We dig deep into her musical beginnings, and she reveals her unique entry into the world of music, which is marked by the challenge of being born to deaf parents, thus shaping her early understanding of sound and silence. Will Pol' and Patrik make a special guest appearance in her next music video? Kendra shares a pivotal moment from her childhood at eight years old when a German opera singer recognized her potential and guided her, fostering her early passion for music. Lots of laughs ensue over shared anecdotes about musical abilities and limitations, with Pol' and Patrik joking about their own vocal talents, or lack thereof. The conversation shifts to a more serious tone as Kendra discusses the mechanics of her career progression, from her strategic use of a firm that helps artists climb the Billboard charts to her geographical moves between the East Coast and Los Angeles. She outlines the demanding travel and the ambitious grind that defined her pre-Covid career trajectory. Kendra also touches on her creativity during the Covid pandemic, detailing the inspiration behind her "Song of Hope," which she aimed to be a unifying anthem reminiscent of the iconic '80s hit "We Are the World." She performs a snippet of this song, demonstrating her vocal depth influenced by her classical training. The hosts commend her achievements and delve into her creative process, discussing her favorite works and the stories behind her music videos, such as the visually striking "Avalanche" video featuring an ice-sculpted piano. Kendra opens up about the challenges and realities of the music industry, including an unfortunate encounter with Nick Jonas at the Grammys, which offers insight into the often glossed-over aspects of celebrity interactions. She candidly discusses the need for authenticity and openness as an artist, especially when dealing with fans and fellow artists. Kendra's narrative is one of determination and authenticity, navigating the complexities of the music industry while staying true to her artistic vision and personal values. She discusses her collaborations, including a notable project with Olivia Newton-John's daughter, Chloe Lattanzi and her ongoing commitment to evolving her sound and message. Our "Haute Topics" cover recent events in the music and fashion worlds, providing a spirited and insightful commentary that highlights their diverse perspectives. While Something To Talk About takes a break, we are revisiting some of the most emotional and revealing moments from the almost 50 guests who have joined us in conversation on this podcast over the past year. This third episode of the Something To Talk About summer series finds us about to begin a new year - a time many of us pause to both look ahead to the future and reflect on the year that was, including grieving those we have lost and re-evaluating the dark times we have navigated. Amid the fireworks and celebrations, this can be an isolating time, so today we're revisiting some of the most raw and intimate conversations that have taken place on Something To Talk About. We begin with Chloe Lattanzi, who spoke to Something To Talk About ahead of the one-year anniversary of the death of her mother, Olivia Newton-John. It is a moving conversation about grief, as is our interview with Waleed Aly, who opens up about spending time with his mother-in-law in her final hours, and how it brought closure - particularly given he was unable to be with his own father when he passed a decade ago. We also hear from those who have grappled with - and chosen to be open about - struggles related to their mental health. Abbie Chatfield explains how her ADHD diagnosis brought new clarity and helped her better understand her behaviour, while Brooke Blurton reveals how a childhood that left her feeling like an outcast to the wider Australian community informs her passion to fight for representation for First Nations people. Current Australian of the Year Taryn Brumfitt fires up about why accepting and celebrating our bodies is a decision we'll never regret, while Lisa Greenberg gives a searingly honest account of living with - and finally confronting - alcohol addiction. If you or someone you know needs help, call Lifeline on 13 11 14. Hear the full conversation with each of the six guests featured in this episode here: Listen to Chloe Lattanzi here. It's been almost 12 months since the news that Olivia Newton-John had passed away prompted an outpouring of grief across Australia and around the globe. After living with breast cancer for 30 years, Olivia drew her last breath at her home in California on August 8, 2022, as she held the hand of her beloved daughter Chloe Lattanzi. Ahead of the one-year anniversary of that day, Chloe joins Something To Talk About for an emotional conversation about how she continues to process her grief and the role she is playing in carrying on her mother's legacy - including attending the annual Olivia's Walk for Wellness in Melbourne this October. And, as she reflects on the first year without her mother, she reveals what the future holds, from her musical career to day to day life with her husband James - and why living on Olivia's ranch allows Chloe to feel her mother's presence every day in a very real and tangible way. We had the pleasure of interviewing CHLSY over Zoom video.Nashville-based group CHLSY recently release their new single “555” from their new EP Quantum Entanglement. From the inception of the band in July of 2021, Gilliland and her bandmates strive to reignite 90's sounds with their own modern “dark rock” spin and make music for others to feel seen. She has been working alongside GRAMMY® winning producer with 135+ billboard hits, Dave Audé and co-writing with David “DQ” Quiñones, Chloe Lattanzi, Rachel Levin, and has received accolades including recipient to the John Lennon Songwriting Award in 2017. CHLSY has grown its loyal social media fan base to nearly 83.7K followers and will be supporting Nashville-based rock band The Criticals on tour this July as they refine their live show and finish their self-produced debut EP released at the end of summer. CHLSY is made up of front-woman Chelsea Gilliland, bassist Sean Swanson and drummer Sawyer Dodds, all of which had a hand in writing and producing the new single “555,” alongside musician Jon Ezzo. Today I'm speaking with four-time Grammy Award-winner Olivia Newton-John and her daughter, singer/songwriter Chloe Lattanzi who recently released their new duet, “Window in the Wall.” Produced by six-time Grammy Award-winner Dave Cobb, “Window in the Wall” is not the first time this mother/daughter team has hit the recording studio. Their debut single, “You Have to Believe,” a remake of Newton-John's #1 single “Magic” from Xanadu, with additional lyrics by Lattanzi, was released in 2015 and reached #1 on the Billboard Dance Club Play Chart. “I've always recording duets and singing harmonies," says Olivia. "I had no plans to record at the time, but I knew from the second i heard the song I wanted to record it with Chloe." Amid today's current turbulence and chaos, Olivia and Chloe say they really felt connected with the song and its message of hope, love and understanding. Acclaimed singer/songwriter and actress Chloe Lattanzi releases her debut solo album, NO PAIN (co-written and co-produced with Jarrad Rogers), the follow-up to her #1 Billboard Dance Club hit, “You Have To Believe,” the acclaimed collaboration with her mother, international superstar Olivia Newton-John. Chloe began the project when she was signed to Warner Australia at the early age of 17, as a creative outlet to express her personal battle with body dysmorphia and anorexia. Although some leaked demos created excitement for the project, it was eventually put on hold as Chloe addressed her inner demons. “When I was making NO PAIN thirteen years ago, it was ‘never good enough' in my mind. Perfection was important to me. Now, the state-of-mind I'm in, I can hear the beauty and the vulnerability of the journey I was taking when I was making the album, and I wanted to share it with the world. I'm proud of it now.” Mike Wass, writing for Idolator says, “We've been blessed by the occasional stand-alone single (2010's “Wings And A Gun” and 2011's “Play With Me”) and a club-conquering duet with her mom. But none of those tracks rival the greatness of (NO PAIN). Chloe has a distinctive voice and, more importantly, something to say.” Chloe's Billboard debut, “You Have to Believe,” became the very first #1 hit on the Billboard Dance Club chart by a mother/daughter team. The music video inspired former Backstreet Boy, Nick Carter, to create a role for her in his successful zombie film, Dead 7, which premiered earlier this year on the SyFy Channel. In 2008, Chloe garnered national attention on the MTV reality show Rock the Cradle, where she was the last female singer standing, coming in third in the finale.
Join The Randy Report as I talk extensively with Chloe Lattanzi, who with her mother Olivia Newton-John, made history as the first mother/daughter team to hit #1 on the Billboard Dance Club chart with their new hit, "You Have To Believe." Chloe talks about the genesis of the project, taking on the challenge of re-imagining her mother's 1980s #1 hit "Magic" into something new for their fans, and the Las Vegas-centric music video. She also chats on her movie, Dead 7, for Syfy where she kicks zombie butt alongside Backstreet Boys Nick Carter, Howie Dorough & A.J. McLean, plus NSYNC's Joey Fatone.
