For instance, did you know mistletoe was revered by the celts and has its place in Greek/Roman symbolism and Norse mythology? Or where kissing under mistletoe even comes from? Lets have some festive fun this episode and talk about the history and toxicity of the plants we love to decorate with this time of year! Harmony Christian Church
Week 3 – Where Do We Go When We Die?

Harmony Christian Church

Are we living like the reality of eternity matters? It's time to get real about our future and what happens when we die. Tune in Sunday and hear Kent unpack what the bible says about where we go after we die and what that might look like! EASY TO GIVE at Harmony, text any amount to (859) 459-0316 to get started (or give online @ my.harmonychurch.cc/give). Get the fill in the blank bulletins my.harmonychurch.cc/bulletins. OPENING ILLUSTRATION: Did any of you grow up going to haunted houses? I went almost every year growing up. There was something about standing in line to get the tar scared out of you. To come face to with some of your nightmares is incredibly scary. Today, we are going to talk about the afterlife Specifically, What happens to us when we die? Where do we go? What do we know about the afterlife? The biggest thing I want you to know is that if you are in Christ, nothing we talk about today, should scare you: 1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. At the end of the day, even if what we walk through today, some of it may feel like a horror house, for those of you who are in Christ - you are safe - because he who is in you is greater than the one in the world. So, I want to give you .. Some ground rules 1. I will point out where the Bible is clear and specific 2. I will point out when the bible is not clear and leaves room for interpretation 3. I will tell you when something is my opinion So, let's jump into it: What happens to a Christian when they die? -do you become a naked baby that's interested in archery? -are you singing on a cloud with a harp? -do you become an angel? Most Christians believe their eternal/final resting place will be in heaven (a spiritual reality) - but this is not what the scriptures say: Revelation 21:1 & 3 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. Our final resting place will be a physical reality - similar to our current reality. It will not be this dry boring place - when you read the descriptions of eternity - the things that we consider precious on earth are used as paving stones… So, when is this new heaven and earth established? there will be a great war - armageddon -all the peoples of the earth will gather to war against God -and the battle is just over… After it, Rev says this… Revelation 20:11-15 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. ILLUSTRATION: Normally when you see someone being convicted of a crime - they pay for what they did, but in Rev 20 -the offended is God Himself and when He opens the book of life, all He sees is your name with Jesus' blood covering it -you are forgiven… Those with no relationship with Christ will be cast into the lake of fire Isaiah 66:24 24 “And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.” What about those who have already died? What happens between now and the judgment? Where do we go? What is that existence like? B For Christians, we go to the spiritual reality that most of us think about when we think about heaven. Philippians 1:21-24 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. Paul understood that If he were to die, he would “be with Christ” While Jesus was on the cross, the thieve asked him to remember him, and Jesus said, Luke 23:43 43 And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.” Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:1-2 & 6-8 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, 6 Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. 7 For we live by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So, in death, the follower of Jesus is not simply unconscious awaiting the judgment. They are translated into a spiritual reality with Christ. So, just A couple of quick questions: 1. Do the dead know or care about what is going on here and now? 2. Do dead people watch what goes on here? Revelation 6:9-10 9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” The martyrs under the altar clearly care about ending the suffering on earth, but it is not clear if they are actively observing it Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us Lots of people have connected this passage to saying dead Christians are watching us as a cloud of witnesses -but the cloud of witnesses is clearly describing the faithful in Chapter 11 - they those who have run the race before us and cheer us on It is not clear if the cloud of witnesses is meant to be taken as them literally watching your every moment. B We do know that Jesus was watching Stephen as he was killed for his belief in Jesus. Acts 7:55-56 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” Luke 15 Jesus tells two parables that say all heaven rejoices when a sinner repents So, do dead Christians pay attention to us? Maybe? We don't really know. My opinion - as long as it doesn't become an obsession, it's not a “wrong” thing to think someone might be looking down on you. 2. Will we become angels when we die? This is a misapplication of Matt. 22:29-32 where Jesus says we become LIKE angels in regards to marriage Note: this passage also shows how God is the God of the living, not the dead - He speaks of ancient Jewish superstars as though they are alive So, what happens to those who do not know Christ before the judgment? I'm going to give you a few possibilities: 1. They go to Hades (Sheol in Old Testament) The parable in Luke 16 with a rich man and a leprous beggar - Lazarus who both die - the rich man dies and he goes to hades… the leper goes to Abraham's bosom. -it is possible that those who die who are wicked - those who die apart from the forgiveness of Jesus go to hades, essentially hell. 2. Their souls roam around in a spiritual wasteland that is dry and arid, searching for bodies to inhabit - this = “Hades” It just got freaky, right? Let me give you a quick argument for this one And let me be clear What I am saying is that the demons the New Testament speaks of are the disembodied souls of wicked people - what we would call a ghost. B “But I thought demons were fallen angels?” B There is no biblical evidence for this - the bible speaks of demons and fallen angels separately, but never equates the two. The Bible refers to demons as wicked impure or unclean spirits that possessed people and caused either mental or physical ailments and were under the authority of Satan (Beelzebub) Alexander Campbell - the founder of our movement of Christian churches wrote a great article on why we should think of demons as the disembodied souls of the wicked, I'm going to give you the quick version During the time of Jesus, the popular belief of the Greek/Roman world, the Jewish world, and the first couple centuries of Christian writers was that Demons were the disembodied souls of people - what we would call ghosts -actually, the Romans and Greeks thought of demons as good things - spirits that gave them special wisdom -it is only in the New Testament that we learn they are unclean spirits - meaning not of God When Jesus interacts with and confronts demons - He never corrects the thinking to say, “You've heard demons were dead people, but they are angels”. Instead, He operates within the assumption. With this concept in mind, listen to this passage where Jesus talks about unclean spirits: Matthew 12:43 43 “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. If impure spirits are those of people who are not with Christ, it would mean that those who die without Christ are roaming around in a spiritual desert, their only respite is to possess a human body and gain control over it - they seek out to be in the form that they have known their entire life… this is a terrifying proposition in my mind. Jesus understood how terrifying this whole prospect was Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. CLOSING ILLUSTRATION: I've had lots of scary moments in my life. Recently I made a super dumb choice while driving. It was only by the grace of God I didn't kill both myself and my wife. I pulled out with a car coming from the left and one from the right I didn't see. I ended up fish tailing and missing death by inches. You ever had one of those moments where you preempt your wife and you're like, "I know that was dumb..." Normally I'm pretty cool in those moments, but in that one, I knew we were inches from death. My heart was beating a million miles an hour thinking about the consequences of my actions... Some of you are closer to death than you know and you are acting like the consequences of your actions don't matter. I promise you. One day you will stand in front of the creator of the universe and you will be asked one question. What did you do with Jesus. If you chose to follow Him to let Him be your redeemer your name will be in the lambs book of life and you will walk with God. If not, you will have a wasteland of hell before you. Please, Please choose Jesus! It is time for you to turn on your old life and run away from it, leave it all behind…

Elements as Relationships: the four elements connect to a variety of stories across Turtle Island, with the significance of the number four (4 winds, 4 directions, 4 colours, 4 peoples, 4 ways of living etc.) and how they balance one another. Within the Circle of Life (sometimes referred to as the Medicine Wheel), the four elements - water, fire, earth, air, represent the balance of creation, the relationships between each element, and humans in relation to the Earth. Casey Eagle Speaker (Kainai Nation) says “We are the Land. Our skeletons the mountains/rocks, our breath the wind, our tears the water, our emotions and spirit like the fire.” Sacred Defenders of the Universe @ TELUS Spark Science Centre Boarders: boarders often disconnect (through politics or conflict), but Dr. Chavez challenges us to think about how boarders can connect by recognizing every tribes unique location (with unique medicines, winds, animals, stories) and each human's unique gift. How can we better gather together as inter-tribal peoples to learn from one another? Great article by Marcy Angeles of Nednhi Chiricahua Apache. Senses & Navigation: because of easy access to google maps, humans have become so disconnected from the Land and navigation. Next time you are outside, pay attention to your senses, how can you use them to navigate? Listen to the patterns of the birds, the flow of the rivers, the waves of the ocean, the smells of the flowers, observe the pathways of the sun in relation to the horizon/mountains/stars. Significance of Names: names are identity and can represent gifts, significant moments/achievements, are often gifted in ceremony, and can hold responsibilities. When names are changed, be it a human or a place, these connections to culture and identity are lost. Next time you are driving or walking, pay attention to the street, river, valley, mountain names, whose stories do they reflect? Indigenous Naming Practices, Renaming, Renaming in Canada, Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada. Polyanesian Wayfinding: People have been journeying across Mother Earth (over Land and Waters, and in the Sky) for thousands of years, to connect with other communities, trade medicines and food, follow animal migrations, and share knowledge. Navigation using relationships between sky, land, and water, is extremely complex, mathematical, and relational, and stories of the Hokulea are a great way to begin your journey in better understanding this type of Indigenous and Relational science. Hawaiian Navigation, Sticks to Navigate. Tipis & Telescopes: an incredible Indigenous Science Knowledge gathering hosted by the one and only Wilfred Buck. Humans have all looked up at the same skies, but every community, across continents and lands created stories (connected to their own culture, animals, medicines, knowledges, weather) in connection to the stars. Unfortunately, there is often a singular story and name, often from Greek/Roman origin, that we connect with the stars. Tipis and Telescopes embraces and shares stories from various Indigenous communities about the stars and the sky.  Lands of the Duwamish Remember to support the podcast by purchasing some merch! Hanging above the entrances of the wings and the main building are the heads of mythological figures from the Greco-Roman pantheon, made from the same buff Indiana limestone that makes up most of the capitol building's exterior.  The busts were carved by the New York stonemason and artist, John Donnelly, Sr. and represent various Greek/Roman deities, including Zeus/Jupiter, God of Sky and Thunder; Poseidon/Neptune, God of Sea, Storms, Earthquakes and Horses; and Athena/Minerva, Goddess of Wisdom and War. A decade of failure has brought us here, the Tenenbaum children scattered across New York and the seas, and their father, Royal, at last estranged. What will happen when we get everyone back under one roof? This is the start of our mini-series on the works of Wes Anderson, everyone's favorite symmetry-obsessed, pastel-painted auteur. In our exploration of The Royal Tenenbaums, we'll uncover mythological and historical connections hidden in the pastiche. Written around 55AD, we learn so much about HOW the church should behave from the ‘mis-behavior' of the Corinthians. The Gospel Church is NEW to the Greek/Roman world… and has really only been in existence for 20 years. It would be expected that the 'early Christians-- especially new believers from such a corrupt and promiscuous city like Corinth-- would have lots of issue. They did!! . Paul addresses many of those issues... divisions, sexual behavior, pagan practices, lawsuits and the like... in his glorious letters to this new church. Why do so many Christians have trouble understanding the Bible or correctly interpreting it? A big part of those problems is how we think. Subconscious Realms Episode 35 - Alchemy - The Mad Hatter. Ladies & Gentlemen, it's a true Honour indeed that we have such an Incredible opportunity to have the Phenomenal - The Mad Hatter, an Extraordinary Individual For Sure. Now, Hands-Down Alchemy has to be one of the most Fascinating subject's Period. Alchemy encompasses several philosophical traditions spanning some four millennia & 3 continents. These traditions' general penchant for cryptic & symbolic language makes it hard to trace their mutual influences & "genetic" relationships. One can distinguish at least three major strands, which appear to be mostly independent, at least in their earlier stages: Chinese alchemy, centered in China; Indian alchemy, centered on the Indian subcontinent; & Western alchemy, which occurred around the Mediterranean & whose center has shifted over the millennia from Greco-Roman Egypt to the Islamic world & finally medieval Europe. Chinese alchemy was closely connected to Taoism & Indian alchemy with the Dharmic faiths. In contrast, Western alchemy developed its philosophical system mostly independent of but influenced by various Western religions. It is still an open question whether these three strands share a common origin, or to what extent they influenced each other. The start of Western alchemy may generally be traced to ancient & Hellenistic Egypt, where the city of Alexandria was a center of alchemical knowledge & retained its pre-eminence through most of the Greek & Roman periods. Following the work of André-Jean Festugière, modern scholars see alchemical practice in the Roman Empire as originating from the Egyptian goldsmith's art, Greek philosophy & different religious traditions. Tracing the origins of the alchemical art in Egypt is complicated by the pseudepigraphic nature of texts from the Greek alchemical corpus. The treatises of Zosimos of Panopolis, the earliest historically attested author (fl. c. 300 CE), can help in situating the other authors. Zosimus based his work on that of older alchemical authors, such as Mary the Jewess. Pseudo-Democritus, Agathodaimon, but very little is known about any of these authors. The most complete of their works, The Four Books of Pseudo-Democritus, were probably written in the first century AD. Alchemy, in particular this episode, basically get your Mind deep into that Cosmic Dimension, have it wide open & Embrace the Oncoming Onslaught. The info alone will Bend your Mind Inside-Out for sure. * Mad Hatter - IG # @hatter_will_happen * "It all makes sense now. This place is magnification, concentration, purification. Pluto Through the Houses in the Natal Chart

Episode 151. Pluto is a dwarf planet and the ninth planet from the Sun. It has five known Moons circling around it. Although astronomers tried to demote it, Pluto is still important in astrology. Named after the Greek/Roman god of the underworld,. it's the modern ruler of Scorpio. Pluto is associated with transformation, destruction, creation, regeneration, power, and rebirth. Wherever it sits in your chart shows where you can experience great transformation. However, if afflicted it can show where you become obsessed with power - or abuse it. 1st: Pluto in the first house indicates you are intense and possess a powerful will. Your early life may be filled with stressful situations, but this serves to make you more self-aware. It's possible you may possess clairvoyant abilities as well. Your physical body is powerfully built and you have a strong presence. When you walk into the room, people notice. There is a bit of an aloof quality to your personality. If negatively aspected, you may be difficult to live with and unwilling to cooperate with others. 2nd: Pluto in the second house means you have a strong hustle. You're ambitious for cash and will work hard to achieve material success. You can be extremely resourceful in how you make money. But if afflicted, you may be selfish with your money or you may experience trouble with inheritances, taxes, joint finances, or speculation. 3rd: Pluto in the third house indicates a penetrating mind, one that is able to see through the bullshit and get to the bottom of things. This makes you a natural detective. You have strong opinions and are not afraid to state them either. Your mind is deep and you're great at keeping secrets. If afflicted, you may suffer from bouts of depression - or might be vindictive. 4th: Pluto in the fourth indicates a need to be in control of your home. You want to be the center of attention and king of the castle. This could mean dominating your loved ones - power plays with family could cause friction. If your Pluto is poorly aspected, you may lose a parent early in life or there may be big-time skeletons in the family closet. 5th: Pluto in the fifth house blesses you with natural creativity. You are in touch with your muse and able to tap into genius ideas. Love is an all-or-nothing game. If it's not deep, you're not interested. Your goal: merge with the partner. If Pluto is afflicted, you may be too domineering with your romantic partner or children. It's also probably wise to not gamble if Pluto isn't well aspected in this house. 6th: Pluto in the sixth house could mean you find transformation through your work - or you may possess the ability to transform working conditions. For example, you could be a labor attorney or you may be involved in the healing industry. Because the 6th house is associated with health, you may need to apply your willpower to overcome poor habits and improve your health. If afflicted, you may experience power struggles on the job - or might neglect your body. 7th: Pluto in the seventh house could mean your life is transformed through partnerships. Some of your biggest lessons happen through others - and certain relationships could alter your life in a profound way. You have strong insights into other people's motives, which could make you an excellent psychologist. If poorly aspected, you may try to dominate your partners - or they may try to rule over you. 8th: Pluto in the eighth house elevates intuition. You may be clairvoyant or aware of the energy around you. Your faith is strong and so is your will. When life gets tough, your strength emerges. If Pluto is afflicted, you may experience power struggles over inheritances, insurance, taxes, and joint resources. Sometimes a poorly aspected Pluto in this house can indicate sexual obsession. 9th: Pluto in the ninth house gives a strong interest in transforming the self through higher education, spirituality, or travel. You want to be the biggest, best version of yourself - and are willing to go as far as necessary to achieve that. You're ambitious and competitive, which may drive you to succeed wildly in academics. Social justice is important to you and your moral compass is strong. If afflicted, you could be a religious or political fanatic. You might even try to force your views on other people, which could make you unpopular. 10th: Pluto in the 10th house means you can achieve distinction in your career. You're ambitious for power and will do whatever it takes to get it. You may be a world leader or gifted politician. If you choose to enter politics, you'll want to remain focused on taking care of the public. If you decide to focus on power alone, you'll easily turn into a dictator. If Pluto is afflicted, you may become a controversial figure with a circle of enemies determined to bring you down. 11th: Pluto in the 11th may indicate powerful friends and involvement in group activities centered around humanitarian concerns. You could be a dynamic leader and may attract allies who want to further your mission. If poorly aspected, there could be financial losses through friends - or friendships may suddenly end without rhyme or reason. Some of those friends could become frenemies. 12th: Pluto in the 12th house blesses you with deep spiritual insights and psychic abilities. You're also keenly interested in helping folks, which may lead to work in hospitals, institutions, or charities. Time alone is essential for your well-being, especially if you spend much of your time taking care of other people. If afflicted, you may experience betrayal from secret enemies. You could also be obsessive over slights which may lead to a vindictive streak.

Rather the stories of Jesus are repeated themes for the reader to contrast and compare. The first thirteen verses of the Gospel of Mark are written from God's perspective followed by verses that reflect man's bewilderment at Jesus' teachings. Today's lesson reviews three aspects: the writer's Perspective, Greek/Roman influence, and the Biblical concept.

At the end of the day, even if what we walk through today, some of it may feel like a horror house, for those of you who are in Christ - you are safe - because he who is in you is greater than the one in the world. So, I want to give you some ground rules 1. Most Christians believe their eternal resting place will be in heaven (a spiritual reality) - but this is not what the scriptures say: Revelation 21:1 & 3 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. Our final resting place will be a physical reality - similar to our current reality.  It will not be this dry boring place - when you read the descriptions of eternity - the things that we consider precious on earth are used as paving stones… So, when is this new heaven and earth established? there will be a great war - armageddon-all the peoples of the earth will gather to war against God-and the battle is just over…After it, Rev says this… Revelation 20:11-1512 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. ILLUSTRATION: Normally when you see someone being convicted of a crime - they pay for what they did, but in Rev 20-the offended is God Himself and when He opens the book of life, all He sees is your name with Jesus' blood covering it-you are forgiven… Those with no relationship with Christ will be cast into the lake of fire Isaiah 66:2424 “And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind.” But what happens between now and the judgment? Do dead people watch what goes on here? Revelation 6:9-10 9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”  The dead martyrs under the altar clearly care about ending the suffering on earth, but it is not clear if they are actively observing it Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us Lots of people have connected this passage to saying dead Christians are watching us as a cloud of witnesses-but the cloud of witnesses is clearly describing the faithful in Chapter 11 - those who have run the race before us and cheer us on It is not clear that the cloud of witnesses is meant to be taken that they literally are watching you every moment B We do know that Jesus was watching Stephen as he was killed for his belief in Jesus Acts 7:55-56 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” Did you notice Jesus stood as he watched Stephen's death? In Luke 15 Jesus tells two parables that say all heaven rejoices when a sinner repents, so do dead Christians pay attention to us?  Maybe, we don't really know. My opinion - as long as it doesn't become an obsession, it's not a “wrong” thing to think someone might be looking down at you. 2.  Will we become angels when we die? This is a misapplication of Mt. They go to HadesThe parable in Luke 16 with a rich man and a leprous beggar - Lazarus who both die - the rich man dies and he goes to hades…  the leper goes to Abraham's bosom. Let me give you a quick argument for this one And let me be clear what I am saying is that the demons the New Testament speaks of are the disembodied souls of wicked people - what we would call a ghost B “But I thought demons were fallen angels?” B There is no biblical evidence for this - the bible speaks of demons and fallen angels separately, but never equate the two. The bible refers to demons as wicked impure or unclean spirits that possessed people and caused either mental or physical ailments and were under the authority of Satan (Beelzebub) Alexander Campbell - the founder of our movement of Christian churches wrote a great article on why we should think of demons as the disembodied souls of the wicked, I'm going to give you the quick version. During the time of Jesus, the popular belief of the Greek/Roman world, the Jewish world, and the first couple centuries of Christian writers was that Demons were the disembodied souls of people - what we would call ghosts-actually, the Romans and Greeks thought of demons as good things - spirits that gave them special wisdom-it is only in the New Testament that we learn they are unclean spirits - meaning not of God When Jesus interacts with and confronts demons - He never corrects the thinking to say, “you've heard demons were dead people, but they are actually angels”. CLOSING ILLUSTRATION: I had some friends years back who opened a haunted house.  It was super good and creepy.  I went through it and the whole time I walked through it, I was making jokes to keep the fear at bay.  I would talk to the people who had jumped out at you.  Told the clown he looked nice, all those kinds of things. It had worked, all the way to getting close to the exit.  We were in a pitch-black hall, and all you could see was this little bit of light showing the way out.  I'm making my jokes and walking, knowing I'm almost out.  When out of nowhere, this ghoulish-looking woman chained to a wall in a pitch-black corner jumps into my face and screams, “Kent!!!!” I'm telling you, I almost lost it!  I screamed like a 4-year-old girl and ran off, leaving everyone behind… I think a lot of you in this room are walking towards a barren wasteland of death and destruction - a hell, that won't be the back room of the bar where everyone is partying, it will be the most terrifying thing you have ever experienced.  And you are just making jokes, “I'll be the one driving the bus to hell…” I'm hoping that today you felt God scream your name and it scared the pee out of you… It is ok to be driven to Jesus out of fear but it's even better when you turn to Him and realize His deep love for you, He wants to be in eternity with YOU!.. It is time for you to turn on your old life and run away from it, leave it all behind… ----------------------

After surviving emergency brain surgery in 2004, E. Haase created several multi-media works for one purpose: to communicate his vision concerning humanity's role in earth's environmental future. He received this information in a near death experience which occurred during a six-hour craniotomy to suture a burst aneurysm. His latest work stemming from this experience is the interactive book "Apocalypse Near". The book is being released in several editions including e-books, audio books and traditional bound books containing links to supplementary media on the author's websites. The book is a novelization of his screenplay of the same title. Haase's first effort to communicate how humankind may achieve a symbiotic relationship with the environment was www.consciousconsumers.net. Haase feels much of this site was uploaded to his consciousness during an out of body experience while in surgery. Following a year of constant work on consciousconsumers.net Haase became despondent because he felt he wouldn't reach enough people in time to avoid the horrible part of his vision of earth's future. Haase asserts that during his near death experience he saw earth as if he was looking at it from space and watched it change into a dead, moon-like apparition. Haase said, "It happened in an instant; I saw the planet die of Consumption. Then it was like I was turned around to see a biologically healthy earth. The message I felt being communicated was that one of these circumstances would soon occur and which would happen was a choice being made by humankind." More concerning this experience is fused with the fictional drama of "Apocalypse Near". Haase's intends to use drama in the tradition of early Greek & Roman dramas which he opines were more about inspiring the behavior of populations than entertainment. Apocalypse Near" fuses several electronic mediums, performance art and environmental activism into what Haase calls "REFORMance art". The story begins beneath a highway overpass where a young man lays sleeping. His well-heeled appearance indicates he's no average drifter. The man appears to be dreaming. We enter his supernatural communication with what looks like a supernova as it foretells a mission concerning the collapse of earth's operating system. A passerby observes him have a seizure and calls an ambulance. In hospital he's found to be suffering a brain hemorrhage. Surgery saves him but lack of identification and physiological anomalies beget a mystery. Upon waking the man claims no memory of himself. His only memories concern his mission to stop earth's environment from crashing. When asked his name he claims to only remember the sound "E" so hospital staff call him "E". He demands a laptop and Internet connection to upload his "Viridian REVELution" campaign to save earth. This begets an adventure, which will determine the survival of earth's biosphere and be the opening battle in his declared "war on war". A love triangle between "E", the nurse who found him and an elusive muse communicating with him in dreams develops as he begins his quest. "E" discovers he must defeat an invisible enemy invading earth from another dimension. This enemy is composed of dark matter, powered by dark energy and running a superior operating system. Their job is to delete the inferior human product line before humans destroy earth's "bio-drive". In the end "E" finds his identity may give him the ability to rescue earth and undertake what will become his future mission in the war in heaven. The next two books of the trilogy cover this inter-dimensional conflict and the outcome of the protagonist's "War on war". The parallel between Haase's real life and the book's fiction is why Haase subtitled it "a metaphysical autobiography". Haase said "I didn't intend to write this book. It was a case of automatic writing. The book would not exist apart from my N.D.E. and fight to get my life back. It's a metaphysical manifestation in the true sense of the word." Haase believes he may have created a new genre which he calls "Hyper-Reality". The "Viridian REVELution" website at: http://www.consciousconsumers.net/revelution/ is another piece of Haase's real environmental mission that is now embedded into the book's interactive fiction. There is a famous pasuk (line) in this parsha - one that every Millenial / Gen Z, socially conscious person you know has written on their water bottles, computers, coffee cups, etc — צֶ֥דֶק צֶ֖דֶק תִּרְדֹּ֑ף, Justice, justice, you shall pursue. In context and out of context, it's such a powerful line. The command “tirdof” meaning “you shall pursue” from the verb לִרְדוֹף, implies chasing, hunting, going after with energy. It's not “casually saunter after justice” or “go get some justice if you feel like it.” There's no qualifier or anything, it's just “Go after it.” This is the point in my dvar-writing that I absolutely went down a rabbit hole in the internet. I didn't know this, but in modern Hebrew, the planet Jupiter is called Tzedek??? What even!?!? If you went through a super enthusiastic Greek / Roman mythology phase like I did in junior high, you will know that Jupiter was the Roman equivalent / parallel to Zeus in Greek mythology. Jupiter is the biggest planet and Zeus / Jupiter are considered the “head gods” so that makes sense that the planet is named for them. But what's the connection with tzedek? I should really do some more substantial research on this, but Zeus's thing was being the god of Order and Justice, ahem: tzedek, righteousness. So this choice of calling the planet Jupiter, “Tzedek” after the Green / Roman god its named after, is just modern Hebrew paralleling Greek and Roman culture. This parsha is full of commands against worshipping idols or other false gods, so it's a tad funny that a word so central to the parsha is relatively related to these aforementioned “other gods.” And once I was down the rabbit hole of roots of Hebrew words or associations with certain Hebrew words, I couldn't stop. Thanks to an essay I found online by Rabbi Jacob Chinitz, I have learned that there are literally 10 different words the Torah uses in referring to “law” - din, tzedek, dvar, mishmeret, mitzvah, torah (lowercase, not the Torah), mishpat, chok, edut, and ot. And they can mean anything like commandment, judgment, observance, righteousness, rule, sign, statute, teaching, testimony, or word. These are not simply interchangeable synonyms, but they overlap so much in meaning! But I'm digressing - we're focusing on tzedek. And tzedek is really hard to truly define. At its root, tzedek is the act of doing what is right, it doesn't really refer to punishments (like “din”) or corrective actions (like “mishpat”). It encompasses the way we treat one another, the way we defend those who cannot defend themselves, the way we help those in need. Tzedek is the root of the word “tzedakah” which is often not-totally-accurately translated as “charity.” Charity comes from the Latin root “caritas” referring to the “Christian love of your fellow human beings.” Tzedakah is not giving because you feel like it, or giving because it makes you feel warm inside. Tzedakah is the duty, the moral obligation to give and to care for our fellow people. This brings to mind another part of the parsha - a bit later, we read about the procedure if a dead body is found and the cause is unknown. The elders and judges of the area should measure to which city the body was found closest to. That city that is closest to where the body was found is to send their elders to proclaim that they had nothing to do with this death, and then they sacrifice an “unworked calf” in a “rough, unworked valley.” Cont'd… For full text, email me at shirajkaplan@gmail.com or join my email list here. opening theme: reCreation by airtone (c) copyright 2019 Licensed --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/shira-kaplan/support

None of us subscribe to the idea but we find it an interesting idea and movement to learn from, both in what they use as evidence and what kind of person believes in Mythicism. The Seven Streams Method

Download I Corinthians 15-16 We are in the Church Stream finishing the book of I Corinthians today. We are using the New American Standard Bible this week. 7streamsmethod.com | @7StreamsMethod | @serenatravis | #7Stream | Donate Commentary by Dr. Drake Travis 15 - The theme, in case anyone missed it, is: THE RESURRECTION.  Christ Jesus raised from the dead and we who are His and with Him shall raise from the dead too.  Paul belabors that Jesus rose, appeared to hundreds, plus the 12, and more times to the chosen ones in Jesus' inner circle. I mean really folks (reading between the lines) do you think all these people were hallucinating in unison? 'can't happen!  Jesus ROSE from the dead.  Believe it for real / forever. Paul explains the order of the Resurrection, the logic of it and the importance of it. Instead of reciting, or rather repeating again what Paul said, it's important to realize what he was encountering as he was traveling through Greece, and Asia Minor:   - - - Paul would periodically have a person in the congregation interject while he/Paul was teaching and preaching.  They would blurt out, "yeah, but He died. They killed Him. Was He a crook? and He let them kill him?...was this because He felt guilty?" The pattern of this century was that when a self proclaimed Messiah came on the scene, He either took over and then He would reign, or he was killed. and between 50 BC and 50 AD scores of "Messiahs" came forth and they were all executed along with their followers. Jesus appeared to be one of them.  The shame associated with following a false Messiah often never left someone who was duped by their false messiah. Jesus' and the events of his last week looked too similar to the false messiahs and so some were puzzled as to how seriously to take Jesus Christ of Nazareth, born in Bethlehem, to a virgin, ad infinitum. So Paul takes this entire ch. 15 to explain to full orb' of the Resurrection of Jesus; it's veracity and the comprehensive logic behind it.  We remember Paul asserting that he was not ashamed of the gospel in Rom. 1:16.  Well he wasn't - and he wanted all others to feel the same way. -The description and Paul making a clear distinction between our bodies here and our bodies in the Resurrection is poignant and necessary. REmember that Corinth is in Greece. The Greeks were obsessed with strength, and bodies, and training and health - the muscle statues all over the empire attest to this.  And along with this, the Greek/Roman perplexity of aging was a mental embarrassment or conundrum of the heart to most all the pagan world.  Why did it have to be that we aged, and weakened and died and were then just ... gone?  The Gospel solved this situation!!. And how quickly will this change be to our new bodies? as fast as one can bat their eye. 16 - The collection of names and concepts listed here is a description of Paul's warm heart for those he is discipling as well as those he is talking about.  He is gathering an offering for Jerusalem Believers.  The instruction and tips that he gives of how to treat each person is wonderful.  He says to thank such and such, honor so and so, care for so and so.  His word for how to treat Timothy was because Timothy was a great teacher yet was insecure regarding his family; a Greek parent and a Jewish parent and Timothy was getting "looked at sideways" in some places and Paul wanted that to stop.  The particulars are a little bit amusing/ /perhaps entertaining in that they give personal insight to the settings and persons back then.  Many of us know what it's like to leave a note for a baby sitter. It says things like, "be sure and make certain that Joey drinks all his milk.  Remember that Jill is afraid of heights so when you do the walk, take the lower path.  Timmy prefers to be read to first thing in the morning as well as at bedtime so be sure to do this. He will miss it if you forget.  Etc.  Paul  just outright cares about all these people and ... He gets it from Jesus.  We should too. We have seen all this week that "completion invites visitation" The Tabernacle was finished at the end of Exodus and God showed up gloriously and the whole nation was is awe - in a way that stuck with them permanently When the Temple is completed in I Kings, the ark is brought in and there is a regal ceremony, prayer and dedication and sacrifices and God appeared to Solomon!! oh my word! In the Psalms this week, especially 76 and 77, we see a completion of a mind going full circle from complaining to enjoying the triumph of God as God's victories and great deeds are recalled. Gratitude brings on the visitation for that is the main thing God wants in our heart. Jeremiah tells of a punishment that is going to be walked through, Jerusalem will fall a remnant will be preserved, just complete the Babylon time and in Jer. 23, he tells us that the Savior will visit... Joel 3 tells that the nations will be judged. Once this is completed there will be a visitation [on the Day of the Lord ] that will be blessings that flow like streams down mountsides and it will be more than just sweet water Luke1 tells of the completion of all the years and preparation coming up to the arrival of the greatest visitation of all time.  It will happen in Luke 2 but by the end of Luke 1 all items and preparation have been completed after 4,000 years since exiting Eden. Angels are visiting - more than once and once all this is completed, the Main Visitation of all time happens [next week!] I Cor. 15 explains the completion of the explanation of the Gospel.  Christ Arose, haleluia.  Paul wanted them to understand this.  And he wanted to visit them again soon.

Paul’s message to the Church of Corinth is particularly relevant for us today. Our culture in many ways mirrors the Greek/Roman culture of Corinth. Products from all over the world came to Corinth. If you wanted it, you could get it in Corinth. The two great Greek athletic festivals were held in Corinth, the Olympian, and the Isthmian games. Corinth was famous for its decadence. The immorality was extreme even in the pagan world of the Roman Empire. In classical Greek, the word corinthiazesthai meant “to behave like a Corinthian.” This was the name for gross immorality and drunken debauchery. Corinth had a high place called the acropolis rising 1875 feet above the city. It held the temple of Aphrodite, the goddess of love (sex). It contained about 1,000 priestesses who were ritual prostitutes. The church of Corinth is similar in many ways to our church. The believers would have been prosperous for the most part. We as a congregation have certainly been materially blessed. We are a gifted congregation with many of you faithfully exercising your spiritual gifts and talents. The Corinthian Christians struggled with being in the world but not of the world. God led Paul to establish a church in this city on his 2nd Missionary Journey. Chapters 1-6 contain Paul’s rebuke for the sinful conditions in the church. Chapters 7-16 Paul is replying to specific questions. There was overall a spirit of division in the congregation which Paul will first address. Daren Ritchey

Geoff and Brian Muraresku, the best-selling author of “The Immortality Key” discuss the provocative theory of psychedelics at the heart of the Ancient Greek and Roman mysteries, early Christianity, and Western Civilization. This isn't a college dorm-room stoner talk. Brian spent over 12 years studying the ancient classics in their original form of Ancient Greek, exploring the Vatican's Secret Archives and underground catacombs, and tying the historical record with the latest analytical and spectral analysis techniques of archaeochemistry to demonstrate a rigorous look at the hypothesis that psychedelics was at the heart of both Greek & Roman mysteries and paleo-Christian eucharist. More on the author and the genesis of "Apocalypse Near" is on the author's website at http://www.imagimedia-inc.com/

his lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient philosopher Aristotle's work of moral theory, the Nicomachean Ethics Specifically it focuses on book 4 of Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics (and some parallel discussions in the Eudemian Ethics), where he discusses the Virtue of Magnanimity or Great-Souledness, the opposed vices of Small-Souledness and Vanity -- and a fourth state of Modesty or Humbleness. This is a particularly important virtue for Aristotle, since it ties together the other virtues (like Justice and Prudence do in their ways). Since Magnanimity is associated with pride, it is also a prime example of a fundamental difference between earlier Greek-Roman ways of understanding the virtues, and Judeo-Christian ways of understanding the virtues. Revelation 2:12-17 This sermon is the third part in a series looking at the letters to the seven Churches of Revelation.  Pergamos was a city distinguished as being one of the chief centres of religious worship, its landscape littered with shrines and altars to the false gods and goddesses of the Greek/Roman world.  In the words of Jesus Christ, the seat of Satan himself!!  As a Church under intense persecution from the dragon Satan, it was bearing up faithfully under severe trial and holding fast the name of Jesus Christ.  However, that said, whilst our Lord praised them for their faithfulness, He rebuked those within Pergamos for allowing and holding to the doctrine of Balaam who cast a stumbling block before God’s people to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication. This sermon is a warning and a challenge to the body of Christ to be on guard against false teachers, who secretly bring in false and damnable heresies, even denying the Lord Himself.  How will the body of Christ discern such false prophets?  By their fruits you shall know them; for such are they that draw away after themselves unstable souls, alluring them through the lusts of the flesh.  Is there a root of covetousness in your heart?  Are you still enamoured by the love of this world?  Are you prepared so as to resist the strategies of the serpent, who even now is deceiving many, turning the grace of God into lasciviousness?

Where did Roman epic poetry come from? In the third century BCE Latin literature emerged in the form of drama and epic. Ancient Greek literature was influential, and Rome’s first epic was a kind of Greek-Roman hybrid, appropriately by an author with a Latin and a Greek name; it was a Greek tale, but written in a native Italian form. This lecture will explore how Roman writers founded a distinctive style by infusing Greek epic with Roman material. We’ll also see how problematic early epic is, for it unfortunately survives only in fragments. Copyright 2014 Rhiannon Evans / La Trobe University, all rights reserved. Contact for permissions.

God is able to take every autonomous decision by independent humanity, and integrate it into the final perfect puzzle that expresses his will. We see that incredibly clearly in the apostle Paul. Integrating Scripture with our other historical knowledge provides us a view of Paul as the perfect piece of the puzzle that not only holds together other pieces, but also fills in the picture. Paul could go to synagogues throughout the Greek/Roman world and attend services as a man who had studied under the great Gamaliel. Paul had impeccable rabbinical credential so every synagogue offered Paul the resurrection believing Pharisee, a chance to teach the resurrected Christ!

In the sixth lecture of the Astrology course, the zodiacal sign Virgo (August 23 - September 22) is explained. Virgo—the zodiacal sign of the virgin—is a beautiful zodiacal sign that has a very profound esotericism. When we study the Greek-Roman mythology, we discover that Mercury - which is the planet that rules or that is in the house of Virgo - is the messenger of the Gods.  In Greek terms, Mercury is called Hermes; this word Hermes is utilized in different ways, for instance, in order to imply that behind certain phrases or terminologies or words, there is something Hermetic, something hidden, which is knowledge, wisdom.  That is why Hermes-Mercury was qualified as the one that brings the word of God; he is the messenger of the Gods.  Pausanias, the great geographer, in his fifth book, shows Mercury sharing a common altar with Jupiter (a curious Prawn gem represents Mercury enthroned and bearing the attributes of Jupiter) this is very significant and profound. We have to inquire, to dig, to delve into the waters in order to discover the mystery of Mercury.
