In today's episode, Jen and Darren get honest (and a little hilarious) about how they navigated breast cancer and brain cancer — one through research and planning, the other through humor and distraction. You'll hear: ✨ How each of us reacted in those first terrifying days ✨ The strengths AND pitfalls of our styles ✨ Why there is no one "right" way to deal with trauma We hope this conversation reminds you that love doesn't require matching emotions — just mutual respect and a willingness to show up, even when fear shows up differently. Because if there's one thing we've learned, it's this: There is no perfect way to cope with cancer… there's only your way.

Send us a textLive from Pathology Visions 2025 in beautiful San Diego, I sat down with Imogen Fitt from Signify Research to explore how AI, digital pathology, and interoperability are transforming the way we diagnose cancer and deliver patient care. The conference theme, “From Pixels to Patients,” perfectly captures this year's shift — from theoretical discussions about AI to real-world implementation and measurable outcomes. We're no longer just asking “what can AI do?” — we're seeing how it's actually improving accuracy, reducing barriers, and connecting pathologists and labs worldwide. What We Discuss1️⃣ From Hype to Application This year, the buzz wasn't about AI's potential — it was about how it's being used. We highlight case studies showing how digital tools are reducing diagnostic errors, improving collaboration, and even helping smaller labs digitize faster and more affordably.2️⃣ PathPresenter's Expanding Role We dive into PathPresenter's innovative model that gives users access to digital pathology at no initial cost, opening the door for over 75,000 professionals across 62 institutions. I share why I personally use PathPresenter for teaching and how it's helping lower the barrier to entry for education, consultations, and patient care.3️⃣ New Scanning Technology and Accessibility We talk about compact scanners like Grundium's four-slide scanner and new miniature models that make digitization possible even in smaller labs. The message is clear: you don't need a massive system to start going digital.4️⃣ Collaboration and AI in Action Imogen shares updates from across Europe and Asia, including how hospitals are tackling storage, AI regulation, and workflow efficiency. We discuss emerging partnerships—Fujifilm, Voicebrook, Dolby, and others—that are making voice dictation, chat agents, and real-time AI insights part of the modern pathology cockpit.5️⃣ The Human Side of AI Adoption We also reflect on how digital pathology is changing careers and training. Younger pathologists expect digital tools as part of their workflow — and many won't settle for less. We discuss how this new generation is driving adoption and pushing institutions to modernize. My ReflectionsI still remember when digital pathology felt intimidating — when only a few people were “allowed” to touch the scanner. But today, that's changed completely. Now, we're living in an era where AI and digital pathology are not optional — they're essential. The technology has matured, and so has the mindset around it. What excites me most is seeing how collaboration and accessibility are becoming central to innovation.Key TakeawaysAI in pathology is moving from hype to practice — focused on improving patient outcomes.Accessibility matters: smaller, affordable scanners and open platforms are democratizing digital pathology.Collaboration between vendors, clinicians, and technologists is key to faster, smoother adoption. The next generation of pathologists expects — and demands — a digital-first workflow.Listen Now to Learn:How AI is reshaping cancer diagnosisThe tools driving real change in labs todayHow collaboration fuels digital transformation in pathologySupport the showGet the "Digital Pathology 101" FREE E-book and join us!

Dr. Rachel Pope explains how her sister's cancer diagnosis and a patient in Malawi asking "can you fix my vagina" opened her eyes to the massive gap in sexual health education within gynecology. As a fistula repair surgeon working in Sub-Saharan Africa for four years, Dr. Pope realized that even after successfully repairing bladder leaks, many patients couldn't have intercourse due to vaginal scar tissue yet providers never asked about sexual function. Meanwhile, her sister battling cancer was asking basic questions about intimacy that Dr. Pope, despite all her training and a fellowship, couldn't answer. These twin revelations led Dr. Pope to pursue sexual medicine education and eventually building Cleveland's first female sexual health division that spans multiple departments. Her unique background in global women's health, fistula repair, and reconstructive gynecology informs her holistic approach to sexual medicine and menopause care. The conversation also explores Dr. Pope's current research focus on perimenopause and cardiovascular health, believing this critical 10-year window before menopause holds the key to prevention rather than just treatment. She shares her proactive approach to her own perimenopause, including checking baseline testosterone levels at peak ovulation to guide future hormone therapy decisions.Highlights:Sexual function should be assessed after every pelvic surgery, not just assumedObstetric fistulas are still happening globally but were eliminated in the US once C-sections became accessible.Building a sexual medicine division works best when spanning multiple departments for true biopsychosocial care. The fellowship program accepts both urology and OBGYN applicants, with only two OBGYN programs in the country. Her work continues in Africa doing shorter trips and training local surgeons. If this episode inspired you to think differently about international women's health and sexual medicine education, help others discover this conversation by subscribing and leaving a review. Today, Jocelyn is a cancer survivor for 12 years and living a life of love, adventure and music.  During her treatment, Jocelyn began speaking with other patients with life-threatening illnesses about hope and healing, a message she brings to her memoir, “This Day Won't Come Again: Radical Presence and Life-Threatening Illness.” In this episode, Jocelyn recounts that fateful day and what went through her mind after receiving the diagnosis. She explains the message of living “into the best and worst of all that arises when the possibility of our own mortality seems sooner rather than later.”

In this episode, Adam kicks off the show with a surprisingly deep dive into the symbolism and social dynamics of sandwich-making, unpacking how something so simple says a lot about parenting, care, and culture. He then calls out Dr. Drew's notoriously bad bedside manners and rants about people who constantly unload their health issues on him. Later, Adam takes aim at a bizarre Jardiance commercial, tearing into its absurd list of side effects. In the news, Adam reacts to President Biden's first comments after a recent cancer diagnosis and his attempt at humor regarding his mental competency. He questions whether Democrats prioritize gun control over illegal immigration, shares his thoughts on the recent Boulder, Colorado terror attack, and breaks down how mass immigration can influence culture. Finally, Mission Impossible stuntman-turned-actor Stephen Oyoung joins Adam in the studio to talk about his journey into Hollywood, working alongside Tom Cruise, and the crazy world of action filmmaking. They also discuss Asian representation in media, Stephen's SoCal upbringing, his love of martial arts, and how Loveline helped shape his early years. Adam kicks off the show by reminiscing about his co-starring role in Wreck-It Ralph and the surprising reaction it still gets from fans. He then unveils yet another classic Al Pacino scene, this time with Jay Mohr putting his own spin on the character—proving once again that Pacino impressions never get old. From there, Adam riffs on coaster weight, the gnarly side effects of Niacin, Biden's cancer diagnosis, the sheer brilliance of pit crews, and the fine line between first and last place—not just in racing, but in life. Next, Jay Chandrasekhar joins the show and dives into:The universal boyhood obsession with foot speed (because being the fastest kid on the playground is basically royalty). His journey through comedy as an Indian kid in grade school, dealing with stereotypes and British influence over India. The decision to cast himself in movies and TV shows instead of waiting for Hollywood (considering the only Indian "stars" he saw were Fisher Stevens and Peter Sellers in brownface). The hilariously awkward story of wearing his wife's underpants (sometimes you just gotta improvise). Why comedy films should be communal experiences—because laughing alone just isn't the same.Jay and Adam also break down the realities of directing low-budget movies vs. TV shows, and Jay introduces his new app, VouchVault, which he swears will revolutionize review sites and help him finally get revenge on Rotten Tomatoes. They wrap up their chat by agreeing that seeing Phish live is overrated, and Jay shares his comedic influences: John Landis, Eddie Murphy, and Richard Pryor. Naturally, both Jay and Adam declare Spinal Tap the greatest comedy of all time. Jason "Mayhem" Miller joins the show and kicks off the news with a must-see clip of Adam singing "Big Bottoms" with John Popper. From there, the trio dives into the top stories of the day, including:Joe Biden's cancer diagnosis.NYC's most notorious repeat offender—a guy who's been caught 134 times for stealing and still hasn't stopped. And finally, the mind-blowing possibility of science turning lead into gold.Get it on!FOR MORE WITH JAY CHANDRASEKHAR:INSTAGRAM: @jaychandrasekharTWITTER: @jaychandrasekhaAPP: https://www.vouchvault.com/FOR MORE WITH JASON “MAYHEM” MILLER:INSTAGRAM: @mayhemmillerTWITTER: @mayhemmillerWEBSITE: magnvs.io/pages/summit?via=mayhemThank you for supporting our sponsors:BetOnlineCalderaLab.com/ADAMGo to https://hometitlelock.com/adamcarolla and use promo code ADAM to get a FREE title history report so you can find out if you're already a victim AND 14 days of protection for FREE!
