"Gamecocks Talk with Captain Will" delivers the latest updates and insights on the South Carolina Women's Basketball team, including news on recruitment and more. Head Coach Dawn Staley's 2024 recruiting class is impressive, but will it rank as one of the best? Staley's first significant class in 2014 featured A'ja Wilson, Jatarie White, Jaydra Duckett, and Bianca Cuevas. In 2016, Tyasha Harris, Araion Bradshaw, and Mikiah Harrigan joined the team. The 2017 additions were Elisia Grissett, Bianca Jackson, and LaDazhia Williams. The 2018 class spotlighted Destanni Henderson and Victaria Saxton. The 2019 "freshie" class included Aliyah Boston, Zia Cooke, Laeticia Amihere, and Breanna Beal, while Eniya Russell came in 2020. Raven Johnson, Saniya Rivers, Sania Feagin, and Bree Hall joined in 2021. Ashlyn Watkins and Talaysia Cooper were the newcomers in 2022. And in 2023, Milaysia Fulwiley, Chloe Kitts, Tessa Johnson, and Sahnya Jah were welcomed. The season starts with a match against the Michigan Women's Basketball team in Las Vegas on November 4th. Under Head Coach Dawn Staley, the team features dynamic players like Raven Johnson, Bree Hall, Chloe Kitts, and Ashlyn Watkins, with strong support from the bench, including MiLaysia Fulwiley, Tessa Johnson, Sania Feagin, and Sakima Walker. New recruits Joyce Edwards, Maddy McDaniel, and Adhel Tac add to the team's bright prospects for the season. In the midst of the Harlem Renaissance, W.E.B. DuBois wanted children to have something to read. Something that was speaking to them. So he started The Brownies' Book, a monthly periodical for “children of the sun.” One hundred years later, sociologist Dr. Karida Brown and visual artist Charly Palmer bring us The New Brownies. And: Why Brenton Boyd says that Black Americans and Carribeans have already coped with the rapture. She is owning her sun-filled room most radiantly. Listen in to catch some of her rays! Viv's new book, Happy High Status: How to Be Effortlessly Confident, is out now. @vivgroskop
