In today's episode, we sit down for a deeply honest and hope-filled conversation about what it looks like to trust God when life takes an unexpected and heartbreaking turn. Tveen Verano shares her journey of walking through her son's cancer diagnosis… not from a place of having it all figured out, but through surrender, grief, and steadfast faith. This conversation is a reminder that faith doesn't always look pretty or put together. That sometimes it looks like showing up and clinging to Jesus, even when the outcome is uncertain. In this episode, we talk about: what it means to grieve and yet still have hope how God meets us in the valley, not just on the mountaintop learning to anchor our hope in Christ rather than in outcomes wrestling honestly with fear, waiting, and unanswered prayers encouragement for anyone who is barely hanging on Whether you're a mom walking through a diagnosis, someone facing unexpected hardship, or simply in a season where faith feels heavy: this episode is for you. This week on the Wednesday Dose of Dopey! Dave kicks off an intensely emotional episode amid personal chaos—grieving Linda's dad's death, a bizarre Verizon outage conspiracy vibe, a $1,100 car repair scam, and a half-hearted gratitude meditation to stay grounded. He reads glowing listener comments on the recent Sid Vicious/Ned Van Zandt heroin epic, plugs stickers for Spotify/iTunes reviews, and shares a powerful email from Sarah E. about her ongoing brutal struggle with 7-OH (7-hydroxymitragynine) dependence after accidents and kratom escalation, highlighting deception, severe withdrawals, and the "master of deception" label despite a strong sober community. The core is a raw, heartfelt interview with returning guest Erin Khar (author of Strung Out, unlicensed advice columnist), who opens up about her recent diagnosis of small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) / chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)—a slow-growing, incurable non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma discovered via routine mammogram/biopsy around Labor Day. Erin details the terrifying pathology call, symptoms (years of unexplained fatigue, anemia, frequent illnesses), watch-and-wait monitoring (no treatment yet until lymphocyte count rises), good-news/bad-news aspects (no chemo likely, keeps her hair, many live normal lifespans especially younger diagnoses like her at 52), and how curiosity over fear helps her cope. They explore parallels to addiction/recovery (one day at a time, sitting on hands during suicidal moments, grief + gratitude coexisting), family impact (kids' anxiety, protecting emotions), quality over quantity of life, and Erin's Substack reveal for connection. Ends with an Ask Erin advice segment, Johnny Thunders love ("Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory"), and Trinity's cover of "Wanna Be Good So Bad". ALL THAT AND MORE MORE MORE! In this intimate and heartfelt episode of I Saved You. Now Do the Dishes podcast, Carrie sits down with her husband, Gavin—the very person who inspired this podcast after his head and neck cancer diagnosis two years ago. With honesty, humor, and the kind of raw vulnerability that only comes from living through it, they revisit the milestone that changed everything. Carrie and Gavin unpack the days leading up to his diagnosis: a strange lump, escalating worry, and the surreal contrast of preparing to host their very first Thanksgiving while bracing for news that would upend their lives. Carrie shares what it was like to sit in the waiting period of uncertainty. Gavin opens up about hoping—really hoping—that the whole thing was nothing more than a big, stubborn boil. Together, they reflect on how fear, denial, intuition, partnership, and even humor carried them through that chapter. This episode is a testament to resilience, love, and the unseen emotional labor of caregiving and being cared for —spouse style. If you've ever navigated a medical unknown, stood in the tension between hope and fear, or loved someone through a life-altering moment, this conversation is for you.

The Health Minister says predictions cancer diagnoses will increase isn't cause for panic. A new report has found the number's likely to double in the next two decades. Simeon Brown says much of that will be down to the ageing population and general population growth. He says that should still prompt Government action. "We have to continue to invest, to ensure that we have more access to cancer treatments, cancer medicines, diagnoses - all of the things that this report has highlighted." What happens when two people face cancer together… with completely opposite coping styles? In today's episode, Jen and Darren get honest (and a little hilarious) about how they navigated breast cancer and brain cancer — one through research and planning, the other through humor and distraction. You'll hear: ✨ How each of us reacted in those first terrifying days ✨ The strengths AND pitfalls of our styles ✨ Why there is no one "right" way to deal with trauma We hope this conversation reminds you that love doesn't require matching emotions — just mutual respect and a willingness to show up, even when fear shows up differently. Because if there's one thing we've learned, it's this: There is no perfect way to cope with cancer… there's only your way.
