Sector 36 is a gratuitously grisly dramatisation of the gruesome Nithari serial murders from around two decades ago. But because it unfolds with zero nuance, the movie mines cheap thrills out of a real-life horror story. We talk about the strange arcs that Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal's characters have been given, the haphazard narrative structure, and seemingly missing sequences that could've helped make the story smoother. We also talk about Massey's performance in the interrogation scene and the filmmakers' odd decision to set the movie in Delhi and not Noida, where the actual crimes took place. — Hosted by Akhil Arora and Rohan Naahar, The Long Take is fully bootstrapped. Last week, Indian actor Vikrant Massey attended the premiere of 'Sector 36' at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2024. In this interview, he shares his excitement about winning the IFFM 'Best Performer Critics' Choice' award, discusses his criteria for selecting film projects, and reflects on the challenges of collaborating with directors he's worked with in the past.
In Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey return as the murderous couple of hell who were introduced in 2021's Haseen Dillruba. The sequel boasts an entirely different visual aesthetic and its romantic-thriller tone stands in contrast to the tongue-in-cheek pulpiness of the first film. We discuss what a huge mistake this is, while also trying to wrap our heads around the film's illogical non-linear plot. We also talk about Pannu and Massey's one-note performances and the pointless introduction of a couple of new characters, played by Sunny Kaushal and Jimmy Shergill. — Hosted by Akhil Arora and Rohan Naahar, The Long Take is fully bootstrapped. Is 12th Fail actually one of the best Hindi movies of 2023 or is it massively overrated? We find ourselves wondering why writer-director Vidhu Vinod Chopra's latest film is getting rave reviews, because all we could see was a deeply problematic, all too simplistic story about a young man let down by society. We also talk about Vikrant Massey's performance, and the egregious brown-face makeup that he's been coated with. Along the way, we discuss the film's flawed perspective and disinterest in examining the more complex aspects of what is an undoubtedly stirring true story. — Hosted by Akhil Arora and Rohan Naahar, The Long Take is fully bootstrapped. Konkona Sen-Sharma's directorial debut, A Death in the Gunj may be packaged like a whodunit but is a lot more than just that. Prior to the film's release, the actress-filmmaker had shared that it was loosely inspired from the stories her father narrated to her as a child. Set in 1979 in McCluskieganj, this mystery revolves around a family vacation that doesn't exactly go as planned. The ensemble cast comprises Tilottoma Shome, Gulshan Devaiah, Vikrant Massey, Kalki Koechlin, Ranvir Shorey and Jim Sarbh. The film delivers as a classic mystery and lulls the audience into a world where one is always uncertain about the events to follow. It helps significantly that cinematographer Sirsha Ray translates Sen-Sharma's vision closely and intuitively, much like an artist's impression. A Death in the Gunj has to be Massey's most compelling performance. In the film, Massey slips into the protagonist Shuttu, who is also used as a vehicle to convey the flipside of being quietly repressed. The film's ending received divided opinions but for those who love a touch of fantasy and the atmosphere of an old school mystery, this one's a must-watch. If you haven't wanted this flick yet, see it on Amazon Prime Video.Alright, that's the lost and found film for today's podcast. I shall be back again with another film or show that turned out to be a hidden gem. Until next time, it's your host Nikhil outta here.

Ranee is a young city bred woman obsessed with reading crime novels, when she agrees to get in to an arranged marriage life, little did she know that she will be accused of killing her own husband. Listen to our reviews and catch up with the movie on Netflix Star Cast: Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, Harshvardhan Rane
Episode 89: A look at Haseen Dillruba, starring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey.
Haseen Dillruba starring Taapsee Pannu (Rani Kashyap), Vikrant Masey (Rishu) and Harshvardhan Rane (Neel), is a twisted tale of love that lives up to the genre it belongs to. Directed by Vinil Mathew and written by Kanika Dhillon, this mystery thriller has some crazy twists and unexpected turns that keep you on the edge till the very end. The references to Dinesh Pandit's novel is perhaps among the newest things in a film that we've seen in a long time. The story revolves around Rani Kashyap who is under investigation as a suspect in her husband, Rishu's murder. Police believes that she conspired with her lover, Neel and killed Rishu, but through a series of flashback sequences, Rani narrates details of her marriage that only complicates the case further. If you can guess the climax, good for you, but it does have a lot in store to keep you thinking what next. The film is now streaming on Netflix.
Not content with being a homage to Indian pulp fiction, Haseen Dillruba—the new Netflix movie starring Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey—is also a mix of cringe comedy, ‘90s Bollywood romance, and C.I.D. infused with crime noir. Unsurprisingly, it does none of that well. We discuss why Pannu needs a better director than Vinil Mathew, his inability to handle the motley of genres at play, and what's going on with Kanika Dhillon's screenplay, from the inadvertent undermining of the film's feminist tone to the tone-deaf tackling of toxic masculinity. — Hosted by Akhil Arora and Rohan Naahar, The Long Take is fully bootstrapped. Sorry we haven't gone back to Bollywood just yet! Smytta needed some young energy, so she chose A Death in the Gunj, the remarkable 2016 debut of Konkona Sen Sharma, daughter of the legendary Aparna Sen. Set in 1979, the story centres around Shutu (Vikrant Massey), who tries to recover from a few setbacks in his personal life through a vacation with his cousin Nandu (Gulshan Devaiah) and Nandu's friends and family at an Anglo-Indian house away from the city. However, things don't exactly go as planned... Just like Monsoon Wedding, The Luncbox and The Lift Boy, this is a subtle and ultimately devastating character drama which demands but rewards close attention. Alex enjoys the scenery, Om Puri, and the assured direction. Whilst initially disappointed by the lack of song-and-dance, Smytta admires the character direction and unpacks the nuanced social relations, especially between Shutu and the other male characters. Intrigued? Then jump on your motorbike and join us in the foothills as we discuss A Death in the Gunj!

Chhapaak is based on a real-life incident of acid attack violence and a survivor’s (Laxmi Aggarwal) story. Chhapaak narrates the story of 19-year-old Malti (Padukone) who, as a happy teenager, aspired to be a singer, but ‘chhapaak’ of acid changes the course of her life. It’s a sensitive, brave and gut-wrenching story that’s not easy to watch, but definitely worth telling.

After a hiatus of two weeks, hosts Rajyasree Sen and Abhinandan Sekri are back with an episode packed with opinions on several advertisements both from India and around the world, a web series and a film trailer. The duo starts with a discussion on popular advertisements in the Indian media including the Manyavar advertisement, which has Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma engaging in "playful banter". Rajyasree comments: “If you plan on having a romantic relationship with anyone or any sort of relationship built on some meeting of the minds: don't talk like this to each other. It's the end of that relationship, for sure!”The discussion moves on to the new Swiggy ad which centres on our tendency to not address people in the service industry by their names. Talking about the conceptualisation and production quality of Indian advertisements, Abhinandan says, “I am amazed at the level of creativity of Indian advertisements. (I think) They are second only to the US or even at par with the US.” They also talk about Dolce & Gabbana's ad which offended many people in China. Both Rajyasree and Abhinandan agree this advertisement can reduce Dolce & Gabbana's brand value.Rajyasree then takes the discussion forward with Amazon Prime's new show Mirzapur, which is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and stars Pankaj Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Vikrant Massey and more. She says it's a well-made show with many characters and dynamics at play. But at the same time, she's disappointed with how the show ends. “I think they get dynamics of the way relationships play out, the different kinds of romantic relationships you can have, the way we hear about it a lot but hopefully we don't experience it in our milieu. A father-in-law wanting to sleep with his daughter-in-law, the wife not getting sexually satisfied by her husband sleeps with the cook. So there are all sorts of things happening,” she adds.Towards the end of podcast, they talk about the teaser of Disney's upcoming film The Lion King and the trend of remaking films that is being followed both in India and abroad. They discuss how producers are willing to put money into stories and scripts that have worked in the past. Abhinandan says, “If you want to make a big film, you bet that money on a film that is remade, say a Jungle Book, a Sholay or a Don. This is why all superhero films are the biggest releases of the year. The characters have worked in the past and they will work in future. Nobody creates a new character!”Tune in to listen to this and more! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Humanoids or Robots are the most complex piece of programming and creation by human beings, but we have a lot to learn from them about the simplicity with which they follow the basic rules of human interactions and relationships. This topic is covered in multiple movies like iRobot, Robot, Anukul or as old as Terminator 2. Humans are the most complex creation of God. While we have created Robots, we have programmed them with relationship quotient, but we don't follow the same due to the clutter in our minds. We can learn lot from them to lead harmonious life. Vikrant Massey is very expressive actor, he is the heart of this short film. Surveen and Anupriya play the role given to them. The short film could have been tighter, but it's good experiment dealing with the complex topic. Wait for the twist in the end.
