As we move from week 10 into week 11 of Strictly Come Dancing our RNIB Connect Radio Strictly Star Reviewer blind ballroom dancer Shaun Hayward is back reflecting and commenting on how well blind Liverpudlian Comedian Chris McCausland and his Professional Dance Partner Dianne Buswell have been faring in the competition. It was back to Elstree this week after the Blackpool special with Chris and Diane dancing a paso doble with Dianne's parents in the audience having come all the way from Australia to see them dance in the competition. Then to Shaun and Toby discussing the other couples including Tasha and Aljaz with a top score of 40 points for their American smooth, a great Charleston from JB and Loren just one point away from that top score of 40 points with just Craig not giving them 10 and not forgetting Toby's favourite couple Sarah and Vito too. Ending as usual with Shaun and Toby discussing whether it was the right choice for Jamie and Michelle to leave the competition. Sara Davies is the warm-hearted, fast-talking, hard-working entrepreneur you will know from Dragons Den. She still lives in the same village in County Durham where she grew up and is married to Simon who she started dating when she was 15. They have two boys: Oliver and Charlie. We met up at my house a couple of hours after her weekly QVC appearance and we talked about looking in the camera during zoom conversations, being 100% present with whatever you're doing, her early struggles with breastfeeding, and her Dad's questioning as to why she is still working so hard now she has a family. We also talked Strictly! About how she had to learn to let down her guard, and wiggle her bum; how she fitted in her dance training by starting it every day at 6am, much to Aljaz's horror; and how ‘Uncle Aljaz ' has become part of the family. We agreed it's never good to ask people to when they're planning to start a family. And I tried to flog her an idea she'd actually just come up with herself - and I have the proof here on tape, that she told me “I'm in”! Kevin talks to Strictly Come Dancing professional and champion, and 19-time Slovenian champion in Ballroom, Latin and Ten Dance, Mr Aljaz Skorjanec - one of the most popular of all Strictly pros, about the ways in which has conquered lockdown, his upcoming projects, his incredible performance journey so far, and the passion for dance that has driven him onwards. KEY TAKEAWAYS Lockdown has granted us the perspective to see what is important, and a re-evaluation of the things we hold dear. This is especially true for dancers and performers. It's always wise to stop once in a while and connect with the things that bring us joy. For Aljaz, the simple act of online gaming and reminiscing with friends has caused him to remember what life is all about. Life is full of magical opportunities, especially for performers, who are able to travel to wonderful places, and take on personas otherwise not available. Some days, the art of dancing can be tough. Rehearsals can seem insurmountable, and the choreography isn't working. But true dancers, who have the passion in the ri blood, will push through because they know the rewards are life-enhancing. BEST MOMENTS 'I actually thought I was tired of the thing that I did, and now I've realised that I actually love what I do' - 4:37 'You for get about things because life is too fast' - 7:07 'I got to be James Bond!' - 18:19 'I know for sure that I'm never going to be able to get away from being a dancer' - 27:17 VALUABLE RESOURCES Aljaz Skorjanec Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/aljazskorjanec/?hl=en Aljaz Skorjanec Twitter - https://twitter.com/AljazSkorjanec ABOUT THE HOST Kevin Clifton is a professional dancer who has been performing & competing at the highest level for over a decade. On September 19, Aljaz Ivacic made his Major League Soccer debut, earning a victory in goal for the Portland Timbers against the San Jose Earthquakes. That win came 21 months after he moved to Oregon from his native Slovenia. In between, the 26-year-old had to recover from an early-2019 surgery as well as pay his dues with Portland's USL team, Timbers 2. Now, having played a part in the Timbers' 6-1 win over the Earthquakes, Ivacic can move on the next step of his MLS story. Last week, we talked to Ivacic about that MLS debut but also some of the qualities that distinguish him from his fellow goalkeepers in Portland. Perhaps more importantly, we get his verdicts on "Allio," "Jazzy," and the other names he's picked up during his time in green and gold.
