Hey, Community! Welcome back. Research in health and wellness is growing and changing daily. Today's topic is an area that has caught the attention of researchers, scientists, and doctors world-wide in recent years. So, let's dive into the world of gut health and what we need to know about it. In this episode, we discuss the gut microbiome (our internal garden of good and bad bacteria), gut dysbiosis (imbalance), what causes dysbiosis, how this is destroying our health, and what we can do to turn this crisis around. A word of warning…our passion and mission to share information that centers around preventing and reversing disease comes through loud and clear here. It's time we stop beating around the bush, folks, and do the hard work necessary to turn this health crisis around, especially the health and wellbeing of our children. Being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease is becoming the new pandemic. Just in the United States, it is estimated that at least 30% of the population have one or more autoimmune diseases. Still, there is not much awareness of what they are, how it is to be diagnosed with it and, how we can support loved ones who are. This podcast is about how we can all become the CEOs of our health, it is a journey through the method our guest, Dane Johnson, used to heal and is making available to everyone. But most of all, it is an episode of hope, inspiration and how, with the right mindset and support any challenge, as hard as it may seems to us, can be our greatest gift.If you are familiar with this podcast, you know that our host, Pau Feltrin has become a voice bringing awareness of Crohn's disease, one out of 100 autoimmune diseases which, in this case affects the gut. Our guest Dane Johnson shares the same passion: after being diagnosed with a very severe Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, which left him unable to walk, living on a feeding tube and using antibiotics/chemotherapy to keep him alive from a devastating battle with this autoimmune disease, he found a way to hope and healing. Through natural medicine he reversed all symptoms, became drug free, surgery free, and took back his life without worry. Today, Dane runs a successful worldwide company coaching people with Crohn's/colitis how to take back their health, and live a meaningful, joyful life. What if your “gut instinct” or “gut feeling” about someone was more than something metaphysical or woo woo? What if it actually was from one of the organs in your body? Namely, our GUT. Think of this episode as gut health 101: what is our gut and what does it do? What does the word microbiome even mean? What is the nature of the gut-brain connection? What are some signs that our gut health is less than optimal? How can we have a gut reset? Simple answers and simple hacks provided herein. Our guest is British nutritional therapist Eve Kalinik. She is co-host of podcast “The Wellness Collective”, the author of two books: Be Good to Your Gut and Happy Gut, Happy Mind and she regularly writes on the subject of food, nutrition and wellbeing for media platforms and newspapers including The Telegraph, The Guardian, GQ and Vogue. In addition to “gut health for dummies” class, we also discuss Eve's own starting over - moving into functional medicine and nutrition from the busy world of fashion PR, much to the incredulity of her boss who couldn't believe she'd pass up working with Dolce and Gabbana & Givenchy for… gut health. (PS: Eve is pretty content with that start over). We also share some views around serendipity, spirituality, whether things really ‘happen for a reason' and how health & wellness has got to be holistic in nature. I hope you enjoy the episode! Today, I have the honor of connecting with a friend and colleague, Dr. Vincent Pedre. Dr. Pedre is the Medical Director of Pedre Integrative Health and President of Dr. Pedre Wellness. He is also a board-certified internist and incorporates philosophy and the practice of both western and eastern medical traditions. While growing up, Dr. Pedre often got sick. He remembers taking more than twenty rounds of antibiotics throughout his teenage years. Looking back now, as a gut health expert, he understands that antibiotics cause dysbiosis that leads to a leaky gut. As a result, his immune system stopped working properly, and he became reactive to certain foods. Dr. Pedre and I speak about the gut microbiome, gut health, the power of manifestation, the role of the gut microbiome in the brain, the value of elimination diets, and why plateaus are not to be feared. We talk about the metabolism of certain neurotransmitters and the vagus nerve and discuss circadian biology, fermented foods versus fibrous foods, and the need for tapping into the parasympathetic for proper gut microbiome health and digestion. We also get into proactively supporting the gut microbiome and talk about Dr. Pedre's book, Happy Gut. I hope you enjoy today's fascinating discussion with Dr. Pedre! I look forward to having him back once he has completed his next book. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: How did Dr. Pedre's health issues while growing up bring him to his current niche? The best ways to evaluate food reactions. What Dr. Pedre tries to teach his patients about the way their bodies react to food. Dr. Pedre shares his inspiration for writing his book, Happy Gut. Why are so many people who never had gut issues before coming up with them now? It takes time, dedication, patience, and trust to heal gut issues. How does the gut microbiome affect the brain? The role and importance of the gut microbiome. Dr. Pedre talks about the vagus nerve and explains how fermented foods can increase vagal tone and benefit the gut microbiome. How do neurotransmitters get produced as by-products of the metabolism? The gut microbiome is the most complex ecosystem on the planet. The impact of fiber versus fermented foods on the microbiome. Dr. Pedre shares some natural ways to nurture the soul, overcome the stresses of our modern lifestyle, and heal the gut. Some simple and easy ways to strengthen your vagal tone. Dr. Pedre shares some vital aspects of what goes on in the digestive system and explains why fasting is so beneficial. What can you do to lessen the likelihood of becoming weight-loss resistant when you fly long distances frequently? Your surroundings affect your state of health.
