The last Moonbase is 20 weeks from being decommissioned. Most of the crew is in stasis awaiting retrieval. In a series of short weekly broadcasts reporting to management back on Earth, Roger shares the stark beauty, the wry humour, the isolation and frustration, the romance, and the tragedy as the r…
The Moonbase Theta, Out podcast is one of the best podcasts out there. It offers a unique yet realistic story that hooks listeners from the very beginning. The characters are relatable and their struggles are portrayed in a way that makes you root for them and feel emotionally invested in their journey. The storytelling is superb, with well-plotted and well-written episodes that have a nice pacing. The inclusion of diverse characters and storylines makes it even more enjoyable to listen to, as it represents a broader range of humanity rather than just focusing on a specific group.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is its unique premise and format. The story revolves around a communications officer on a moon base who is broadcasting his routine transmissions to Earth as the base prepares to shut down. What could have been a mundane concept turns into an engaging narrative that explores the character's mental state and the effect of the events on him. The repetition of routine statements becomes a powerful tool for storytelling, adding depth and complexity to the plot.
Another great aspect is the world-building and character development throughout the series. Each episode packs so much story into its short duration, allowing listeners to fall in love with the characters and their day-to-day lives. Whether it's through heartfelt messages to loved ones or dramatic conflicts arising from impending doom, every moment captivates the audience.
While it's difficult to find any major flaws in this podcast, one possible criticism could be its shorter episode length. Some listeners may prefer longer episodes that provide more time for detailed storytelling or character exploration. However, given its unique format and storyline, the shorter episodes work well in delivering concise yet impactful narratives.
In conclusion, The Moonbase Theta, Out podcast is an exceptional piece of audio storytelling that combines science fiction elements with genuine human emotions. It breaks away from traditional space stories by offering a refreshing perspective through its unique premise and format. With excellent writing, acting, and world-building, this podcast is a must-listen for anyone looking for an immersive and emotionally resonant experience.

Three months after the broadcast from Base Theta (and beyond), we see how the world has been affected. Transcript here: https://monkeymanproductions.com/2023/09/mto-s4-e20-transcript/ Thank you for listening to the last full episode of Moonbase Theta, Out, featuring what I think is our largest cast ever - Evan Tess Murray, Serena Rahal, Corey Spruill, Tom Zalatnai, Robin Regalado, Becca Marcus, Tal Minear, Dalia Ramahi, Leslie Gideon, Cat Blackard, Cass McPhee, M.J. Bailey, Tau Zaman, David S. Dear, Anjali Kunapaneni, Dallas Wheatley, Sarah Rhea Werner, Hazel Stapp, Shereen Lani Younes, Cole Burkhardt, Elissa Park, Alicia Atkins, Steven LaFond, NayMyo Win, Rissa Montanez, Anna Godfrey, Tina Daniels, Lisette Alvarez, Emma Sherr-Ziarko, Claudia Elvidge, Jen Ponton, Jen Ponton, Journee LaFond, Danyelle Ellett, Gabriel Tankeo, and Leeman Kessler. And various voices in the outro that were most of those folks and a few more. Written by D.J. Sylvis; Cass McPhee is our audio engineer. Our theme music is “Star” by the band Ramp; our cover art is by Peter Chiykowski. Music for the intro segment was “Extra Real News” ; music for the outro was "The Real Story"; both by Trace Callahan. And that's it, folks. That's really where the story ends - there are four bonus minisodes to come, but those dive deeper into the characters that each is focused on, they don't really push the plot anywhere new. The story, like Barnett Bell says about revolution, like what Bilbo Baggins says about roads … goes ever on, but that doesn't mean it will all be told in the same way. I hope our little Moon tales stay with you, that you think your own thoughts about what comes next, maybe tell your own stories with a bit of Roger and Alex and Ashwini and Michell and Wilder and Nessa and Tumnus in the bones of them. Maybe one day I'll find my own way to talk about them again as well. But in the here and now, we've reached the end … and I'll say it one more time, thank you so much for listening. Our Exectutive Producers are Sarah Müller and Beka B, and our associate producers are Marty Chodorek, June Madeley , Timothy LaGrone, Marilyn Reid, Marissa Robertcop and Linda Boyer. Thank you guys so much for your support, and helping and trusting us to bring this story to life. We love what we've done with it, and we hope you love it as much as we do. Transcript here: https://monkeymanproductions.com/2023/08/mto-s4-e19-transcript/ INTRO: Hey there, Moonbaseians! Deej here, and it's time for the resolution of our two-part Moonbase Theta, Out series finale! This is it, another hour or so and you'll have heard the rest of the story. Well, not really, of course - there'll be an epilogue in Episode 20, four bonus episodes to come after that, and … after that a long, well-deserved rest. For me, at least, probably not for our folks on the Moon. But before any of that, slide forward to the very edge of your seat and keep your feet firmly planted - because it's time! OUTRO: And that's it, folks. That's our series finale, the end … until the epilogue, bonuses, the stuff I said in the intro. But there's lots of thank yous left before we let this episode go! We've mentioned the actors, we've mentioned the cover artist and composers who've worked on the show, we've mentioned our audio engineer though Cass deserves another shout-out for all his work this season! And we should thank Cass and Tina for their tireless efforts as my co-producers - this is a job no one person could have taken on. I want to thank Girl in Space and Pasithea Powder and Greater Boston; I want to thank Civilized and Ninth World Journal and Interference and Caravan and Seren and Far Meridian and Love and Luck and Midnight Burger and The Night Post and Vesta Clinic and The Beacon and … I can't keep listing them all, we'd be here for another full hour, but thank you to all the bold, brave, engrossing, embracing, exceptional stories that have captivated and inspired us throughout our own creation. Intro transcript: Hey folks, we're taking a break from MTO this week while we work on production of our final batch of epsiodes. In the meantime, please enjoy this episode of HUMAN-B-GON, a dark sci-fi comedy fiction podcast in the style of a reality TV show. Set in a future in the post-Singularity where the now dominant robots ethically relocate stray humans back to Garbage Island, where we belong (laughs). Whether you hate reality TV or love it, I think this pastiche is going to put a smile on your face. Is it weird that the in-universe commercials are maybe my favourite part? If you like what you hear, check out HUMAN-B-GON to hear the rest of the season. And we'll see you on June 25 with Season 4, Episode 16 of Moonbase Theta, Out. This week, MTO Presents the first episode of Vigil, a superhero audio fiction thriller in 10 parts. See vigilpod.com for the episode transcript. Intro Transcript: (music is Discovery by Scott Buckley https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/discovery/) Hi, friends - we're here in between release weeks to introduce you to another podcast we really enjoy, and hope you will too. This time, it's the superhero story Vigil. Vigil is a really unique addition to the genre, it's as much an investigative thriller as an action-adventure ... there's definitely adventure and challenge in there, but it's a report on the life and career of a recently deceased "support hero," someone who acted more behind the scenes with powers that weren't as flashy and muscle-y as you'd see in a Marvel movie. Vigil's expertise was more intellectual and strategic, and through the records being exposed on the show, we get to see how that expertise grew and integrated with the other heroes he supported ... and that's where we get into the adventure, and the action, and it all comes together from a perspective you definitely haven't seen in other superhero tales. It's also a different world from what you've seen in comic book movies and TV up to now - in Vigil, superhero conglomerates have taken charge of the health and safety of the general population, tangled up in their lives to an extent that I think you'll find captivating ... and challenging ... maybe even a little bit threatening. If you're a fan of stories like The Beautiful Liar where great powers lead to great complications ... this is where you want to be. You can listen to Vigil anywhere you listen to podcasts. A special between-episodes bonus for you! We're thrilled to present the first episode of Midnight Burger, an audio drama about a diner at the end – and somehow the beginning – of the universe. Episode transcript here: https://www.weopenatsix.com/transcripts.html Intro transcript: Hi folks! Deej here, writer slash producer slash just about everything else on the show at one point or another - here to bring you one of our between-weeks episode swaps, where we introduce you to a show that we really love and think you'll enjoy too. And that's never more true than today, when we're introducing you to the incredible, wonderful, spectacular and special Midnight Burger. Every once in a while, you run across a story that's like nothing you've ever listened to before - even though we all steal elements from what's come before, something that mixes those elements, adds in a twist of special flavour, and just cares so damn much about giving it truth and joy that, no matter how wild the thing might sound from the outside, it's so perfectly, uniquely itself that you can't help but be captivated. I'm rambling, I know, but Midnight Burger is that sort of thing. It's like Wolf 359 but not; Doctor Who but not; that diner scene in Spaceballs but not; it's not really like anything, but if you like sci-fi adventure with a focus on memorable characters and a huge serving of heart, this is sure to hit your sweet spot. I guess I should include their actual synopsis as well, now that you've got my recommendation for the thing. Joe sent me this description: "When Gloria took a waitressing job in a diner outside of Phoenix, she didn't realize she was now an employee of Midnight Burger, a time-traveling, dimension-spanning diner. Every day Midnight Burger appears somewhere new in the cosmos along with it's staff: a galactic drifter, a rogue theoretical physicist, a sentient old-timey radio, and some guy named Caspar. No one knows who built Midnight Burger or how it works, but when it appears there's always someone around who could really use a cup of coffee." Maybe I should have just said that to start with. Anyway, here you go. Give this a listen - it's the full first episode of the series; then when that's done go find the show in your podcast apps or on their site and keep on listening. You definitely won't be sorry. *** Be sure to check them out at https://www.weopenatsix.com/ to learn more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A special bonus episode: Give Me Away, episode 1, from our friends at Gideon Media! Episode transcript and show info are available on their website: https://www.gideon-media.com/transcripts Intro transcript: Hi folks - we're taking the chance between weeks of MTO to introduce you to another show we think you might be into. Today, we're introducing Give Me Away, a new sci-fi story by Mac Rogers and the team behind his hit audio drama, Steal The Stars. Give Me Away is based on a pretty spectacular original concept - what if there were consensual body snatchers, aliens that co-exist in the minds of humans who accept them. Sharing relationships, adventures, discoveries - it's like, what if Venom were the buddy comedy that TikTok made it out to be? What would happen when two utterly different lives share the same body? Give Me Away is an ensemble show exploring the why, and how, and what would happen from that choice - all within the frame of a sci-fi thriller that will definitely keep your attention. So give this episode a listen - and if it grabs you, look for the next eight episodes in your favourite podcast app. And you can find credits, transcripts, and more info at Gideon dash Media dot com. We're thrilled to share with you the first episode of the Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program's latest campaign: Night at Howling House! It's called "The Dare" - the intro transcript is below, episode transcript is found on their website: https://www.cthulhumystery.com/howling-house-episode-1 If you like what you hear, be sure to subscribe to their feed in your podcast app of choice! Episode summary; The lazy days of summer are at an end and school is about to begin... but for five Arkham youths, reading, writing, and 'rithmetic is the least of their worries. They're spending the night in a notorious abandoned house and local legends say no one has ever lived to tell the tale. Of course, no sane schoolkid would dare to trespass in Howling House, but twelve-year-old Tenderfoot, Tommy "Woods" Northwood, his precocious kid sister Chelsea, and a forlorn little boy known only as "Dirt" don't have a choice. Roger Simmons, the neighborhood bully, and his protégé, Joey Davenport, have the leverage and pugilistic prowess to make a very convincing argument. Will they survive to see the sunrise, or is there something sinister waiting for them in that decrepit domicile? The Moonbase Theta, Out Season 4 Prologue continues next week! -- INTRO (READ BY LEEMAN) (background music is Mr. Lonogan by Scott Buckley: https://www.scottbuckley.com.au/library/mr-lonogan/) Hello, friends! Leeman Kessler here, current Roger Bragado-Fischer and previous Howard Lovecraft impersonator. Both are why I've been asked to introduce this little swap we're doing! We'd like to bring you another show you might find interesting, even if the subject matter strays a good ways from the Moon ... You're about to hear a sample episode of The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program, produced by and co-starring one of our Moonbase actors Cat Blackard. It's an enticingly dark horror-comedy series drawing on the RPG framework of the Call of Cthulhu system, but expanding on that world in unholy cinematic audio drama. Each season is a stand-alone adventure where our heroes risk their lives - and their sanity - facing untold terror and edge-of-your-seat adventure, but with just enough laughs and queer romance to keep an audience satisfied. The sound design is creepy, cinematic and immersive, and includes an original score to back each thrilling episode. You may not want to listen with the lights turned out - but you'll definitely want to listen. You're gonna want to go back to each previous season of The Call of Cthulhu Mystery Program, but what we're sharing today is actually the first, bloody-fresh, brand-new episode of the latest story, what they're calling, "Night at Howling House!" They're describing this as a 1920's Lovecraftian spin on an 80s thriller like Stephen King or The Goonies, and if that cosmic comic mix-up doesn't pull you in ... I'm not even gonna finish that sentence! Just give it a listen, add this stygian series to your podcast apps, and visit cthulhumystery dot com for more information. Oh, and remember how I mentioned the reasons I was asked to do this introduction? Well, there's one more ... just a bit later this season, I enter the story as well, in what Cat called, "one of the most unnerving performances I've ever directed." How about that? Producer Cass here. We're between release weeks of our Season 4 prologue, and we've got a special bonus episode for you: the first episode of OMEN, an award-winning audio drama by the producers of Girl in Space. OMEN starts out a bit like a murder mystery set in an approachable fantasy world, but before long intrigue gives way to danger and daring escapes, with our main characters Gwen, Tobias and Quentin scrabbling their way out of one frying pan, and right into a bigger, scarier frying pan every episode. There's swashbuckling, politicial intrigue, action and mystery - in an ever-unfolding world with just enough magic to make it all pop. You'll see the main trio grow and change as they learn about each other - and themselves. Mostly through squabbling. OMEN's tone is exciting, perilous, friendly, and smarmy—all brought to life by a diverse cast of phenomenal voice actors. Listen to the whole first season now over at omencast.com - and once you're caught up and ready for more, they have a 2-hour bonus anthology for sale and for their patrons! Today's episode is brought to you by season 2 of Orphan Black: The Next Chapter from Realm. (Content warning: depictions of domestic violence and emotional distress) Intro transcript: Hey folks - Cass McPhee here, co-producer of Moonbase Theta, Out. This week we're stepping way from the moon and into the… part-podcast studio, part-magical refuge that is Realm, to bring you another episode of Orphan Black: The Next Chapter. This is the official continuation of the beloved Television show, which takes place eight years later. A dangerous genetic technology is stolen, and an unknown clone appears - forcing Cosima and the other clones to struggle for survival. The sound design is immersive and satisfying - a total treat for the ears - and the story grabs you from moment one and doesn't let go. I got to listen to an episode of Season 2, and my favourite thing so far is the way they've expanded the scope of the show by bringing in a bigger voice cast, which includes original TV show cast members Jordan Gavaris as Felix, Evelyne Brochu as Delphine, and Kristian Brunn as Donnie. If you're a fan of MTO, this MAY be a familiar concept! (Don't worry - Emmy award winning actress Tatiana Maslany is still voicing all the clones. So many clones.) And of course we love our queer rep around here, and with Delphine and Cosima (spoiler alert) expecting a child, we are HERE FOR IT. Learn more about Orphan Black: The Next Chapter at realm.fm, and be sure to listen and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. And stay tuned to the end of this episode to hear the season 2 trailer for Orphan Black. Many thanks to Realm for their support. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
