In this episode of our continuing series on Book of Mormon authorship theories, Patrick lays the groundwork for understanding how the Book or Mormon is constructed, which is an essential part of considering the Book of Mormon authorship theories. In this episode we consider Rob Terry's work. Data Scientist Rob Terry utilized the BYU Book of Mormon text database to deconstruct the structure of the Book of Mormon. He demonstrates in this Wheat and Tares article https://wheatandtares.org/2020/04/23/book-of-mormon-wordprint-studies-in-2020/ how the Book of Mormon has 3 discrete “voices”. First, the Narrator Voice. This voice contains many attributes that are consistent across the book, regardless of whether the speaker is Mormon, Zeniff, or Helaman. Next, the Sermon Voice is interspersed in the narrative and contains unique attributes across the book, whether in the voice of Alma, Samuel the Lamanite, or Amulek. Finally, in the second half of the book, there is a Late Voice which muddies the clear switching between Narrator and Sermon Voices we see in the first half of the book and introduces a new set of attributes not seen in the other 2 Voices. Terry illustrates the Voices in many graphs to help the audience visualize how the book is constructed. The 3-Voice Framework must be accounted for by any Book of Mormon authorship theory and complicates the notion that the book could have been dictated without an underlying text. Finally, in the episode, we briefly show how the framework helps explain the Book of Mormon wordprint study results. Send us Fan MailPart three of our Moral Agency discussion. Chaos doesn't break most people all at once. Drift does. One skipped prayer turns into a week, one “I'll handle it” turns into relying on willpower, and suddenly the old patterns are back. We apply a framework to spiritual growth and moral agency, aiming for the kind of discipleship Helaman describes as “firm, steadfast, immovable.”We dig into why real progress can still collapse: winning battles without building support systems. From there we walk through three foundations for an unshakable life: identity (who we truly believe we are), decisions we make once instead of endlessly renegotiating, and the environment that either reinforces righteousness or quietly fights it. We get practical about removing triggers, setting boundaries, and designing the life we actually want to live, not just the life we hope we'll choose when temptation shows up.To make it actionable, we share a clear daily checklist (morning prayer anchor, scripture immersion, physical discipline, service, midday reset, evening debrief, nightly surrender) and a weekly system (sacramental reset, deep study, environmental audit, goal realignment). We also talk about why none of this works in isolation, and why the guiding influence of the Holy Ghost is essential for spiritual survival and steady faith in Jesus Christ when the storms still come.If you want stronger spiritual discipline, better habits, and a more resilient moral agency, listen now, then subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review so more people can build on rock.Support the showYou can reach me anytime at email: tandrewsen.monat@gmail.comInstagram @toddtalks_ig
This episode is part 32 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers chapters 59-63 of the book of Alma. Captain Moroni wrote to Pahoran, judge of Zarahemla to accuse him of neglecting his duties. Pahoran wrote back to explain that he's been backed into a corner and the king-men faction took over the government. The new king of Zarahemla made a deal with the king of the Lamanites to let them take over everything outside Zarahemla.Moroni came to Pahoran's aid and helped him settle the civil problem. He could then get proper supplies and soldiers for the Nephite armies to reclaim captured cities. Eventually, the Nephites had a period of peace again. Some of the heroes retired and passed away. Helaman's son Helaman, Jr. ultimately received the brass plates. Some Nephites from Zarahemla moved north and started a shipping industry, and we don't know yet where those ships went.Further research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: Alma [chapters 59, 60, 61, 62, 63]Have questions for Truthspresso? Captain Moroni is determined to retake fortified Nephite cities that the Lamanites captured. The Nephites managed to retake several cities through various military strategies. In part 14 of this continuing series, Phil teaches that the measure of faith is shown by what it accomplishes, and that faith, hope, and desire work together in a divine cycle. Drawing from Moroni 7 and Moroni 10, Phil explains that belief and trust in Jesus Christ generate hope, and hope gives rise to stronger faith. A sincere heart and real intent, meaning we are willing to accept whatever answer the Lord gives will create the desire that leads to the exercise of powerful faith. Through this process, and by the power of the Holy Ghost, Father reveals truth and corrects our conclusions as we willingly align our will with Him. Phil teaches that hope through the Atonement is only possible when we offer the sacrifice of a broken heart and contrite spirit (Moroni 7). Examples from scripture show how humility transforms weakness into strength (Ether 12), including Enoch, who received the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, overcame his weakness in speech, and exercised a greater faith seeing through the veil with an “eye of faith” (Moses 6; Ether 12:19). Phil also explains the pattern of receiving higher priesthood authority, noting the First and Second Orders of the Melchizedek Priesthood bestowed upon prophets such as Enoch, Moses, and Nephi by the voice of the Father (Moses 6, Moses 1 & 3 Nephi 11). Phil highlights that throughout scripture; Helaman 5, Alma 14, 3 Nephi 19, Acts 2, disciples of Christ exercise exceedingly strong faith in Jesus Christ, resulting in the reception of the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, miracles, and other transformative spiritual experiences. He reminds us that revelation is never casual; it requires obedience, sacrifice, and preparation. Miracles have not ceased (Moroni 7:36–39), and the same power held by ancient servants of God is available to all who exercise great faith, hope, and trust in Christ. Phil concludes that the Lord continues to call “other servants” (JST Matthew 21; D&C 101, 112, 103), and that Joseph Smith stands as the prophesied servant raised up in the last days. The path remains the same: to seek Christ by revelation, exercise mighty faith, receive the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, and press forward keeping all of Christ's commandments until we enter the rest of the Lord. Come and learn the Doctrine of Christ. TheRedemptionOfZion.org

He passes down the brass plates, the Urim and Thummim, and the compass ball to his son Helaman. He tells his son Shiblon to keep up the faith and avoid temptations. I recently asked myself, "Do I really know how to access the power God makes available to covenant keepers?" Pres. Nelson expressed the need for this knowledge but I don't think I ever let it sink in. Then I had an experience that left me so desperate for help and healing that my only option was to access God's promised power in my life. It is a bit vulnerable for me to share but the Spirit urged me on. I truly hope you will gain insights that will help you experience healing you never thought possible because that is exactly what happened to me. Ever heard of the Shakers? No, not the salt kind—the dancing, celibate, super-devoted religious group from the 1800s. This week on Go & Do, Candis Shupe dives into Doctrine & Covenants 49–50 to explore their beliefs, the questions early Saints had about them, and what we can learn from it all today. In this episode, you'll learn: ❓ Why asking gospel questions—and taking them to the Lord—is the fail-proof way to find truth.
We conclude our look at the book of Helaman as a pattern of our day.
As we continue to look at the book of Helaman as a pattern of our day, we examine better ways to navagate the pride cycle.
If the book of Helaman is a pattern of our day, it is a warning of the dangers of pride in our day.
Both the Jaredits and Nephites were destroyed by secret combinations. Both Mormon and Moroni speak of secret combinations in our day. Modern revelation speaks of a very specific secret combination that has shown to have a devastating impact on those of us living in the latter-days.
