The Land of 10000 Downloads – S2E14   Is the world on fire right now?  It seems like everything is coming apart at the seams.  After a busy couple weeks, I was feeling pretty down this morning.  As I opened my computer, I saw something that REALLY brightened my day, and I have to share some great news with you.  This is Season 2, Episode 14, and in this episode we are celebrating 10000 downloads of the Small Scale Life Podcast!  It is a great way to kick off the weekend, and it is a great accomplishment. Special Thanks I have to thank so many great guests I have had over the past year and a half including Greg Burns, Drew Sample, Kevin Michael Geary, Scott Herbert, Todd Ehrhardt, Charles Hugh Smith, Khaled Majouji (The Plant Charmer), Travis Swanson, Bren Haas and of course my good friend Jay Dolan.  I would also like to thank Austin Quinn at Vlog Vibes for creating some great tunes for the podcast.  These folks are all part of this story and the development and growth of the podcast. Most of all, I have to thank all of you for listening and encouraging me to keep going.  There are times when you are recording these episodes where you wonder if anyone is listening, if this is making any sense or if any of it matters.  Looking at the analytics, answering questions and interacting with you, I know it is making a difference.  As long as we are making a difference in someone’s life, we will keep going. Learning, Doing, Growing – S2E8 April is off and running, and we are already approaching the middle of the month!  Last week was pretty busy, and I did not post a podcast.  However, I was busy working on updating the site and streamlining the user experience!  I was inspired by a book by author, podcaster and blogger Ravi Jayagopal.  He wrote an e-book called Confessions of a Wannabe PodcaSTAR, and after reading his book, I found that I could improve the site and podcast.  It is learning, doing and growing in action!  You should notice those changes right away. Preventing Damping Off Disease – S2E7 There is nothing like the excitement of seeing your tender seedlings popping through the soil in your indoor garden area!  You immediately have visions of future harvest from these beautiful plants.  This will be the best year ever in the garden!  Then, something starts to happen: fuzzy mold appears on the soil surface, the stems become thin and weak, and the seedlings wilt and die.  You add more water to the tender seedlings because they might be drying out.  Instead, this seems to have the opposite effect: more seedlings are wilting!  Soon, the entire tray looks horrible and is a complete loss.  This, my friends, happened to me last year!  It is most likely damping off disease, and if you garden indoors, you eventually will have to deal with it.  In this episode of the Small Scale Life Podcast, I discuss 9 steps for Preventing Damping Off Disease. Podcast Topics Damping Off Disease attacking a tomato seedling in 2016   In this podcast, I discuss the following tips for Preventing Damping Off Disease: Plant seeds in containers, and then place the containers in trays Water the tray, not directly on the soil (bottom up, not top down) Sterilize containers, tools and trays for 30 minutes before reusing them Use warm water to water your seedlings Do not overwater! Only add enough water to fill 1/4″ to 1/3″ high in the tray Use a heating pad to start seedlings Use good draining potting mix. Do not use your garden soil or compost! Do not fertilize your seedlings Provide 12 to 16 hours of light from your grow lights. BONUS TIP: keep the lights 1-2″ from the top of your seedlings when they first germinate  I finish the podcast by giving you what I think are the most critical steps to Preventing Damping Off Disease. Wells hopes that he can have everyone convince Jesse to not use her powers. Elsewhere, foster child Frankie Kane develops metahuman magnetic powers that manifest as an alternate personality, Magenta, who attacks her abusive foster father. Barry learns that Magenta got her powers from Dr. Alchemy, while Wally deals with the fact that he did not get powers alongside Jesse during the explosion. Magenta goes to the Central City Hospital to kill her foster father by dropping an oil tanker on the building. Barry creates a vortex to hold the tanker in place, but he cannot confront Magenta while doing so. Wells, finally trusting his daughter, sends Jesse to help. She takes over the vortex while Barry talks Frankie into gaining control over Magenta. Frankie reveals that Alchemy came to her in dreams of another life, which concerns Wally as he had similar dreams. Wells tells Jesse that he will support her decision and presents her with her own costume. Joe later shows Barry and Julian a video of Clariss being killed in his cell by an unseen force. Podcast: Play in new window | Download Synopsis: Barry learns of several changes to the restored timeline: Iris has not forgiven Joe for not telling her that her mother was alive, Cisco is angry with him for not altering the timeline to save his brother Dante from a drunk driver, and he has a new CSI partner, Julian Albert, who does not like or trust him. Barry decides to travel back again to fix the damage, but he is intercepted in 1998 by Jay Garrick. Jay tells Barry that the timeline never resets exactly and he has to learn to live with his mistakes. Meanwhile, Clariss has visions of “Flashpoint” and locates the person responsible, Alchemy, who restores Clariss’ powers and full “Flashpoint” memories. Barry tells the team about the timeline’s alterations before confronting Clariss at an abandoned warehouse. Alchemy is there as well, saying that he is “preparing this world” for a future event. Cisco arrives and helps Barry defeat Clariss, who is then incarcerated in Iron Heights. The team determines that Alchemy is creating other metahumans from “Flashpoint” whom they need to track down. Cisco and Barry become reconciled, as do Iris and Joe. Caitlin is secretly revealed to have gained cryokinetic powers. Barry and Iris officially start a romantic relationship, and Clariss is attacked in his cell. In the new timeline, which Eobard dubs “Flashpoint“, both of Barry’s parents are alive, Joe has a poor relationship with his kids and chronically in trouble at work, Cisco is a billionaire tech-magnate, and Caitlin is a pediatric ophthalmologist. There is also a new Flash in Central City called Kid Flash struggling with his own nemesis Edward Clariss, known as “The Rival“. Barry begins losing his memories of the original timeline, which Eobard reveals is the result of the new timeline becoming permanent. After discovering Kid Flash is Wally, Barry teams up with Wally and stops Edward, but not before Wally is critically injured. Realizing that the new timeline is worse for those closest to him, Barry releases Eobard and lets him return to the past to kill Nora and reset the timeline. Back in the present, Barry learns that the timeline did not reset exactly, and Joe and Iris have not spoken to each other in years. Edward is confronted by a mysterious voice giving him the message “Alchemy“. Wells realizes that Zoom stole a magnatar from Mercury Labs that will allow him to destroy every world in the multiverse if he and Barry can create enough energy from their race to power the device. When Barry refuses to back out, the team locks him in a containment cell for his own protection. The team develops their own successful plan to send Zoom back to Earth-2, but Joe is pulled in with him. On Earth-2, Zoom reveals to Joe that the man in the iron mask is the real Jay Garrick. Wally releases Barry to rescue Joe. Barry agrees to race Zoom if he returns Joe unharmed. As Barry and Zoom race, the magnatar begins to charge. However, Barry creates a time remnant of himself, who gives his life to stop the magnatar, while Barry takes out Zoom. Defeated, Zoom is then taken away by the Time Wraiths. The true Jay Garrick is revealed to be Henry’s doppelganger, which distresses Barry. Wells and Jesse return with Jay to Earth-2. Still feeling broken and defeated, Barry travels back in time and stops Reverse-Flash from killing his mother. Meanwhile, Cisco has a vibe of Barry and realizes that he is still alive. Barry wakes up in his own bedroom and finds “Joe” downstairs. “Joe” explains what he really is: a physical manifestation of the Speed Force. “Joe” informs Barry that he cannot leave unless he catches a mysterious moving figure. Cisco and Wells create a path into the Speed Force so Barry can escape, but Barry chooses to remain so he can earn his powers back. As he pursues the figure, other Speed Force entities challenge Barry on what it means to be a hero, and how he cannot become the Flash again until he finally accepts his mother’s death. Barry shares a moment with his “mother”, which allows him to finally catch the moving figure—himself. His powers restored, and with help from Cisco and Iris, Barry returns to S.T.A.R. Labs to save the team from the reanimated corpse of Tony Woodward. Afterwards, Barry uses speed force energy to bring Jesse out of her coma. Across town, Zoom has assembled a metahuman army, which he plans to unleash on Central City. Wells again proposes recreating the particle accelerator explosion. Barry goes to his father, Henry, for advice, who returns with him back to Central City. Henry argues with Wells over his procedure for returning Barry’s powers, concerned for his son’s safety. Zoom and Caitlin arrive back on Earth-1, with Zoom declaring the city under his control. The Earth-2 version of Dante Ramon, “Rupture”, arrives on Earth-1 looking to kill Cisco for killing his Earth-2 brother. Zoom sends Rupture after the police to send the city a message. Barry and the police stop Rupture, but Zoom arrives and kills the officers himself, and Rupture for failing. He then publicly announces the Flash’s disappearance. Realizing that he cannot stop Zoom without his powers, Barry agrees to Wells’ plan. During the process, Barry is seemingly vaporized, while Jesse and Wally are caught in the blast. Shortly after finding her, Wells is attacked and kidnapped by Griffin Grey, who demands that Wells find a cure for his metahuman abilities. Grey has superhuman strength, but he is also aging rapidly. Barry realizes that when Grey uses his super strength he accelerates the aging process. Barry, Joe, and Cisco manipulate Grey into using more of his powers until he ages into a weak, old man before reverting back to his 18-year-old self. To fight Zoom, Wells offers to recreate the events that Barry gave his speed. On Earth-2, Hunter reveals that he kidnapped Caitlin because he is in love with her. Caitlin meets her doppelganger Killer Frost, who was captured by Zoom. Killer Frost convinces Caitlin to help her escape and then attempts to kill her. Zoom arrives and kills Killer Frost, and then warns Caitlin not to free the man in the iron mask. Later, Zoom decides to conquer the other Earths in the multiverse, and brings Caitlin with him back to Earth-1. In present day, Barry tests the tachyon accelerator and is able to enhance his speed four times greater than normal. Barry decides to re-open a breach back to Earth-2, and he believes that Cisco’s powers are the key to opening the portals. Meanwhile, Wells recounts how the particle accelerator explosion on his Earth created Zoom, an adult Zolomon, a convicted serial killer who was receiving electroconvulsive therapy during the explosion. Cisco opens a breach and Zoom immediately comes through, chasing Barry back to S.T.A.R. Labs. There, Barry uses images of Zoom’s parents as a distraction to trap him, but Zoom manages to escape. Zoom kidnaps Wally and demands Barry’s speed in exchange for Wally’s life. Barry agrees, so Wells siphons all of his speed force and leaving Barry human. Zoom injects the speed force, and with his enhanced speed he kidnaps Caitlin before escaping. However, after a Time Wraith follows Barry to the past, Wells deduces Barry’s deception and attempts to kill him. Barry is able to convince Wells that his plan succeeds in the future, but in order to maintain it he must help Barry become faster. The wraith comes to the lab, where Caitlin and Cisco are forced to accept help from a captured Hartley to deter the wraith. Afterward, the Barry from the current time arrives, forcing an explanation of the time-travel event. Wells provides the future Barry with the information needed to solve the formula so that he can return to his time. Before he leaves, Barry gives Caitlin and Cisco instructions to find a way to stop the wraith. As Barry prepares to make the jump through time, the wraith arrives, which forces the past timeline’s Barry to intervene so his future self can return. Back in his time, Barry is confronted by the wraith again, but Hartley arrives with his sonic gauntlets and defeats the wraith. However, they hit a roadblock and decide to go out to have fun and decompress. While they are at a club, another speedster shows up and robs everyone before escaping. A Mercury Labs employee, Eliza Harmon, turns out to be the speedster, who developed Velocity-9 from samples Caitlin gave her to help with Jay’s illness. Operating under the name “Trajectory”, she invades S.T.A.R. Labs, imprisons Barry, and demands more V-9. After she threatens Jesse’s life, Dr. Wells and Caitlin make more of the drug for Eliza, who then speeds off to wreak havoc on the city. Barry tracks her down and tries to talk Eliza into giving up. She refuses and injects more V-9 into her system before speeding off. Barry watches as Eliza’s speed becomes so intense that her lightning turns blue and she disintegrates. Meanwhile, Jesse decides to leave the city to experience the world on her own. Based on what Barry saw from the overuse of V-9, the similarities between Zoom’s speed and Jay’s sickness, and Cisco’s “vibe”, the team concludes that Jay is Zoom. Synopsis: Wells, Cisco, and Barry agree not to discuss what happened on Earth-2 for fear of repercussions. While everyone tries to move on, the humanoid shark-monster that Wells stopped, known as “King Shark”, escapes A.R.G.U.S. custody and heads for Central City to kill the Flash. John Diggle and Lyla Michaels arrive to warn Barry, which prompts him to look for King Shark and put a stop to him for good. Barry teams up with Diggle, Lyla, and the rest of A.R.G.U.S. to track King Shark, but he shows up at Barry’s home looking for the Flash, tracking Barry’s electrical field. A.R.G.U.S. arrives and forces King Shark to retreat. The teams attempt to trick King Shark into a trap, but the bait does not work. Barry forces King Shark to chase him out on the water, and when he is far enough he creates an electrified, underwater cyclone that subdues King Shark and allows A.R.G.U.S. to imprison him again. Later, Barry vows to open a breach back to Earth-2 to stop Zoom. Back on Earth-2, it is revealed that Zoom’s real appearance looks exactly like Jay.
