Now, I know depending on who you are, that might sound out of this world. But, bear with me.Disclaimer: If this is your first time taking action on your social anxiety or do not have an actionable recovery plan. I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND starting off with this as your first step. Why? Doing this is difficult. On my journey recovering from social anxiety I accidentally created what some would call an ‘alter ego' to help myself in difficult situations and to grow long-term.One of the biggest problems with growth, in general, is your ego. It stops you from truly developing and growing into the person you know you could be.In this method, what we're doing is fighting the ego with an alter-ego.By creating a concept which many call the alternate-ego.The most well-known case of this is Batman & Bruce Wayne. Believe it or not, they've even done studies to measure how effective an alter-ego is and have shown increased concentration, decreased stress, and improvement of executive function. We will cover how you can create your own version of this and begin to utilize this method to start to become and act in accordance with who you really are…PS. Not being able to focus is often the gateway drug to anxiety. If you're anything like me, and many others who face anxiety you might've suffered from severe problems with focus…Each day at school or work would be a mental dance in my head where I would try my best to genuinely care and pay attention, but without me even knowing or realizing it all of a sudden I would drift off!As I would lose my focus, I would get even more nervous because I wasn't aware of what was happening in the conversation or the social situation. I would try to focus but by then it would be too late. So I'd rather not say anything, which perpetuates the cycle of social anxiety even more. The next day, the same thing would happen again and again.I justified this by self-diagnosing myself with ADHD and thinking oh this is just who I am. Wow I guess I just can't focus as good as everyone else for some reason. What I learned is that your attention and ability to focus is not an innate ability. It's a programmable muscle that must be built. It's important to work on this muscle because if you can't harness your attention in interactions with people your focus will go all over the place and usually default to paying attention about the signs of anxiety and what you DON'T want to happen. So, how do you program your attention muscle? In this episode I will lay out three different ways to build this muscle!PS. This can actually be completely false. Having a big ego means you think you're always right. Having a big ego means you think the world is to blame. Having a big ego means you think everything else has to change, but not you. Having a big ego means you're always thinking about yourself, yourself, and yourself again, positive or negative.I'm not writing this article to insult you or even call you out. Making it go from just an idea or thought in your head to control your emotions, mood, neurotransmitters, and even changing behavior at a biochemical level. If you want to change your biochemistry, you must change your lifestyle.Going outside for walks, changing your diet, exercising regularly, sleeping like a boss, learning how to mindfully meditate, practice breathwork, and much more. However, these simple tasks might seem impossible for you to do daily. Why?Because you haven't experienced the result yet.Why work hard and do things differently, which is very hard especially for your brain when you don't know the reward?I bet a part of you even thinks what you're doing isn't even possible and is just a waste of time or someone else is going to sell you a program that won't work for you.You need a purpose to push you forward. We will lay out how to begin to find your purpose for anxiety recovery…- Quickly Apply for 1 on 1 Coaching: https://bit.ly/2Pslqd0*************************Check out my step by step, day by day, 45-day 9-week affordable online course to rewire your mind and transform social anxiety - markmetry.com/program

“Just do it”“Just be confident”“Just talk to them” “Just be yourself”By far the biggest mistake people make is going 1 v 1 against social anxiety without any tools or reinforcements other than just forcing it with the phrases above. When I was in college, I was in the same situation…I would try to walk up to someone sitting alone in the cafeteria or library and force myself to try and talk to them. Almost every single time I would muster up the courage… I felt a part of my brain, my nervous system would hold me back no matter what I tried to do. No matter what I did I couldn't be myself in front of someone else. I had mostly avoided these feelings my whole life by staying small, shy, and quiet, but no more. I had gotten sick and tired of being sick and tired. But now, I had finally taken a shot to get out of my comfort zone but I still failed :/ This led me down the thought pattern of no matter what I do I'm screwed. No matter how much effort I put in, there's nothing I can do to change how I act and my lack of confidence and I'm going to be stuck like this forever! Keep your head in the game and stick to a long-term strategy in mind and paper. It's easy to shame yourself for not doing what you said you were going to do. But it's normal to struggle with keeping up habits due to something called the homeostatic impulse. Your brain is conditioned to not like change. So it actively tries to reverse the change. This is human nature.Whether it's eating healthy or exercising regularly…Why shame yourself for doing what a human is evolutionarily supposed to do?Even worse, when you shame yourself, you release a powerful cocktail of emotions that drug you into being upset, sad, hopeless, probably emotions you've felt your entire life. So your brain says - see? Don't change it's better. These emotions activate when you shame yourself, repeating the cycle of inaction and repeats the same thing to your nervous system. This cycle keeps people down forever. Join me in today's episode with Andrew Reiner, Author of "Better Boy, Better Men" on a discussion about a new kind of masculinity that doesn't hurt or force men to "be a man" and suppress emotions and put on a stoic mask and how parents can help shy kids and teenagers. In Better Boys, Better Men, cultural critic and New York Times contributor Andrew Reiner argues that men today are working on an outdated model of masculinity, which prevents them in moments of distress and vulnerability from marshalling the courage, strength, and resiliency—the very characteristics we regularly champion in men—they need to thrive in a world vastly different from the ones their fathers and grandfathers grew up in. According to Reiner, this outdated model of manhood can have devastating effects on the entire culture and, especially boys and men, from falling behind in the classroom and rising male unemployment rates to increased levels of depression and disturbing upticks in violence on a mass scale. Reiner interviews boys and men of all ages, educators, counselors, therapists, and physicians throughout the United States to better understand what factors are preventing the country's boys and men from developing the emotional resiliency they need. He also introduces readers to the boys and men at the vanguard of a new masculinity that empowers them to find and express the full range of their humanity. - Grab Andrew's Book: https://www.amazon.com/Better-Boys-Men-Masculinity-Resiliency-ebook/dp/B07X8HR3KF*************************Check out my step by step, day by day, 45-day 9-week affordable online course to rewire your mind and transform social anxiety - markmetry.com/program

Mindset is defined from the Oxford English Dictionary as “a set of attitudes or fixed ideas that somebody has and that are often difficult to change.”Of course, your mindset is very important. If you don't believe something can happen, it probably won't happen. But also thinking something is going to happen just because you set your mind to it, or sending just “positive vibes” or best wishes could also be considered delusional and impractical in the long run.The truth is our mindset is just one layer. If you want to learn how to manage social anxiety, it requires more than that...*************************Check out my step by step, day by day, 45-day 9-week affordable online course to rewire your mind and transform social anxiety - markmetry.com/program

One of the byproducts of facing social anxiety is hiding everything from everyone. Looking back at my own life, I didn't tell anybody about what I was doing. I was trying to hide the good and the bad from everyone. Hiding from my friends, family, online, and the world because I felt as if I wasn't good enough to share. On top of that, I was afraid of people's opinions and afraid of how they would be used against me to instill doubts, hiding and holding everything as a secret is a defensive mechanism. *************************Check out my self-paced online anonymous affordable course. Hundreds of people have already taken it with amazing results. What I learned is when you hide from other people, most times you hide it from yourself too. Something happens in life that you don't know how to handle, so you take it and throw it to the back of your mind and lock it in a black box of shame. While this may be an effective short-term solution, oftentimes what you will find is that 10 years later that same issue you thought you hid is now controlling your behavior in what seems like a totally separate environment. Trying to hide everything in your life creates the ultimate breeding ground for shame to build up. Living a hidden shameful life leads someone to have no confidence, bad self-esteem, and in turn developing poor mental health and bad unhealthy habits.Read the rest of the show notes: https://markmetry.substack.com/p/youre-not-gonna-believe-me- Subscribe to my FREE Newsletter: https://bit.ly/3eANWld- Read or Listen to my book Screw Being Shy: https://bit.ly/2PqV2QI- Quickly Apply for 1 on 1 Coaching: https://bit.ly/2Pslqd0- Sign up for my affordable online course: https://www.markmetry.com/program~~~CONNECT w/ MARK~~~- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-metry/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markmetry- Twitter: https://twitter.com/markymetry- Website: https://www.markmetry.com/- Email: markmetry722@gmail.com

Myths, and misconceptions are what continue to prop up false illusions in our mind. Our brain hears or even creates a misconception to disresgard you, hurt you, and prevent you from making any necessary healthy changes.Below are 8 of my favorite myths I hear echoed around me daily…PS. Before we begin! I wanted to highlight my affordable online course I've created to help people kick anxiety realistically, check it out here - markmetry.com/program1. Got mental health problems? Oh it means you don't have a connection to God or your family doesn't love you. As someone who grew up in a christian household, I can't tell you how often this was echoed around me. Just pray to God until your problems go away, and if you still have anxiety it means you don't have a connection to God and you just need to go to Church again and again.I obviously have no problem whatsoever with church or God or praying, and in fact it can be helpful but it's not a silver bullet. This is like telling someone hey instead of wearing a seatbelt, refrain from drinking alcohol, to drive safely, just close your eyes and pray and hope nothing else happens. Nothing is absolute. Understanding there is something bigger than yourself, having faith, can be very helpful. 2. Only certain people in the world experience mental health issues…False. If you have a physical body, you have physical health, if you have a brain, you have mental health.Often times people who make this claim actually suffer from mental health issues unknowingly. Drinking everyday, anger spurts, trying to surpress your voice and memories are all more subtle common signs of underlying mind and brain health problems. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health providers with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition. Please note: this is just my personal story. Don't take it as advice, make your own educated decisions about your life alongside professionals & experts. In 2015 I was so depressed, socially anxious, and really at rock bottom. I had no idea what to do in my life. I felt stuck, trapped in darkness and it felt like I was withering away.I went to my College campus health center and told them what was going on…It wasn't 10 minutes before a Doctor prescribed me medication.I went home and googled the medication and found a long list of side effects, one of them included being suicidal and more anxiety, which didn't make any sense.I didn't take the medication and began searching frantically for alternative solutions. While this viewpoint may be considered taboo, I have absolutely nothing against medications. Other than the fact that it's often claimed as the only solution. What I've learned is medication can be used as a temporary crutch. When you go to a doctor and break your leg, he or she doesn't just send you out on your way. They give you crutches to help bridge your recovery. Medication works the same way.Sometimes your brain is so hurt and inflamed you literally can't do anything because of it. Giving you a chemical temporary crutch can actually really help depending on the person. In fact, I have seen miracles occur with medication all the time. I also sometimes see adverse effects. Unfortunately. It's not effort or power of will...*** Learn more about the Screw Being Shy 45 Day Step by Step Affordable Program to Stop Shyness, Eliminate Social Anxiety, and Rewire your Mind: https://www.markmetry.com/program ***It's not because they are dumb. It's not because they aren't hardworking. It's not because they aren't talented. It's not because they don't want it bad enough. It's because social anxiety is designed to be a prison, that your mind created, from your past, to restrict you from being your real self, even when that's what you want to do, that automatically runs without you thinking about it 24/7.And so the average person facing this issue:prepares before a social event by practicing what to say.trying to imagine being confident.trying to hide it from everyone and faking it.replaying social scenarios in your head.trying to smile and look confident. And then you go….And then literally the same exact thing that has always happened, happens again, regardless of what you are trying to think or do differently. The reason why most people with social anxiety never escape is because it's not common sense, it's not intuitive, it's not even about your thoughts or emotions. It's your brain & nervous system that enter Flight & Fight and force you to be a fake version of yourself regardless of your mindset or what you told yourself in the mirror.Sound familiar? This was me for 10 years of my life.Everytime that happened….I would go home depressed. Hopeless thinking that no matter what I try to do, nothing will help me no matter what. This is a quick route to a miserable and mentally unhealthy life that will continue to drag you down again and again. This is why Harvard's Meta-Analysis study showed people with social anxiety face the highest rates of substance abuse, social isolation and suicide.Which is exactly where I found myself and after years and years and years of experimenting, trying every day, learning from neuroscientists & psychologists..I found a solution. It's not even going to cost you over $100, I've made it affordable. It's not a cure that will work in 10 days, although it's a 45 day program. It's a system that shows you day by day, step by step, what to do, how to do it, why you should do it, and then lets you interact and find your own personal answers. It's my best attempt at what I wish I had when I was in your position, unable to be myself, lacking confidence, and just felt like my mind was suffering including my mental health.Read the rest of the show notes: https://markmetry.substack.com/p/1-reason-why-most-never-stop-being- Subscribe to my FREE Newsletter: https://bit.ly/3eANWld- Read or Listen to my book Screw Being Shy: https://bit.ly/2PqV2QI- Quickly Apply for 1 on 1 Coaching: https://bit.ly/2Pslqd0~~~CONNECT w/ MARK~~~- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-metry/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markmetry- Twitter: https://twitter.com/markymetry- Website: https://www.markmetry.com/- Email: markmetry722@gmail.com

I remember in 2016 when I first started my journey, this is mainly what I was reading. At that time my only measure of a happy and successful life was based on how good I felt after a productivity session of me grinding myself away at my keyboard & screen for hours. And then I looked back at my past and realized…I've actually been “productive” for most of my life. But maybe similar to you, I just pieced it and figured it out together as I went along every day.Taking strands of anxiety, too much coffee, too much stress combining them together into a moshpit of a familiar feeling I love and hate called “oh I was productive today.”Here are 4 main concepts that have helped me be not just productive but also not let my anxiety come to the party too…Read the rest of the show notes: https://markmetry.substack.com/p/how-to-be-productive-amidst-anxiety*** Learn more about the Screw Being Shy 45 Day Step by Step Affordable Program to Stop Shyness, Eliminate Social Anxiety, and Rewire your Mind: https://www.markmetry.com/program ***- Subscribe to my FREE Newsletter: https://bit.ly/3eANWld- Read or Listen to my book Screw Being Shy: https://bit.ly/2PqV2QI- Quickly Apply for 1 on 1 Coaching: https://bit.ly/2Pslqd0~~~CONNECT w/ MARK~~~- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-metry/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markmetry- Twitter: https://twitter.com/markymetry- Website: https://www.markmetry.com/- Email: markmetry722@gmail.com

*** Learn more about the Screw Being Shy 45 Day Step by Step Affordable Program to Stop Shyness, Eliminate Social Anxiety, and Rewire your Mind: https://bit.ly/3jM7ZBc ***For most of my life, I was told by the world I was a shy and quiet introvert. It turns out I had social anxiety, which is one of the most common mental health issues in America that leads to substance abuse, social isolation, and suicide.Society says the kid or person sitting alone at the library or cafeteria is doing so, because he or she is an introvert, and they like their solitude. That could be the case, and there's nothing wrong with being an introvert…But that person could also be sitting alone even though they want be social but, their brain doesn't let them talk to others, aka social anxiety. The worst part about this is there's enough stigma on mental health in the first place. When it comes to seeing a doctor, therapist, or maybe even calling the suicide hotline, those with social anxiety are plagued the most and usually can't ask for help.Let's make one thing clear off the bat. I am not denying introversion or perhaps the fact that you may or may not be an introvert. Before 2016 I had never thought of meditating. I didn't know much about it and sort of guessed it was for hippies or some ultra-religious tradition for monks, and not for a normal guy like me.Sponsored by Acerting Art - Helping you with Anxiety & Sleep:- https://www.youtube.com/c/acertingart- https://open.spotify.com/artist/4zGczHsSZktkXqswBFhz1DIt wasn't until I experienced a dark period in 2015 with my mental health that forced me to deal with this and find new tools for my problems. Alongside reading books, eating healthy, and sleeping well, I was led to meditation.Meditation isn't actually about calming yourself down. From an outsider's perspective meditation seems like a peaceful practice where you float up in the clouds and melt all your stress. While there may be meditations that teach this, it's important to not build the expectation of having this experience every time. Meditation is actually about rewiring your brain, emotional connections, and free up space in your mind to effectively live in the present moment.Read the rest of the show notes: https://markmetry.substack.com/p/how-meditating-for-1500-days-rewired- Read or Listen to my book Screw Being Shy: https://bit.ly/2PqV2QI- Subscribe to my FREE Newsletter: https://bit.ly/3eANWld- Apply for 1 on 1 Coaching: https://bit.ly/2Pslqd0~~~CONNECT w/ MARK~~~- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-metry/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markmetry- Twitter: https://twitter.com/markymetry- Website: https://www.markmetry.com/- Email: markmetry722@gmail.com

People who tell you how to act and who to be as if you’re an actor reading a movie script. They’re not the directors of your Life story.... Unless you let them. You will meet some people in life who derive their power from controlling others. Whether it was that 4th-grade teacher who always seemed to start a mental world war 3 over whether Jeffrey spilled his milk on the ground on Thursday. Or, maybe a parent, or a past friend of yours, or an old toxic boss or colleague who got on your nerves. It’s one thing to advise or recommend someone to do something, in a professional setting like your boss or a friendly manner like Hey Mark, here’s a typo in your article, or here’s another analogy or image that would go well here...There are other times where you:- never asked for their opinion.- don’t care about that person’s opinion.- their opinion isn’t about informing or educating, it’s about tearing you down politically in a way they have more power over you. Everyone faces this throughout their lifetime and time again. It seems like the bullies always come back, don’t they? I meet many people on my journey today who say something like:“I could always manage my anxiety and how I showed up in the world for most of my life…and then ________ happened.”Life hits them and beats them down. They feel defeated. Feeling like they have to start from point A, from the beginning of the drawing board, without a clue, again. It turns out that “figuring it out” every day, is sort of like stitching yourself together, while the plane is falling down through the clouds and while more stuff is breaking.A lot of the times you start to realize you actually were never truly confident. You were just making it up and trying to figure out how to get by in each moment. You found a crutch, a source of escape, validation from others, something you could lean in to give you those feelings that you are confident in, especially in front of other people and social scenarios.I’ve read so many articles about how to be confident, and like most things on the internet, many of them are filled with BS.Giving people short-term, shallow, shortcuts, that don’t produce long-term results.Let’s change that and dive into 5 ways to be confident without faking it.Read the rest of the show notes: https://markmetry.substack.com/p/how-to-be-confident-without-faking~~~Helpful Links~~~- Youtube: https://bit.ly/3gDQXUi- Read or Listen to my book Screw Being Shy: https://bit.ly/2PqV2QI- Subscribe to my FREE Newsletter: https://bit.ly/3eANWld- Apply for 1 on 1 Coaching: https://bit.ly/2Pslqd0~~~CONNECT w/ MARK~~~- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-metry/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markmetry- Twitter: https://twitter.com/markymetry- Website: https://www.markmetry.com/- Email: markmetry722@gmail.com

No excuses isn’t a sufficient answer to people facing underlying mental health, chronic stress, and energy issues.I grew up most of my life as what most call an “unmotivated person.”I got bad grades. I graduated at the bottom of my class. I wasn't athletic or socially adept or actionably creative. I didn't “try” and was hardly ambitious or considered successful. Fast forward to a series of life-changing experiences that started in 2015 & 2016. I’m now more motivated than ever in my life! Waking up early in the mornings daily without much pain, accomplishing my habits and goals, and feeling this internal sense of power, vitality, and trust in my abilities in life. This particular sense of energy that implicitly screams “no matter what happens on the outside today, I will have a grounded powerful beautiful happy internal experience of the world.”What I learned is motivation is a multiple-part beast. If you don’t understand this then the concept of motivating yourself becomes either impossible or too audacious of a goal to accomplish or to even try to aim for consistently.Read the rest of the show notes: https://markmetry.substack.com/p/what-to-do-when-you-have-no-motivation~~~Helpful Links~~~- Youtube: https://bit.ly/3gDQXUi- Read or Listen to my book Screw Being Shy: https://bit.ly/2PqV2QI- Subscribe to my FREE Newsletter: https://bit.ly/3eANWld- Apply for 1 on 1 Coaching: https://bit.ly/2Pslqd0~~~CONNECT w/ MARK~~~- LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-metry/- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/markmetry- Twitter: https://twitter.com/markymetry- Website: https://www.markmetry.com/- Email: markmetry722@gmail.com
