An interesting truth about this dream: It was an accident. Until age 33, I was one of those people who said, “I don't have an artistic bone in my body.”Although I've been running an art business for the past 23 years, I've only recently found a path to make a full living from art. I've experimented with many ways to earn money from collage until I finally realized that I wanted to teach others to create what I love, AND how to connect deeply to the art as they make it. With COLLAGE JOY, my first major course, I'm doing exactly that. Now I realize that this is where my winding path has been leading all along. I'm already planning two more courses in the upcoming year, and cutting WAY back on my very part time day gig (just cut back to 2 1/2 days a month) so that I can finally focus on my life's passion full-time. Working with Kellee as my coach is a major part of my long-range plan, and I KNOW that I wouldn't be where I am today without her expert guidance over the past year.Check out Cat's websiteSign up for Cat's newslettersFind Cat on Instagram @catrains.artistJoin Cat's Amazing Free Offer - 5-Day Collage Kickstart Workshop!Tune in to Made Remarkable and uncover the transformative potential that awaits your creative pursuits. Today on Feminine Roadmap Catherine Rains reminds us that there is not timeline, you can achieve dreams at any age. Cat shares her journey, it's different paths and how each part has served its purpose. One of the nuggets of wisdom in this conversation is that it's key to understand the timing of your life and find a deep acceptance of the place you are today. Somewhere we got the idea that there's a timeline that we're not keeping up with, we're ahead or behind it, or we've missed it all together. Cat encourages listeners to erase the idea of some mystical timeline that we're chasing and recognize it's arbitrary, even imagined. Where we find ourselves to day is, in fact, where we are for some purpose and being present to it with acceptance helps to shift the pressure. Life is a journey and there's not just one place to be, there are many stops along the way that vary in length and impact. Our journey is what it is and each day we get to choose what little shifts we want to make. Reinvention isn't one grand sweeping gesture, it's following the little whispers in our spirit that draw our attention to something. In this episode you will find encouragement for where you are and where you dream of going, it's all along the same road because it's your road. Catherine Rains, an award-winning mixed media collage artist and teacher is on the podcast today sharing how we can expand miracles in our lives by living in non resistance to what is. Until age 33, art was not part of Catherine's life plan. In fact, she was one of those people who said “I don't have an artistic bone in my body.” Her unexpected path to art began in the middle of a successful and overwhelming day job. Desperate to relieve stress, she followed a whim to create her first collage, and then created hundreds more as a hobby. Although creatively satisfied, she was still stressed and unhappy professionally. Then one day the phrase – what you resist, persists – popped into her head, and in an instant she knew how to turn her job (and life) around. Three months later, she had not only fallen in love with the day gig she previously hated, but she was offered a dream job when she wasn't even looking. This profound lesson in surrender began her lifelong journey of living in non-resistance to the present moment, eventually leading her to quit corporate security 8 years later to manage a lucrative art business. Catherine's story is one of open-hearted perseverance, transforming “negative” experiences by fully embracing life as it is, no matter what it looks like on the surface. Highlights from this conversation with Catherine: Why what you resist persists. How to expand miracles by living in non resistance to what is. Proof that life is happening for you, not to you, with many real-life examples. Why there is a wall between where you are and where you want to be. Success is actually a successful moment. How to follow the breadcrumbs of messages from your higher self, one step at a time. Trust in the timing of your unfolding. Art is food, soul food, it is important to honor what is important to you. An interview that makes no mention of food – yes, it's true! I interview artist Catherine Rains and I wanted to bring you this interview because I extracted so much wisdom from it. Catherine is an amazing human being who has lots of life lessons that will put food out of a job. At the end of the interview, I discuss two areas relating to compulsive and binge eating that what we talked about #1 – Non-verbalising feelings #2 – the difference in language between us. I referred to the victim, where Catherine talks about ‘the child'. How much of the shamed child lives in you, one who is carrying shame that doesn't belong to her? Highlights “Double-pronged non-resistance”: while continually affirming the job she wanted, she was at the same time embracing the job she had. How to be unintentionally intentional The five words anyone can use in a negative situation to feel more empowered Catherine's epiphany about non resistance The non linear nature of change. How she diverted her energy to sidestep jealousy and intended her way to the job of her dreams Why affirmations don't work for so many people - because they are doing this thing alongside the affirmation Her strategy for releasing fear and dread after her cancer diagnosis (I have never heard this from anyone else) How she developed compassion for her husband in the midst of her divorce but still shielded herself from his manipulation Her hilarious way of managing old resentments RESOURCES Check Catherine out on Instagram: @catrains.artist https://catherinerains.com/ See the Freedom from Sugar course: https://www.theshiftinside.com/freedom/ Find out about one-to-one coaching: https://www.theshiftinside.com/coaching/ Watch the video version of this interview: https://www.theshiftinside.com/catrains/

Being an artist was not part of Catherine's life plan by any stretch of the imagination. Until age 33, she was one of those people who said, "I don't have an artistic bone in my body." (Sound familiar?) In her family of origin, Catherine was viewed as the unartistic one. she was often told she should be a counsellor or teacher, but artist, definitely not! My parents were talented hobby artists Catherine's unexpected path started in the middle of a rewarding-but-very-stressful job as a university career services director, where she was guiding others to find their true callings. Catherine went on to find put she had breast cancer, and get divorced before she still would try art fully and now making it her living! Catherine's Takeaways 1.Work out how to make your day job work around your art and to create 2.Ask yourself, If you could make what you want, what would it be? 3.What's your joy? 4.Work out your finances, can you ask your day job to work 5 days a month 5.theres no pressure in collage 6.Get children to have a go college, lay it all out on a table 7.Build up your new work on line before you launch your collection. 8.Launches add excitement to your new work Connect with Catherine https://catherinerains.com/ Myres Briggs personality test https://www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/mbti-basics/

Goddess of the Week: Catherine Rains https://catherinerains.com/ https://www.instagram.com/catrains.artist/ Catherine Rains is a mixed media collage artist, however until age 33, she often said "I don't have an artistic bone in my body". She discovered her life calling in the middle of an overwhelming day job, where she created her first collage on a whim to relieve stress. This simple beginning eventually led to her quitting her day gig & running a thriving art business for 4 years. Then Catherine's journey took an unexpected left turn. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, which led her back to her day gig. For the next 10 years, Catherine traveled the US, and created almost no art. In 2015, she decided to find a way to integrate the day job she loved with the art she could not live without, and decided to take art on the road with her. Packing two 50-pound suitcases, one full of art supplies, Catherine set up an art studio in every hotel she visited, following a very structured schedule to fit art into EVERY nook and cranny of her life. As a result of this commitment, as well as her philosophy to surrender to wherever she was, her 12 years back on the job finally ended on January 1, 2018, and now Catherine once again claims the title of full time artist and she is creating sacred art to her heart’s content. She was convinced she did not have an artistic bone in her body, but she decided to take on collage as a hobby. “Who can't rip up paper and put it back together!” In 2015, Catherine decided to integrate her job with her art and set up an art studio in every hotel where her job took her, and created a ton of art as she traveled. In January 2018, she returned full time to her greatest passion—ART.

Over this last year, in anticipation of my book publishing later this month, I've appeared on a lot of podcasts as a guest. One of my favorite interviews to be a part of was for the Courage & Clarity podcast, hosted by Steph Crowder. Love her. Well, Steph also released another conversation with someone whose story exemplifies so much of what we talk about here on the show that as I was listening to it, I was thinking, "The Bare Naked Bravery folks need to hear this. Wouldn't it be so cool to get to talk with her?!" Well, fate would have it that I was driving at the time and forgot to write down "Contact Catherine Rains" on my to-do list. But evidently, Catherine was thinking the same thing and contacted US! So you guys, this is gonna be a great story about growing up with a bi-polar parent, quitting your job for art, battling cancer, getting divorced, and then quitting your job again to go back into art full-time. Catherine Rains is the artist behind @TheHotelArtist on Instagram - go check her out, because not only does she have a phenomenal story, but her work is wonderful too. One of the things I love most about Catherine's story is how level-headed she is, which is really a testament to how not-chaotic bravery can sometimes be. I think it's easy to forget that even though you're accomplishing great and wonderful things, that you can still have your wits about you and not lose your sanity. In this episode, you'll hear: How to stop fighting AGAINST your circumstances, and instead learn to work WITH them A few precise mantras to help you stop dwelling in "tomorrow", "what if", "if only" & "someday"How Catherine used this mindset shift to go from hating her job, to loving it so much she cried when her dream job came along How Catherine was able to believe that cancer & divorce were amazing gifts, even as they were happening to her
Catherine Rains is a collage artist and painter. She began making art at 33-years old to help relieve the stress of her full-time job. Over the last two decades, Catherine has built a strong following and an extensive portfolio. Her work has been shown in galleries, art shows, and is in private collections around the country. Here is the story of Catherine’s journey: from making art while working, to becoming a full-time artist, getting breast cancer, divorced, returning back to work, and eventually becoming, once again, a full-time artist. In this interview we talk about: • her daily routine: how she made art every day while working full-time • the 3 core things to focus on when building an art business • the exact phrase Catherine used to manifest her dream job • overcoming breast cancer and divorce while navigating an art career and • the most important strategy for making money when starting out
"The Hotel Artist" Catherine Rains faced a triple-whammy of devastation—breast cancer, a divorce, and being pulled away from her beloved art. We're talking about the mindsets she used to come back from her losses and the inspiration she draws from life's happenings to create beautiful Instagram-famous collage art! Also on the show, I talk about the popular question of dealing with aging parents. And I address the invisible pressure of learning something from your grief. There aren't enough words to describe how excited I am for you all to hear this conversation I'm having with Catherine Rains, also known as The Hotel Artist! Alternate titles for this episode include: "Catherine Rains blows Steph's mind live on the air waves""Stop everything & listen to this" "Don't listen to this if you want to keep making excuses & staying stuck" In seriousness, it feels like I am telling you week after week that another of my "favorite episodes" is being published, which is such a cool feeling. But this episode is truly special. For one, the "Courage" & "Clarity" components are fused together in one jumbo episode because they were too intertwined to separate. Beyond that, Catherine is a captivating, open-book type storyteller who's got a few decades on me. As such, you'll hear her drop so much wisdom on me, I'm doing mental gymnastics live on the air just to keep up. There's so much growth here, so much to think about, and so much easy-to-apply-immediately mindset stuff that you really need to hear. In this episode, you'll hear: How to stop fighting AGAINST your circumstances, and instead learn to work WITH them A few precise mantras to help you stop dwelling in "tomorrow", "what if", "if only" & "someday"How Catherine used this mindset shift to go from hating her job, to loving it so much she cried when her dream job came along How Catherine was able to believe that cancer & divorce were amazing gifts, even as they were happening to herI know there's a lot of "mindset" and "positivity" stuff out there, but this episode resonated with me on a deeper level than many of the other books I've picked up or podcasts I've heard before. I hope you find the same to be true, and if you do, you have to let me know!
Are you willing to surrender to the things that keep showing up in your life in order to find your PASSION? In today's episode, we are thrilled to be joined by Catherine Rains, a successful collage artist, to talk about the power of creativity and how to design a life around your passions that can truly thrive. Catherine's story is unique and inspiring. As she so eloquently puts it “my true calling found me when I stopped looking for it and starting noticing what gave me joy”. Once she realized her calling was to make art, Catherine dedicated herself to mastering her craft and finding unique ways to incorporate her passion into her everyday life and travels. Today she is here to share the story of how she became known as The Hotel Artist. Her mission is to inspire people to look inside themselves and to find who they really are, and Catherine truly leads by example. "I don't want my day gig to be an excuse for not doing what I love" -Catherine Rains TOPICS INCLUDE: How she balances a full-time “day gig” with her full-time artistic endeavors while growing a thriving Instagram community "on the side". We explore how a simple shift in her own perspective lead to amazing opportunities both personally and professionally. The difference between "doing a job" and "having a calling". How her love for Instagram has turned her into a true influencer and helped her spread her message to a world-wide audience. What Catherine's morning routine looks like and the tools she uses to stay on track. And finally, Catherine gives us a behind the scenes look into how traveling for work has pushed her to think outside the box and proven that no matter what the challenge there is always an answer, not an excuse, if you are willing to get a little creative. *More from Catherine: For the past 20 years, I have been following my dream of creating sacred art for the purpose of inspiring myself and others to awaken to who we were meant to be, to who we've always been. On January 5th, 2015, I committed to working on my art every day. Despite intensive travel for my day gig (sometimes 3 or 4 weeks every month), I've reorganized my life to focus on what is most important. Some days I take huge leaps, and other days I take tiny steps, but I am now living my dream EVERY day. I hope you will take this journey with me. Perhaps along the way, you will be inspired to follow that quiet (or shouting) voice inside of you — the one that is calling you to take the next positive step in your soul's journey.
