Former Norwich City defender Marc Tierney enjoyed two memorable years at Carrow Road, playing a role in promotion to the Premier League in 2011. Amid wild celebrations on the Fratton Park pitch, Marc cartwheeled in front of a jubilant away end. Memories that live long in the memory. The 39-year-old is now back in the game as sporting director of National League side Altrincham and is looking to replicate the culture that helped Norwich succeed in his new role. Phil Bewers chats to York City manager Adam Hinshelwood ahead of Tuesday nights game against Altrincham.
As part of the monthly York City supporters trust social events, we welcomed the York City assistant manager Gary Elphick and first team coach Cam Morrison. Both had no hesitation in joining manager Adam Hinshelwood as part of the management team at the LNER and here we discuss their coaching journeys that lead them to this point. From the late night grim re-watching of the 6-1 mauling at Altrincham to the way in which the club recruited in the summer, this is a great insight into the current set up at the club. Trust socials are free to all York City supporters and take place at Brew York the first Wednesday of every month (excluding January). These podcasts are a spin off from York Hospital Radio. The government has pledged to stop using hotels to house asylum seekers. But in early November nearly three hundred people were moved into a hotel in Altrincham in Greater Manchester. The decision has provoked widespread concerns from the community and there are fears that far right protestors could target the premises. It follows violent demonstrations outside hotels in Rotherham, Hull, Tamworth, Manchester, Aldershot and Bristol in the summer. Hotel accommodation is often provided in some of the UK's poorest communities where residents are already facing difficulties in accessing vital services. So what is the government's plan to stop the use of hotel accommodation? And when will it end? File on 4 hears from some of those who live in the hotels – and from the communities who live nearby – and discovers who's profiting from the asylum business. This guest needs little introduction, York City manager Adam Hinshelwood. In this interview we discuss everything from his playing career, coaching philosophy, time at Worthing to, of course, his meteoric rise at York City from the humbling 6-1 defeat at Altrincham where the club looked odds on for a relegation to the top of the league where the club proudly sits now. This interview was conducted by Dan Tait, edited and produced by James Charters.
Belfast were on the road and took contrasting results either side of the Pennines. A thumping victory in Altrincham was followed by a disappointing defeat in Sheffield. Patrick, Davy and Simon look at the games, and are joined by new signing Karl Boudrais, following his debut goal against the Storm. Joining me on this week's episode of The English Wine Diaries is Johnny Stanford, chef patron of Tern Restaurant in Worthing. Manchester born and bred, Johnny began his career working with Paul Kitching at his acclaimed restaurant Juniper in Altrincham, before heading to Cumbria, then Edinburgh and finally settling in Sussex in 2012. Johnny worked as sous chef at the Michelin starred restaurant Matt Gillan @ The Pass before taking the reins as head chef at Pascere in Brighton and then heading up the 3 AA rosettes restaurant AG's at Alexander House. Here he creates captivating menus using British produce in the peak of its seasonality, offers an England-only wine list and some of THE most breathtaking views of the South Coast. We talk about the logistical challenges of running a restaurant at the end of a 300-metre long pier (if you follow Johnny or Tern then you'll know they had their biggest yet this week when Worthing Pier unexpectedly closed for repair work), his strangest food and English wine pairings and the reason why he believes in British food and drink producers so much. It's numbered 6, as we have previously spoken to Gavin Gordon, Mark Hone & Roger Holmes. However, this is the third in a new series hosted by Gary and former Lincoln City player Paul De Garis, following on from Matt Carmichael and Simon Yeo.Colin Alcide signed for the Imps in 1995, having to turn professional to do so. He had previously played for Emley (twice) and Altrincham, mainly as a defender. He was signed by John Beck, and pitched straight into a survival battle, which the Imps achieved,The following season the big striker became a key part of Beck's team as they pushed up the table, narrowly missing out on the play-offs, and giving Premier League Southampton a scare in the Coca-Cola Cup. A year later, with Alcide scoring 13 goals, the Imps were promoted to the third tier.Colin left for Hull halfway through the 1998/99 season, having made 140 appearances for City, scoring 31 times. In his later years, he played for Cambridge, York, and Exeter, as well as appearing in Europe for TNS. He even bagged a goal at Anfield for Hull City. This Podcast has been created and uploaded by Gary Hutchinson of the Stacey West Podcast. A mixed bag this week. We speak to an old friend of the show making progress every season at his club, now in the FA Trophy Fourth round and pushing for a play-off promotion in the National League. Phil Parkinson - yes non-league's very own - thinks his Altrincham side is coming together nicely, although the Christmas schedule isn't as he'd hoped, highlighting the big sacrifices those involved in football often have to make. With a similar schedule after weeks without competitive football is step 5 Tividale. They hope to get their FA Vase Third round tie played this weekend at the third attempt. Competing still in four cup competitions but not having had a league game since October it's been a strange season but one manager Stuart How is confident will bring rewards. Rounding up the week's news and the show is Jon Couch Executive Editor at The Non League paper.
Another strong and battling performance from the Hatters but they leave Old Trafford with zero points, dropping into the bottom three ahead of the international break. Lots to be proud of for the Club, who almost 13 years ago found themselves just six miles down the road at Altrincham in a league game, but now largely matching Manchester United. It's time now for Luton to start turning good performances into points, as the Club continues in their battle for Premier League survival.#lutontown #LTFC #COYH #PremierLeague #afcb #afc #avfc #brentford #bhafc #burnley #chelseafc #cpfc #everton #ffc #lfc #mcfc #mufc #newcastle #nffc #sufc #spurs #whufc #wwfc #MUNLUT #ManUtd Hosted on Acast. It's always one of the most exciting days in the football calendar and the latest Official Everton Podcast looks back over some special memories from the third round of the FA Cup. Which Merseyside football legend scored the only ever ‘golden goal', which tie was our first ever appearance on Match of the Day, which one was delayed when a chip shop by Goodison caught fire, why did we play 12 cup-ties in 14 games in 1987/88, why was the 1999 tie against Exeter City played in December and what Everton FA Cup record does Leighton Baines hold - even though he tells us that he didn't know it! Everton legend Kevin Ratcliffe tells us what David Moyes said to him after THAT game at Shrewsbury in 2003, John Connolly speaks about the horror tackle that broke his leg in the 1975 tie against non-league Altrincham and we catch up with former schoolteacher Phil Smith, who played centre-forward for the Northern Premier League outfit when they took the Blues to a replay. And Ian Snodin insists that he's still peeved that his team-mates didn't celebrate his goal at Sheffield Wednesday in 1988, although it was the fifth of a 5-0 victory! Host Darren Griffiths is joined by Dave Prentice and Gavin Buckland for a light-hearted stroll down FA Cup third round memory lane.
