For Episode 16, we discuss one of the more well-known clubs to feature in the book, English club Chester FC. Joining us to tell us how supporting them as been a bit of a rollercoaster throughout the years is author and Chester fanatic, Steve Hill. While Phil goes through the early years of the history of the club, Steve tells us about his experiences as a supporter and Chester's recent history. An eccentric American owner, a world-class striker playing for the club (and managing them) while also having men come in at four different stages to manage the club; what more could you ask for! The club eventually succumbed to financial difficulties, but was brought back to life by its fans and remains a fan-owned club in the lower leagues of English football. It is a model that is rarely seen in the English game, but one that's bearing fruit for Chester Success may be a rarity for them, but at least they still have their club and that is all that matters. So sit back and enjoy the compelling story of Chester FC. (Wrexham fans may want to tune out for this one)

Straight From The Off welcomes Ben Garrity to the Podcast. After representing Liverpool County FA sides at various ages Ben attracted interest from Chester FC. He would then return to the amatuer scene and play for Red Rum and Warbreck FC in the Liverpool County Premier League. After impressing with those sides, Ben moved to up and coming team Lower Breck FC. Lower Beck won an unpresidented quadruple with Ben at the heart of midfield and also went the season unbeaten. Again, Ben caught the eye of other sides and Warrington Town was his next destination. Ben adjusted to the step up very well and it wasn't long until the pro clubs were watching. A move to the football league with Blackpool FC saw Ben realise his dream of being a Pro footballer. Ben explains his love for his Sunday league side Oyster and how difficult it was to leave amateur football when signing a contract with Warrington. Ben now plays for Port Vale after a season long loan spell at Oldham Athletic. He tells us his favourite goals, games and all about the lads he shared a pitch with and played against throughout those times. Episode 66 is brought to you by: One Central Communications

From the Barrow bench to working with his idol Steven Gerrard - former Liverpool youngster on his surreal year

Blood Red: The Liverpool FC Podcast

About a year ago we caught up with Liverpool Under-23s goalkeeper Andy Firth to reflect on an unforgettable loan spell at Chester FC, which coincided with the club losing players left, right and centre - and very nearly going out of business. Safe to say it was an experience he wouldn’t forget in a hurry. But after signing a new contract with the Reds, the youngster decided to make the move back into National League football, but this time on a permanent basis, and this time with Barrow. It was a move that started well. But come November he had lost his place in the team, and you wouldn’t have blamed him for having second thoughts about leaving Liverpool, the club he has supported all his life. But then he didn't know what was just around the corner. In December, Andy took a call from his agent informing him that his idol, and Reds legend, Steven Gerrard wanted to sign him for Rangers. He did not need asking twice – and come the end of the season he had not only experienced a famous Auld Firm win from the bench, he’d also made his competitive debut. So with Rangers about to start their Europa League campaign, Paul Wheelock picks the phone back up to Andy to look back on what, as the man says himself, has been a surreal year. They also talk working under Gerrard, Liverpool’s current and former loanees at Rangers, Sheyi Ojo and Ryan Kent, his big mate Harry Wilson, and what it was like to be a fan, watching on from the stands, as the Reds beat Barcelona and then Tottenham to be crowned champions of Europe for the sixth time.
