Wesley Wright Lighthouse Bible Church Sunday, August 2, 2026 2Co 10:12-18 Title: Whom does the Lord commend? What you'll hear today: Whose commendation matters? How should you and I boast? The so-called limits of Gentile ministry There's a difference between those who commend themselves, and those whom the LORD commends (2Co 10:12). The former group is without understanding, and without the wisdom of God. Paul already addressed the idea of those who commend themselves earlier in our book, remember: 2Co 3:1-7 Those who commend themselves set up a false standard that they (of course) met: Pro 26:12, Mat 21:23-32 The unbelieving world badly needs God's wisdom... for full notes: http://www.lbible.org/index.php?proc=msg&sf=vw&tid=1800

Our study of Matthew's account of our Lord's transfiguration in glory is the focus of this study. This most likely occurred on Mount Hermon a few miles from Caesarea Philippi.Peter thought it was good to be here. Dr. Mitchell gives us Peter's response to what he was seeing and hearing and asks, "How did Peter know these men were Moses and Elijah? As a cloud comes over the disciples, a voice speaks out of the cloud from heaven to Jesus saying "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased".Then, God the Father, speaking to the disciples says, "You Listen to Him." Jesus is who God wants us to listen to. Do you do this? Do I do this?Is your Bible open as we read His Word? As you listen, He will speak to you. Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Matthew 17:1-8.

In this passage, Paul transparently describes what he has experienced in his ministry as an apostle. It serves as an autobiographical self-commendation for the purpose of calling the church at Corinth to repent of their estrangement from the apostle. This was necessary for their spiritual health (6:14–7:16). Among other lessons, we learn, under three headings, what characterises God-commended ministry: 1. A Faultless Claim (v. 3) 2. A Favourable Commendation (vv. 4–10) 3. A Fatherly Concern (vv. 11–13)

The Bible and Your Conscience #1
What is your response to this sin cursed world? With so many trials and injustices all around us, what should we, as Christians, do? The answer is surprising. And liberating.
This week we continue discussing a talk Hudson Taylor gave to a group of missionaries in the late 1800s. His talk was grounded in 2 Corinthians 4:1-2 and focused on the importance of leading a life consistent with the teachings of Christ. There is so much to highlight, Dr. John Snyder and Teddy James couldn't fit it all into one episode (or even two). So today they take a deep look at what it means to commend oneself to the world. We do not do so to bring glory to ourselves, but to show the world our message is true and can be lived upon. There are other fruits beyond evangelism. By living in the power of Christianity before those we love, we protect them from false teachers. Heresies are not powerful enough to live upon. Only the gospel is. So if we want to teach others the true gospel and give them answers to the false teachings, we must lead holy lives. Hebrews 11:1-7 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. 4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Key Words: Faith, Believe, Assurance, Conviction, Commend, Please, Righteous Keystone Verse: Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
