish peoples. In English Om Namah Shivay!!! Mondays are considered to be the most auspicious day to worship Shiva. But do we know why is that? Although Shiva can be worshipped every day and all the time, Monday holds a special significance as it is believed that the Lord married Goddess Parvati on Monday Also the poison emitted during Samudra Manthan was consumed by Shiva on Monday. So here we come again with a fascinating story about the Lord Shiva Tryambakeshwara Jyotirlinga There are 12 main Jyotirlingas on Earth where Shiva appeared physically and decided to stay there in the form of Lingam for his devotees. Triyambakeswara Jyotirlinga (in Nashik India) is one of them. It is one of the holiest places in the world as it is the only Jyotirlinga where shrines of Brahma Vishnu and Shiva are available. Also, Triyambakeswara is the place where River Godavari originates. Now let us understand the history and mystery behind this place. Gautama Rishi is said to be one among the Saptarishis. His ashrama (hut) was situated in the hills of Triyambaka (Nashik). Once due to the curse of Gods a drought fell upon the hills for several hundred years. there was a total famine and everyone who lived there moved out of Triyambaka. However Gautama Rishi did not leave and decided to please the God of Ocean (Varuna) by meditation. For six months he held his breath praying to the Lord of Water (Varuna) to end the drought. Pleased with his worship Lord Varuna showed Gautama an auspicious place to dig a trough. As soon as Gautama had done this, a spring of clear crystal water emerged. Varuna assured that this spring will never run dry and there shall be pure water available till eternity. Triymabaka bloomed again and soon it was green again. However the other rishis were jealous of Gautama's achievement. They wanted Gautama and his wife Ahalya to leave Triyambaka mountains forever. They sent a cow to Gautama's field and the cow started to destroy the field. Gautama tried to shoo the cow away. However the cow got injured and died. The rishis accused Gautama and charged him with a sin of killing a cow. They asked him and wife to leave their ashrama and go and settle somewhere else as they did not want a murderer near them. Gautama was devastated and the guilt of killing the cow kept hurting him. He did a very hard penance and meditated on Lord Shiva for many years. Finally Shiva appeared and told him that he had not done any crime and all this was a cruel plan plotted against him by the rishis. Sage Gautama asked the Lord to come and settle here with Parvati. Pleased with his devotion Shiva decided to settle there. Also River Ganga appeared in the form of Godavari river. Devotees who arrive here to worship the Lord and get salvation from the cycle of Life and Death. Also one can see several cows outside the temple self-feeding themselves.

———-SOUTENEZ REDUNIVERSE ! This is review of Sujoy Ghosh's short film Ahalya. I loved the modern interpretation. It was even more interesting to see how it is connected with the original story line. this one made me think about what was the thinking and the rationale and what message the movie intends to give. Left me with mind puzzling possibility. What I liked about this movie is the message it carries and the way you can interpret it. There are multiple interpretations possible. (1) Ahalaya and Gautam Sadhu are trapping people and making them in to dolls. Why are they doing it? Maybe because they are evil and possess evil powers. This is where they are bad. (2) All the people that come to this haunted house gets converted in to doll, but why are people coming to this place? Maybe all of them came with different needs, but in the short film they couldn't cover that. And now coming to the interpretation that really appealed to me, even though they say this is a modern take on Ahalaya's story, I feel the way it is presented is really good. (3) Men rape/molest women and we have seen umpteen cases in the recent past, the main sufferer has been women, similar to Ahalaya's story where because of Indra, she was cursed to turn in to stone. So, here Gautam Rishi (Sadhu) and Ahalaya try to test morality of man by trying to seduce them and see if they give in. To create a protective shield, Ahalaya is blessed by Gautam Rishi that anyone who tries to get intimate with her will turn in to doll. That's the punishment. So, if Indra Sen wouldn't have given in to the temptation of enjoying time with Ahalaya, he wouldn't have turned in to doll. Ahalya - https://youtu.be/Ff82XtV78xo Have you watched this short film? Cernunnos & the Gundestrup Cauldron The Gundestrup cauldron is a richly decorated silver vessel, thought to date from between 200 BC and 300 AD, or more narrowly between 150 BC and 1 BC. This places it within the late La Tène period or early Roman Iron Age. The cauldron is the largest known example of European Iron Age silver work. For more information, consult the Wiki page for the Cauldron. The Witch-God Cernunnos by Sorita D'Este This anthology is the first of its kind to be focused on the horned gods of our ancestors and includes both scholarly essays, bardic retellings of stories such as that of Herne the Hunter and a number of experiential essays. Invocations and meditation journeys are also included. The piece we bring you from this wonderful book is about the Celtic God Cernunnos and was written by the book's editor, the talented Sorita D'Este. Mór mo náir: Mo chlann féin a dhíol a máthair. Mór mo phian: Bithnaimhde do mo shíorchiapadh. Mór mo bhrón: D'éag an dream inar chuireas dóchas. Mise Éire: Uaigní mé ná an Chailleach Bhéarra. I am Ireland: I am older than the old woman of Beare. Great my glory: I who bore Cuchulainn, the brave. Great my shame: My own children who sold their mother. Great my pain: My irreconcilable enemy who harrasses me continually... Great my sorrow That crowd, in whom I placed my trust, died. I am Ireland: I am lonelier than the old woman of Beare. The Children of Lir by Sora Sora (aka Andrea Hunt) is an independent musician with a different philosophy on how she wants to share her music with the world. Perhaps it was all of the touring she did as a teenager with the Calgary Youth Orchestra and the Calgary Fiddlers that made her appreciate the subtleties of having a solid home base. It may have been the influence of playing with elite musicians and performing to sell out crowds that seeded her desire to mold a new musical lifestyle. Her natural flair for Celtic vocal styling leaps out in her 2003 debut CD “Winds Of Change”. On this self produced project all 13 tracks were recorded live off the floor. “What you hear is what we did” Sora says. “Everyone was in the same small room at the same time”. The arrangements for each song were chosen specifically because they were so different from anything she had ever heard – which gave her the chance to put her heart and sound into each track. You can find her music on Myspace or Corvid Media. You can find out more details about Sora on her Contributor Page on our website. Children of Lir When on feathered wings take flight 'Oer the hills beating the time To the swans final song Sung so sweet, so for so long As they leave rocky shore Flying west with the sun And I watch from the land I love My past come undone Oh Children of Lir where have you gone? The hills they are bare but echo your song Echo your song The stones silently fall And where do I belong? On the hollow faerie mound The silence calls mocking the time When the swans haunting song Carried far, resounding strong And their stories they drift Upon stormy seas Lost in the waves of time The island, it is me Oh Children of Lir where have you gone? The hills they are bare but echo your song Echo your song The stones silently fall And where do I belong? When the bells so loudly toll An anthem rung drowing the sound To the swans final song Silver notes, fading, withdrawn Change swiftly comes On the wings of the dove The voices once heard are gone Where are they love? Oh Children of Lir where have you gone? The hills they are bare but echo your song Echo your song Oh Children of Lir where have you gone? The hills they are bare but echo your song Echo your song The stones silently fall And where do I belong? Do I belong? Promo - Searching for my Wives William Bostock Searching For My Wives by William Bostock Imagine how it all began, this marvelous, long journey of Humanity. Some souls work for peace and happiness. Others, though, despoil, degrade, and kill. This is a novel of past lives, reincarnation, and our occult history. Not many protohumans were alive, one and one-half million years ago, but all of us had souls, and souls persist, and there are souls which lived in hominids in Chesowanja, eastern Africa who have lived among us almost to the present day. Shimmer loves his wives, Sita and Ahalya, and tries to share sweet lives with them, but the trickster Murk, intent on dragging Mankind down, drives black souls to attack the ones who love. Come along as Shimmer leads migrations. Relive the waning of the Great Ice Age and the planetwide disaster. And remember how Old Kingdom Egypt travelled through a pleat in time to stabilize and rule the river plains of northern India. Re-experience Murk's dark campaign to undermine that peaceful land, and once again respond to Shimmer and Old Shiver's call to arms and meet the enemy between two rivers at fabled Kurukshetra. The meerkaat hunter's tale. The nuclear family emerges with Sita and daughter Ahalya. Murk attacks. Ahalya is orphaned, then tormented. Murk's malevolence is traced back to a prior world. The universe of ten dimensions, and the beings who live in dimensions beyond our three-plus-time.
The Indus red with blood. The nephelim are allies underground. Murk causes misery for centuries. Shimmer, Old Shiver, and a third spirit rage across the earth for twenty-nine years. Only the kindly are left alive. Shimmer sleeps. Ahalya visits. Shimmer is taken back past the beginning of the universe. He kneels. De Quincey frets, but Peg has faith.
Chapter 8. The aftermath: guilt and overstimulation. Love and death on earth, or a life out among the stars, where he will not have to see Ahalya die again: Shimmer must choose. Interlude with Ahalya. Centuries of sleep. Sita. Shimmer's forgotten weapon cuts apart Murk and his gang when they attack as souls. Back to earth: apparitions and excursions.
The tutor killed, the Blue Prince blames himself. Shimmer steps into him, and the building of the allies' armies recommences. The League is cowed. Old Shiver, Sita, and Ahalya, too, have been moving in this royal family. Round Five. The tramp of boots. The fine souls gather. Open conflict. The Battle of Kurukshetra and the slaughter up against the hills.
Chapter 6. The Ice Age ends. Shimmer lives with Sita, Ahalya, Katrina Maria, always harried by Murk and his gang. Why? What end is served? Shimmer unintentionally kills a cousin, loses his sanity, and despairs. Eruption in Sumatra: almost every human dies. Centuries of recovery; Shimmer helps restore nature, and his sanity returns.
De Quincey asks of Wordsworth: "Can it be I am reminded only of my childhood in these images I dream?" A half-in, half-out life, not exactly human. Ahalya rescued. She and Shimmer walk to the sources of the Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra. They find the Valley of the Robed Ones, and there a respite for Ahalya.
Chapter 4. A nomadic people, The Brothers and The Sisters, on the Gangetic Plain. Shimmer born to Ahalya, unhappy in her marriage. Falls in love with Sita. Must bring news of some wonderful, new land: finds Nepal, leads the people there. Katmandu. Sabotaged scaffolding; Shimmer dies, Sita left alone. Aurelia. Rise of The Bharatas.
Joy along the Indus. Shimmer and Ahalya wed again and move upstream to tame water buffalo, farm, and love. "The Serpent was a buffalo, and profit was the Apple." Ahalya seduced by business. Shimmer, distraught, goes into the hills. Alone in the Karakoram Range. Goes home: "YOU NEVER LOVED ME!" Karla. Reconciliation.
Scouts come back from the river's end and are not believed: half the Earth lost, become a salt-tasting, useless, pitching ocean. Ocean-going curraghs. The Nation paddles north along the coast, crosses out of sight of land. The Poison Coast: thirst; Ahalya and child die in the boat. Father Indus, Mother Ganges.
Chapter 1. One and one-half million years ago, eastern Africa: hominids forage on the broad savannahs, but they are not yet human, although they do have souls. Some souls help the rise of Man; others work against it. Villains scavenge, rape, and kill, but Shimmer and Ahalya, two good souls, discover love and tenderness.
Life along Lake Tanganyika. Murk's villains re-emerge. Enslavement and revolt. Along the southwest coast of Africa, The Nation meets the people from Lesotho. Shimmer and Ahalya marry; the hoodlums re-appear; Ahalya is killed; Shimmer takes revenge. "I lead a flight of three Masai across dry level ground ..."
Chapter 3. Bandits torment the Tanganyikan lakeshore people. Shimmer, a young curragh paddler, leads The Nation towards an eastern land remembered in the oldest legends. He is married to Ahalya. Two thousand people make a line of boats and rafts two miles long. The portage to a long river flowing east. Shimmer and Ahalya's first child, a daughter, arrives.
