Hey there, Community! Welcome to Resurrecting the Mind, Body, and Soul Podcast! For starters, we are extremely happy to share that Brian completed his second marathon! Not only did he complete it, he came in under his goal time and achieved a personal best! We are beyond grateful for this accomplishment for so many reasons. Great job, Bud! We hear a lot about success: what it looks like, what steps we need to take to achieve it, how critical visualization is to the process, and it's all about the journey not the end result. While these are significant pieces to reaching our goals, there is another powerful tool we can use to stay on track. What does failure look like to you? Reflecting on this question opens up a whole new way of looking at not only attaining our goals, but what could actually be keeping us from achieving them. Do you fear failure? Does your fear stem from a lack of self-love or self-acceptance? Are you focused too much on other people's opinions? Do you feel unworthy or not qualified enough to achieve your dreams? Are you too comfortable in your comfort zone? Go deep with this question and be brutally honest with yourself. What you discover could change your life. Thank you for your support! Hey there, Community! Thanks for joining us! At the time of this recording, we are in the throes of the Holiday Season, which we can also call The Season Focused on Food. In the midst of this food frenzy, we begin this episode by asking, “which Camp are you signing up for and what is your why?” #1: The “There Are No Limits” Camp #2: The “Everything in Moderation” Camp #3: The “I'm Sticking to the Food is Medicine” Camp We also discuss how our lifestyle choices are directly linked to not only chronic disease, but to Alzheimer's and cognitive decline. We review the key pillars of health: movement/exercise, what we eat/diet, sleep quality, stress management, environmental toxins, and community (relationships). The information we share today regarding Alzheimer's and cognitive decline is based on the work of Dr. Majid Fotuhi, a renowned neurologist, professor, and expert in brain fitness. Dr. Fotuhi has developed a twelve week program which has proved to improve or reverse cognitive decline in over 80% of his patients. To learn more, check out his website @ drfotuhi.com. We also recommend listening to an interview with Dr. Fotuhi on Dr. Hyman's podcast, The Doctor's Farmacy, episode # 817. Additionally, we discuss: 1. The staggering increase of dementia and Alzheimer's in the US over the last few decades. 6 million people to date. 2. A projected 14 million cases will be diagnosed by 2050. 3. The fact that Alzheimer's is a symptom of multiple ongoing and unhealthy conditions in the body (metabolic syndrome). It is not the cause. 4. What does belly fat (visceral fat) tell us about our brain health? 5. There are steps we must take now to turn this around, especially for our children. The evidence is in, folks. Poor lifestyle choices, the desire for quick and easy, and a conventional health care paradigm that focuses on treating not preventing, are a few of the factors leading us straight down the path to Alzheimer's and cognitive decline. The good news is, we can turn this around. The proof is undeniable. It is now time to ask ourselves how much longer are we willing to play victim? How much longer are we going to deny the correlation between lifestyle choices and quality of health? How will we explain to our children that we knew, but we chose to ignore. We encourage each person listening to this to take a stand. Take back your health. Make the hard, uncomfortable choices now that will offer you better health and quality of life. For you and for the children. Please help us spread the word by sharing this podcast. The Ultimate Gift

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 15, 2022 31:30

During this time of year, many of us are thinking about gifts. Picking that perfect gift. Our budget. Wrapping. Mailing them out in a timely manner. We think about the reaction when the person opens our gift. All things gifts. Here are two quotes that really hit home and we thought would be a perfect discussion for today. Let's dive in. “The greatest gift you can give your family and the world is a healthy you.” Of course being our healthiest self is a wonderful gift to our loved ones. This makes complete sense. However, if this is true, why are so many of us struggling with our health? Some possibilities: Lack of knowledge Feeling overwhelmed Feeling hopeless No accountability Not understanding the connection between our mental, emotional, and physical health “Your happiness is the greatest gift you can give your loved ones.” This also makes sense. It's safe to say, we would love to give our loved ones this gift; however, do we even have it to give? What does happiness look like? How do we get it? Before living as our healthiest self or making a difference in someone else's life through our happiness, we have to find it for ourselves first. It starts from within us. Questions to ask ourselves: 1. How committed am I to doing what I need to do to start on my health and happiness journey? 2. Do I know what I need to do to proceed? 3. What is holding me back? 4. Do I need some outside help, encouragement, or support? 5. How will I track my progress? What will success look like to me? 6. What is my plan if I miss my mark? Remember: It isn't about the end goal. It's about every step of the journey. It's about not staying in the past, not living in the future, but embracing the present. Making every minute count. So what is The Ultimate Gift? It might be something different for everyone, but chances are it must first come from within. Keep those questions and comments coming, folks!
