Inclusion continues to be a hot topic in education, and while schools have made tremendous strides in fostering inclusivity, several barriers remain, particularly league tables and Ofsted defining school intent. In our latest episode of the SENDcast, Dale speaks with Maria Dawes, CEO of the Schools Alliance for Excellence. Maria shares valuable insights on how schools can leverage self-evaluation to drive continuous improvement in inclusion, especially for underserved learners. What resonated with me was Maria's approach to shifting the focus from proving effectiveness to genuinely improving practices and being experts in your own setting. She emphasises that by fostering a culture of robust self-evaluation, school leaders can take ownership of their actions and create an environment where all students feel included and supported, regardless of their backgrounds or needs. Maria developed the Surrey Inclusion Framework to facilitate meaningful discussions and thorough self-assessments around inclusion. As she aptly states, “There are things that you can do that don't make you fundamentally more inclusive; inclusivity is a culture.” View all podcasts available or visit our SENDcast sessions shop!   About Maria Dawes Maria is the CEO of Schools Alliance for Excellence and STSN, a school-led company that provides school improvement, curriculum and leadership development for schools in Surrey and other local regions. She has a strong track record of working collaboratively and in partnership with a range of agencies to support schools to improve rapidly and sustain improvement.  Maria is passionate about a school-led system, believing bringing all schools, providers and partners together creates an educational landscape that is more than the sum of its parts.  She also believes strongly in equity of opportunity and inclusion. Using the method Kevin creates may be a great way to learn what makes up your class. We'd recommend that you use something similar and learn the ingredients of your class time. Self-Evaluation and Awareness: James emphasises the importance of self-evaluation and understanding one's subconscious drivers. He suggests that many of our actions are influenced by subconscious motivations, and recognising these can help in making more conscious decisions. This process involves looking in the mirror and understanding why certain mistakes were made, which can be challenging but ultimately rewarding.2. Managing Pressure and Stress: James discusses the distinction between pressure and stress, noting that unhealthy pressure can lead to stress. He advises finding ways to manage this pressure, such as engaging in activities that provide mental and physical relaxation, like golf or meditation. Understanding and using pressure to one's advantage, rather than letting it lead to stress, is crucial for maintaining well-being.3. I've made it a personal rule, when I'm offended, to chalk it up to people's inability to communicate effectively. It's proven to be useful and, typically, correct. But how can the activity we engage in more than anything else (with the exception of sleep) be something so many men are horribly deficient with? Internal Consistency and Self-Feedback in Large Language Models: A Survey

Large language models (LLMs) often exhibit deficient reasoning or generate hallucinations. To address these, studies prefixed with"Self-"such as Self-Consistency, Self-Improve, and Self-Refine have been initiated. They share a commonality: involving LLMs evaluating and updating themselves. Nonetheless, these efforts lack a unified perspective on summarization, as existing surveys predominantly focus on categorization. In this paper, we use a unified perspective of internal consistency, offering explanations for reasoning deficiencies and hallucinations. Internal consistency refers to the consistency in expressions among LLMs' latent, decoding, or response layers based on sampling methodologies. Then, we introduce an effective theoretical framework capable of mining internal consistency, named Self-Feedback. This framework consists of two modules: Self-Evaluation and Self-Update. The former captures internal consistency signals, while the latter leverages the signals to enhance either the model's response or the model itself. This framework has been employed in numerous studies. We systematically classify these studies by tasks and lines of work; summarize relevant evaluation methods and benchmarks; and delve into the concern,"Does Self-Feedback Really Work?"We also propose several critical viewpoints, including the"Hourglass Evolution of Internal Consistency","Consistency Is (Almost) Correctness"hypothesis, and"The Paradox of Latent and Explicit Reasoning". Meet Dr. Jason Novetsky - a sports psychology and mental toughness coach for numerous elite athletes. You may know him from his ties to the Chasing Scratch Podcast, but you may not know the breadth and depth of experience he has helping golfers and athletes alike overcome their own obstacles and achieve their personal championships. In this episode, you'll get a front-row seat to the topics and teachings he focuses on when working with some of the top golfers in the world. Specifically, you'll learn more about the importance of creating a golf identity and crafting a golf identity statement, as well as the value of cultivating a neutral mindset. You'll also discover the ultimate goal-setting blueprint, learn the importance of having both values and standards to achieve your goals, and so much more.  Get your pencils ready and start listening.  Use Hypnosis to Shoot Lower Scores: Are you curious to learn how hypnosis can help you shoot lower scores? More About Dr. Novetsky Dr. Novetsky is the sport psychology and mental toughness coach for numerous collegiate, high school, and club-level teams in various sports across Michigan and the United States. He coaches numerous individual professional, collegiate, and youth athletes in his Birmingham, MI office and virtually to help them achieve their personal championships. Learn more about and work with him here. Key Takeaways: Having a strong set of standards and values helps athletes live and play in the present with a neutral mindset in the face of pressure and adversity. Emotional resilience is fostered by thinking more neutrally, being curious, thinking tactically, and focusing on the smartest next move. Identity statements are short sentences or paragraphs that athletes read daily to align their behavior and choices with the person they want to become. Patience is a common challenge for athletes, especially in a society that values instant gratification. It is important to focus on the process and evaluate oneself based on effort, attitude, preparation, and discipline. Fear of success can stem from the expectations of others and the pressure to consistently perform at a high level. Setting new goals and focusing on growth can help alleviate this fear. A growth mindset is crucial for athletes to continue improving. It involves being open to growth, embracing challenges, and learning from setbacks. Detaching one's identity from their score on the golf course is essential for maintaining a healthy mindset.  Developing a mental workout routine away from the course can greatly improve performance.  Self-evaluation is an important tool for bouncing back from poor performances.  It is important for golfers to separate their golf identity from their personal identity. They should remember that golf is just one aspect of their life and not let their performance on the course define their self-worth. Key Quotes: "Having a strong set of standards and values that you always fall back on helps you to live and play in the present with a neutral mindset in the face of pressure and adversity." "We need to think more neutrally, be curious, think tactically, think effectively, think productively." "Your behavior or your choices or the way you speak to yourself consistent with the person you want to be?" "What are the ingredients and recipe you need to make that plate happen?" Like most companies, mine does an annual performance review. And part of that process includes a self-evaluation. I've done this exercise many times before and find it difficult. Summary Eric Andris, host of All Things Dad podcast, shares his journey of becoming a dad and the motivation behind his platform. He discusses the lack of resources and support for new dads and the importance of vulnerability and breaking generational curses. Jey and Eric also talk about the challenges of transitioning from 0 to 1 child and from 1 to 2 children, and the joy and growth that comes with raising multiple kids. The conversation explores the experiences of being a dad to multiple children and the challenges and joys that come with it. The speakers discuss the differences in parenting their first and second child, highlighting the intelligence and quick thinking of the second child. They also touch on the importance of balancing work and mental health as a dad, emphasizing the need to be present with family and prioritize self-care. The concept of choice theory is introduced, emphasizing the importance of making intentional choices to prioritize relationships and fill one's own cup. The conversation concludes with a discussion about the June app and where to find more information about the All Things Dad podcast. Takeaways There is a lack of resources and support for new dads, and it can be challenging to find information and guidance specifically tailored to fathers. Vulnerability is key in overcoming fear and breaking generational curses. Men need to be willing to seek help and support, and to be open and honest about their struggles and emotions. Transitioning from 0 to 1 child and from 1 to 2 children comes with its own set of challenges, but each phase of parenting brings unique joys and growth opportunities. Raising multiple children allows for the development of different dynamics within the family and provides children with the opportunity to balance each other out and learn from one another. Every child is a unique experience, and parenting multiple children allows for growth and learning as a dad. Balancing work and mental health is crucial for being present and engaged with family. Prioritizing relationships, including the relationship with a spouse, is essential for a healthy family dynamic. Making intentional choices and prioritizing self-care are key to filling one's own cup and being able to pour into others. The June app can be a helpful tool for establishing routines and habits for children. The All Things Dad podcast provides valuable insights and resources for dads.
