John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, May 18, 2025 that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God Joh 20:30-31 John is referring here to the entire book of the gospel of John. The signs include Jesus's words as well as His works. In Joh 2:1-12, Jesus turned the water into wine. In Joh 4:46-54, Jesus healed the royal official's son. In Joh 5:1-24, Jesus healed a man who had been ill - paralyzed - for 38 years. In Joh 6:1-14, Jesus feed the 5,000 with 5 barley loaves of bread and 2 fish. In Joh 6:15-40, Jesus walked on water. In Joh 9:1-41, Jesus gave sight to a man who was born blind. In Joh 11:1-45, Jesus raised Lazarus rom the dead. Many did believe in Christ because of these miracles. But many witnessed the miracles yet did not... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1739

John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, May 11, 2025 "My Lord and my God." John 20:24-29 This is a tremendous account of a person coming to believe in Jesus Christ. When he returned, the other disciples kept on telling him that they had seen the Lord. He wasn't going to take their word for it. Thomas needed visual and physical evidence before he would believe. Thomas must have heard that a Roman soldier had pierced Jesus' side. John 19:32-37 But Thomas was not the only disciple who didn't believe until they saw the resurrected Jesus. Luke 24:1-11 The other ten didn't believe either - until Jesus showed them His hands and His side! John 20:19-20 The disciples came to believe in the resurrection only when confronted with clear are irrefutable evidence. John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, May 4, 2025 "Peace be with you." Joh 20:19-26 The first words Jesus said to His disciples after His resurrection were: "Peace be with you." The last words that Jesus spoke before dying on the cross were: "It is finished." Joh 19:28-31 We have peace with God because Jesus finished the work of our salvation on the cross. Another word for peace with God is reconciliation. Rom 5:8-11 It begins with God's love. While we were God's enemies we were reconciled to God. Through the death of His Son. Eph 2:13-16 By the blood of Christ. His blood makes possible our peace with God - our reconciliation to God. John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, April 20, 2025 "I have seen the LORD!" Joh 20:1-18 Resurrection is ultimate victory and ultimate hope. Psa 22:15-21 Psalm 22 is an account of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ as experienced by Jesus. His hope rests in the knowledge that His Father will raise Him from the dead. Psa 22:22-26 Resurrection is God's greatest victory. 1Co 15:50-57 Resurrection, quite simply, is new life defeating death once and for all. 1Co 15:42-44 The old man of ours was crucified on the cross. John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, April 13, 2025 It is finished! Joh 19:1-30 What sets Christianity apart from religions and science and philosophy? The hope that springs from the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The hope of salvation. The hope of eternal life. The hope of glory. The Lord Jesus Christ was born of a woman. He is God in the flesh. He suffered and died to take away our sins. He was buried. He was raised from the dead. Joh 19:1-6 Pilate considered all the evidence and pronounced his verdict: "I find no guilt in Him". He did so in public. He did so three times. The first time was in Joh 18:38. Wesley Wright Lighthouse Bible Church Sunday, April 6, 2025 As it is written in the prophets John was a big deal, pointing to a much bigger deal. Several OT passages point to John's coming, and his role relative to Christ. Mal 3:1 Mal 4:5-6 Isa 40:3 Think of a fullback - John's role was to create a path as a forerunner for Christ. In football, fullbacks do so for a more-heralded running back Jesus spoke very highly of John. Luk 7:26-28 Mat 11:11-14 That reference to Elijah signifies John's role as a particularly prominent prophet. It's about as strong of an endorsement as you can get, and all of Jesus' listeners would have recognized that. As highly as Jesus spoke of... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1733
John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, March 30, 2025 Who was really on trial? Joh 18:28-40 In Joh 18:28, the civil trial was about to begin. The city of Jerusalem simmered with religious fervor, and discontent with Roman rule. Pilate's home for most the year was in Caesarea. He came to Jerusalem for the Jewish feasts. He was there to keep the peace, and to nip any insurrection in the bud. The governor's headquarters was called the Praetorium. The dominant theme in John's account is the kingdom: the authority of Jesus. Joh 18:36 John's account of the trial brings out the sharp contrast between the character of Pilate and the Person of Jesus. Pilate was on trial before Jesus, not the other way around. John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, March 23, 2025 God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him. Joh 18:15-17 Verses 12-27 record the arrest of Jesus, followed by His trials before the religious leaders: the high priests Annas and Caiaphas. Interspersed between the trials are the three denials of Peter. Verses 12-14: Jesus is arrested and brought before Annas. Verses 15-18: Peter's first denial. Verses 19-24: Jesus is interrogated by Annas and sent to Caiaphas. Verses 25-27: Peter's second and third denials. All four gospels record the three times that Peter denied Jesus. Rom 8:28 We are going to see how Peter's life illustrates what Rom 8:28 says. We begin with Peter in Galilee. He's fishing. It was his occupation. John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, March 9, 2025 The Cup Which the Father has Given Me Joh 18:7-11 So when Jesus said "I AM", He identified Himself as the LORD God of Israel. What is this cup in verse 11? Mat 26:36-54 interlocks with Joh 18:1-11. Mat 26:36-46 fits between Joh 18:1 and Joh 18:2. Joh 18:8-9 Here in verses 8 and 9, we see Jesus as the good Shepherd who cares for His sheep. Joh 10:11, 26-30 Jesus fulfills the words He had spoken earlier in this gospel. Joh 17:11-12 Joh 18:10-11 He is going to drink that cup in a few hours. Mat 26:36-46 Jesus prayed about this cup in the garden. Why did Jesus pray to His Father to let this cup pass from Him? John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, March 2, 2025 They Drew Back and Fell to the Ground. Joh 18:1-11 Joh 18:4-6 What made Judas, the temple guard, and the Roman soldiers fall to the ground? Check out the neighborhood John crafted verses 4-6 with great care. 1. Jesus said to the Roman soldiers and the Temple Guard, "I am He". I AM. 2. Judas, who was betraying Him, was standing with them. "I AM" was a sacred name. It was the name that Yahweh, the LORD God of Israel, gave Himself. So when Jesus said "I AM", He identified Himself as the LORD God of Israel. This is the first reason why those soldiers were knocked to the ground. Jesus was declaring Himself to be God in the flesh. Judas, who was betraying Him, was standing... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1727
John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, February 23, 2025 Whom do you seek? Joh 18:1-11 The garden in which they entered was the garden of Gethsemane. Mat 26:36 Luke's gospel states that Jesus and His disciples went out to the Mount of Olives. Luk 22:39 The garden of Gethsemane was located on the lower slopes of the Mount of Olives, across the Kidron Valley from Jerusalem. Joh 18:1 The name Gethsemane means "oil press". Jesus would be under extreme pressure in the Garden of Gethsemane. So much so that His sweat was "like drops of blood falling to the ground". (Luke 22:44) Then, at Calvary, He was crushed for our iniquities. Isa 53:5 Joh 18:2 Mat 10:2-4 Mar 3:19 Luk 6:16 Joh... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1726
John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, February 16, 2025 There was a Garden Joh 18:1-11 This gospel is a story of unbelief and belief. Joh 1:11-14 The powerful in Israel rejected Him. But His disciples came to believe that He was the Son of God. Joh 11:41-44 Many came to believe in Christ as a result of this miracle. Joh 11:45-46 His enemies resolved to have Him put to death. Joh 11:47-53 Chapters 18 and 19 depict the hour of darkness rising out of the pit of unbelief. The arrest of Jesus (18:1-11) The religious trial and Peter's denials (18:12-27) The civil trial (18:28-19:16) The Crucifixion (19:17-30) The burial (19:31-42) Chapter 20 provides the affirmation of belief: the resurrection of Christ. Joh 17:22-23 How are we perfected in unity? As wonderful and exciting as spiritual gifts are, they are a means to an end. The end is our being perfected in unity. Using our gifts to serve one another fulfills the Lord's command to love one another. 1Co 12:7 Everything we learned about spiritual gifts can be summed up in two words: unity and love. John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, January 26, 2025 He came close to death for the work of Christ Rom 12:6-8 The believer with the gift of helps is focused on specific people. The believer with the gift of service is focused on tasks (the work to be done). The spiritual gift of service is an unusual ability to identify a need in the congregation - - and to then devote oneself to a ministry that meets that need. One man in the New Testament who had this gift of service was Epaphroditus. Phi 2:25-30 First, he was a worker and a soldier. Second, he was sent to accomplish a task. Third, Paul calls it a work of service. Fourth, Epaphroditus stepped up to get the job done. Fifth, he risked his very life to accomplish that task. John Farley Pastor Teacher Sunday, January 12, 2024 The work of an evangelist (please excuse the first slide in the video!) The ministry of the evangelist is first to the lost world. God fills his heart with a love for the lost and places a heavy burden on his heart for their salvation. The LORD gives him the ability to proclaim the gospel with freshness, boldness, and power. The evangelist makes the issue clear: it is faith in Christ as Savior, or judgment under the wrath of God. The evangelist goes out into the world and proclaims the good news of Christ's death and resurrection. Act 21:8 Philip is the only person in the New Testament who is called an evangelist. 2Ti 4:1-5 Timothy was not an evangelist, but he did the work of an evangelist.
