“There're piles of skulls, which of course I appreciate” - Steve on the set design On this week's episode, Totally Cool Awesome 80s Month and the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza pay tribute to the late, great Val Kilmer with a convo about the super-fun Ron Howard fantasy flick, Willow! How amazing are Warwick and Val together on screen? Isn't it refreshing that Davis was just allowed to put a shirt on and be this character, without getting covered in prosthetics or whatever else? Wouldn't things have been just fine in this movie without the Brownies flying around? And how amazing is that two-headed Siskel & Ebert monster? PLUS: Queen Bavmorda accidentally touches The Ooze and becomes Super Bavmorda (and is also played by Kevin Nash)! Willow stars Warwick Davis, Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley, Jean Marsh, Patricia Hayes, Billy Barty, Mark Northover, Pat Roach, David Sternberg, Phil Fondacaro, Tony Cox, Kevin Pollak, Rick Overton, and Gavan O'Herlihy as Airk; directed by Ron Howard. Don't miss our next Worldwide Digital Event, happening Friday, June 20th at 9pm/eastern where we'll be LIVE talking about a total superhero all-timer, Superman II! Before weed was legal in any U.S. state, it was medicine passed hand-to-hand—often in the form of a brownie. In part one of our Webby-nominated series Before Legal Weed, host Ellen Scanlon brings you the untold story of how San Francisco's gay community turned to cannabis during the darkest days of the AIDS crisis—and how a woman-run cannabis operation called Sticky Fingers Brownies quietly became a lifeline. You'll meet Meridy Volz, a mother delivering pot brownies on roller skates through the Castro in the 1980s, and her daughter, author Alia Volz, who grew up watching a revolution unfold from the back of a stroller. Through powerful personal stories and rarely heard history, you'll learn: How a women-run cannabis business became a lifeline for the gay community What it was like to grow up in San Francisco during the height of the AIDS epidemic Why this story still matters in today's conversations around cannabis as medicine

What happens when a food-obsessed cyclist pedals across the U.S. in search of the real American plate? In this fun and heartfelt episode, food writer and national treasure Felicity Cloake joins host Samuel Goldsmith to dish on everything from smoky barbecue and spicy dumplings to Midwest lake culture and late-night toast rituals. Felicity shares stories from her latest book Peach Street to Lobster Lane, which chronicles her epic ride from California to Maine, taste-testing her way through Tex-Mex mashups, Amish Southern cooking, and Serbian sausage in Chicago. Expect culinary confessions (spoiler: she once cooked pasta in a kettle), a love letter to buttered toast, and an unapologetic ode to trifle. With a side of political observations, dog dinners, and a few questionable hot dog contests—this episode is a feast of flavour, culture, and laughter. Hit play if you love food, travel, and a good story, or just want to know how many hot dogs someone can eat in ten minutes.Felicity Cloake is the multi award-winning author of the Guardian's long-running How to Make the Perfect series, the New Statesman's food column and seven books, including One More Croissant for the Road and Red Sauce Brown Sauce, which won the Fortnum and Mason food book of the year award in 2023. Few psychiatrists have ventured beyond the confines of Western clinical thinking. Dr. Ralph Allison was one of the rare exceptions. While treating patients diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, he began to encounter alters that were far more than psychological fragments. These were fully formed, autonomous entities with their own histories, intentions, and, in some cases, violent desires. Some existed to protect. Others sought total control. A few wanted their host dead. This might be one of the most important conversations we've had in the Machine Shop MBA series—because we're unpacking a mindset that quietly limits the growth potential of so many shops: the “cashier model.” We've seen it time and time again—shops waiting at the counter for purchase orders to roll in, instead of actively building relationships, solving problems, and driving new revenue. That model might work for a while, but over time it leads to stagnation. That's why we brought in Mike Fritz, a fellow host and the mind behind Machine Shop Growth, to break down exactly why shops get stuck—and how to break out of it. Together, we explore the three customer types every shop must understand: current, dormant, and new. We share how we approach each one, the psychology behind why they buy, and the specific tactics we've used to unlock more value from the accounts we already have—while building smart pathways to growth. If you've ever looked at your sales numbers and wondered why things aren't growing the way they should, this episode might explain why—and what to do next. Jennair and Mark Gerardot had been married for 24 years and together for 28, with a relationship marked by its share of highs and lows. Mark, often passive, contrasted sharply with Jennair, who could be more assertive, even aggressive at times. The couple, without children or much family nearby, were content to focus on their pets, which they both adored. However, when Jennair lost her job and struggled to find a new one, her self-esteem began to take a hit. The couple's dynamic shifted as Jennair's sense of identity eroded. When Mark landed a new job in Delaware, Jennair stayed behind in South Carolina to pack up their life and handle the logistics of their move. This gave Mark six weeks of bachelor-like freedom. During this time, he and his 33-year-old boss, Meredith Sullivan Chapman, began developing a “work crush” on each other, igniting an affair that would change everything. As we left off, Jennair, ever perceptive, had begun to sense that something was off with her husband, though she couldn't yet put her finger on it. What began as quiet suspicions soon spiraled into an all-consuming obsession. Jennair's fixation on Meredith would lead to a devastating conclusion — one that no one could have predicted.Listen to part 2 today on PatreonToday's snack: Brownies from Greyston Bakery (thanks Anne!)Sources20/20 episodehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbCY0mzb1DM&ab_channel=ABCNewshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_DloWsfpug&ab_channel=ABCNewshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXn4al0z-8A&t=354s&ab_channel=ABCNewsSeason 1 of the Bad Bad Thing PodcastIrreparablehttps://www.wcnc.com/article/news/nation-world/husbands-affair-leads-to-murder-suicide-involving-mistress-and-wife-in-pennsylvania-home/507-545703243https://www.wyff4.com/article/former-upstate-mans-affair-leads-to-ambush-killing-of-lover-wifes-suicide-police-say/20065002https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-43899187https://www.newspapers.com/image/422251929/?terms=Jennair%20Gerardot

(Swallowed Alive In Great Dismal Swamp) *** A weeping mancalled the police to tearfully apologize for murdering his victims… but that didn't stop him from continuing to kill again and again. (The Weepy Voiced Killer) *** In Hindu culture, it is believed if certain post-death rituals are not conducted on those who have passed away, the deceased's family would not prosper and there would be misfortunes aplenty. One family in Bhutan had to learn that the hard way. (The Stoning Ghost of Sombek) *** An apparent incident involving a “gigantic cigar-shaped UFO” somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean in May 1963 wasn't reported for almost 20 years, when a witness to the event finally came forward through a written letter of the incident. (The Atlantic UFO of 1963) *** In a beautiful little town in North Wales, children ran through the graveyard, searching for little men with big eyes and long ears. They were searching for strange fairy folk – the ‘brownies' of Bangor. (The Brownies of Bangor) *** Serial killer Ed Gein was caught and arrested for his crimes in November of 1957 – but that didn't mean Gein's neighbors would see the end of his influence on their lives. (Selling Ed Gein) *** Four people take a trip to France and stay at hotel that appeared too good to be true – because it was.
