I've known meditation teacher Bodhipaksa for several years. He was one of the first to use the internet when it was "new" to teach others about meditation when there wasn't a group or temple nearby. He has also spread knowledge about what the Buddha really said (by dispelling fake Buddha quotes online). With his latest book release, I interviewed him in this episode to help you learn more about mantras, recitations/chanting, visualization, meditation, and some interesting insights about the Buddha and meditation! Anything we want to do that's important to us will face (sometimes severe) resistance. One Bible perspective calls resistance its own "god of this world"--and St. Paul himself makes the point profoundly: "The thing I most want to do I don't do." Dave Schmelzer does a dive into the insights of the most-read recent thinker on the subject, Steven Pressfiled in his seminal The War of Art. Recovery For All

A reading of an interpretation of the Meta PrayerThe Metta PrayerThe Buddha gave a beautiful teaching on the development of loving-kindness called the Metta Sutta (also known as the Karaniya Metta Sutta). I’ve adapted the words of the sutta to formulate them as an aspiration that can be repeated in a prayer-like way.In order that I may be skilled in discerning what is good, in order that I may understand the path to peace,Let me be able, upright, and straightforward, of good speech, gentle, and free from pride;Let me be contented, easily satisfied, having few duties, living simply, of controlled senses, prudent, without pride and without attachment to nation, race, or other groups.Let me not do the slightest thing for which the wise might rebuke me. Instead, let me think:“May all beings be well and safe, may they be at ease.Whatever living beings there may be, whether moving or standing still, without exception, whether large, great, middling, or small, whether tiny or substantial,Whether seen or unseen, whether living near or far,Born or unborn; may all beings be happy.Let none deceive or despise another anywhere. Let none wish harm to another, in anger or in hate.”Just as a mother would guard her child, her only child, with her own life, even so let me cultivate a boundless mind for all beings in the world.Let me cultivate a boundless love for all beings in the world, above, below, and across, unhindered, without ill will or enmity.Standing, walking, seated, or lying down, free from torpor, let me as far as possible fix my attention on this recollection. This, they say, is the divine life right here. Translated and adapted by Bodhipaksa from the Pali Metta Sutta.

Pop Art Painter Jamie Roxx (www.JamieRoxx.us) welcomes  Bodhipaksa (Author of I Can’t Believe It’s Not Buddha, 2018) to the Show!  www.bodhipaksa.comwww.wildmind.org Bodhipaksa was born in Dundee, Scotland, in 1961 and became interested in meditation and Buddhism while in high school. He became a practicing Buddhist while he was completing a degree in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at the University of Glasgow. After graduation he made a switch to community education, in which he helped bring educational opportunities to single parents and at-risk youth in an impoverished town outside of Glasgow. From there he moved to being the director of Dhanakosa Retreat Center for four years and later was the director of the Edinburgh Buddhist Center. He completed an interdisciplinary Master’s degree in Buddhism and business at the university of Montana. As a result of this he started Wildmind (www.wildmind.org), which is an online meditation resource. That in turn led to him publishing around a dozen guided meditation CDs, one of which was the best-selling meditation title on Amazon for three years. In 2002 he moved to New Hampshire, where he still lives. He has two children, who are adopted from Ethiopia. Bodhipaksa has published many guided meditation albums and several books, the most recent of which is “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Buddha,” which comes out on November 6, 2018. He’s currently under contract to write a book on self-compassion, to be published in 2019.
