Eine besonders strenge Erziehung wollten Victoria und Albert ihrem  Sohn angedeihen lassen, der einst als König Eduard VII. die Geschicke Großbritanniens lenken sollte. Tatsächlich aber beschränkte sich die Regierungszeit Edwards auf neun Jahre - und die überaus lange Wartezeit im Schatten seiner königlichen Mutter Vertrieb sich der 'Prince of Wales' mit  Zerstreuungen der besonderen Art.  Besonders die Damenwelt hatte es 'Dirty-Bertie', wie man ihn schon  bald nennen sollte, angetan und Eduard, der häufig auf diplomatischen Missionen im Ausland unterwegs war, verbrachte wohl mehr Zeit in Bordellen als auf Empfängen. Berühmt sollte er für seinen eigenwillig konstruierten Liebesstuhl werden, über dessen genaue Funktionsweise noch heute gerätselt wird. Und da gab es auch die mit Champagner gefüllte Badewanne für Berties favorisierte Gespielinnen, aus der man dann genussvoll trank. Eduards Eskapaden jedenfalls galten als legendär, und doch brachten ihm die Briten eine gewisse Sympathie entgegen. Denn vergessen sollte man nicht, dass der britische Monarch mit den vielen Vorlieben letztlich eine durchaus erfolgreiche Außenpolitik betrieb und  das Empire in eine neue Zeit führte. 1903, sowie 1904  besuchte Eduard übrigens Österreich und versuchte sein Glück wohl auch bei der schönen Sisi. NU ER JEG JO IKKE DEN STORE TALER, MEN - Det kan være en udfordring at holde tale for en stor forsamling - både for taleren og for tilhørene. Men konger er født til at holde tale i snart sagt en hver anledning, så man forventer at en konge kan levere den gode tale. Men hvad hvis kongen har en talefejl og for eksempel stammer? Kongens store tale (2010) er instrueret af Tom Hooper efter et skuespil skrevet af David Seidler. I hovedrollen ser vi Colin Firth som Hertugen af York og den senere engelske Konge George VI også kaldet Bertie, der på grund af talevanskeligheder konsulterer den australske talepædagog Lionel Logue spillet af Geoffrey Rush. I 1936 dør Kong George V og Berties storebror David overtager tronen som Kong Edward VIII, men abdicerer samme år på grund af et uortodokst ægteskab med skuespilleren Wallis Simpson spillet af Eve Best. Bertie, der ikke havde regnet med at blive konge, må overtage tronen som Kong George VI.
