This is an excerpt of a full length episode currently only available to patrons. To become a patron and support what we're doing from £3 per month, head to www.patreon.com/LoveMessagePod. In this patrons-only bonus episode, Jeremy and Tim have a conversation about what music has been on their turntables recently. Jeremy brings a pair of Indian compositions from very different ends of the musical spectrum: a steel strung guitar played like a sitar, and one of ten famous 'ragas to a disco beat'. Joining the dots between Indian Classical, '60s American fingerpickers and today, we also hear a new-ish release on show favourite International Anthem from reformed Post-Rocker Jeff Parker, and tuck into some 2010s electronic Afro-Disco from London's Ibibio Sound Machine. Tim shares a number of new discoveries, including the riotous contemporary Ghanian gospel of Alotgté Oho and a deeply psychedelic dancefloor freakout from Nico Gomez. We end with the new release from our friends at Beauty and the Beat, a tried-and-tested remix from our friend Kay Suzuki of some fantastic Guadalupian Gwoka. This is part of a rough series of more conversational, unplanned episodes reflecting on what's been on our record players recently and what we've been up to that we'll be releasing to patrons to say thank you for your support. Produced and edited by Matt Huxley. The tracks discussed are: Jeff Parker - Four Folks Vishwa Mohan Bhatt - Raag Bageshree Don Cherry - Om Shanti Om Alogté Oho - Doose Mam Ibibio Sound Machine - The Talking Fish Nico Gomez and His Afro Percussion Inc. - Baila Chibiquiban Charanjit Singh - Raga Bhairav Gaoulé Mizik - A Ka Titine (Kay Suzuki Gwoka Dub) Order your copy of Excursions in Gwoka vol . 1 from Beauty and the Beat here: https://beautyandthebeat1.bandcamp.com/album/excursions-in-gwoka-vol-1-batb-005

Poly-Rythmo Club starts the year 2020 with the finest grooves coming from the South of South America. The city of Buenos Aires is known for being one of the most musical places in the world and this is where we interviewed two key players of the underground Afro-Disco scene: Harari and Pabels. Harari is a record collector, Dj and Founder of Highlife, a multi cultural platform based in Buenos Aires. Highlife has a focus in music, visual arts and performances. During the last 3 years they have shaken the city night life by bringing artists such as Bosq, Selvagem, Rahaan, Mr Mendel, Ray Mang, and Carrot Green amongst others. They have also done collaborations with Dekmantel, Red Light Radio and are starting their own series of events in Melbourne. Pabels is one of the young promises of the groove scene in the city. He's the creator of the delicious "Day mixes" for La Tropical, Soundcloud's biggest and most select tropical mixtapes with more than 150.000 plays each. Pabels spreads the love for the summer lifestyle blending the best of funk, hip hop, house, soul, disco and balearic music into an unpaired identity. With 24 years he is truly mastering the perfect soundtrack for a summer sunset and also curating the Latinamerican dj's stage at Lollapalooza Argentina. Press play and welcome to the southern soul groove!

Akendengue - Epuguzu Re-Edit By Petko Turner Pierre-Claver Akendengué (born April 25, 1943) is a musician and composer from Gabon. In 1997, he received his country's "Prix d'excellence" at the Africa Music awards in Libreville, honoring his body of work. He also serves as a cultural advisor for the government of Gabon. Born on the island of Awuta, which is located just off the coast from Port-Gentil, Akendengué went to school in Port-Gentil, then studied psychology at the University of Caen in France during the 1960s. While in France, he met singer Mireille, who encouraged his musical interests. In 1974, Akendengué recorded his first album, Nandipo, which consisted of songs of his own composition, sung in French and Nkomi, accompanied by guitar, women choir, bass and the percussion of Nana Vasconcelos. He later set to music poems by P. E. Mondjegou, such as "Le Chant du Coupeur d'Okoumé" ("The Song of the Okoumé Cutter"). Returning to Gabon, he studied solfeggio and plainchant at a Catholic college, and presented spectacles showcasing traditional Gabonese forms in a concert setting. In 1986, he received a doctorate from the University of Paris for his study of religion and education among the Nkomi.

My press credential from a 1993 trip to Libreville, Gabon in Africa where I went to report on a summit that was organized by Philadelphia's Rev Leon Sullivan and was well attended by many African-American civil rights luminaries including Coretta Scott King, Jesse Jackson, Cicely Tyson, & Dick Gregory. Thanks to Philadelphia radio station WDAS and their then head of the news department, E. Steven Collins, for that experience. I had a simple quiet and unforgettable moment in an elevator there with Coretta Scott King...kinda divine Loosely related but I hope a good story for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leon_Sullivan#Leon_H._Sullivan_Summit
