March 8th 2025 is international womens day, so i thought we should celebrate all the wonderful lady drummers and percussionists from around the globe with a fabulous conversation with Emma Taylor. You must have have been living under a rock for the last 5 years if you havent seen Emma on social media, Since Covid she has a huge presence on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Germany is set to have a new chancellor, Friedrich Merz. From the conservative Christian Democrat party (CDU), Merz will now look to form a coalition government. The leader-in-waiting has made striking remarks in a post-victory speech, saying Donald Trump is indifferent to Europe's fate, putting the US president's America on a par with Russia. What does Merz's tone mean for Europe? Niall Paterson is joined by our Europe correspondent Adam Parsons to discuss how the Merz-Trump relationship could work.
The far-right Alternative for Germany party (AfD) is expected to have its best election results since it was formed 12 years ago. It's currently in second place in opinion polls with one in five Germans expected to back it at this weekend's general election. It will not, though, be part of any coalition government as the other parties will refuse to work with a far-right party. In today's Sky News Daily, host Tom Cheshire discusses who is voting for the AfD and why, with our Europe correspondent Adam Parsons and Jakob Guhl from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue in Germany. It's Romania's turn at the polls on Sunday, and a far-right candidate has made a surprise lead in the first round of voting. Călin Georgescu is a little-known, independent, anti-NATO, pro-Russia candidate, who is in a presidential run-off against centrist leader Elena Lasconi. The social media platform TikTok is credited with helping Georgescu to make those unexpected gains -becoming an effective way for the right to spread its message, and sway voter opinion. But Romania's authorities have suggested "a state-sponsored actor" has made a major attempt to interfere in the elections using TikTok, and with a series of cyber attacks. Georgescu's been accused of undeclared campaign spending and not labelling political advertising. Matt Barbet hosts today's Sky News Daily, joined by our Europe correspondent Adam Parsons in Romania, who's been speaking to Călin Georgescu. Plus, Anda Solea a lecturer in cyber crime at the University of Portsmouth, discusses how Georgescu used TikTok to rise to the top in the Romanian election. You can watch Adam's full interview with the Romanian presidential candidate here.Producer: Soila Apparicio Editor: Philly Beaumont
Joining me today is Scott Travis. Since 1989 Scott Travis has been the powerhouse drummer for British heavy metal legends - Judas Priest. Join Scott and myself as we have a brief chat about drums, Judas Priest and the current Invincible Shield Tour. Scott tells us as he is almost at the very end of an extensive US tour in support of the stunning new Priest album The Invincible Shield how the fatigue is setting in and how the band are looking forward to a few months off to recover after giving 110% night after night on a very long and gruelling world tour! We had to talk about Scotts introduction to Judas Priest and Metal fans in general with the now legendary drum intro to Painkiller. Scott tells us how he came up with this now iconic drum part! we also talk about another great drum intro from earlier in is career with Racer X on the song Scarified, an album i bought as a spotty long haired youth purely because it had a cool album cover! thankfully i instantly loved the content of the album too! Huge thanks to Scott for giving up his time so generously especially during a world tour! The left-wing alliance in France has won the most seats in a dramatic election, dealing a surprise blow to the far-right party of Marine Le Pen. Le Pen's National Rally was aiming to become the biggest party in parliament for the first time but was stopped by tactical voting and collaboration between her opponents. On this episode, Niall Paterson speaks to Europe correspondent Adam Parsons about the shock result and to Philippe Marliere, professor of French and European Politics at University College, about far-left politician Jean-Luc Melenchon and whether he could be the new French prime minister. Far-right parties have made gains in Germany, France and Italy - the EU's biggest member states.Their success has already led to a fall in the value of the euro as markets anticipate turbulent times ahead. President Macron's high-risk response to his Renaissance party losing to Marine Le Pen's National Rally was to call a snap election for the French parliament. Niall Paterson talks to Sky's Europe correspondent Adam Parsons about what's behind the far-right surge and Macron's decision. Plus, the Liberal Democrats launch their manifesto saying it's fully costed. Niall asks economics editor Ed Conway if their numbers add up and he talks to Jon Craig, Sky's chief political correspondent, to find out more about their policies. After months of parliamentary ping-pong between the House of Commons and the Lords, Rishi Sunak's Rwanda Bill has passed. The prime minister called it a "landmark" law, saying that "nothing will stand in our way" of getting flights off the ground within 10 to 12 weeks. However, the scheme could face yet more hurdles, with the potential for it to be held up by challenges in court. On this episode, Matt Barbet takes stock of the bill with Adam Parsons, Sky's Europe editor in France, who has been watching migrant boats cross the English Channel even after the bill's passing. Sky's communities correspondent Becky Johnson also joins Matt to share some of the stories from those asylum seekers already in the UK and what they might expect from the Rwanda bill. And Dr Madeleine Sumption, director of the Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford, details the potential impact this new legislation might have on migration figures. Formed in the late 80's they took the 90's by storm creating so many great songs and albums and some incredibly memorable gigs along the way. Join Stumpy and myself as we chat about his career from the very beginning of his drumming journey, he had the ultimate start from the age of 13 playing in pipe band drumming competitions over many years competing against the best in the world on snare drum, Stumpy also competed in the solo snare drum championship and getting runner up at age 15 in the under 21's category! He tells us how his pipe band skills could be applied to the traditional drum kit opening up so many different fills and rhythms around the drums that somebody without that rudimental knowledge would struggle to do so.As you may now The Almighty are reforming for 3 gigs in December 23, Stumpy tells us how much perdonal work he is putting into re learning the songs and finding the energy and stamina to get through the set. Stumpy talks about the legendary performance by The Almighty at Donnington on 22nd of August 1992 where the band opened the show with a short but blistering set winning over the whole enormous Donnington crowd! Discover the incredible journey of Adam Parsons as he transforms grief into advocacy and sheds light on mental health, making this episode a must-listen for anyone seeking inspiration and insights into navigating life's challenges. In this engaging podcast episode, I am joined by guest Adam Parsons. Together, we delve into a variety of topics surrounding mental health, stigma, and the imperative for transforming societal attitudes. Thank you so much for listening - be sure to like/review/rate/subscribe on your favorite podcast platform - any support is super helpful! As the creator of a mental health charity that seeks to reduce the stigma around mental health issues and provide valuable resources, Adam brings a unique and powerful perspective to the conversation. Our discussion traverses through various themes, initially addressing the misconceptions and challenges that individuals with mental health struggles frequently encounter. A poignant and recurring theme emerges, shedding light on the notion of a ruling class elitism within society. This perspective suggests that those who are neurotypical believe they possess authority over mental health narratives, often marginalizing and silencing those with mental health issues. Our conversation dismantles the inaccurate notion that discussing topics like suicide or trigger warnings fosters harmful thoughts. Instead, we emphasize the importance of creating a safe space for individuals to share their experiences without judgment. Adam also opens up about his grief journey after the loss of his wife. His vulnerability and authenticity underscore the significance of candid discussions about mental health. We challenge stereotypes and emphasize the need for open conversations. We also address the impact of cultural norms and historical perspectives on mental health. We passionately critique how attitudes in British society (and American too!) have hindered open conversations about mental health for generations. This perspective perpetuates the suffering of many individuals and underlines the necessity for change. Our discussion also touches on the concept of chosen families—those formed through conscious connections—and how they hold equal significance to biological families. We challenge the misconception that family relationships are inherently nurturing and emphasize the importance of setting boundaries with toxic family members for one's well-being. Throughout this thought-provoking episode, Adam and I both champion the destigmatization of mental health struggles and advocate for a society that encourages open dialogue. Our candid reflections, combined with our dedication to reducing stigma, underscore the importance of collective action and education. I hope our message resonates with listeners, inspiring them to challenge preconceived notions, foster understanding and create a safe space for all to share their mental health journeys. A week after police shot dead a 17-year-old boy of Algerian descent, named as Nahel Merzouk, as he drove away from a traffic stop, riots continue across France. The officer who shot Nahel has been charged with voluntary homicide and his lawyer says he is "devastated". Adam Parsons aka Up4TheChallenge has a different story of suicide than any you may have heard before. Having babies should be fun and free. If you're walking this road, it's likely neither of these things for you. The financial strain that fertility treatment can put on a couple just adds to an already incredibly hard road. In this episode, I introduce you to my friend Adam Parsons. He's a financial coach over at AP Financial Coaching. Adam and his wife Michelle went through IVF in 2020 at CCRM and just welcomed their precious miracle girl. Over the last year, Adam has become a friend and a trusted resource as we have developed a lot of financial tools to help other couples walking through IVF. We cannot wait to share those tools with you this year. If you haven't listened to episode 14, go listen to that first. Once you've mapped out a financial plan, then it's time to work toward your goal. Here are Adam's tips: Focus on consistency over perfection. Do the work on the front end so that sticking to the plan becomes as mindless as possible. It's about the pursuit and who you become through that pursuit. You will feel frustrated in this process. Step away when you need to but come back to the table. Progress happens in the coming back. Revert back to you why. When things get hard and you are forced to make sacrifices, this will help keep you encouraged as you work toward your goal. Get others involved. Make sure you and your spouse are teammates in this journey. Get friends and family involved to keep you encouraged. Encouragement: “If you have your plan in place, I want to encourage you to just keep going. That consistency and the coming back are so important. It's really hard. If you are feeling the weight of that and don't know where to turn, get others involved. You've done the hard work to create your plan and now it's time to just keep going. If you need help, get someone in your corner that can help you see the light at the end of the tunnel.” - Adam Parsons Links: Get coached by Adam: https://www.apfinancialcoaching.com/ Pursuit podcast episode: https://youtu.be/PdXNl-k5Acw Ad: https://www.theinfertilitysisterhood.com/beautycounter Ad: https://www.theovercomejournal.com/ If you love this podcast, I'd really appreciate it if you'd hit the subscribe button and leave me a 5 star review. It needs to be more detailed than just “I want a baby.” Use this time to set good financial habits and work together toward a greater goal. Use SMART goals: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic & timely Automate as much as you can. Save first. Create a plan. Then, automate the plan. Encouragement: “The first thing I would encourage you to do is to focus on that why. That is a very important piece. It seems small because you know what your why is internally, but sitting down with each other and writing it out will be the cornerstone that you can come back to when things get hard.” - Adam Parsons Links: Get coached by Adam: https://www.apfinancialcoaching.com/ Ad: https://www.megansmalley.com/givegracebook Ad: https://www.theovercomejournal.com/ If you love this podcast, I'd really appreciate it if you'd hit the subscribe button and leave me a 5 star review. EE Leaders | Leadership Lessons Season 1: Episode 9 - Being Flexible It’s no surprise to any of us. Things don’t always go as we planned. And so we have to be flexible. In this week’s episode, Pastor Daniel talks with his good friend Jason Sanchez, Director of House of Blessing Orphanage in Bachiniva, Mexico—a man well acquainted with the need to be flexible. Jason and his wife Jackie moved with their daughter Ayantu to Bachiniva in 2012 to start an orphanage, House of Blessing, where they are co-directors, along with a staff of four and interns and volunteers who serve short-term. They currently have 15 children in the orphanage, 5 boys and 10 girls, ranging in age from 3 to 16 years. How has he seen his plans not go according to plan in his ministry there? “My plans never go according to plan, especially in Mexico…Even now, five years later, it is still hard to get used to.” So how did being flexible work with that, how did you deal with it? Jason describes the process of first trying to fix it, to change the way it was and seeing his efforts prove to be futile, then crying out to God for help in getting done what God had clearly called them to do. Most of us know Proverbs 16:9: The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. We can quote it, but then when it actually happens that our plans don’t work out, we don’t like dealing with it. But you have to be flexible. God is the one in control. Where does planning fit in being flexible? Looking to Jesus as our example, we see that He knew where He was going, He was headed in a certain direction, but He stopped for people and gave them His time and attention, even when it was difficult or inconvenient. Jesus dealt with interruptions and distractions as opportunities to fulfill the Father’s plan. We need to know that God has the final say. And work on not stressing out when things don’t go the way you planned. …do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6) Some final words of encouragement from Jason: If you really want to grow in this area of flexibility, look for an opportunity for a cross-cultural experience. Go on a missions trip. You can reach Jason at thehouseofblessing.org on FB as Bachiniva Orphanage. This week’s One Piece of Advice fits right in with this idea of learning to handle stress—don’t freak out. God is in control. ___ Quotes: “God, if we’re really going to live down here and do this, then you’ve got to change me, personally, in how to adapt to this. Because it was very hard and very, very frustrating.” -Jason Sanchez “In America, we go, go, go. We do, do, do. Maybe it’s planning your schedule to allow for some flex time.” -Jason Sanchez “Pray: ‘God, give me the spirit of flexibility.’ Pray for openness. ‘Lord, I literally want my plan to go according to your way.’” -Jason Sanchez “We think of God working through us in ministry. God wants to work in us through ministry." -Adam Parsons “Anything that has come into my life or your life, God has a unique purpose for.” -Adam Parsons
