Section 20 - Historical Background: Following the first vision to the young boy Joseph Smith, God gradually proceeded to work towards the establishment of his church. The angel Moroni was sent to Joseph, then to the hidden gold plates to be translated and published as the Book of Mormon; the Aaronic Priesthood was restored followed by the Melchizedek priesthood. This section lays the foundation for the setting up of the governing laws of the Kingdom of God in these latter days. Recap: The precise day is given when the organization of the church is to occur; the names of the first 2 elders are announced; duties of the members of the church and of the quorums of the priesthood; specific wording of the baptismal and sacrament prayers are given. Section 21 - Historical Background: In fulfillment of God's commandment (see section 20), on April 6, 1830, the leaders of the church met together at the home of Peter Whitmer Sr to organize and establish the church in accordance to the laws of the nation. Six men were required to sign the corporate papers to give the church official status in the state of New York. The log cabin was crowded with families and friends who all raised their hands in approval of Joseph Smith as the first Elder of the Church and Oliver Cowdery as the second, and both as presiding officers. After these formalities were completed and the papers signed, the people traveled 6 miles to Seneca Lake. Those who desired to become members of the church were baptized. After returning to the Whitmer home in Fayette, this revelation was received. Recap: Records need to be maintained in the church; Joseph Smith will be called a seer, translator, prophet, apostle and elder of the church. Members of the church should look to the prophet for direction as if given by the Lord Himself; Oliver Cowdery to serve under Joseph to preach the gospel to the world. Section 22 - Historical Background: Previous to the official organization of the church, people had been baptized for the remission of sins. Now it was required to be baptized again, this time as members of God's church. Some people objected to needing baptism again. To resolve the confusion, Joseph received this revelation. Recap: All unauthorized covenants, including baptism, are null and void and “availeth him nothing” but must be done as authorized by God. The very reason for the restoration of the Gospel was to replace the “dead works” and unauthorized and obsolete ordinances of the past.

Send us a textFrom Come Follow Me:        "Most people around the world have probably never heard of Harmony, Pennsylvania. The Lord often chooses humble places for the most significant events in His kingdom. In a wooded area near Harmony on May 15, 1829, John the Baptist appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. He placed his hands on their heads and conferred the Aaronic Priesthood upon them, calling them “my fellow servants” (Doctrine and Covenants 13:1).        John the Baptist was the trusted servant of God who baptized the Savior and prepared the way for His coming (see Matthew 3:1–6, 13–17). To these two young men in their twenties, it must have been humbling, perhaps even overwhelming, to be called John's fellow servants. At the time, Joseph and Oliver were relatively unknown, much as Harmony was. But service in God's work has always been about how we serve, not about who notices. However small or unseen your contribution may seem at times, you too are a fellow servant in the Lord's “great and marvelous work” (Doctrine and Covenants 14:1)."Support the Show!www.patreon.com/SaintsintheSouth(The thoughts, ideas, and beliefs we express on this channel do not officially represent The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  For additional information or official statements, please visit the website below.  The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/?lang=eng)#biblestudy #religion #churchofJesusChrist #ldspodcast #christianpodcast #missionary #lds #biblestories #christ #faith #faithinchrist #scriptures #bookofmormon #doctrineandcovenants #pearlofgreatprice #temples #houseofthelord #mormon #mormonbeliefs #christiansandmormons #god #endure #ironrod #faithineveryfootstep #prophets #followtheprophet #commandments #love #service #charity #keepstriving #keeponstriving #ProLDS #gospelgrowthandgoodtimes #become #newtestamentSupport the show

Come Follow MeCome Follow Me For Kids“Upon You My Fellow Servants”Doctrine and Covenants 12–17; Joseph Smith—History 1:66–75The Aaronic Priesthood Is Restored John the Baptist visits Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry and restores the priesthood on earth. This week we are going to learn that the keys of the priesthood are a super important a part of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Priesthood keys are given to act in God's name, by his power and authority. For example God has given us keys to baptize and bless the sacrament Because these keys were restored to God's church, we enjoy many blessings made through covenants that bring us closer to Jesus Christ.Joseph and Oliver worked hard translating the gold plates into english for many days. They came to the part of the Book of Mormon where Jesus Christ appeared to the Nephites. They read that Jesus gave Nephi the priesthood power and authority to baptize. Joseph and Oliver knew that the authority to baptize was not on the earth in their day.Joseph and Oliver wanted to know more about the authority to baptize, could anyone do it? How did it work? They walked to the trees near Joseph's house. They prayed and asked God about the authority to baptize in Christ's name. While they were praying, an angel descended from heaven in a cloud of light. The angel was John the Baptist, John the Baptist had the Aaronic Priesthood—God's authorityto baptize. Jesus was baptized to set anexample for us, and John was the person that baptized Jesus! Now as an angel, John the Baptist put his hands on Joseph and Oliver's heads and said, "Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins." The power and authority of the Aaronic Priesthood was restored to the earth! Why did an angel need to come and give it to them? Because no one on earth had that power. John the Baptist then told Joseph and Oliver they should baptize each other, so they wentto the River and and were baptized. They both felt the power of the Holy Ghost and after this, understanding the scriptures was way easier! And now, because the priesthood authority is back on the earth, we can be baptized like Jesus was, repent from bad choices, and receive the power of the Holy Ghost! Section 12 - Historical Background: Joseph Knight, a successful farmer living in Fayette, New York, was a loyal friend and former employer of Joseph Smith. Knowing Joseph Smith was translating the gold plates while in Harmony, Pennsylvania, Knight brought down a wagon of supplies to help Joseph and Emma. While there, he asked for a personal revelation, probably through the Urim and Thummim. Recap: The Lord confirms His divinity. Those who labor in His vineyard will be blessed and find salvation. Joseph Knight is counselled to be humble, loving, faithful and charitable.  Section 13 – Historical Background: While translating the plates, Joseph and Oliver were impressed with the subject of baptism which was frequently discussed in the record. Wondering what to do about their own baptism, they asked upon the Lord. As a result, a Heavenly manifestation opened before them as John the Baptist appeared and conferred the Aaronic priesthood upon Joseph and Oliver. Having this new authority, Joseph and Oliver baptized one another. Recap: John the Baptist confers the Aaronic Priesthood upon Joseph and Oliver, giving them authority to baptize into Christ's church. Sections 14-16 – Historical Background: After receiving the Melchizedek Priesthood from Peter, James and John, believed to have occurred in early June, 1829, the persecution in Harmony became severe. Joseph was instructed by the Lord to flee with Emma to Fayette, New York where the Whitmer family offered to share their small and modest home with them. Three of the Whitmer sons, David, John and Peter Jr, asked for personal revelations from Joseph. Recap: The Lord declares the divinity of these blessings, coming from God and not from Joseph. Counsel given to labor in the vineyard, keep God's commandments and preach repentance. All were asked to endure to the end. Unfortunately, Peter was the only one who remained loyal to the Lord. Section 17 – Historical Background: During the translation of the plates, it was learned that the Lord would establish the truthfulness of the record by three witnesses (see 2 Nephi 27:12 and Ether 5:4). Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer and Martin Harris all desired to be given the privilege of seeing the Gold Plates. Joseph inquired of the Lord concerning this, through the Urim and Thummim. Recap: Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer and Martin Harris are promised that if they have adequate faith, they will be allowed to not only see the Gold Plates, but also the breastplate, the sword of Laban, the Urim and Thummim, and the Liahona. They are commanded to use this witness to testify to the world of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and its translation by the gift and power of God.

Just then, at early dawn, Peter, James and John appeared and conferred the Melchizedek Priesthood on Joseph and Oliver

THE EXCOMMUNICATION OF JESUS CHRIST AND HIS BELIEVERS, Part 1 of Chapter 12 of The Church and The Priesthood    Pages 196 to 214   When Jacob gathered his 12 sons together to give them their patriarchal blessings, he prophesied what would happen to their descendants down to the last days. In the blessing for Judah and his tribe, he declared, “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh (the Savior) come; . . . (Gen. 49:10)   To Moses was given the task of giving the Priesthood (sceptre) and its higher laws, but the people did not qualify. So Moses established a church with the Aaronic Priesthood and its lesser laws. The Jews (descendants of Judah) maintained both the Priesthood, its principles, ordinances and church down to the time that the Savior (Shiloh) came to earth.   Jesus was born and raised in this church and soon became a full-fledged Rabbi with all their rights and privileges of teaching the Gospel. Jesus, however, was blessed with such wisdom and understanding that even at age 12 He confounded the wisest of the Pharisees on Priesthood issues.   When He began to teach the laws of the higher Priesthood, he was rejected and “cast out” of the synagogues. This story of Christ's rejection is told in the King James version of the Bible, but it is told better in some of the other versions.

Now we understand and should try to relate to the First-Century audience as the author of the letter makes the case for Messiah Yeshua's place in the “big picture” and in the lives of the individuals as their standard of lifestyle was about to go away–the destruction of the Temple by the Romans and the suspension of the Aaronic/Levitical priesthood. With that said we now go into chapter five where the author explains the differences between the Aaronic/Levitical priesthood and the Melchizedekian priesthood. Then from chapter five Rabbi Steve touches on chapter six where we see a passage that has perplexed many, verses 4 through 6, specifically the word ‘impossible'. Does the passage tell us that some are doomed to destruction with no return? If you've ever been told that the Book of Hebrews is just too hard to understand, then you definitely should watch this episode. Rabbi Berkson breaks down verse by verse, passage by passage, passionately relating the revealed meanings so that you understand and benefit. Questions: • If Messiah Yeshua takes on the role of High Priest (Heb 3:1) and does not qualify for the Aaronic - Priesthood, how can He be in that role? • What “perfected” Messiah Yeshua? This faith-refreshing conversation on the For All The Saints podcast is all about the restoration of the Aaronic Priestood. Steven J. Lund currently serves as the Young Men General President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he has served in this role since 2020. I wanted to speak to President Lund on the week that commemorates the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood (May 15, 1829) and catch up on the function and state of the Aaronic Priesthood today, as well as those who traditionally hold it - young men. Who better to speak to than the President of the global program. Some highlights from this episode include what it's really like to speak at General Conference, the experience of attending the first FSY in Pakistan, and how adults can best support youth in the Gospel.--Follow For All The Saints on social media for updates and inspiring content:www.instagram.com/forallthesaintspodhttps://www.facebook.com/forallthesaintspod/For All The Saints episodes are released every Monday on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVDUQg_qZIU&list=UULFFf7vzrJ2LNWmp1Kl-c6K9Qhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3j64txm9qbGVVZOM48P4HS?si=bb31d048e05141f2https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/for-all-the-saints/id1703815271If you have feedback or any suggestions for topics or guests, connect with Ben & Sean via hello@forallthesaints.org or DM on InstagramConversations to Refresh Your Faith. For All The Saints podcast was established in 2023 by Ben Hancock to express his passion and desire for more dialogue around faith, religious belief, and believers' perspectives on the topics of our day. Jesus is a better hope than the Old Testament law and priesthood could give. Why? Because the law gave a priesthood that brought imperfection, impermanence, and was impotent. But Jesus brings perfection, permanence and power.  So in and by Jesus we can truly draw near to God.

John Walters grew up in Utah after moving there when he was eight years old. His parents are converts and one of his earliest memories is being sealed as a family when he was six years old. John joined the Marines and served for six years, including two one-year-long deployments. He served a mission in Peru and earned a BA in Psychology and a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Utah. John now lives in Houston, Texas, where he works as a sales leader for a large oil and gas company. His greatest joys come from his wife Angela and their four kids. John has served in many callings, including as a Primary teacher, in a Young Men presidency, in several elders quorum presidencies, as a high councilor, and currently as bishop. The youth program is a preparatory phase. 7:00 What is the Aaronic Priesthood actually preparing you for? 9:50 Having a mindset and vision of how you are preparing the youth for their future. John shares his mindset and vision for the youth in his ward and talks about the importance of articulating the vision. 12:00 John shares a personal experience of working with a young man that was struggling. Instead of focusing on getting him to go on a mission, he focused on him having special experiences with Jesus Christ. 16:00 There are some common misunderstandings with the youth program. What does it really mean to let them lead? 20:20 An integrative approach to the youth program. The four intentional questions: Know - What do we want them to know by the time they leave the youth program? Do - What do we want them to be able to do or skills do we want them to have? Be - What kind of person should they be? Experiences - What kind of experiences do we want them to have had by the time they graduate the youth program? 21:55 Some examples of applying the four intentional questions 24:55 As youth leaders in the ward you can build as much or little structure into the youth program as you need. Use the four intentional questions to help cover the touch points that you have. 27:00 John shares some examples of using the four intentional questions in his ward. One of the skills they have identified the youth needed was to be able to interact and talk with other people appropriately. They plan activities and conferences to focus on this need. They plan with intentionality. 29:50 Customizing the youth program especially for the youth in your ward. You can change things up. John's young women didn't do a traditional five-day camp because they couldn't find a week where everyone could be there. They broke it up into five one-day camps. 34:30 Leadership is a journey and collaborative effort. It takes time to gain some traction in your new calling. 37:15 Meetings between the bishopric and the young women's presidency. John explains what they discuss and focus on in their meetings. 38:40 How do you focus on the youth and not get caught up with other things in the ward? 41:00 John shares his final thoughts on how leadership has changed him and made him a better follower of Jesus Christ.
