Matt and Luke hop aboard their TV Time Machine to view the TV landscape of February 2000. EastEnders turns 15 with a double episode which sees the residents of Albert Square locked in the Vic when an unexploded WW2 bomb discovered nearby. The BBC try their at a traditonal American sitcom, with audience laughter and a team of writers producing the Ardal O'Hanlan superhero comedy My Hero. In better comedy, a fresh-faced, but very astute and already polished northern comedian, Peter Kay gets his first full series in Channel 4's That Peter Kay Thing. The series, in which Kay plays a variety of different characters, is done in the docusoap style popular at the time, and the lads watch two episodes of the series. The first of which would become Kay's hit sitcom, Phoenix Nights. Lastly, there's gritty drama Nature Boy, which aired on the BBC and starred Lee Ingelby as a teen who was living in an abusive foster environment who finds he has an affinity with wildlife. And, as always, Matt tests Luke's knowledge of the UK music scene of the time.

Author and historian Charles Spencer has written many books including The White Ship, To Catch A King and A Very Private School, and now finds himself down a Rabbit Hole – along with his fellow trivia hunters Cat Jarman and Richard Coles - in their podcast The Rabbit Hole Detectives. Digging into the past and uncovering weird and wonderful stories, every week the trio discuss the whos, whats, whens and whys and have now turned all this into a book… aptly titled The Rabbit Hole Book. Charles joins us to dig a little deeper… Romy Gill is a celebrated chef and food writer whose many TV appearances include Ready Steady Cook, Morning Live, Countryfile and Celebrity Masterchef, as well as being a regular voice on Radio 4 on The Food Programme. Her food is inspired by both her West Bengal and Punjab roots, and she tells us all about her new book in which she collects many recipes of home, Romy Gill's India. Former EastEnder turned X Man Ben Hardy has left both Albert Square and his superhero wings behind to take on the role of Luke, a single father and a seemingly straight, white, car mechanic, who meets and forms a deep relationship with a south Asian, queer, club dancer called Ayesha in the film Unicorns. Ben joins Clive to talk about the challenges of the role and his leap from the small to the big screen. Comedian, writer and campaigner Sarah Mills was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2018, or, as she puts it, “my bum tried to kill me”. Since then, she has tried to shine a light on hidden disability and has been breaking taboos in conversations around what would normally be seen as embarrassing bodily functions. She tells us all about her new Radio 4 series Sarah Mills' Bad Bod Squad, and all things leaky, squeaky, lumpy and wonky. There's music from New Starts who bring their style of new wave and angular guitar rock with two songs - Don't Need Persuading and Let Me Start Again.Presenter: Clive Anderson Producer: Elizabeth Foster Production Co-ordinator: Lydia Depledge-Miller

Natalie Cassidy has grown up in front of the nation. She was only ten years old when she joined the cast of Eastenders. Over the last 30 years, her character - Sonia - has become one of the most popular residents of Albert Square, as she's dealt with a teenage pregnancy, a cancer scare and bereavements. Natalie had to have music lessons when her character famously took up the trumpet on Eastenders, so let's see if that has influenced her choices as she selects her Inheritance Tracks.Natalie is the co-host of the podcast, 'Off The Telly' which is available now. Producer: Lowri Morgan
On this week's show, Jason and Dave welcome along an entertainment juggernaut! A star of stage and screen who's done it all and shows no signs of stopping! He recently departed Albert Square to head up west for the bright lights of the Palladium, to perform with Bradley Walsh, Shane Richie and Joe Pasquale! It can of course, only be the one and only Mr Brian Conley!
He was an iconic resident of the most famous square in London, but could Beppe DiMarco be pulling up a stool at The Queen Vic again?Michael Grecco is coming to Dublin as one of the stars of Twelve Angry Men in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre from 16th-20th April and he joined Dave to chat Eastenders, playing poker in Dublin and how his love for a very popular word game.
In episode seven of "Parachute Candidate," I speak with Lord Michael Cashman. Born in London, Michael has dedicated his life to improving the lived experience of the LGBTI+ community worldwide. Many will recognise Michael from his work on Albert Square as Colin Russell in "EastEnders." In 1989, his role featured the first same-sex kiss on a British soap! Activism is at the very core of his life, and this passion has led him to serve in the European Parliament for 15 years and in the House of Lords since 2014. Michael has positively shaped democracy, and his continued hope for positive change for all, not just some, is remarkable. We discuss his journey as a member of the Rainbow community, co-founding Stonewall, his work in politics, and the rollback in protecting minority people. We conclude by speaking of his beloved Paul Cottingham, with whom he spent over thirty years and who sadly passed away in 2014.Some films I suggest to watch; "The Normal Heart", "Love, Simon", “A Secret Love", "Pray Away" and "The Boys in the Band". A poignant but important song about the journey we take as community members and allies is "Boys in the Street" by Greg Holden and Seeb. Andy & Martin get their cock-er-nee on as they explore the London-set family saga Fox, executive-produced by Verity Lambert. Written by Trevor Preston (The Sweeney) and directed by Jim Goddard (Out) and boasting a stellar cast - Peter Vaughan, Elizabeth Spriggs, Bernard Hill, Rosemary Martin, Ray Winstone and many more - Fox was expected to be a big success but just did not catch the imagination of the ITV audience back in 1980. Fox is a curious beast, with its ambition to be a sprawling epic despite only covering a period of 8 months and its incredibly off-putting musical content which really has to be heard to be believed. Its also a difficult watch in places principally due to its casual depiction of domestic violence and terrible treatment of its female characters. Achingly toxic masculinity aside, Fox also has a proto-Eastenders obsession with family and loyalty and yet is populated by characters who are much less engaging than those in Albert Square. If you've never watched Fox we still invite you to hop in this televisual music-filled black cab to the East End of 1980 in order to muse in a pre-Brexit daydream why fings aint wot they used to be...

The talented and charming Joanne Heywood stopped by the recording studio while on a holiday tour of Northern Mississippi! We learn that Ms. Heywood's first professional acting role was the musical “High Society” (and we even get a bit of her singing on the episode). Which cast member kept giggling during Grace & Favour? AND which actor did all of their own stunts? What could the original AYBS series get away with in comedy that the later sequel couldn't? How does an actor handle an upstaging horse who wants the spotlight? John Inman's lovely codpiece! Was it intimidating to be a new actor on the cast with the very well-known AYBS leads? We learn about Ms. Heywood' 2 years on “First of the Summer Wine”. A connection from Grace & Favour to Gavin and Stacey! What was it like to be an audience member during the filming of the show? She stared in Coronation Street three times, EastEnders, and Emmerdale! We hear accents ranging from East London's “Albert Square” from EastEnders to Proper Northern Lass. What American TV show could be compared to Are You Being Served? The expensive custom nightie made by famous lingerie house Rigby and Peller. Theft in the wardrobe department! And what would have happened to Miss. Lovelock if the series had continued? You can find Joanne Heywood in a Christmas Panto this year. (And yes, Ms. Heywood is unanimous in this). Now that the confetti has settled on the Platinum Jubbly, we're looking back at all of the major moments from the big weekend. The Sussexes returned from California, and even had a special birthday celebration for Lilibet, while the Cambridge kids were front and centre for many of the royal events, including Prince George and Princess Charlotte's first walkabout, and a scene-stealing balcony appearance by Prince Louis. Elsewhere, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles paid a visit to Albert Square, and the royals managed to weaponise the universal appeal of Paddington Bear in a video with the Queen. Plus, we discuss the Queen's partial absence — and Prince Andrew's total absence — from the festivities, and what it means for the monarchy going forward. Thanks so much to our fabulous Eastenders correspondent Shy Charles, and thank you to everyone who has listened over the past three years. #AbolishTheMonarchy
Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.This time Tim's the guest, chatting to Ben Baker about Something Outa Nothing, the song 'written' and performed by The Banned, a group formed by the teenage residents of Albert Square in EastEnders, and then released by BBC Records And Tapes as an actual hit single credited to Letitia Dean And Paul J. Medford. Along the way we'll be speculating on which exotic rare synthetically-furred animal was used to make Letitia and Paul's stage costumes, debating the correct syntax for Jimi Hendrix-based insults, questioning the wisdom of using the word 'alabaster' in song lyrics and revealing why people kept handing Nick Berry unwanted plates of fish and chips. You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/.If you enjoy Looks Unfamiliar, you can help to support the show by buying us a coffee here. This week I catch up with the lovely Phil Lawrence. Phil is currently writing for the BBC soap 'Eastenders' and has written for 'Casualty'. I've known Phil for nearly 19 years. We first met, as actors, performing in the cult comedy 'I Am Star Trek' - Phil was playing Spock, I was a Klingon, amongst many other characters! Phil tells us about his formative years, living in Erith and how his love of all things Science Fiction was born. We discuss his journey from being an actor, touring 'Privates On Parade' to writing his first play. Phil explains his route from writing for the stage to currently writing on 'Eastenders'. Grab a cuppa and reminisce with us!
Welcome to episode of 122 of The All Seeing Guys Podcast with Greg & Joe. We kick off as always with our eavesdropping stranger's conversations segment, Geezedropping! Greg slips into 'This is happening on Eastenders' mode which triggers a brief stroll down Albert Square's memory lane, and then we dive into our main theme for the episode. Back in February 2018, we did the 'Tuck It In Special: Bad Pub Reviews' episode. After popular demand, we are revisiting this but with a few local food places too. It's a lot of fun as we dive into the Google reviews for these establishments, some good, some bad, some hilarious and of course, we spin into a few random conversations along the way. Also, Greg shares a story where a random woman in Sainsbury's invites him to lunch. All this and much more.
