I'M SORRY, WHAT? HANG ON, LET ME GET TO A QUIETER PLACE, JUST A SECOND.... Phew. That's better. Things have gone bananarama aboard the Oz 9, and the crew has spent the last few hours trying not to get dysentery or squashed crossing a digital freeway. A few folks are hanging out in Meanwhile, which is basically a Narrators' Neverland with a few extra lost boys, and someone keeps trying to stick a fish in my ear. You're welcome to join the fracas, if you really want to, but wear a helmet and avoid Wiggy. He's an asshole. Once upon a time, there was a blurb writer who dreamed of the back of book jackets or maybe even the inside front flap, or the little bit of copy under the picture in a catalog, or a word or two like "stunning!" or "ribald!" on a film poster, oooo ooooo, maybe even on the inside first few pages of a novel, somewhere just under Kirkus Reviews.... But no. Instead that blurb writer does...this. Gives hints on a podcast episode you're planning to listen to anyway so you probably don't even read it. But here we are. You don't know this, but I'm also the https://bsky.app/profile/oz9podcast.bsky.social attendant. Didn't expect that, huh? Did ya? So if you read this, drop me a note on Bluesky? Oooof, who cranked up the gravity? Feels heavy in here.... It's spring in the bioswamp, as much as it can ever be "spring" in space. Things are flowering, other things are ... I dunno, fauna-ing? Whatever the case, it's a bit rude round there, so maybe don't take the kids in for another month or so. And NO, I am not tearing up, I'm in the bioswamp in spring, these are allergies, for crying out loud. Or NOT crying out loud, more crying inwardly, little hiccups of despair- Oh, forget it. It's a Wednesday eve as I write this, and as I look out the porthole into the infinite recesses of space, I'm reminded how very small each of us is against the backdrop of eternity. Given how very very minute we are and how eternal space is, I have to wonder, how the actual f^&* is a crew member from the Oz 14 floating past my porthole just as I look out? NOTE: Stay tuned after the credits and all, for a trailer of a great new show: A Paladin's Bargain. You can listen to it in the usual places. You'll want to. Thanks as ever to Lucas Elliott for the new Narrators (or, Narrator and Tour Guide) artwork! It's Christmas eve as we publish this, and all of us monkeys wish all of you monkeys a very happy holiday season. We're hanging stockings over here (and about passing out from the fumes; just FYI space booties do NOT breathe) and hallucinating dancing sugar plums. YOU have a dirty mind. "Satan's Boletes" doesn't mean *THAT*. Although it does translate to "Great Satan's Fun Guys," so maybe it's still worth a giggle, as Mrs S says. Welcome to episode 104. Please put your tray tables and seat backs in the upright, we're-all-going-to-die position, because, well, it's Oz 9, and as usual, everything is trying to kill you. Let's just say our sound designer, dialogue editor, and voice actors pulled out ALL the stops on this one, so maybe dust off the old earbuds for a really good listen. I'd say it's "immersive," but y'all, you do NOT want to get immersed in this mess, so immerse-adjacent is probably best. Like wading. Anyway. Oz 9 recently turned six, and while most of the crew asked for a quick and painless death for their birthday wish, we're still here. Well, ain't this a kick in the underpants? No one would have believed, on that random Tuesday in 2142, that the Oz 9 would still be kicking (mumble) months later. And yet, as we stare down the barrel of our 100th full episode, well, here we still are, just to the left of Uranus, clueless and shivering in the dark. But isn't that just the human condition, basically? I mean... if we're going to philosophize.... Oh, let's not. Pour yourself something naughty and well-deserved, prepare tissue for the inevitable nosebleed, and roll the episode. Happy 100, Space Monkeys — so glad to have you still on board. With the end of Season 5 just .... an indeterminate time but probably about two weeks away, the eternal Tuesday of the spotless (thanks to Joe) 9 is getting darker, scarier, and downright rude. It's time to check under the bed, make sure the closet doors are firmly shut, tuck any clown toys in your siblings' rooms or the freezer, and crank up the nightlight — things are getting spooky on the Oz 9. I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT. Have you ever met a Kestochalian? Actually, you might have. They're sort of lovely, except when you want to thump them on the snoot. Which, to be fair, is true of a lot of living things. Also my computer. Which, if it had a snoot, would have been thoroughly thumped on today. Well, cue the sultry saxophone and the wire-brushed cymbals, we're back for part II of our "noir" wormhole. We had high hopes for this one (as in, high hopes everyone would get shot and this nightmare would finally be at an end), but we're only down a tour guide, and even he just seems to have wandered off. Goldipants Detective Agency is hot on the heels of Red (aka Colin Smith aka Horace MacRory), the millionaire gangster whose morals are as slippery as his accent. It's part 2 of this, and then I swear, we're finished and you can go back to just suspecting how pretentious we are rather than having the receipts. We know Feb 14 can be a bit rough for some, so we wanted to give you the subtle sounds of barfing fairies to help you get through the day. Just know, we love your goofy, kooky self ALL days of the year. You've been listening to: David S Dear as Dr. Theo Bromae Kevin Hall as Greg Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield Eric Perry as Dr. von Haber Zetzer Shannon Perry as Olivia Chrisi Talyn Saje as Julie Tim Sherburn as Colin Sarah Rhea Warner as Pipistrelle Bonnie Brantley as Duckweed, Wooly Sedge, Horsetail, and Cattail. Kyle Jones is your Narrator 2, And Chris Nadolny Gourley is your Narrator. Our music was composed and performed by John Faley, and our artwork is by Lucas Elliott. The glorious madrigal music you hear at the beginning was created by John Faley and performed by John Faley, Tanya Faley, and Emily Faley. Sarah Golding is our dialogue editor, and Shannon Perry is our sound designer. Oz 9 is written by Shannon Perry. Who will deny it if asked. The trailer is for a show we love and that is written, produced, and stars our own Julie: Chrisi Talyn Saje. You'll find Madison On The Air wherever you listen to podcasts. Oz 9 is a proud member of the Fable and Folly Network. Be sure to check out our awesome podcast siblings at fableandfolly.com. We'll see you next time, Space Monkeys. As Narrator 2 says in this episode, "English majors must perforce English maj," so here's the episode you've all been dreading: the Fakespeare. Come on, stop whining, you knew it was coming. If you're not familiar with A Midsummer Night's Dream, well, there are lots of really excellent versions out there. We prefer you NOT listen to those, however, as that's going to make this seem even more torturous than being read Vogon poetry before being shot out into space. That said, it was fun to write and fun to do, so ... get over it. Also, the second half should show up on Feb. 14, a day some folks seem to think is special. Thou hast been listening to... David S Dear as Dr. Our music was writ by John Faley, and our artwork from the fevered brow of Lucas Elliott. Sarah Golding our dialogue did edit, and Shannon Perry our sound design'ed. Lamentably, our story of Oz 9, much like the alien of old, did explode from the head of Shannon Perry and wreaketh much havoc upon a space ship. Check out more nonsense at https://oz-9.com. Know you now that Oz 9 doth hang about with many a rascally and ill-reputed tale amidst the Fable and Folly Network; go thee hence to fableandfolly.com and there beguile your idle hours with true delights. Enjoy this special re-broadcast with another one time guest (so far) that we were very happy to have join us. Check out Oz-9, the #2 comedy podcast in Sweden, and we'll be back with new episodes, the start of season 2, in about 2 weeks. This episode... it fought back, I tell you what. But we finally wrangled it into some sort of shape. I'mma go with "parallelogram," because it looks like it's about to fall over, but it's a shape, anyway. We meant to get this out when we were still in the throes of the holiday season, but hey, it's Winnie the Pooh Day, and I reckon that's worth celebrating. It's also National Michigan day, soooooo, go, Michigan, I guess. You've been listening to: Shannon Perry as Madeline and Olivia Lee Shackleford as Pluto for the last time, Aaron Clark as le Bichon Frise and Ben Eric Perry as Howard, Joe, and Dr von Haber Zetzer Tim Sherburn as Colin and Emily Chrisi Talyn Saje as Julie Kevin Hall as Greg David S Dear as Dr Theo Bromae Bonnie Brantley as Jessie and Donna Sarah Rhea Werner as Pipistrelle Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield Kyle Jones is your Narrator 2, and Chris Nadolny Gourley is your Narrator Our music is by John Faley, and our artwork is by Lucas Elliott (keep an eye out for Spy Grandma, coming from Simon & Schuster in Spring 2026!). Sarah Golding is our dialogue editor. Sound designer of this colossal mess is Shanon Perry. Oz 9 is written - apparently in her sleep - by that same Shannon Perry, which explains a lot. It's episode 90! And that's the best thing we can say about it. There's a lot of sampling of condiments. Word of warning: don't get between (former) Cpt. Jessie and the cheese sauce, or lives may be lost. Also, we found a crate of "blight piston bottles." Anyone know what those are good for? You've been listening to: Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield Bonnie Brantley as former Captain Jessie and Lady Nibble Biscuit David S. It's nearly Christmas as I type this, and I'm bah humbugging like your least favorite neighbor, but throwing out an episode of Oz 9 always makes me happy. I like making the world just a little bit goofier and more confusing. We have some additions to our ship today, and they are stupid cute in the manner of those "got my kid a puppy" videos that are all over the socials, only these might make you cry for entirely different reasons. But we'll see, I guess; they don't have many teeth yet. Anything else I should mention? Oh yeah: happy hols, Space Monkeys. You're the biggest bunch of goofballs this galaxy has ever seen (and I'm talking about the galaxy with DNA's Hooloovoos in it, so you know it's seen some things), but we love you. You've been listening to... Bonnie Brantley as Jessie Tim Sherburn as Colin Chrisi Talyn Saje as Julie Eric Perry as Joe Kevin Hall as Greg Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield Shannon Perry as Olivia. Kyle Jones is your Narrator Two, and Chris Nadolny Gourley is your Narrator Our theme and other music is composed and performed by John Faley. Change is hard, especially when they involve endings of things we're sad to see go. And we're definitely sad to see The Whole Pineapple go. In this very special, final (for now?) episode, Ruby, Anne, Jamie, and podcast producer Shannon Perry reflect on how difficult it can be to say goodbye. But as A.A. Milne says in the voice of Winnie the Pooh, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” Given how hard this is, we've clearly been very lucky indeed. Then stay tuned for Jamie's meditation on letting go so you can move forward. This podcast has been a labor of love, and there has been a lot of joy in talking with amazing guests, hearing from listeners how much you've gotten from the episodes, and diving deeper into how fertility appears in research, books, and even popular culture. We hope The Whole Pineapple has helped listeners learn more about the fertility journey and the options that exist for those who are having challenges building their families. But we also hope it's helped open the discussion — the stigma that still exists around infertility, and the reluctance many of us feel when talking about bodies and reproduction can make it tough to talk. But these are necessary conversations, and sharing podcasts like The Whole Pineapple can be a gentle way to introduce the topic. Finally, we have to say “thank you.” Thank you for listening and supporting this podcast. Thank you for sharing episodes and the things you've learned. Thank you for coming with us on this journey. Please know that the episodes will continue to be available, and our email, thewholepineapple@gmail.com is still live, if you have comments or questions. We love and appreciate you. Have a delicious week. It's Thanksgiving, Oz 9 style, which means the only thing anyone has to be grateful for is surviving it. If you've ever wondered about the origin of stuffing, well, we have a theory for you. Also, were you aware you speak fluent Klep? It's true. And you didn't even have to practice. Take THAT, Duolingo. You've been listening to: Bonnie Brantley as Jessie, Donna, and Daisy Eric Perry as Joe and Jay Shannon Perry as Madeline Kevin Hall as Greg Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield Kyle Jones is your Narrator 2 And Chris Nadolny Gourley is your Narrator. Our music is composed and performed by John Faley; Lucas Elliott creates our artwork. Sarah Golding is our dialogue editor. Normally, the super-talented Chrisi Talyn Saje does the sound design, but this time you're stuck with Shannon Perry, who also penned this mess. Oz 9 is a proud member of the Fable and Folly Network. We turned five years old yesterday. The podcast, I mean — Oz 9 just turned 5. How we've lasted that long, we have no idea, but we suspect it has something to do with the fact that everyone is slightly fried from the pandemic and not giving real life 100% of their attention just now. And that's cool. Real life can be a bit of a turd on a hot plate now and again, so suspending reality right alongside disbelief seems like a healthy decision. All of which to say, thanks for hanging out with us. Gravity — both the being-serious kind and the falling-down kind — is not something we handle well. You clearly don't either, and we're happy you chose to unfurl your freak flag across the nose of the 9. High five, space monkey. We wouldn't be here without you. And the healer pod. Remember those days, hanging out at the mall, thinking Spencer's Gifts was the height of counter-culture because they had festive roach clips? Yeah, me neither. I spent all my time at Waldenbooks. Anyway, get ready for a trip backwards in time to the mall. I can almost smell the Orange Julius and Cinnabon (which reminded me that I made coffee that was currently cooling in the other room, dammit. I'm back now) and hear the yelps as another pre-teen gets their ears pierced at Claire's. There's a very confused security guard -slash-sommelier, some moaning, and somebody ends up with an earring in their forehead. (Now taking bets on who THAT turns out to be.) Because you haven't got the sense nature gave a goat, you're listening to: Chrisi Talyn Saje as Julie Sarah Rhea Werner as Pipistrelle Eric Perry as Joe Aaron Clark as Le Bichon Frise Shannon Perry as Madeline and Olivia Lee Shackleford as Pluto introducing the Narrator's kiddo, Michaela Nadolny Gourley as Emma, the Counter Girl and John Dowgin of Mission: Rejected as Cyril the Security Guy. Searching for Saavik In our search for Saavik, we are joined by Shannon Perry as a guest host. Shannon is the creator of the Oz-9 Podcast and a former show guest herself. Shannon helps us to welcome our guest this week - Lt. Saavik of Star Trek - Robin Curtis. We had a wonderful discussion with Robin about her Star Trek experiences and what it meant for her to be cast by and directed by the late Leonard Nimoy. We also talk about her interactions with the rest of the cast and whether or not the hair on Kirk's head is actually his or not. And somewhere along the line, we talk about the abandoned storyline for Episode IV, The Search for Spock Jr ... Whether or not Saavik was to be pregnant with Spocks' PonFarr baby. Continuing in our endeavor to educate the public, much of the cowboy vernacular here is authentic. Well, some of it. "Brown gargle," for example, is totally legit. Should it come up on Jeopardy at some point, we expect compensation. The crew continue to explore the Oz 9, sometimes voluntarily. We know these stupid sandwich machines are trying to tell us something, but knowing that and actually understanding what that "something" is are two different things, and let's face it, this bunch have only just managed speech. In this Curious Matter Presents we are taking a turn towards the silly and bringing you an episode of Oz-9 as well as a special interview with creator Shannon Perry. Described as Gilligan's Island meets the Office in Space, this series brings all the hijinks, mischief, and mayhem anyone could ask for. On a random Tuesday in 2142, 400 Oz ships, each carrying a cargo of 50,000 sleeping rich people, were launched from Earth by a corporation called Gated Galaxies. On a mission to seek out, terraform, and probably rudely exploit any planet they stumble upon, the Oz ships were a great way to get rid of not only some very rich idiots, but also their crews of petty thieves and thugs. This is the story of one such ship, the Oz 9, where the pods have already started going dark. For more information about the show please visit: https://oz-9.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. As the years progress, we rely more on the internet for doing our research, socialization, and entertainment. When we were kids, the only way to meet was to gather at someone's home. The world has a different perspective on connection today. Now, many of our children and grandchildren do not even know how to physically […]
Exploration of the Oz 9 continues, and it's not going well. Though we did find some goldfish. And some bumper cars. Traveling via vending machine is just unpredictable and not nearly as filling as you might imagine, but the crew are blundering around the ship from room to room and sandwich to sandwich, flirting with cowboys and this sentence is a bit long so I'm stopping now. You've been listening to... Eric Perry as Joe Bonnie Brantley as Jessie and Lady Nibble-Biscuit Chrisi Talyn Saje as Julie Kevin Hall as Greg Shannon Perry as Olivia and Madeline Sarah Rhea Werner as Pipistrelle David S Dear as Dr Theo Bromae Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield Aaron Clark as Le Bichon Frise Kyle Jones is Narrator Two, and Chris Nadolny Gourley is your Narrator Our artist is Lucas Elliott; our music is by John Faley. You know how they say "dog bites man" isn't a story, but "man bites dog" is? First, don't bite dogs. Second, think of how many things you've taken from a junk food machine. Yeah, there's a parallel in here somewhere, and it's super spooky, but I'm tired and you're going to have to make the connection yourself. In this episode, Olivia's I-drops (iDrops?) have gotten mixed up with some other substances, and, well, if you thought added chaos might cancel out existing chaos....nope. It just piles on. Our crew land on a strange planet ... and find someone truly strange. Yes, I KNOW we said January, but hey, it's January somewhere, right? The Oz 9 crew are finally (?) done with their plant-based emergency and have broken free of the Milky Way Galaxy. They're currently lurking in a galaxy that (if you're looking at it sideways and are 9 years old) has a vaguely rude shape. That should keep them entertained for a while. Anyway, they might actually get off the 9 and explore a strange new world here soon, so now's probably a good time to say goodbye. Please stay through the end credits to hear a very cool trailer for a very good show. And we haven't gotten any reviews for, like, AGES, so you know , if you wanted to , you could, like, leave us one or something. No biggie. You've been listening to: Tim Sherburn as Colin Shannon Perry as Madeline and Olivia Bonnie Brantley as Jessie Chrissi Talyn Saje as Julie Eric Perry as Joe Sarah Golding as Mrs Sheffield David S Dear as Dr Theo BromaeKevin Hall as Greg, Kyle Jones as Narrator 2, and Chris Nadolny Gourley as your Narrator. Oz 9 is written by Shannon Perry but if you say so in public, she'll deny it.
I tell ya, you turn your back for, like, three months, and someone just shoulders their way in there and takes over your ship, your characters... sheeesh. ANYWAY, if you're familiar with A Ninth World Journal or Deconstructive Criticism, you've already enjoyed the work of our own Dr. Theo Bromae, better known as David S. Dear. In this bonus episode, he gives us a glimpse of life behind the curtain. And in front of the toilet door COME ON ALREADY SOME OF US HAD RICE KUDZPIES AT SNACKTIME. Tim Sherburn as Colin Bonnie Brantley as Jessie Shannon Perry as Madeline Kevin Hall as GregDavid S. Dear as himself Kyle Jones as Narrator 2 and Chris Nadolny Gourley as your Narrator Our music is by John Faley; our artwork is by Lucas Elliott. Typically, Sarah Golding is our dialog editor, and Oliver Morris is our sound designer, but you have Shannon Perry to blame for those this time. This episode of Oz-9 was written by David S. Dear.
