Happiness is a choice. It's a bold statement, but it's one I wholeheartedly support. Whether you agree with this statement, or whether the idea sits a little uncomfortably with you, I think you are going to get a lot out of this uplifting conversation. My guest is Mo Gawdat and he has been at both ends of the spectrum on which we might consider happiness lies. And he's unlocked the key to true contentment, no matter what obstacles you may come across in life. You might know Mo as the former Chief Business Officer of Google X – a role with status and riches that many might aspire to. You may also know him as the respected ‘happiness expert', speaker and bestselling author of self-help books like Solve For Happy and his latest book, That Little Voice In Your Head. We begin our conversation by talking about the concept of success and fulfilment and why his money only gave him joy when he gave it away. We also chat about how the sudden and tragic death of his son at the age of 21 set him on a path to make a billion people happier. This is a wide-ranging, personal and heartfelt conversation. Listening to Mo's account is incredibly emotional, yet he's so full of love, truth and gratitude. I'm so grateful to him for sharing so honestly and authentically but I get the idea that Mo knows no other way. This man embodies the idea that happiness is a set of skills and beliefs that we can all practice. And you can choose to practice them, no matter what life puts in your way. When you listen to him speak, it's hard not to agree. Support the podcast and enjoy Ad-Free episodes. This January, try FREE for 30 days on Apple Podcasts https://apple.co/feelbetterlivemore. Kamala Harris believes she “won” the debate. It's hard to argue with that conclusion. But there were unintended consequences her team did not factor in. And that is sympathy for Trump, or as they would tell it on the Left, “sympathy for the Devil.”Please to meet you. Hope you guessed my name.I, too, thought Kamala Harris had won the debate. By the end, I was so demoralized, so sad, and so full of despair that I just went to bed and hoped it would be gone by morning.I knew it wasn't just a debate. It's much bigger than that. It's a TIME magazine cover. It's Frank Luntz and the Spectator declaring the debate will cost Trump the election. It's a thousand points of light on Twitter, a once-great coalition undone by ugliness for ten long years. It's a Stephen Colbert monologue. It's a Taylor Swift endorsement. It's the center of Bill Maher's entire universe on Friday night. It will be Saturday Night Live. It's too big. Too insurmountable. It's everything, everywhere, all at once.Or is it?When I woke up, scrolled through TikTok, and read the post-debate polls, I found headline after headline declaring voters' choice for president unmoved. It made no difference whatsoever, and, if anything, sympathy tipped in Trump's direction, and Harris suddenly became as unlikable or “likable enough” as Hillary Clinton. Why?Because the Trump haters have destroyed themselves and any good thing they ever stood for trying to destroy him, and at some point, the worm turned. They are so close to what they believe is the total destruction of Trump they can taste it. But I watched Trump somehow survive the debate unscathed. Something about his ability to not attack Harris adequately worked in his favor. Call it the Charlie Brown effect.Harris made the fundamental mistake of leaving her JOY™ and unity hats at the door and putting on her prosecutor's hat. Had she shown up as a gracious, respectful, serious person ready to answer serious questions, she might have won over some voters. That wasn't what happened. She showed up as a hybrid between Hillary Clinton and the ladies of The View.We have a brighter future ahead, she declared. But those words ring hollow since she's been in power for almost four years. How many more false promises can the Democrats make at the people's expense? They promised that they were the better side, the optimistic side, the unity side, the ADULTS in the room. Not only have they failed — in Afghanistan, at the border, at our grocery stores, in our schools, and on our streets — but they have lurched toward corruption unseen and unprecedented in this country's history, up to and including hiding a cognitively impaired president — who is still in office, by the way — and pulling a fast one on us that Kamala Harris is suddenly something new. Hummingbirds use their long tongues to sip nectar from flowers. They're able to roll their tongues into a tube-like shape. Since the 1800s, scientists thought those tongues worked through capillary action, like how water instantly rises into a straw in a full cup. But when scientists spent years using slow-motion cameras to capture hummingbirds drinking in greater detail, they uncovered a completely different story: the tongues act like a tiny but powerful pump.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. As a Dental practice owner, one of your key roles is to be able to build and lead your team. Success in your business requires that you master this skill. It's not a skill that we're born with. It's not a skill that is taught at dental school. It's a skill that we need to develop after dental school, but it is a skill that can be learned. Recognising that it is your team that looks after your business, we therefore want YOU to be able to look after your team. Creating an environment for them to thrive and do the best work that they can do. In this episode of The Savvy Dentist Podcast, Dr. Jesse Green is joined by Daniel Murray from empathic consulting. Daniel and Dr. Jesse discuss how empathy as a leadership tool unlocks discretionary effort, how it unlocks culture. They explain what empathy is … and what it's not. This is really about practical leadership to deliver practical results. At the heart of our philosophy lies the belief that empathy is the paramount capability for enhancing outcomes across businesses, leadership, and communities. Despite its frequent oversight or misinterpretation in the corporate world, empathy embodies the profound ability to comprehend both the rational and emotional motivations of others. By cultivating this vital skill, leaders and businesses can forge deeper connections with their employees, customers, and stakeholders. This empathetic approach enables the development of groundbreaking competitive strategies and the nurturing of dynamic, diverse teams, ultimately driving greater employee engagement and organisational success. Guiding Principles discuss in this episode include; Understanding & Empathy: greater self-awareness of the actions, behaviours and subconscious drivers of tension in teams. Better Conflict Management: healthily disagreement & challenge to balance fairness, performance & accountability. Effective Feedback: the power of immediate, direct & kind feedback to foster a transparent & constructive environment. Empathy and Understanding: a strong call to action for empathic support of team members to truly understand their perspectives & behaviours. Personal Accountability and Growth: inspire personal growth & accountability at all levels with leadership becoming the way we behave not a title or position. [5:43] - How do we boost productivity? How do we get that discretionary effort? [10:33] - Where does empathy and empathic leadership fit within our dental practice? [14:09] - Sympathy v. Empathy … what are the differences? [21:32] - Why you should seek to understand someone's perspective first. [27:06] - How to create strong, trusted relationships with your team. [33:07] - Separate trust, from rapport. You are not there to be a team member's bestie. [34:50] - Do not think that conflict is a bad thing that should be avoided. If you're having conflict, this is good because that means people care enough to speak up. [40:02] - How do you start the process of becoming a more empathic leader?

My name is Pamela Hughes and I'm a former talk show host turned life coach. After 20 years in the news business, I walked away from what people thought I should do and I did what I wanted to do … coach people who are stuck like I was and help them find relief, awareness and control within themselves. This was no easy task and I'm not here telling you it was. I had to take full responsibility for where my life was and then decide where I wanted it to go. It was time to stop complaining about my situation and do something about it. I had to stop looking for others to validate me and start having my own back. This required looking inside myself for the answers instead of looking outside myself. I told you it wasn't easy … but I wouldn't change one thing about my journey because it led me right here to you reading about it, maybe identifying with aspects of it and hopefully being inspired to get UNSTUCK.
Who is blessed? Those with money, power, and influence? Actually, what Jesus says, is the exact opposite. He says that the blessed are the poor in spirit, those who mourn, and those who've been humbled by the hardships of life. If that doesn't make sense, lean in with all your questions and doubts, because the Kingdom of God is better and more hopeful than you can imagine. | SWITCH IRL | Find a location near you here: https://www.life.church/locations/ | SOCIAL | Switch YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/SwitchYouthSwitch Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lcswitch Switch Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SWITCHonline Switch TikTok: https://vm.tiktok.com/pcsPJf Switch Music Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/switchmsc Switch Music YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/SwitchMSC Switch Music Website: https://www.life.church/switch-music Switch Music Spotify: https://go2.lc/SwitchMusicSpotifySwitch is a place where students get to have fun with friends while focusing on growing their relationship with God. It was cup final day and Sumit and his brothers were dreaming of victory. They had all travelled to Kiev to watch Liverpool play the final match in Europe's premier competition. All the brothers had to do was navigate their way past the burly, gun-toting security guards and find their seats.Once the brothers had entered the stadium, they were dismayed to discover that their seats were a long distance from the pitch. They also only provided a view of half of the action as a cinder block significantly obscured their view. The brothers would have to work together in order to save their big day. Would there be something one of them could say or do to get the seats they had dreamed of?Today we reflect on the joy of spending special time with special people and we reflect on the unique bonds that only brothers can share.Alex Melia, and the Stories of Men team are on a mission to uncover what it means to live an independent and meaningful life. We'll be sharing this knowledge with you every week. We'd like to extend our appreciation to today's guest, Sumit. Episode 164 | Let's be honest. It's rewarding and painful to:
Whether you're a current leader or aspiring to become one, today's leader, Rachael Robertson, has a story you'll need to hear. Tasked with leading an Australian team in Antarctica, Robertson had to make quick, decisive decisions in an environment where nobody was allowed to find refuge. Everyone had to find a way to work together immediately and without fail. How did she do it? You'll hear today how the employment of one simple (but not easy) technique helped her not only maintain control but help her group thrive in the harshest of environments. Of course, as always, this greatest hits episode also includes a headline, Doug's trivia question, and more. For details on those, here are the original show notes: Learn more about your ad choices. Sometimes Christmas reminds us we are so happy! But sometimes Christmas reminds us we should be joyful but we aren't. And today's episode is all about eliminating comparison from our lives. We are in the middle of this peace and joy series. Today we are talking about something that robs us of joy year round but especially at Christmas and that is comparison and envy. Learn what comparison does to us The difference between envy and jealousy How to use purpose to find joy Comparison will either make you feel inferior or superior, neither honors God. And during the Christmas season in the hustle of it all, it is easy to compare so many things to others. Bonuses, Christmas presents, holiday invites, family connections…the list goes on. The Way Comparison Works: Definition of Comparison: What is it: It isn't an emotion. But it drives emotions that make us feel some sort of way. Comparison is the crush of conformity from one side and competition from the other – it's trying to simultaneously fit in and stand out. Comparison says to be like everyone else but better. Fit in but win. But it's an impossible task. How can you win the race and be next to your teammates? Comparison will either make you feel inferior or superior, neither honors God. And that's the issue, comparing ourselves to others leads us to fear, shame, sadness, and anger. When we can't win, we get envious of what others have that makes them seem better than us. Envy occurs when we want what someone else has. Jealously is when we fear losing a relationship or a valued relationship. Comparison > envy > jealousy > inferiority of superiority > negative feelings that come with it Our future is shaped by our past comparisons. Not only in the decisions we make. But in the way we feel about ourselves. We can't escape comparison but we can escape allowing it to make us unhappy with our circumstances. You were not made to compare. You were not made to feel you are less than. But one easy trap we all fall into is comparison or envy, SO WHAT IS THE REMEDY for comparison and envy? Appreciation and contentment. Well if comparison says to be like everyone else but better. Acceptance of exactly who I am says, the world will be better when I use the gifts that I have been given because no one has the same gifts I can uniquely offer the world. Not made to fit but live on purpose with kindness and inner shine. BOB GOFF SAYS We won't be distracted by comparison if we are captivated by purpose. How to Find Joy By Stop Comparing: ReIdentify and embrace your purpose. Thank Jesus for being born for you. Notice the blessings that come with your purpose. See them. Be grateful. Resubmit yourself to God to see your purpose. To fix your eyes on him. Stop focusing on the next dream. The dream someone else has realized. And write down three answered prayers. Dreams come true. Walk around your home. Pray over it. And thank God for all parts of it. With the Christmas lights on. Look around it. When you begin to compare, pray for that person and thank God for their unique person then come back to yourself. Remind yourself that they have their own issues. Their own struggles. Pray that they have...
