Growers have long used deposits from ancient seas as a source of micronutrients- and over 50 years ago, Dr. Maynard Murray started researching the use of minerals- naturally dried and derived from mineral-rich seawater- as a source of micronutrients. Today on the podcast we talk with Chief Mineral Officer Michael Sileck about how Sea-90 Ocean Minerals continues the work of Dr. Murray today, through their naturally-dried, unprocessed and unrefined soil amendments. We talk about how the benefits of sea minerals were discovered and established, where SEA-90 is made in the original location in the Sea of Cortez identified by Dr. Murray, and how the natural drying process preserves the natural minerals and trace elements that can help feed soil bacteria, enzymes, and fungi, and ultimately your plants. Find out why SEA-90 is combined with organic humate, what micronutrients it provides, how to apply it and more! MustGrow Biologics Chief Operating Officer Colin Bletsky joined Steve Darling from Proactive to share significant news the company's Terrasante crop fertilizer and soil amendment technology has received USDA organic approval, marking a noteworthy achievement in the field of organic agricultural products. Terrasante has been granted organic certification from the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) and is now OMRI Listed in the generic material listings for NOP: Plant Extracts, Class: Crop Fertilizers and Soil Amendments. This recognition underscores the product's compliance with strict organic standards, including ingredient composition and adherence to manufacturing compliance standards required in organic production. Bletsky explained that the organic certification from OMRI presents a valuable opportunity for farmers to reduce their reliance on synthetic chemicals and fertilizers while meeting the growing market demand for organic biological products. It positions Terrasante as a trusted and approved solution for organic farming practices. Pending the final registration of product approval from U.S. state agencies, TerraSante will be marketed as OMRI listed for organic use, further expanding its reach and impact in the organic agriculture sector. MustGrow Biologics' development programs for soil amendment and biofertility will focus on enhancing soil and soil microbiome health, improving nutrient and water use efficiencies, and increasing plant yields. This development work is expected to initially progress in key states, including Washington, Idaho, Oregon, California, and Arizona, before expanding nationwide across the United States. In summary, MustGrow Biologics, under the leadership of Colin Bletsky, is making significant strides in the field of organic agriculture with the USDA organic approval of Terrasante. This recognition validates the product's effectiveness and aligns with the company's commitment to providing sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions for farmers seeking to optimize their agricultural practices and meet the growing demand for organic products. #proactiveinvestors #mustgrowbiologicscorp #tsxv #mgro #otcqb #mgrof #mustardseed #TerraAsante #USDAOrganicApproval #BioFertilizer #SustainableAgriculture #CropYields #SoilHealth #OrganicFarming #AgricultureInnovation #AgTech #PlantNutrition #HighValueCrops #OrganicGrowers #SoilAmendment #Agribusiness #FarmingSolutions #CropManagement #EnvironmentalSustainability #RegenerativeAgriculture #HealthySoil #FoodSecurity #FertilizerTechnology #MustardExtracts #CropProtection #USDAApproved #GreenTech #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Thomas Goreau works to protect the earth from climate change -- both onland and in the oceans, where he is trying to save coral reefs. Joanna Campe is director of Remineralize the Earth, an NGO promoting the use of rock dust soil amendments. Tom Vanacore owns a quarry that supplies rock dust to farmers. Goreau notes importance of mixing biochar with rock dust and aging the compound; otherwise it may make plants grow less. Almost all the nutritive elements in our food come from the minerals in rock and are being depleted by current farming techniques. But farmers are learning to remedy the problem now. For the video, audio podcast, transcript and public comments: https://tosavetheworld.ca/episode-542-remineralize-the-earth .
Gregory Dipple studies mine tailings, Peter Van Straaten is an agro-geologist who studies the application of minerals as fertilizers. Thomas Vanacore owns rock quarries and studies the application of rock dust. Here they discuss the present state of scientific knowledge about the benefits and potential risks of the dual-purpose application of rock dust and mine tailings to farmland. Dipple believes that the most serious gap in knowledge concerns the possible addition of greenhouse gas because of the otherwise appropriate application of such soil amendments. They consider ways of encouraging the government to support progress faster because of the urgency of the climate threat. For the video, audio podcast, transcript, and comments: https://tosavetheworld.ca/episode-535-rocks-mine-tailings-climate.
Brian von Herzen is director of the Climate Foundation, working on developing seaweed permaculture. David Demarey is a farmer and soil chemist. Thomas Vanacore owns a quarry and is an expert on farming with rock dust. They discuss the potential use of rock dust, biochar, and seaweed extract in a mixture to improve the fertility of soil while retaining the nutrients in it and preventing run-off to pollute waterways and oceans. Fortunately, such a mixture can attract and sequester large amounts of carbon from the atmosphere, becoming a major mechanism for climate restoration, while even improving the immune systems of animals and people who consume the food from such soil. I've said it before and I'll say it again: testing your soil is the best way to find out what is lacking in your garden as far as nutrients are concerned and the earlier you test it, the better. Testing your soil in the off-season before spring rolls around gives you an earlier start toward correcting any deficiencies. Fall and winter are the best times to amend your soil with organic components because they will have a chance to break down into the soil and incorporate themselves so they are ready to be absorbed by your plants come spring. But the plethora of amendments available to the home gardener these days can be overwhelming. How do you know what to add, when to add it, and how much? I'm going to spend this episode talking about some of the most popular and easily accessible amendments you can use on your soil right now to give you a better harvest next season and talk about how to determine how much of it to use, based on your own garden circumstances. When we hear the term “Soil Amendments,” the first thought that comes to mind may not be an easy fix in the front yard. However, in this podcast episode, engineers explain simply how not only are soil amendments easy to do in your yard, but they have huge impacts to helping mitigate flooding if that’s an issue for your neighborhood. City of Madison Engineering Division Public Information Officer Hannah Mohelnitzky hosts engineers Phil Gaebler and Jojo O’Brien as they explain how residents should learn about soil amending, especially if they’ve never heard about it. They explain what tools residents need (not many) and how soil amendments make a huge impact.

I'm hunting rabbits in my garden. This is the day before 420 and all celebrations have been moved online, a lot of different types of events happening. Concerts, ceremonies and smoke sesh are what I've heard. Strain of the Week: Bruce Banner - I liked it on many levels one of them is that I am a comic book fan, not a geek. OG Kush and Strawberry Diesel. The dominant flavor is sweet, with notes of citrus and a strong, pungent smell of fuel. It's a nice heady energetic high. It really helped me focus on whatever task I was doing. It was also easy to let go of stress and anxiety with it. 24% THC Sponsored by BudBuddy Social Media: I will watch at least one if not all of these movies on 420. I love living in the future. I think this is the right time for you to start that small business you've been thinking about. It's Easter Sunday today, no church, no Easter egg hunts, eggs are too precious. Strain of the Week: Nepal Kush - indica-dominant hybrid of Hindu Kush x Nepal IBL. This fast acting strain has a combination of fruity, spicy, sour, earthy and piney flavors and results in a strong body buzz accompanied by a serious case of couch lock. Nepal Kush is a potent indica-dominant strain that is comprised of 90% indica genetics Social Media: Charlotte Figi passed away at 13 from what seems to be complications of Covid19. She became one of the faces of the medicinal CBD when she was 5 years old, after it appeared that taking CBD eased the symptoms of her Dravet syndrome, a form of epilepsy. By age 5, Charlotte was having over 300 seizures a week, about one every 30 minutes. Charlotte was in a wheelchair and used a feeding tube because she could not swallow. So her mom, Ms.Figi began to research CBD and found a grower who agreed to grow the hemp needed to extract CBD oil for Charlotte. Her mom wasn't expecting it to work, but it did. Charlotte didn't have any seizures for seven days after starting the treatment and soon she started talking, making eye contact, walking, and eventually they removed her feeding tube. The seizures were reduced to about one a month. Report from the cannabis front line: -Univ. Show Notes: Welcome to Ep. 103. Later I'm going to talk about manure as a soil amendment. It's 420 all month, where is the celebration, and virtual sessions? I'm signed up to go to a few online events on that Monday. If you were a teenager in the late 80's, you remember “Columbia Record Club 12 tapes for 1 penny. Strain of the Week: Irene OG - a.k.a. “Irene Kush,” is a sativa dominant hybrid (60% sativa/40% indica) strain and is a powerful phenotype of what I call an heirloom strain, the OG Kush. It had this sweet peppery, like nutmeg taste and gassy at the end. This bud had a 22% THC level but it was a heavy hitting flower because I felt it right away after the first hit. This is a good “one-n-done” if you have something to do, because more than one and you are going to be too “HIGH”. So if you need to be crisp don't smoke this. It didn't put me into the couch, which was great. I was super focused on what I was doing until something shiny caught my eye. I was feeling really jazzy, dancy, you know, almost biting my lower lip. When most people think of amendments for their garden they think of bringing in something from the outside. In this episode I'll explore ways that you can get plants working for you instead. This topic was originally intended to be a presentation at Environment Lethbridge's 2020 Seedy Saturday event. However, as with most events this past month, and for the foreseeable future, it was cancelled. https://www.plantsdigsoil.com/podcast/007-plants-as-soil-amendments scott@plantsdigsoil.com https://twitter.com/scottcgillespie https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottcgillespie/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/scottcgillespie/message
This episode of Desert Horticulture examines the possibility that verticillium wilt could be responsible for live die back in Desert Willow. The second question asks about soil amendments added to soil mixes such as Rock Dust, vermiculite or perlite. What are the reasons for adding them and why not? The third question compares Desert Museum Palo Verde with crepe myrtle and how they differ when managing them in the landscape and why. In today's episode, we finally start getting into the nitty gritty of Starting a Garden from Seed. We will be beginning with the topics of Seeds, Soil, and Supplies - and that's exactly what I dive into in this episode! First I talk about the importance of figuring out your Growing Zone. From there you can work backwards to figure out when you should be planting your seeds. If you're in Zone 6 like me, you probably won't be starting seeds for a few more weeks, so now's the perfect time to round up your seeds & supplies so you're not scrambling later on. Secondly, you need to get your seeds! There are 3 main companies that I have gone through in the past: Gurney's, Burpee, and Johnny's Seeds. All of these are highly reputable companies - it just comes down to preference. And it's important to note that there are a BUNCH of great suppliers out there! Lastly after discussing seed selection, I dive into the supplies that you will need. Primarily this will include seed trays, plug trays, inserts, and I talk about my favorite hydroponic seed starting kit and briefly touch on Soil & Soilless Media Mixes - that will be the next blog in this series and I will be diving into Soil health, Soilless mixes, Soil Amendments, and more! Also, if you're curious where I'm getting my supplies & seeds, keep your eyes peeled for a blog that details all of that information and includes links for easy access to what we're using in the Garden of Gains

Not everyone has the luxury of trucking in loads of perfect garden soil. Sometimes when it comes to garden soil, you gotta work with what you've been given. These soil amendments are great solutions for addressing the four big soil issues—aeration, water retention, acidity and nutrient value. Not only that, but I'll tell you when it's best to apply them! Amending soils is the solution to the problem garden. Bobby Spence with Silver Creek Materials in Ft Worth explains all, in this must-hear interview.
Mixing up a health drink for soil organisms. In This Podcast: When Ben Klempner and his family moved from Jerusalem to the holy city of Tiberias, he researched how to make the soil healthy in order to grow his vegetables. Finding information that was beneficial wasn't the only hurdle—he was so far away from the products he needed. He kept researching online and seemed to end up with the suggestion of Korean Natural Farming at the end of his searches. He took it as a sign. As Ben began creating products that utilized the fermenting process he realized that perhaps creating these nutritious, sustainable soil amendments for others was what he should be doing instead of growing his own vegetables. Thus, the Galil Soil Farm was born. Don't miss an episode! Click here to sign up for podcast updatesor visit www.urbanfarm.org/podcast Ben lives in the Holy City of Tiberias with his wife and children where he owns and operates Galil Soil Farm. Believing that good soil grows good food, Ben is passionate about growing the best soil and helping others to do the same. When not at the farm he can be found spending time with his children in the woods, paddling a kayak on the Sea of Galilee, or immersed in Bible Studies.
