She chats about her new book, The Song of Sourwood Mountain. We talked about how she gets to know her characters, why there is so much Appalachian fiction, and what her church means to her. Patrons hear about her writing space and her blackberry picking. The Song of Sourwood Mountain by Ann GabhartWhile the century began with such promise, it is 1910 when Mira Dean's hopes of being a wife and mother are dashed to pieces. Her fiancé dead from tuberculosis, Mira resigns herself to being a spinster schoolteacher--until Gordon Covington shows up. No longer the boy she knew from school, Gordon is now a preacher who is full of surprises. First, he asks Mira to come to Sourwood in eastern Kentucky to teach at his mission school. Second, he asks her to marry him. Just like that. And all at once the doors that had seemed firmly shut begin to open, just a crack. With much trepidation, Mira steps out in faith into a life she never imagined, in a place filled with its own special challenges, to serve a people who will end up becoming the family she always dreamed of. From the pen of bestselling author Ann Gabhart comes a heartwarming story of the unexpected blessings that can come when we dare to follow the Lord's leading.Get your copy of The Song of Sourwood Mountain.Hi, glad you could stop by to get to know me better. I'm a country girl, born and raised on a farm in the Outer Bluegrass region of Kentucky. I know you're thinking horse farm, but no, not out my way. Mostly cows on the farms around here. My grandfather did have a big old workhorse when I was a little girl. My family grew tobacco and corn. We had a few milk cows, some hogs and sheep, but mostly beef cattle. I grew up working on the farm and enjoying the woods and animals. My roots go deep in the land, and I now live on a farm just a mile away from the farmhouse where I was born and raised.I started writing when I was ten and have been writing ever since. My first published writings (personal experience pieces, youth stories, and poems) were in church periodicals like Home Life. My first novel, A Forbidden Yearning, a historical romance about the settling of Kentucky, was published by Warner Books in 1978. Since then I've published over thirty other novels for adults and young adults. .My husband and I were both very young when we married, but we defied the odds and are still married all these years later. That could be because we went to church together and were committed to the Christian life. We are blessed with three wonderful children who picked some great people to marry and now we have nine amazing grandchildren I spoil every chance I get. And I do love to write in my office with big windows all around. Writing is what I've always wanted to do. The desire of my heart is to tell stories to readers like you. Thank you for reading!Visit Ann's website.

Her career in the music industry spans over 40 years, beginning with Allen Klein's company, ABKCO Industries, the firm which managed the Beatles, Apple Corps. Ltd. and the Rolling Stones besides having an extensive music publishing catalogue which included songs by Sam Cooke. In 1970, Lennon and Yoko Ono hired Pang as their personal assistant. She would eventually become their production coordinator -- playing a key role in records by Lennon, Ono and Harry Nilsson. In 1974, Pang was awarded an RIAA Gold Album Award for her work on Lennon's Walls and Bridges, the #1 hit album which included his first and only #1 single in his lifetime, "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night." She can also be heard singing on "#9 Dream," the second single from the album. In the late 1970s working for Island Records, Pang coordinated all activities related to the release of albums by Robert Palmer, Third World, and Bob Marley and the Wailers. By the early 1980s, she was one of the leading professional managers in the music publishing industry, working with several unknown songwriters and successfully obtaining coverage by such artists as Diana Ross, Judas Priest, The Four Tops, Ullanda McCullough and Air Supply.During this period, Pang decided to set the record straight about her relationship with Lennon. Warner Books published her memoir, Loving John, in 1983. The book detailed her liaison and working association with the late Beatle and shed light on his relationships with his first son, Julian, as well as Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison.During the last two decades, Pang has appeared in every major news and magazine publication worldwide (NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post, The Daily News, UK's Mail On Sunday, Vogue online, Germany's Die Seite Drei, Marie Claire, People, etc.) and has been a guest on such national TV shows as Good Morning America, Howard Stern, Good Morning LA, CBS Sunday Morning, Court TV and Entertainment Tonight.Pang has also designed a unique collection of stainless steel Feng Shui jewelry and accent furniture. She has a weekly internet radio show with co-host Cynthia Neilson called Dinner Specials on BlogTalkRadio. Com. Pang continues her consulting work on music for films and is still an advisory board member of Women In Music. She also serves as an advisory board member, along with Julian Lennon, Jeff Bridges to name a few at the Amazon Conservation Team (ACT) organization. ACT deals with saving the rainforest and its indigenous people. This was started by world known ethnobotanist Dr. Mark J. Plotkin and conservationist Liliana Madrigal. In 2008, St. Martin's Press released Instamatic Karma, a collection of Pang's personal photographs of John Lennon. Fine art prints of these portraits have been exhibited in major galleries across the country. Also in the Fall of 2014, she released a book only for the German market called John Lennon & May Pang, Another Love. She had received numerous press coverage in some of Germany's largest newspaper publications.Pang has lectured and given talks at various events across the country including public libraries and most recently at Berklee College of Music in Boston sponsored in part by theLiberal Arts Dept. While there, she also lectured the John Lennon Songwriting class. She also gave a talk at The Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp in Las Vegas as a Special Guest Speaker. She has also been asked to be a guest speaker along with guests Donovan, Peter Asher, Pattie Boyd and others at The International Beatles Week 2015 in Liverpool this coming August. In this age of “social awareness”, Pang was asked to participate as an artist on a CD called: ALL ABOUT BULLIES…BIG AND SMALL. The CD won a Grammy for The Best Children's CD category in 2012.John Lennon: The Lost Weekend- Living, Loving and Making Rock & RollShe shared his life, his music and his love. She was his intimate companion during the time known as- THE LOST WEEKEND.May Pang was twenty-two. She was John and Yoko's personal assistant, a trusted member of their inner circle of carefully chosen friends and associates. She budgeted and contracted for their albums and became an invaluable part of their creative and personal lives. When John and Yoko separated, May was enlisted to care for John as he embarked on a period known as "The Lost Weekend" – an intense period of enormous creativity and violent self-destructiveness. She lived, worked, and fell deeply in love with Lennon.Together they shared a rocky romance, with Yoko waiting in the wings for John's return. This is her record of that time, a time when John was recording, seeing friends, exploring the world and confronting his own inner demons. It is a personal account written of life with Lennon by a woman who loved and was loved by one of the most fascinating creative men of our time. MEET THE AUTHOR Podcast: LIVE - Episode 118 - JO ALLEN ASHOriginally Aired Wednesday August 23,2023Featuring Author JO ALLEN ASH.ABOUT JO ALLEN: I have been traditionally and self-published with books released by the former Warner Books, Kensington, and indie companies under my own name and pseudonyms. Once and Always (written as Alyssa Deane), was translated and sold in various European countries. I self-publish the Connor Falls Christmas series as Robin Maderich, but I have always wanted to return to writing for the young adult reader. Perhaps this is why The Shadows We Make, penned as Jo Allen Ash and my debut as a YA author, is the accomplishment about which I am most excited. The Shadows We Make is a young adult tale of dystopian sci-fi/fantasy filled with complex and compelling characters. In The Shadows We Make, I burrow down into dark themes such as addiction, hopelessness and loss, countered by the strength and unexpected sweetness of forged friendships. The next book in the planned series, The Thrice-Gifted Child, continues where The Shadows We Make leaves off, with the same cast of characters and a few more besides. Join us as she discusses her new release.Link to all episodes at: www.IndieBookSource.com

She's always such a pleasure to have on the show, and we had a wonderful talk about her new book, In the Shadow of the River. We chatted about what life was like aboard a showboat, how you can combine faith, fun, and mystery, how much Ann loves her life on a Kentucky farm, and how publishing has changed since her first book released in 1978. Patrons get to hear about how this sweet Southern lady became a rabid fan of University of Kentucky basketball. In the Shadow of the River by Ann GabhartIf all the world's a stage, Jacci will play her part. She only hopes her story does not turn out to be a tragedy. In 1881, Jacci Reed is only five years old when a man attempts to kidnap her from the steamboat her mother, Irena, works on. Badly wounded during the confrontation, Irena takes Jacci aboard the Kingston Floating Palace, a showboat tied up beside them. There, Jacci's actor grandfather tends to her mother and Jacci gets a first taste of the life she will come to lead.Fifteen years later, Jacci is an actress aboard the Kingston Floating Palace, and largely contented with her adopted family of actors, singers, and dancers. Especially Gabe, who has always supported her, and the gruff grandfather she has come to know and love. Jacci's mother has been gone for years, but the memory of the altercation that ultimately took her life--and the cryptic things Jacci has overheard about her past--is always there, lurking in the back of her mind. When someone on the showboat tries to kill Jacci, it's clear her questions demand answers. But secrets have a way of staying in the shadows, and the answers she craves will not come easily. My roots go deep in the land, and I now live on a farm just a mile away from where I was born and raised.I started writing when I was ten and have been writing ever since. My first novel, A Forbidden Yearning, a historical romance about the settling of Kentucky, was published by Warner Books in 1978. Since then I've published over thirty other novels for adults and young adults. My husband and I were both very young when we married, but we defied the odds and are still married all these years later. That could be because we went to church together and were committed to the Christian life. We are blessed with three wonderful children who picked some great people to marry and now we have nine amazing grandchildren I spoil every chance I get. I've been going to the same small country church since I was seventeen and I used my memories of how the church used to be in my Heart of Hollyhill books. My church was established in 1812 and it's inspiring to think about all the people who have served the Lord there. And I do love to write in my office with big windows all around. Writing is what I've always wanted to do. The desire of my heart is to tell stories to readers like you. Thank you for reading!Visit Ann Gabhart's website.

Robinson, Murdoch Distinguished Policy Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Host of Uncommon Knowledge (https://www.hoover.org/publications/uncommon-knowledge)™ — Hoover's Video Series Program and Former Special Assistant and Speechwriter to President Ronald Reagan. Peter Robinson is the Murdoch Distinguished Policy Fellow at the Hoover Institution, where he writes about business and politics, edits Hoover's quarterly journal, the Hoover Digest (https://www.hoover.org/publications/hoover-digest), and hosts Hoover's video series program, Uncommon Knowledge (https://www.hoover.org/publications/uncommon-knowledge)™. Robinson spent six years in the White House, serving from 1982 to 1983 as chief speechwriter to Vice President George Bush and from 1983 to 1988 as special assistant and speechwriter to President Ronald Reagan. He wrote the historic Berlin Wall address in which President Reagan called on General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall!" The conversation will begin by focusing on the 33rd anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. On November 9, 1989, five days after a major peaceful protest in East Berlin which gathered half a million people, the communist rulers gave permission for gates along the Berlin Wall to be opened. The fall of Communist Eastern Europe was hastened by the principled leadership of President Ronald Reagan joined by then-UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Pope John Paul II, Germany's Helmut Kohl, Vaclav Havel, leaders within Poland, and other countries in the Soviet block yearning for freedom. The historic day reminded the world of a speech that was delivered on June 12, 1987 by President Ronald Reagan when he shared these words (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX00QkvK-mQ&feature=youtu.be): "_Behind me stands a wall that encircles the free sectors of this city, part of a vast system of barriers that divides the entire continent of Europe. . . . Standing before the Brandenburg Gate, every man is a German, separated from his fellow men. Every man is a Berliner, forced to look upon a scar. . . . As long as this gate is closed, as long as this scar of a wall is permitted to stand, it is not the German question alone that remains open, but the question of freedom for all mankind. . . . General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!_" —Ronald Reagan, address at the Brandenburg Gate, June 12, 1987 Topics covered on America's Roundtable (https://americasrt.com/): — Reflecting on the 33rd Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. — President Ronald Reagan's principled leadership and his clear articulation of moral clarity based on timeless principles and values. —Peter Robinson shares the real story behind the speech in Berlin, how the message captured the realities on the ground during the Cold War, and the opposition by advisors opposing Reagan's challenge to Gorbachev. — The Unfinished Work in advancing freedom and the rule of law in Eastern Europe. — Brief observations of the US midterm elections and public policies in America. Want to find yourself again after divorce? Go Here: https://thedivorcerehab.com/finding-yourself-after-divorce Going back to the dating scene was terrifying for author Laura Williams. After a sudden divorce from a 27-year marriage, she had two paths: completely retreat for protection OR find something interesting with the risk of rejection. Being unhappy wasn't a choice. She says, “When I hear people are scared to get out there, I think, ‘Isn't it scarier to stay where you are?'” You, too, can make the same decision. Are you ready? Tune in to this episode on Dating In Your Midlife After Divorce with Laura Williams. Key points covered in this episode:   ✔️You need external feedback, not validation. Dating different people can help you know more about your strengths and weaknesses. We are our own worst critics of our bodies. But what we dislike is actually attractive in another's eyes. ✔️Sex is self-expression, not an act of service. You have the choice to partake in the experiences and be involved with the people you want. Take the shame away from enjoying sex without commitment. Reclaim your power.  ✔️Have space for your children's feelings.  Their reactions to your dating escapades may be celebrating with you or having difficulties processing the change. Validate their internal struggles. Get into honest conversations with them. ✔️Being a loyal mother is an asset. Some men find a woman's dedication and loyalty to her children attractive. If he doesn't like it when you drop dates to be with your kids, he's not the one. Men who want to be with you DO exist! ✔️Be honest with what you've lost, and embrace what you've gained. Divorce and dating don't make you less of a mother. It actually makes you more of it! Your kids want more quality time, heart-to-heart talks, and meaningful experiences.   ✔️Be in it to find it. Dating post-divorce is like jumping into cold water. The only way to do it is to actually do it! You CAN have a supportive and loving partner. You CAN have a fulfilling relationship on your own terms. Trust the process. Laura Friedman Williams is a native New Yorker whose writing credits consist of countless PTA newsletters, program notes for talent shows and school auctions, and ghostwritten bar mitzvah speeches for many of her friends. Her wit and wisdom have not yet made it to a larger audience, but her years spent raising children and running events at her children's schools have kept her writing steady and sharp. She credits her degree in English from Washington University and the ten formative years she spent in book publishing – first in Subsidiary Rights at Warner Books (now Grand Central Publishing) and then at Henry Holt & Company, then as a book scout and finally as a literary agent – for giving her a deep love and respect for the written word. She credits the break-up of her marriage for finally giving her the subject matter about which she both needed and wanted to write. She lives in downtown Manhattan with her three children. ______________________________________________________________ Connect with Wendy Sterling: Website: https://wendysterling.net/ Instagram: @divorcerehabwithwendy Twitter: @thedivorcerehab Facebook: @wendytsterling  Need an opportunity to share your pain points and receive judgment-free support? The Fake Ass Book Club is back this week to review "Dawn" by Octavia Butler! Octavia Butler was an American science fiction writer, one of the best known among the few African-American women in the field. In her book, "humanity is decimated, and Earth has been all but destroyed by nuclear war. A black American woman, Lilith Iyapo, awakes among frightening aliens called “Oankali,” who offer humanity a devil's bargain: they will “save” humanity from extinction by taking human DNA, blending it with their own, and creating a stronger hybrid species. Lilith, the main charter, immediately becomes afraid that they will rape her, or remove her eggs without her permission, but they assure her, “No Oankali will touch you without your consent.” However, “consent” becomes an increasingly muddied concept as the novel goes on." (https://blog.pshares.org/rape-and-the-ravages-of-colonialism-in-octavia-spencers-dawn/). As the ladies navigate this story of survival and humanity's seemingly inevitable evolution, they have so many questions. If human evolution was dependent on their willingness to merge DNA with aliens, would you do it to survive? Would staying 100% human be that important? Would our humanity be compromised? While noting the similarities between colonialism and Oankali's quest to assimilate humans to a new way of life, Moni and Kat ponder how they would handle an alien invasion. Tune in to hear what they had to say!! (As always, this episode contains spoilers!) Gabhart back to the podcast. She was here last year to talk about her book Along a Storied Trail. Now she's out with a new book, and always the gracious guest, she is joining us again to talk about her latest release, a truly beautiful story, Christian historical romance at its best. When the Meadow Blooms by Ann GabhartIf any place on God's earth was designed to help one heal, it is Meadowland. Surely here, at her brother-in-law's Kentucky farm, Rose and her daughters can recover from the events of the recent past--the loss of her husband during the 1918 influenza epidemic, her struggle with tuberculosis that required a stay at a sanatorium, and her girls' experience in an orphanage during her illness. At Meadowland, hope blooms as their past troubles become rich soil in which their faith can grow.Dirk Meadows may have opened his home to his late brother's widow and her girls, but he keeps his heart tightly closed. The roots of his pain run deep, and the evidence of it is written across his face. Badly scarred by a fire and abandoned by the woman he loved, Dirk fiercely guards his heart from being hurt again. But it may be that his visitors will bring light back into his world and unlock the secret to true healing.Bestselling author Ann H. Gabhart explores the tender places within the human heart in this character-driven story of trusting God to turn our burdens into something beautiful.Get your copy of When the Meadow Blooms.Get to know Ann Gabhart."Hi, glad you could stop by to get to know me better. My first published writings (personal experience pieces, youth stories, and poems) were in church periodicals. Thank you for reading!"Visit Ann Gabhart's website.

Well she's back and better than ever althought the last year has had some highs and lows as she has navigated the finalization of her divorce, the moving out of the marital home and the purchase and renovation of her very own new home.  In her unique and special way, Laura shares an update on her personal journey that is, as always, deeply personal and revealing.  You will find much to relate to, laugh about and cry too as we catch up with Laura today as the book officially launches in the United States.  Tune in and find out why after all she has been through, Laura says she feels today "that anything is possible." Her wit and wisdom have not yet made it to a larger audience, but her years spent raising children and running events at her children's schools have kept her writing steady and sharp. Tom welcomes Gerald Celente Trends Forecaster and Founder of the Trends Reach Institute back to the show. Gerald lays out how he truly feels about the pandemic and the resulting actions of governments around the world. One country after another is acting in lockstep attempting to 'flatten the curve' by locking you down and putting you out of business. Then the vaccines came but largely seemed to do worse than nothing. We adopted the Chinese way of taking away freedoms. The repo markets showed just how rigged the markets are and we've seen the massive amounts pumped into the system. He says, "When all else fails they take you to war." The inflation calculations are all fake and currently very understated. They've rigged the game because the social security numbers are based on these figures. Keeping the 'numbers' low also helps keep rates low so the banks can continue their activity. Our freedoms are being robbed from us. Gerald believes inflation will continue to get worse in part due to what has happened in Ukraine. Inflation has gone from temporary to transitory to something else. They are keeping the game going because they know if they stop the monetary methadone the system will crash. We have a crime syndicate running the West. He says, "Banksters, big tech, and drug dealers with big pharma are in control of a country near you." They are going to have to raise interest rates but he expects only a mild decline in housing prices. Housing will likely be held up by the high inflation. He describes the downtown commercial core of New York as almost dead at night. "Now you can park anywhere you want at any time of day." The mainstream media lies about everything and we've seen that numerous times during the conflict. They're called presstitutes for a reason. These 'journalists' are being paid to spew their master's narratives. NATO broke its promise to not move eastwards and now we see the results. He is totally opposed to the invasion but he understands why Russia did it. There isn't enough talk about peace instead we're sending lethal weapons around the world. Lastly, for Gerald wealth protection means gold, silver, and bitcoin in that order. He discusses the importance of being prepared and having a bug-out plan. The Good Sonby Jacquelyn Mitchard Published January 18th 2022 by MIRAWhat do you do when the person you love best becomes unrecognizable to you? For Thea Demetriou, the answer is both simple and agonizing: you keep loving him somehow.Stefan was just seventeen when he went to prison for the drug-fueled murder of his girlfriend, Belinda. Three years later, he's released to a world that refuses to let him move on. Belinda's mother, once Thea's good friend, galvanizes the community to rally against him to protest in her daughter's memory. The media paints Stefan as a symbol of white privilege and indifferent justice. Neighbors, employers, even some members of Thea's own family turn away.Meanwhile Thea struggles to understand her son. At times, he is still the sweet boy he has always been; at others, he is a young man tormented by guilt and almost broken by his time in prison. But as his efforts to make amends meet escalating resistance and threats, Thea suspects more forces are at play than just community outrage. And if there is so much she never knew about her own son, what other secrets has she yet to uncover—especially about the night Belinda died?Jacquelyn Mitchard's first novel, The Deep End of the Ocean, was named by USA Today as one of the ten most influential books of the past 25 years – second only to the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (but second by a long shot, it must be said.)The Deep End of the Ocean was chosen as the first novel in the book club made famous by the TV host Oprah Winfrey, and transformed into a feature film produced by and starring Michelle Pfeiffer. All of Mitchard's novels have been greater or lesser bestsellers – and include The Most Wanted, A Theory of Relativity, Twelve Times Blessed, The Breakdown Lane and Cage of Stars. Critics have praised them for their authentic humanity and skilful command of story. Readers identify because they see reflected, in her characters – however extreme their circumstances – emotions they already understand.Mitchard's first story of adventure and her eighth novel of realistic contemporary fiction is Still Summer (August, 2007). In the same month, the paperback version of her most critically acclaimed novel, Cage of Stars (August 2007), appears from Warner Books.Mitchard also has embarked on four novels for young adults.
