For this months episode we head back to 1971 for a batch of epicly long prog epics, peppered with the occasional bit of folk rock, powerpop, metal, jazz, and afrobeat. Our longest playlist yet, and lots of fun along the way! We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. World music has a special place in my musical heart and was started by the ground breaking UK group Osibisa in the early 70s with the single music for a Gong Gong, where they created a new genre of music that originated from the early 20th century, Highlife music that is characterised by jazzy horns, multiple guitars and an up-tempo, synth-driven sound. Then came along the song that launched Osibisa, ‘Sunshine Day, the band set my musical ears, heart and soul alight when they Combined disparate sounds from Africa, America, the Caribbean, Osibisa broke traditional genre boundaries to emerge as the ultimate African band for me. This was the start of my appreciation and love for world music, after hearing Osibisa I found a record store that specialized in Reggae/Ska and African music, with guidance from the owner and some of the customers, that started my wonderful journey along the musical yellow brick road of world music. Roger Dean is a visual artists and one of the all time greats of psychedelic and sci-fi art. His mesmerizing landscapes transports the viewer to another world of floating rocks, vivid colours, surreal arching rock formations and futuristic architecture. With an incredibly successful career stretching back to the 60's, Roger's work rose to prominence through the music industry, adorning album covers for Asia, Osibisa and a long standing collaboration with the rock band Yes. Matt Zimbel is a percussionist with the band Manteca, and also an award-winning writer, producer, documentary filmmaker, artistic director, broadcast executive and radio and tv host. Richard Bailey Drummer for some of the greatest names in music Guyanese-born Richard Bailey started his drumming career in Trinidad at the age of nine, sitting in on percussion, drums and even bass guitar with his elder brother Robert's ( Robert Bailey, keyboard -OSIBISA) group, the top band in Trinidad and Tobago at that time. He also accompanied Robert, who played Hammond organ, to perform TV/Live concerts as a duo. At twelve years old Richard's family moved to London where Richard went to school, sitting in on occasional gigs in his spare time, but while at school Richard also excelled in athletics, becoming Southern England school champ at 100 metres. His father, Emmanuel McDonald Bailey had held the world record for the 100 yards and won an Olympic Bronze for England. Even so, Richard decided to leave school at fifteen to play drums, leaving behind athletics. At sixteen Richard was recording and touring the UK and USA with Johnny Nash and the great Bob Marley. By eighteen he had recorded Jeff Beck's biggest selling album “Blow By Blow” (1975, Epic/Sony Japan) to critical acclaim and appeared on the film soundtrack “Tommy” alongside Pete Townsend, Phil Chen and Roger Daltrey. The next decade saw many recordings and tours varying in style from Rock to Reggae to Jazz to Pop and Latin including two world tours with Billy Ocean and Basia. Richard occupied the drum seat with the the excellent British acid jazz/rock/soul fusion collective “INCOGNITO” for the past 15 years. More recently he has been an integral part of Steve Winwood's two important return-to-form recordings, 2003's About Time (Wincraft) and last year's Nine Lives (Columbia). Pocos saben que Barrabás ha sido el grupo español que más discos de larga duración ha vendido en el mercado estadounidense, aún menos saben que han ocupado el nº 1 de ventas en países como Canadá o Alemania, que han ocupado el nº 1 en las listas de música negra en Estados Unidos y que en 1975 fue designado por la revista Playboy mejor grupo mundial en la clasificación de estilo Funky, y comparados con los mismísimos Steely Dan. Eso fueron Barrabás, auténtico Funky español para el mercado internacional y un grupo que hoy cuesta trabajo reconocer como nuestro, dado el estilo absolutamente norteamericano de su música. El nuevo LP de estos recuperados Barrabás, que es el que estamos pinchando hoy, Piel de Barrabás, nos muestra una banda que guarda características de los genuinos Barrabás: ritmos muy bien elaborados, profusión de percusiones, sentido de bloque sin músicos que destaquen sobre otros, gusto por los temas bailables de corte funky… No obstante, se diferencian de los antiguos en la casi desaparición de los coros femeninos, alejamiento de la música disco, abandono del hammond y el piano eléctrico por los modernos sintetizadores. De este disco salen dos singles, «On the road again» y «Please Mr. Reagan, Please Mr. Breznev». Ambos tienen un aceptable volumen de ventas. El primero de ellos vuelve a colarse en las listas de algunos países americanos sin sobresalir en exceso, pero en España es el segundo más escuchado tras una intensa campaña de promoción personal del grupo por emisoras de radio. Podemos decir que Barrabás nace de un proyecto de Fernando Arbex, quien fuera batería y compositor de Los Brincos, tras la disolución de éstos, Fernando quería formar un grupo que combinara el funk con ritmos y percusiones latinas, tal como lo estaban haciendo Santana, Osibisa y Mandril El primer intento de Arbex fueron Alacrán, junto a su amigo Óscar Lasprilla y el bajista Iñaki Egaña, procedente de Los Buenos. En 1969 fichan por Zafiro y entran en los estudios Celada de Madrid para grabar su único disco, que se publica al año siguiente, sin prácticamente promoción por parte de la compañía discográfica. La grabación, de tan solo 30 minutos , contiene seis temas con diferentes influencias, unos temas de marcado carácter latino al estilo de Carlos Santana, y otros más psicodélicos estilo Costa Oeste americana. Pero no consiguen ninguna actuación, y la banda se disuelve. Arbex, junto al bajista y cantante de Alacrán, Iñaki Egaña, deciden formar otra banda, seguimos en 1971, y así nace Barrabás.

Santrofi è una formazione del Ghana di otto elementi, con trombone, tromba, chitarre, tastiere, basso, batteria e percussioni: alcuni componenti del gruppo hanno lavorato con figure storiche della musica ghaniana come Ebo Taylor e Pat Thomas, e con una formazione che ha avuto un ruolo pionieristico nel portare la musica africana in Europa, gli Osibisa, ma anche con protagonisti della scena più recente del Ghana, per esempio una star come Sarkodie. Registrato in Ghana e pubblicato nel 2020 dalla etichetta tedesca out/here, Alewa è un album che guarda soprattutto alla storia della musica moderna ghaniana, spaziando tra highlife, afrobeat declinato in una chiave godibilmente morbida, e altri umori, come richiami alla musica congolese e a quella sudafricana, non senza spunti che provengono dalle tendenze ghaniane più attuali.

No doubt the biggest thrill about producing The Major Scale is in interacting with living legends and heroes of the music world, which we've been blessed to do on a number of occasions. This episode we proudly welcome Abdullah Ibrahim, the man, the maestro, an artist with no need for an introduction. For decades he's dazzled music lovers and critics alike, from his native South Africa to the world at large. He's prolific with a gift for inventive composition. His unique way with the piano leaves the soul in warm delight and the eardrums in awe. We talk with him about The Balance, Jedi knights, love, and other matters of the spiritual heart. Jazz is America's native art form, but its heartland is in Africa. Abdullah Ibrahim reinforced this fact in our chat and it got us thinking about the cycle of influence that the two continents have had on one another. Hoy hablaremos y repasaremos unos años realmente anodinos. Durante esta época fueron pocos los grupos o solistas nuevos que aparecieron en el negocio de la música. Eso sí, el año 1973 será recordado como el año en que subió a los cielos, literalmente, el primer presidente de gobierno nombrado después de la guerra civil, el Sr. Carrero Blanco, tras un periodo de cuarenta años en el que el propio Francisco Franco monopolizó el puesto. Musicalmente hablando, vamos a recordar hoy a unos artistas y grupos que resultarán de lo más variopinto. Nos detendremos en primer lugar en este grupo: Barrabás. Barrabás nació de la mano de Fernando Arbex, quien tras la disolución de Los Brincos quiso formar un grupo en el que se combinase la riqueza instrumental de las formaciones sinfónicas con los ritmos y percusiones latinas, así como con el funk, al igual que estaban haciendo otras formaciones como Santana, Mandrill u Osibisa. Arbex creó Barrabás en 1971, tras la separación de su efímera banda Alacrán. Junto al bajista y vocalista de Alacrán, Iñaki Egaña, que con anterioridad había estado en Los Buenos, se unirían otros cuantos músicos para el álbum de debut que se editaría el siguiente año. Arbex tocó la batería en la grabación de este primer disco, conocido como Barrabas, Música caliente por ser el subtítulo de la cubierta posterior, sin embargo nunca tocó en directo con el grupo , si no que el batería titular desde sus comienzos fue José María Moll. Arbex se limitó a la composición de canciones y a la producción. Desde el segundo álbum, Barrabas Power (1973), Iñaki Egaña fue sustituido por el vocalista José Luis Tejada. Egaña volvería a la formación en 1983 para la grabación del último álbum de la banda. Uno de sus mayores éxitos, incluido en su primer álbum, fue "Woman", que llegó a colocarse en las listas de éxitos de Norteamérica, Europa y Latinoamérica, llegando a número 1 en Canadá y que ya hemos escuchado, pero en ese álbum también se encontraba "Wild safari", otro éxito internacional. Esto es “Wild Safari”. Las Grecas fue un dúo que por estas fechas se inventó un nuevo género que más adelante sería reivindicado por numerosos artistas: el flamenco rock o, lo que es lo mismo, la fusión. En 1965 las hermanas: Carmela y Edelina Muñoz, que así se llamaban, junto con el resto de la familia Muñoz se traslada a Argentina por motivos laborales del cabeza de familia y allí las dos hermanas entran en contacto con la música norteamericana, desde el rock de Jimi Hendrix hasta el jazz de George Benson, sin obviar a los artistas sudamericanos, como el argentino Sandro o el brasileño Caetano Veloso. Regresaron a España en 1970 para pasearse por varios tablaos de Madrid hasta que fueron fichadas por Felipe Campuzano para la CBS. La compañía probó en primer lugar juntar a Carmela y Tina con instrumentistas de flamenco y pop, pero finalmente decidieron hacerlas acompañar por músicos de rock de primera categoría, como Johnny Galvao, Eddy Guerin o Pepe Nieto. Se grabó el primer sencillo, «Te estoy amando locamente», como cara A y «Amma immi», como cara B y el experimento resultó ser un éxito desbordante. Fue número uno en las listas durante cinco semanas consecutivas, y se llegaron a vender 500.000 copias del disco. Pero, desgraciadamente, este éxito no les sentó nada bien. Tras varios trabajos sin ninguna repercusión, el grupo se disolvió en 1977. En 1983 se le diagnosticó a Tina una «esquizofrenia paranoide complicada con toxicomanía», enfermedad que hizo que, en un momento de crisis, llegase a herir a su hermana clavándole un cuchillo en el hombro. Ingresó en la prisión de mujeres de Yeserías y en varias clínicas psiquiátricas, de las que no tardaba en huir. En numerosas ocasiones se la pudo ver merodeando sin rumbo por el centro de Madrid o por las calles de San Blas, barrio en el que ambas hermanas vivían. En enero de 1995 falleció en un centro de acogida de Aranjuez, a los 37 años de edad, a causa de la mala alimentación y de muchos problemas que generó su enfermedad: el sida. Pero no todo era rock and roll. En esta época surgieron diversos grupos y solistas que se dedicaron a poner música a poetas con mayor o menor fortuna. Uno de ellos se llamaban Los Lobos, no confundir con el grupo chicano. Esto es otra cosa, cosas como esta versión musicada de un poema de Miguel Hernández: “Tristes guerras”. También Massiel intenta cambiar de imagen en 1972. Su triunfo en Eurovisión de 1968 empezaba a volverse contra ella. El “La, la, la” y su minifalda la habían encasillado como una cantante frívola y de nada valía su continuo descubrimiento de nuevos autores a los que daba la oportunidad de darse a conocer. Recordemos que había sido la primera en grabar a Luis Eduardo Aute, Manolo Díaz y otros. Así que se lió la manta a la cabeza y pasó de cancioncillas de Herrero y Armenteros a Bertol Brecht. Y no solo en discos, sino en teatro. Montó un espectáculo profusamente difundido por los medios de comunicación de la época que destacaba el doble valor de la cantante: por atreverse a cambiar de estilo y por enfrentarse al nada fácil Brecht. Las críticas fueron más comprensivas que entusiastas y el álbum de Massiel dedicado a Brecht ha quedado en la antología de las curiosidades sin llegar nunca a colocarse en las listas de éxitos. Como homenaje a la valentía de la, algunas veces, denostada interprete, escucharemos uno de los cortes de este álbum: Balada de María Sanders. José Pablo Guerrero, cantautor y poeta extremeño, afincado en Madrid desde finales de los años 60, ha utilizado siempre un estilo sobrio y poético en los textos de sus canciones. Musicalmente parte de armonías y melodías tradicionales de su tierra, aderezadas con sonidos del folk americano, el rock, el jazz o el flamenco. Es un cantante español con una larga y reconocida carrera artística. Aunque más conocido como cantautor, como poeta ha ido publicando asiduamente desde el año 1988. Pablo Guerrero también forma parte del grupo que han cantado a poetas, de hecho musicó a Miguel Hernández antes que Serrat en un disco que se iba a llamar Tierra—, pero la censura de la época no le permitió grabarlo. En el año 1972 Pablo Guerrero graba su primer disco de larga duración, A cántaros. La canción del mismo nombre llevaba un subtítulo bastante largo («Tú y yo, muchacha, estamos hechos de nubes»), rápidamente la canción se convirtió en uno de los himnos libertarios de la época. En este disco “A cántaros” se aprecia la influencia del folk americano: de gente como Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Bob Dylan y, particularmente, del escritor y cantautor Leonard Cohen. Por estas fechas llega el gran éxito de la guitarra flamenca. Paco de Lucia graba, de rebote, una rumba a la que no da ninguna importancia. De hecho, es improvisada deprisa y corriendo porque hace falta algún tema nuevo para completar el disco. Entre dos aguas, una rumba flamenca instrumental, fue grabada con dos guitarras, la de Paco y la de su hermano Ramón de Algeciras, el bajo de Eduardo Gracia y un bongó a cargo de Pepe Ébano. En un principio el álbum Fuente y caudal no tuvo mucho éxito comercial, quedando prácticamente descatalogado en pocos meses. Pero Jesús Quintero, su representante en aquel momento, convenció a la discográfica para que editara Entre dos aguas como single, saliendo a la venta en 1974. Como sencillo, Entre dos aguas vendió más de 300.000 copias y estuvo 22 semanas en los primeros puestos de las listas de ventas, siendo «single de oro» en 1976; Esto, por supuesto, catapultó a la fama a su autor: Paco de Lucia. Entre dos aguas. Rosa León comenzó su carrera musical a principios de los años setenta en una formación llamada Rosa y Jorge, junto a Jorge Krahe, cantando en diferentes locales con un estilo que ya empieza a anunciar una cierta crítica socio-política. Todos sus éxitos comerciales han estado vinculados a Luis Eduardo Aute, autor tanto de “De alguna manera”, que Rosa grabó en 1973, como de la famosa “Al alba”, que publicó en 1975. Después de grabar el álbum Tiempo al tiempo en 1978, que no logró resultados espectaculares en el mercado, Rosa León no vuelve a editar un disco hasta 1983, con Rosa se está buscando en el espejo, que incluye el éxito ¡Ay paloma! Rosa León ha estado siempre comprometida con causas políticas. Ingresó en el Partido Comunista de España en 1977 para posteriormente vincularse con el PSOE, llegando a ser concejal por este partido, entre mayo de 2004 y septiembre de 2007, del Ayuntamiento de Madrid. A partir de esa fecha colaboró con el Ministerio de Cultura y ha sido directora del Instituto Cervantes en Casablanca y en Dublín. Vamos a escucharle en ¡Ay Paloma! Jeanette nació en Londres el 10 de octubre de 1951. De madre española, natural de Tenerife y padre belga de ascendencia maltesa nacido en el antiguo Congo Belga. Después de muchas idas y venidas por todo el mundo la familia se instala en Barcelona a partir de 1964. En la ciudad conecta con el mundillo artístico y conoce a músicos de la talla de Jordi Sabatés y Toti Soler. De esta relación nació el grupo Pic-nic y su gran éxito “Cállate niña”, compuesta por ella misma. En 1974 José Luis Perales ofrece una canción al representante de Jeanette que grabaron inmediatamente. La canción era “Porque te vas” pero las ventas no fueron las esperadas por ambas partes pero, ese mismo año el director de cine Carlos Saura escucho «Porque te vas» en la radio y decide incluirla en el proyecto Cría cuervos. Cría cuervos se estrenó en 1976 y «Porque te vas» se convirtió en tema de apertura y banda sonora de la película. Cuando esta ganó el Festival de Cannes el éxito de «Porque te vas» estalla en toda Europa. Una curiosidad; el título de la canción se ha prestado siempre a errores. En realidad, no está preguntando el motivo de su marcha, sino que está constatando un hecho. Y vamos a terminar el programa de hoy recordando otro fallecimiento que, si bien no fue tan trascendente para la historia como el comentado al principio del programa, sí que significó una de las grandes pérdidas para la joven música pop española de la época. Nos referimos al accidente que quitó la vida al cantante valenciano Nino Bravo cuando se trasladaba de Valencia a Madrid y cuando su carrera estaba en lo más alto. Uno de sus grandes éxitos fue “Libre”. A pesar de su éxito en España, la canción tomó ribetes políticos en Latinoamérica, aunque de manera paradójica. Fue prohibida en Cuba pero en Chile fue adoptada como un himno anticomunista haciéndose muy popular entre los simpatizantes de la dictadura militar. Muchos asocian esta canción como un homenaje a Peter Fechter, conocido por ser la primer víctima del Muro de Berlín al ser abatido en 1962 a los 18 años al intentar cruzarlo. Sin embargo, no existen evidencias sobre la conexión entre ambos hechos. En cualquier caso, la interpretación es extraordinaria. Para la semana que viene tenemos preparado un interesante capítulo dedicado al jazz. No os lo perdáis. ¡¡¡Hasta entonces, … Buenas vibraciones!!!

Hoy hablaremos y repasaremos unos años realmente anodinos. Durante esta época fueron pocos los grupos o solistas nuevos que aparecieron en el negocio de la música. Eso sí, el año 1973 será recordado como el año en que subió a los cielos, literalmente, el primer presidente de gobierno nombrado después de la guerra civil, el Sr. Carrero Blanco, tras un periodo de cuarenta años en el que el propio Francisco Franco monopolizó el puesto. Musicalmente hablando, vamos a recordar hoy a unos artistas y grupos que resultarán de lo más variopinto. Nos detendremos en primer lugar en este grupo: Barrabás. Barrabás nació de la mano de Fernando Arbex, quien tras la disolución de Los Brincos quiso formar un grupo en el que se combinase la riqueza instrumental de las formaciones sinfónicas con los ritmos y percusiones latinas, así como con el funk, al igual que estaban haciendo otras formaciones como Santana, Mandrill u Osibisa. Arbex creó Barrabás en 1971, tras la separación de su efímera banda Alacrán. Junto al bajista y vocalista de Alacrán, Iñaki Egaña, que con anterioridad había estado en Los Buenos, se unirían otros cuantos músicos para el álbum de debut que se editaría el siguiente año. Arbex tocó la batería en la grabación de este primer disco, conocido como Barrabas, Música caliente por ser el subtítulo de la cubierta posterior, sin embargo nunca tocó en directo con el grupo , si no que el batería titular desde sus comienzos fue José María Moll. Arbex se limitó a la composición de canciones y a la producción. Desde el segundo álbum, Barrabas Power (1973), Iñaki Egaña fue sustituido por el vocalista José Luis Tejada. Egaña volvería a la formación en 1983 para la grabación del último álbum de la banda. Uno de sus mayores éxitos, incluido en su primer álbum, fue "Woman", que llegó a colocarse en las listas de éxitos de Norteamérica, Europa y Latinoamérica, llegando a número 1 en Canadá y que ya hemos escuchado, pero en ese álbum también se encontraba "Wild safari", otro éxito internacional. Esto es “Wild Safari”. Las Grecas fue un dúo que por estas fechas se inventó un nuevo género que más adelante sería reivindicado por numerosos artistas: el flamenco rock o, lo que es lo mismo, la fusión. En 1965 las hermanas: Carmela y Edelina Muñoz, que así se llamaban, junto con el resto de la familia Muñoz se traslada a Argentina por motivos laborales del cabeza de familia y allí las dos hermanas entran en contacto con la música norteamericana, desde el rock de Jimi Hendrix hasta el jazz de George Benson, sin obviar a los artistas sudamericanos, como el argentino Sandro o el brasileño Caetano Veloso. Regresaron a España en 1970 para pasearse por varios tablaos de Madrid hasta que fueron fichadas por Felipe Campuzano para la CBS. La compañía probó en primer lugar juntar a Carmela y Tina con instrumentistas de flamenco y pop, pero finalmente decidieron hacerlas acompañar por músicos de rock de primera categoría, como Johnny Galvao, Eddy Guerin o Pepe Nieto. Se grabó el primer sencillo, «Te estoy amando locamente», como cara A y «Amma immi», como cara B y el experimento resultó ser un éxito desbordante. Fue número uno en las listas durante cinco semanas consecutivas, y se llegaron a vender 500.000 copias del disco. Pero, desgraciadamente, este éxito no les sentó nada bien. Tras varios trabajos sin ninguna repercusión, el grupo se disolvió en 1977. En 1983 se le diagnosticó a Tina una «esquizofrenia paranoide complicada con toxicomanía», enfermedad que hizo que, en un momento de crisis, llegase a herir a su hermana clavándole un cuchillo en el hombro. Ingresó en la prisión de mujeres de Yeserías y en varias clínicas psiquiátricas, de las que no tardaba en huir. En numerosas ocasiones se la pudo ver merodeando sin rumbo por el centro de Madrid o por las calles de San Blas, barrio en el que ambas hermanas vivían. En enero de 1995 falleció en un centro de acogida de Aranjuez, a los 37 años de edad, a causa de la mala alimentación y de muchos problemas que generó su enfermedad: el sida. Pero no todo era rock and roll. En esta época surgieron diversos grupos y solistas que se dedicaron a poner música a poetas con mayor o menor fortuna. Uno de ellos se llamaban Los Lobos, no confundir con el grupo chicano. Esto es otra cosa, cosas como esta versión musicada de un poema de Miguel Hernández: “Tristes guerras”. También Massiel intenta cambiar de imagen en 1972. Su triunfo en Eurovisión de 1968 empezaba a volverse contra ella. El “La, la, la” y su minifalda la habían encasillado como una cantante frívola y de nada valía su continuo descubrimiento de nuevos autores a los que daba la oportunidad de darse a conocer. Recordemos que había sido la primera en grabar a Luis Eduardo Aute, Manolo Díaz y otros. Así que se lió la manta a la cabeza y pasó de cancioncillas de Herrero y Armenteros a Bertol Brecht. Y no solo en discos, sino en teatro. Montó un espectáculo profusamente difundido por los medios de comunicación de la época que destacaba el doble valor de la cantante: por atreverse a cambiar de estilo y por enfrentarse al nada fácil Brecht. Las críticas fueron más comprensivas que entusiastas y el álbum de Massiel dedicado a Brecht ha quedado en la antología de las curiosidades sin llegar nunca a colocarse en las listas de éxitos. Como homenaje a la valentía de la, algunas veces, denostada interprete, escucharemos uno de los cortes de este álbum: Balada de María Sanders. José Pablo Guerrero, cantautor y poeta extremeño, afincado en Madrid desde finales de los años 60, ha utilizado siempre un estilo sobrio y poético en los textos de sus canciones. Musicalmente parte de armonías y melodías tradicionales de su tierra, aderezadas con sonidos del folk americano, el rock, el jazz o el flamenco. Es un cantante español con una larga y reconocida carrera artística. Aunque más conocido como cantautor, como poeta ha ido publicando asiduamente desde el año 1988. Pablo Guerrero también forma parte del grupo que han cantado a poetas, de hecho musicó a Miguel Hernández antes que Serrat en un disco que se iba a llamar Tierra—, pero la censura de la época no le permitió grabarlo. En el año 1972 Pablo Guerrero graba su primer disco de larga duración, A cántaros. La canción del mismo nombre llevaba un subtítulo bastante largo («Tú y yo, muchacha, estamos hechos de nubes»), rápidamente la canción se convirtió en uno de los himnos libertarios de la época. En este disco “A cántaros” se aprecia la influencia del folk americano: de gente como Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Bob Dylan y, particularmente, del escritor y cantautor Leonard Cohen. Por estas fechas llega el gran éxito de la guitarra flamenca. Paco de Lucia graba, de rebote, una rumba a la que no da ninguna importancia. De hecho, es improvisada deprisa y corriendo porque hace falta algún tema nuevo para completar el disco. Entre dos aguas, una rumba flamenca instrumental, fue grabada con dos guitarras, la de Paco y la de su hermano Ramón de Algeciras, el bajo de Eduardo Gracia y un bongó a cargo de Pepe Ébano. En un principio el álbum Fuente y caudal no tuvo mucho éxito comercial, quedando prácticamente descatalogado en pocos meses. Pero Jesús Quintero, su representante en aquel momento, convenció a la discográfica para que editara Entre dos aguas como single, saliendo a la venta en 1974. Como sencillo, Entre dos aguas vendió más de 300.000 copias y estuvo 22 semanas en los primeros puestos de las listas de ventas, siendo «single de oro» en 1976; Esto, por supuesto, catapultó a la fama a su autor: Paco de Lucia. Entre dos aguas. Rosa León comenzó su carrera musical a principios de los años setenta en una formación llamada Rosa y Jorge, junto a Jorge Krahe, cantando en diferentes locales con un estilo que ya empieza a anunciar una cierta crítica socio-política. Todos sus éxitos comerciales han estado vinculados a Luis Eduardo Aute, autor tanto de “De alguna manera”, que Rosa grabó en 1973, como de la famosa “Al alba”, que publicó en 1975. Después de grabar el álbum Tiempo al tiempo en 1978, que no logró resultados espectaculares en el mercado, Rosa León no vuelve a editar un disco hasta 1983, con Rosa se está buscando en el espejo, que incluye el éxito ¡Ay paloma! Rosa León ha estado siempre comprometida con causas políticas. Ingresó en el Partido Comunista de España en 1977 para posteriormente vincularse con el PSOE, llegando a ser concejal por este partido, entre mayo de 2004 y septiembre de 2007, del Ayuntamiento de Madrid. A partir de esa fecha colaboró con el Ministerio de Cultura y ha sido directora del Instituto Cervantes en Casablanca y en Dublín. Vamos a escucharle en ¡Ay Paloma! Jeanette nació en Londres el 10 de octubre de 1951. De madre española, natural de Tenerife y padre belga de ascendencia maltesa nacido en el antiguo Congo Belga. Working in many fields from painting and architecture, to typeface, furniture and stage design. UK artist Roger Dean is perhaps best known for his album covers for groups such as Yes, Asia, Osibisa and Pink Floyd. More than sixty million copies of Roger's images have been sold around the world, as album covers, posters, cards, calendars and books. His work has been exhibited in many galleries and museums, including the V&A, The Royal Academy and The Royal College of Art. In 2010, the Daelim Contemporary Art Museum in Seoul, Korea, held a major retrospective of his work. Roger studied at Canterbury College of Art and then between 1965-1968 at The Royal College of Art, where he received a first for his Master's Degree and a silver medal, for Work Of Special Distinction. He has since been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the San Francisco Academy of Art University and an Honorary Fellowship by the Arts Institute of Bournemouth. With his brother Martyn, Roger has formed two publishing companies and also developed architectural prototypes, which have been exhibited at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham. Since 2007, he has worked with his daughter Freyja on projects such as the sets and costumes for the 150th anniversary of the Puccini Festival. Not only being referenced in countless films, his work has inspired generations of students who have gone on to become professional designers and artists as well as demonstrating the importance of never going anywhere without a sketchbook and pencil. Roger's work is chronicled in three volumes: ‘Views’ (1975), Magnetic   Storm(1984) and Dragons Dream (2008).
