Independent songstress, Rue Pratt, and newcomer to the booth but expert in business , Bruke Bea, stopped through to chop shit up with the team, Floyd 1:18. With Italy literally shutting down the entire country and celebrities like Tom Hanks and a good portion of the NBA being infected, panic is starting to grow and rightfully so among Americans. While some believe it’s being over hyped other reports state that we may be too late in our response. We jumped into the Nicki Minaj raper husband drama and from there D.Wade, struggles within the LGBT community for aspiring artists and brands and of course the 16 year old girl jumped in Brooklyn , NY , by a group of young bullies. We chopped it up about sexuality in music and even in marketing and broke down the experiences for female artists verses their male counterparts. Fresh off the heels of last week's Super Tuesday elections and Joe Biden's major upset victory over Bernie Sanders, we got right into it. From the lack of diversity in representation amongst the candidates and the new found corona virus, we got the politics out the way early. Both our guest have experience with major label deals and in recent days the headlines focus has been on Megan Thee Stallion and her beefs with her indy home front. Booggie Byrd found notoriety a few years back as the lead face of Addventures, the upstart distribution label founded by Murder Inc co-founder, Chris Gotti. Quickly making waves with his appearances on BET's Tales and releasing music with the legendary brothers, Byrd not only found himself on Billboard charts but in the hearts of global fans as well. Noochie is no stranger to hard work and dedication. Becoming a staple in the DMV music community garnered him an opportunity to be signed to one of the premier music labels, Atlantic records, and though they parted ways professionally, the tools groomed and the lessons learned prove invaluable. Both back with new music and a fresh perspective, it feels like only the beginning in a new era of music. From breaking down Indy vs. Major, Male Groupies, Pitfalls of Success, Giving Back and more, we covered all angles. As the world mourns the death of an international icon in Kobe Bean Bryant, here at 1:18 we undoubtedly had to do the same. Introduced to the world as a 16 year old basketball phenom and propelled into pop culture as a young heartthrob dating pop singers like Brandy and more, we have literally grown up with Kobe. Over our time on air we have debated legacy’s and rankings like everyone else. Some preferred Lebron, some Kobe, others Jordan or AI. Whoever your preference, what’s never questioned is the respect and admiration felt for the legendary ball player who would go on to perform 20 years in the league and represent an entire era of sports and entertainment. This weekend, in an instant, the world watched in shock and sadness as the news broke that not only Kobe but 8 other victims were killed in a tragic helicopter accident. Among the victims would be his 13 year old daughter GiGi, who much like the All-Star legend, had a promising career in sports ahead. The details are scarce but the end result is clear. Suddenly life was lost and no fame or dollar amount could do anything about it. Tonight with Coalition DJ’s own, Dj Q Hill (@djqhillbeats) we tapped into the importance of his legacy, the good times and memories we’ve experienced with Mamba over the last 20 years and so much more. Of course we talked about the ongoing impeachment trail as well as the Grammys, Nipsey, Fear Of Failing, relationships in the industry and so much more. We laughed and maybe even cried a little bit but in the end we all were better for it. Salute to @miniskirtmyrt and @202angie for stopping thru and dropping gems too. Man it feels so good to be back! After taking a quick break to bring in the new decade, Floyd 1:18, returned bigger and better than ever. Chicago Santana (@chicagosantana) is an international recording artist with features under his belt with everybody from local rappers to Hip Hop royalty like Gucci Mane and more. With success on the internet and new music on the way he stepped in the basement to join the discussion with another boss and business woman, Charmaine Ford (@maine_stream) , CEO of Maine Stream Style and The Loft Backstage ( a multi purpose styling salon and venue used to house creatives in various forms of beauty and art.) The shit hit the fan immediately. With R.Kelly and his girls back in the news we had to talk about it and get to the bottom of the clout chasing chaos. Maine broke down the difficulties being a black woman in the industry and witnessing abuses of power from powerful gate keepers first hand. We discussed coping skills and balance needed to be successful while not compromising integrity. Chicago broke down his decision to use the internet to propel hisself into underworld celebrity with songs and projects with major label recording artist and using social media as a launch pad to push his image and music. From Lori Harvey , Lil Wayne, Oprah, Russell and more we covered all bases. The conversation turned real when Santana spoke on being homeless at the height of his career and Maine Stream touched on her fears of failure and how she uses single parenthood as a motivator and not a deterrent. This week we sat down to bridge the gap between two seemingly different worlds. With the advent of Social Media and false perception, many believe that socially conscious women should walk, talk and act a certain way while on the other hand, the rappers, adult entertainers and models should stick to ass shaking and never elevate or diversify past our amusement. This episode broke all that shit down. Bringing two women on different life paths together to show just how alike we all really are. Reminding us never to judge a book by its cover. Our guest Aziyrah The Poet is a self-proclaimed “ Artivist “ a phrase she coined (and trademarked) that reflects not only her creative abilities but her passion to positively affect change in the world through action. She touched on so much from her felonious past and journey into poetry to her newborn baby girl that she is expecting as a newlywed. No stranger to the Floyd 1:18 show, lifestyle specialist and brand ambassador, 202 Angie, brought new game to the forefront. She broke us down to tears and then she broke down societies obsession with putting women in boxes and labels. She touched on misconceptions about dancers and entertainers in respect to their intellectual abilities and diversity in thought. Of course we tapped into the California mass shooting and the kid killings taken place in the nations capitol without any coverage from the media. Is Kodak Black cancelled? Fab fighting for love? Who takes breaking up the hardest? This show was the perfect blend of righteous and ratchet and it’s not really clear who is what

Children of all nationalities, races and religious backgrounds are experiencing trauma like never before documented. In Washington,D.C., things are not much different. With the recent shooting of Maurice Scott, a 15 year old student gunned down at a local shopping strip, the young people are starting to speak up. In Minnesota young boys have taken to the media to beg the streets to stop the murders, in Florida hundreds of kids walked out of school in protest of the ridiculous gun laws in the southern state. For as long as anyone can remember , Go-Go music , has served not only as a sonic identity for the capital of the country but also as a cultural index for the region much like Hip-Hop was for cities like New York and gang banging in areas like Los Angeles. From the dances to the style of dress, Go-Go has defined the identity in Washington for generations of urban youth for close to five decades. In recent years tho, with the introduction of mass gentrification throughout the region, we have seen the systematic efforts to eradicate the DMV area of its musical pastime. First the elimination of Go-Go in Prince George’s county, a suburb of Washington, D.C., next the attempt to eliminate live music outside in areas like Gallery Place - Chinatown and more. This year we saw the biggest attack on the culture in recent years. In an attempt to silence the music playing from a local Go-Go record and cell phone store, we saw the community forced to unite like never before. Thought by many to be a dying genre, it was the threat of termination that ironically gave it new life. It was then that groups like #LongLiveGoGo and #DontMuteDC emerged to be leaders in the cause to draw awareness. With us this episode is one of the founders of #LLGG and creators of the biggest free outdoor musical event this city has seen in decades, Moe’chella...with all eyes on Go-Go and the cities music scene thriving like never before, this is only the beginning, what we going do with it. When you think of the word Survivor you typically associate the word and synonyms related as being a product of war. Somehow avoiding an untimely demise even in the face of the most overt adversity. On Floyd 1:18 this week we took a look a the toughest war of them all, man versus himself. Our two guest epitomize just that, Survival. Somehow we got on Takashi69 and Joel Embid crying his eyes out after another playoff elimination. Is it ok for men to cry? Bee broke down the role women have played in the way men show emotion. That led us to break ups and turn offs and everything in between.
