Kevin and Julie explore the transformative power of love in gospel teaching. Drawing from personal experiences, scripture, and Church teaching materials, they introduce the idea of creating a "love bubble"—a classroom environment where everyone walks away feeling deeply loved by God, by their teacher, and by each other. They reflect on how genuine expressions of love can shift the purpose of a lesson from content delivery to soul-deep connection. Through vulnerable stories, practical suggestions, and thoughtful dialogue, they challenge listeners to prepare spiritually, reframe classroom goals, and cultivate Christlike love—even for those who are hard to love._______________Subscribe for more free YouTube Tips: https://www.youtube.com/teachingrestored?sub_confirmation=1Find all episodes: https://teachingrestoredAsk a question for us to answer on our podcast: https://teachingrestored.com/contact-us/Join us on:✅ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/teachingrestored✅ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/teachingrestored✅ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@teachingrestored

Kevin and Julie explore a powerful shift in the way we think about teaching the gospel—moving from simply delivering content to inspiring meaningful, personal transformation. Instead of measuring success by engagement or how smoothly a lesson goes, they suggest a deeper metric: what experience will learners have after class that leads them closer to Jesus Christ? They unpack how to prepare with intention, creating opportunities for students to act, reflect, and become—not just understand. From the importance of anticipation and follow-up to recognizing how the Spirit actually works in our lives, this episode challenges the traditional approach and invites teachers to see themselves as facilitators of lasting spiritual growth._______________Subscribe for more free YouTube Tips: https://www.youtube.com/teachingrestored?sub_confirmation=1Find all episodes: https://teachingrestoredAsk a question for us to answer on our podcast: https://teachingrestored.com/contact-us/Join us on:✅ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/teachingrestored✅ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/teachingrestored✅ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@teachingrestored

They dive into Moroni 7, questioning whether gray areas exist or if everything ultimately leads toward or away from God. Kevin and Julie tackle the common struggles members face when answering questions about their faith—either over-explaining ("verbal vomit") or retreating in discomfort. They introduce a new approach built around three key skills: Answer, Ask, and Empathize. Instead of focusing solely on giving the "perfect" answer, they emphasize connection—helping others feel seen, heard, and valued.Through practical exercises, they explore how to break old habits by answering briefly, asking thoughtful follow-up questions, and practicing empathy. They also discuss the deeper gospel principle of covenantal connection—strengthening our relationship with God by strengthening relationships with others. The result? Kevin and Julie dive into a rich discussion about Stephen Covey's idea of the Circle of Influence vs. the Circle of Concern. Too often, people focus on things they can't control—worrying about how others will react, whether a lesson will resonate, or if a class will stay on topic. But the real power lies in focusing on what we can influence: preparing well, inviting the Spirit, and creating an environment where learning can happen. They discuss the difference between influence and control—influence is about guiding and inspiring, not forcing outcomes. The best teaching happens when we let go of the uncontrollable and put energy into what we can shape._______________Subscribe for more free YouTube Tips: https://www.youtube.com/teachingrestored?sub_confirmation=1Find all episodes: https://teachingrestoredAsk a question for us to answer on our podcast: https://teachingrestored.com/contact-us/Join us on:✅ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/teachingrestored✅ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/teachingrestored✅ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@teachingrestored
Kevin has been doing some ethnographic research (or "ethnologolacking" as Julie says in the episode). He wanted to know what classes were made up of. So he started really listening and categorizing the teacher's comments and the class' responses. What he found was eye-opening. This wasn't done to be judgey, but to realize what makes up a lesson. Using the method Kevin creates may be a great way to learn what makes up your class. We'd recommend that you use something similar and learn the ingredients of your class time. Can a messy lesson the perfect one? Too often we think about the perfect lesson as the one which followed the lesson plan, made it through all the points we wanted to share, and everyone was in the scriptures. But what if it becomes a bit messy and doesn't follow the plan. Could that still be the perfect lesson? Kevin and Julie discuss creating the lesson, putting it on the alter and letting God touch it with His power and making it something more incredible than we could ever do, and yet it may be very messy. Why? Agency. You'll have to listen for it to make sense.
Let's flip things and put on the hat of the learner, not the teacher. What is YOUR responsibility as a learner? What should happen if you are not being fed the way you want to be fed? Often times we can be pretty myopic in our view of who we are teaching to. We may be teaching a young men's class, or a primary or Sunday school class and we obviously know who is in the class, right? Or do we? Too often, as teachers, we go into a classroom thinking, "Alright. Do I have everything with me? I hope Sally isn't as distracting as she was last time. I wonder if I'll get the points across? Will they even listen?" We have all these things swimming in our minds, and yet one of the most important things to be in our minds, isn't: The fact that we have been set apart and have the power of God to teach. When we understand this, we can go in with confidence, boldness, and love knowing those who we speak with will be better for the discussion. How do we get our minds in that state? "We have some people who are derailing the class, who are long winded and they contradict others. They take over the class, in a way, and disrupt the flow of what she's trying to teach, which is frustrating for every teacher." Have you ever been in that position? We all have. It's tough. So how do we deal with it? How do we create a healthy classroom culture where each member has enough trust in the others that they can share what might be intimate feelings? Too many times we teach the youth and we speak at them. When we do, they shut up. They don't share. Not their feelings, not their testimonies, not anything sometimes. But if we don't talk, neither will they! So what do we do? Julie takes us through a discussion on... - What a testimony REALLY is - How do we help the youth articulate their testimony - How do we create an environment where they feel comfortable sharing it. How many times have we wanted to teach our family the gospel, so we model it after the classes at church? We gather everyone around and a parent leads a discussion and speaks way too much and the kids are not engaged. How do we get the learning deep inside of us? How do we take the teachings and make them a part of who we are? The best way we have found is through experiences. This is the first topic of two talking about creating experiences for our learners. Learning information can only take us so far. If we don't use it and experience it, it can be quickly forgotten. This would be the opposite of what we want learners to do with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Kevin and Julie give their thoughts on how to overcome "Imposter Syndrome" by looking at our callings with new eyes.
You are teaching a wonderful group and as soon as they get in the classroom they clam up. They won't talk. You ask great questions, you put people on the spot, but they still won't share with each other. It's not uncommon, right? We have all faced this before.
We all have different levels of understanding the restored gospel. Wherever we are on any given subject, we also behave at the level of understanding or below it. The difference between the two can be a bit of guilt. We know, but we don't do. So is our job as a teacher to raise the level of understanding or to help and inspire our behavior live up to our level of knowledge?
When you teach, do you try to cover all the content or do you only get to a few verses and go deep? If you did only cover a few verses, do you feel guilty for not teaching everything? Are you cheating them if you go deep?
