Is Zion a geographical location or a state of being? Can you be "walking in darkness at noon-day"? And what does it mean to be chastened by a loving God? D&C 94-97 answers these questions and more, offering powerful lessons on building God's kingdom—and ourselves—according to His patterns. Summary: In this episode, we explore four short but impactful sections of the Doctrine and Covenants. We begin with D&C 94, focusing on the Lord's emphasis on following His "pattern" for our lives and the building of His kingdom. Next, we confront the "tough love" of D&C 95, where the Saints are chastened for their "very grievous sin" of neglecting the Kirtland Temple. We'll unpack the concept of "walking in darkness at noon-day" and how we can avoid sins of omission. We'll also discuss the promise of an endowment of "power from on high" and the need to remove the "incumbrances" or obstacles to God's work, as revealed in D&C 96. Finally, we turn to D&C 97, which addresses the Saints in Zion as they faced intense persecution. We'll learn about obedience that requires sacrifice and the powerful truth that "this is Zion—the pure in heart." We'll see that building Zion is about becoming a people worthy of the place, and that opposition often precedes God's greatest blessings. In this week's episode, Paul Andrews addresses a common challenge among beginner guitarists: learning and actually remembering songs. Paul shares a structured approach to not just learning new songs but maintaining and improving them over time. Whether you're struggling to recall previously learned tunes or looking to build a solid repertoire, this episode offers practical tips and actionable steps to level up your song practice routine.Key Topics CoveredCommunity Update:Paul announces a live Zoom Q&A taking place on Sunday, 31st August at 9 pm GMT for Beginner Guitar Academy members. He details how to join, submit questions, and access the recorded session if you can't attend live.Practicing Songs vs. Practicing Skills:Songs are a collection of different skills (chords, rhythms, techniques).Key tip: Break songs down into their skill components to assess if they're suitable for your current level.Avoid picking songs that are too far above your ability; focus on skills first, then songs.A System for Learning Songs Efficiently:Step One: Pick the Right Song:Choose a song that aligns with your current skillset.Listen to the original, identify sections (intro, verse, chorus), and loop those sections in practice.Start with simplified versions and play the song slowly. Only increase tempo as you gain confidence.Step 2: The 3 Ps System for Maintaining Songs:Practice – For new or challenging songs/sections. Loop and break down tricky parts.Playthrough – For songs you can mostly play but need to keep fresh.Perform – For songs you know inside out; these are gig-ready or can be played start to finish confidently.Rotate songs between these categories as your abilities improve.Step 3 - Balancing New Songs and Old Songs (The 50/50 Rule):Don't just chase new songs or only maintain old ones. Spend half your practice on new material and half on revisiting and maintaining what you already know.Common Mistakes (and How to Fix Them):Always starting at the beginning of a tune. Not listening to the original recording.Neglecting old songs. Not keeping a song log.Collecting snippets instead of completing full songs.Practicing without a clear goal.Action Plan for This Week:Make a list of every song you can (or almost can) play.Categorize each into Practice, Playthrough, or Perform.Schedule a setlist run-through (like a mini gig at home).Add a new, suitable song to your practice pile, balance new and old (50/50).Track your song practice and progress.TakeawaysFocus on skill-appropriate songs, break them down, and use a structured maintenance method to truly own your repertoire.Rotate between learning new material and refreshing old songs to keep your playing both exciting and reliable.Set clear intentions with every song practice session to avoid getting stuck or demotivated.Celebrate your progress as songs move from “Practice” to “Playthrough” and finally “Perform”.Resources MentionedBeginner Guitar Academy: Join for a structured, supportive approach to learning, with access to live Q&As, workshops, a song library, and two weeks of access for just $1.Next Steps:Ready to make progress with your song repertoire? Imagine having someone looking after YOU as a business owner. Business owners often focus on cash flow, payroll, and acquiring new cash flow. Neglecting to plan for life-changing events like tragic accidents or temporary disabilities hinders continuity in your business. Andy Fankhauser offers a process to help business owners, their partners, and families make smooth transitions if the owner is incapacitated or worse. After speaking with Andy, I realized I never considered a backup plan for my French-themed inn, in case I couldn't manage it for a few months. I mentioned having $300,000 in life insurance to cover expenses for the inheritor while they sold the property—this only prepares for unexpected death. Andy pointed out that without a method for someone to authorize payroll or pay bills through the business bank, outstanding debts and expenses won't be paid. Life insurance alone is not enough. Andy suggests taking steps with your bank to ensure someone can continue business operations if you're unable to sign those checks or make withdrawals.. Sermon Outline: Jude 1:1-2 (The Marks of A True Christian) The CalledIntroductionNew series: walking through the book of Jude (one chapter, but deeply relevant).Warnings: false teachers infiltrating churches with watered-down doctrine.Today's focus: Jude 1:1 — identity, calling, and assurance in Christ.1. Jude's Identity (v.1a)“Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James…”Servant/Bondservant of ChristTerm also used by Paul and James.Means total surrender — either a slave to Christ or a slave to self.Slave to self = never satisfied; slave to Christ = true fulfillment.Brother of JamesJude establishes credibility—linked to James, half-brother of Jesus.Authority matters in warnings against false teachers.Application: Where is your identity rooted? In self or in Christ?2. The Audience (v.1b)“To those who are called…”The Called of GodGod has always called His people (Isaiah 43:1–2).Christians are chosen, redeemed, and set apart to glorify God.Encouragement of SalvationHebrews 7:25 — Jesus lives to intercede for us.Eternal Advocate = eternal security.Application: If you are in Christ, you are called, known, and held by God.3. The Assurance (v.1c)“…beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ.”Loved by God the FatherHis love is the foundation of our calling.Kept for Jesus ChristBelievers are safe and secure in Him.Eternal security isn't man's idea—it's God's promise.Warning: This only applies to true believers.Shallow prayers, church attendance, or “asking Jesus into your heart” ≠ true conversion.True salvation = repentance, faith, and surrender to Christ alone.Application: Don't play church—get serious about eternity.4. The Mission of the Church (Colossians 1:28)Proclaim Christ — the center of all preaching.Warn everyone — judgment for sin is real.Teach maturity — help believers grow into Christlikeness.Application:Assurance flows from maturity.Childlike faith ≠ childish faith.Open your Bible. Read. Obey. Grow.5. The Danger of Neglecting the WordMany avoid Scripture because it confronts sin.Comfortable flesh resists God's truth.True peace and assurance come only by:Making war on sin.Trusting Christ's finished work on the cross.Walking daily in obedience to His Word.ConclusionJude begins with encouragement: called, loved, and kept in Christ. But this only belongs to true believers.Eternity is real—don't play games with your soul.Main Call: Open your Bible. Trust Christ. Live as one who is called, loved, and kept.
Dr. Roger L. Smith discusses neglecting responsibility, illustrated by a restaurant scenario where employees ignored a mess. He connects this to the biblical figure Eli, a priest who neglected his duties and enabled his sons' corruption, leading to dire consequences. Dr. Smith emphasizes that responsibilities to God and neighbor are fundamental, citing the Great Commandments and the Ten Commandments. He argues neglecting these responsibilities, both through actions and omissions, is a sin with far-reaching effects. Dr. Smith urges listeners to accept responsibility, love God and neighbor, and hold others accountable with grace and truth, breaking cycles of neglect and passing on faith to future generations.

"Aqeedah Lessons 01-04: The Qur'an and Sunnah as the Foundation of Faith" | | ZAD Academy Audio | Blogpost by Zayd HajiBy Zayd Haji – Student at Zad AcademyAssalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa BarakatuhI am Zayd Haji, a student at ZAD Academy. All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and companions. I testify that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger.1. The Creed: The Qur'an and Its PreservationThe Qur'an is a strong foundation and solid truth, instilling faith in the heart with clarity in Arabic. We are to follow what Allah has revealed and not seek guidance from other sources."Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian." (Surah al-Hijr 15:9)https://quran.com/15/9This verse reassures us that Allah Himself protects the Qur'an from distortion.2. Divine Authority of the Qur'anNothing is truer than Allah's word. The Qur'an's revelations are perfect in both report (accurate narration) and ruling (just legislation). We are reminded that Allah sent down other scriptures—the Torah and the Gospel—to earlier prophets like Abraham and Moses, affirming the continuity of divine guidance.3. The Criterion (Al-Furqan)Allah has bestowed upon His Messenger ﷺ the Criterion—a tool to distinguish truth from falsehood. This serves as guidance for all humankind, through the Qur'an, which is both a mercy and a judicial standard.4. Referring Disputes to Allah & His MessengerIf differences arise, the decision must be referred back to Allah and His Messenger, provided one truly believes in Allah and the Last Day. This command is earnest, not a trivial matter.5. The Sunnah: Equally ObligatoryFollowing the Sunnah—that is, the Prophet's words, deeds, approvals, and descriptions—is essential. Allah commands:“And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you from, refrain from it. And obey Allah and His Messenger.”Likewise, the Qur'an instructs:“And We sent down to you the Reminder so that you may explain to the people what was sent down to them.”Thus, both the Qur'an and the Sunnah are divinely revealed and mandatory.6. A Heartfelt Hadith on AdherenceThe Prophet ﷺ warned against neglecting the Sunnah. He said:“Let me not find one of you reclining on his couch when he hears something regarding me which I have commanded or forbidden, and saying: ‘We do not know. What we found in Allah's Book we have followed.'” He also affirmed: “Indeed, I have been given the Qur'an and something like it [i.e., the Sunnah] along with it.” Sunan Abi Dawud 4605https://sunnah.com/abudawud:4605This underscores that both sources are complementary and essential.7. Summary — Key Points to RememberThe Qur'an is divinely revealed and preserved (15:9).It is the ultimate criterion—truth in word and justice in law.Disputes must be referred back to Allah and His Messenger. The Sunnah is equally binding and a means to understand the Qur'an.Neglecting the Sunnah is a grave error, as one has been given both the Qur'an and the Sunnah.May Allah grant us firm adherence to His Book and the authentic practice of His Messenger ﷺ, so that we remain on sound creed and true guidance.
In this episode, we dive into Chapter 5, "Leading Transformation," focusing on the essential theme of continuous learning habits in leadership. I emphasize that excellence in leadership is not a one-time achievement but a journey of ongoing growth. The best leaders are those who ask insightful questions and remain curious about themselves, their teams, and the world around them. I draw a parallel between leadership and conducting music, highlighting how a skilled conductor, like Robert Shaw, continually seeks deeper understanding and clarity, even after performing pieces numerous times. This mindset of lifelong learning is crucial for leaders, as it fosters humility and a culture of innovation and trust within their teams. We discuss the importance of establishing consistent habits that support leadership growth. Just as a violinist practices daily, leaders must integrate small, repeatable actions into their routines to build resilience and clarity. I encourage listeners to reflect on their current habits and consider what small changes they can make to elevate their leadership. Neglecting personal growth can lead to stagnation, limiting a leader's ability to inspire and innovate. By modeling continuous learning, leaders empower their teams to grow alongside them, creating a culture where excellence is the norm. To help listeners take actionable steps, I propose an exercise to design a leadership growth rhythm, incorporating daily journaling, weekly reviews, and monthly learning activities. I conclude with a powerful reminder that leadership is about staying in motion and evolving, not just staying ahead of others. The next chapter will focus on "Balance and Self-Care," emphasizing the importance of maintaining energy and boundaries for sustainable leadership. Learn more about your ad choices. The chairperson of the Policing and Community Safety Authority has described as "shocking" a report which shows that a substantial number of gardaí assigned to Roads Policing are not doing their jobs and have no interest in doing them. The Garda Commissioner has promised to publish the Crowe Report which also shows that gardaí who were not carrying out their duties did not care that they were being monitored, and that their managers were not dealing with the problem. Drew Harris called their actions "brazen and contemptuous" and the report's conclusions "sobering". The disturbing details in the report emerged on the day that the gardaí launched another of its road safety campaigns. An independent review of roads policing was launched after a garda whistleblower informed garda headquarters that a substantial number of the gardaí tasked with policing the roads were not doing their jobs. For more on this, Derrick Lynch was joined by Fianna Fáil Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy's who's brother was killed in an accident and Helga Himmelsbach, Ballyvaughan resident, whose husband Jeremiah O'Connor lost his life when his motorcycle collided with the car of a French tourist in July of last year.
In this impactful message titled "Jesus Is Coming: Rest and Wait," Servant Marcia Carty of Heaven on Earth Ministries of Jesus Christ addresses the escalating chaos and unsettling signs of the present day, likening them to the "Days of Noah." She points to alarming developments like advanced robotics, spiritual manifestations, and widespread natural disasters as indicators that humanity is drawing nearer to the fulfillment of biblical prophecies. Servant Marcia highlights humanity's current state of weariness and departure from God, urging a return to faith. She passionately explains that while the world trusts in governments, wealth, and human strength, true blessing and stability come only from trusting in the Lord. The message emphasizes that humanity's current woes stem from forsaking God and following their own evil inclinations. Key takeaways from this teaching include: -- The world is currently experiencing signs foretold in scripture, such as wars, commotions, earthquakes, famines, and pestilence, mirroring descriptions found in Matthew 24 and Luke 21. -- God expresses weariness from humanity's relentless turning away from Him, as seen in Jeremiah's lamentations. -- Trusting in human institutions or personal strength leads to a cursed existence, likened to a shrub in the desert, while trusting in the Lord makes one like a tree planted by water, yielding fruit and unfazed by hardship (Jeremiah 17:5-8). -- The human heart is inherently deceitful and wicked, and only God can truly know and judge it (Jeremiah 17:9-10). -- Salvation and true rest are found not through adherence to the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ, who has redeemed believers from the law's curse (Galatians 3:9-29). -- Through faith in Christ, believers are adopted as sons of God, no longer slaves, but heirs, filled with the Spirit crying "Abba, Father." -- Neglecting salvation through Christ means there is no escape from the coming judgments. -- Believers are called to arm themselves with the mind of Christ, no longer living according to worldly lusts, but for the will of God, actively avoiding sin and evil associations (1 Peter 4:1-4). -- The ultimate call is to be "rapture ready," anticipating Jesus' return and striving to live righteously. Scriptures for Further Study -- Matthew 24 -- Luke 21 -- Jeremiah 15 -- Jeremiah 17:5-10, 15-18 -- Jeremiah 18:15-17 -- Galatians 3:9-29 -- Hebrews 1 -- 1 Peter 4:1-4 +++++++ We have begun building a new website which you can see here: https://www.noahdays.org/
Neglecting yourself for the sake of another can appear as a noble sacrifice. But after a while, it can lead to your own personal burnout. What you begin to realize is that neglecting yourself actually limits your capacity to love the other. Today we talk about making your own well-being a priority. We are called to love our neighbor AS OURSELF.

Recruiting Future is a podcast that helps Talent Acquisition teams drive measurable impact by developing their strategic capability in Foresight, Influence, Talent, and Technology. This episode is about Influence. The importance of data is universally recognized in TA, but the real opportunity lies in going beyond basic metrics and using data to shape business strategy. Forward-thinking TA leaders are moving beyond operational dashboards to connect hiring decisions with business outcomes like revenue generation and team performance. This shift requires not just better metrics but a fundamental change in how we communicate value to the organization. The challenge is that many teams remain stuck at the operational level, measuring activity rather than impact. So, how can you be more strategic about data and analytics? My guest this week is Leandro Cartelli, founder of a staffing and recruiting agency specializing in Latin American talent. With nearly 20 years of experience working in recruiting and talent acquisition, Leandro brings deep insights into building data-driven TA functions. In our conversation, he shares his framework for evolving TA metrics through three maturity stages and explains how connecting recruiting data to business outcomes transforms organizational influence. In the interview, we discuss: The most important data points for TA Connecting recruiting metrics to business goals The three maturity stages of TA metrics Building influence with data Latin American talent market dynamics Advice to companies recruiting across borders Neglecting the candidate experience The impact of AI on jobs and careers The future of the TA function Follow this podcast on Apple Podcasts. He guides you through a preplanning process for both temporary setbacks and death. Andy has over ten years of banking experience and saw firsthand the impact of COVID on business owners. A recurring issue: no plan for alternate people to access business funds if the owner is incapacitated or has passed away. Banks CAN require probate to access funds. Probate of business accounts can take months to years, preventing crirical payments. This scenario can be avoided with proper planning—Andy specializes in this area. He looks after YOU as a business owner and helps you avoid catastrophes. On this episode of This vs. That, we explore the tension between accepting limitations and neglecting responsibility with Kelly Kapic, Professor of Theological Studies at Covenant College. Kelly, author of "Your Only Human" and the upcoming devotional "You Were Never Meant To Do It All," shares his personal struggles with productivity culture and the constant pressure to do more.We discuss how human dependency—on God, other people, and creation—was designed as a good thing before the fall, not a consequence of sin. Kelly offers insights on how we can embrace our limitations without abandoning our responsibilities, and how both over-responsible and under-responsible attitudes diminish God's design for us.The conversation takes us from theological perspectives on human limitations to practical applications for dealing with global suffering and local ministry opportunities. We explore how it takes the entire church, not just individuals, to be the body of Christ, and why trying to carry the weight of the world's problems alone is neither sustainable nor biblical.

After working with hundreds of people navigating retirement, we've seen a clear pattern: the biggest regrets aren't about money. They're about meaning.Too often, people retire from something—but never toward something. They solve the financial side without planning for the life side. And that leads to some common regrets:No clear purpose after work: Retirement without direction quickly turns from freedom to restlessness.Neglecting health too long: Wellness is what fuels the retirement you've dreamed about—don't wait to prioritize it.Losing social connection: The workplace offers more structure and belonging than many realize until it's gone.Expecting retirement to feel like a vacation forever: It won't. But with intention, it can become a reinvention.Being too afraid to spend: Your money is a tool to live—not something to hoard while life passes by.Don't wait to think about what really matters. The best retirements are built not just on financial security—but on vision, relationships, health, and joy.Start designing a life you won't regret.-Advisory services are offered through Root Financial Partners, LLC, an SEC-registered investment adviser. Updating developer tools is essential for developers who want to stay efficient, secure, and competitive. In this episode of Building Better Developers with AI, Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche explore how maintaining modern toolsets helps individuals and teams deliver better software, faster. With support from AI-generated analysis and real-world experience, they outline the risks of falling behind—and how to move forward. Listen to the full episode of Building Better Developers with AI for practical insights and ideas you can start applying today. Efficiency and Profitability When Updating Developer Tools AI captured the core message well: using outdated tools slows down delivery, creates unnecessary friction, and ultimately reduces profitability. For side hustlers and teams alike, this loss of efficiency can make or break a project. Rob pointed out that many developers begin their careers using only basic tools. Without proper exposure to modern IDEs like IntelliJ, Visual Studio Code, or Eclipse, they miss out on powerful features such as debugging tools, plugin support, container integration, and real-time collaboration. Warning Signs You Should Be Updating Developer Tools How do you know it's time to update your development tools? Rob and Michael discussed key red flags: Frequent crashes or poor performance Lack of support for modern languages or frameworks Weak integration with tools like GitHub Actions or Docker Outdated or unsupported plugins Inconsistent tooling across team members Neglecting to update developer tools can lead to slow onboarding, poor collaboration, and increased bugs—especially in fast-paced or regulated environments. Tool Standardization vs. Flexibility When Updating Tools There's a balance between letting developers choose their tools and ensuring consistency across a team. While personal comfort can boost productivity, it may also cause challenges when teams debug or collaborate. Rob and Michael recommend hosting internal hackathons to explore new toolchains or standardize workflows. These events give teams a structured way to evaluate tools and share findings. The Security Risk of Not Updating Developer Tools Michael highlighted that outdated tooling doesn't just slow developers down—it creates serious security and compliance risks. Being just one or two versions behind can open vulnerabilities that violate standards like HIPPA, OWASP or SOX. Regular updates to SDKs, plugins, and IDEs are essential for staying compliant, especially in sensitive industries like finance or healthcare. How to Evaluate New Tools Before Updating Developer Toolchains Rob offered a practical framework for evaluating new tools: Does it solve a real pain point? Start with a side project or proof of concept. Check for strong community support and documentation. Balance between stable and innovative. Michael added a note of caution: avoid adopting tools with little community activity or long-term support. If a GitHub project has only a couple of contributors and poor maintenance, it's a red flag. Developer Tools to Review and Update Regularly To keep your development environment current, Rob suggested reviewing these tool categories often: IDEs and code editors Version control tools CI/CD systems and build automation Testing and QA frameworks Package managers and dependency systems Containerization and environment management platforms Using AI to convert simple apps into different frameworks can also help evaluate new tools—just make sure not to share proprietary code. Final Thoughts Modern development demands modern tooling. From cleaner code to faster deployment and stronger team collaboration, the benefits of updating developer tools are clear. Whether you're an independent developer or part of a larger organization, regularly reviewing and upgrading your toolset is a habit worth forming. In a recent episode of the Building Better Developers podcast, Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche explore the value of a business tune-up—a mid-year check-in designed to help business owners realign with their goals, improve operations, and reduce waste. Whether your business is thriving or simply coasting, regular evaluations can uncover blind spots, highlight new opportunities, and help you operate more effectively. What Is a Business Tune-Up? Rob Broadhead describes a business tune-up as a strategic assessment of your company's core elements—from technology and marketing to compliance and overall alignment with your mission. It's not just about checking sales metrics. It's about asking: Are we still aligned with our mission? Is our customer experience consistent and strong? Are we positioned for sustainable growth? This type of review should happen at least once or twice a year and can often be completed in 30 minutes or less. Business Tune-Up Step 1: Review Your Website and Messaging Your website is often a potential customer's first interaction with your business. Rob recommends reviewing: Site functionality and uptime Messaging and value proposition Blog content freshness Design consistency and branding Walk through your website as if you were a first-time visitor. Does it clearly explain what you do? Are there outdated blog posts or confusing navigation paths? Business Tune-Up Step 2: Audit Subscriptions and Expenses Michael Meloche shares how he routinely reviews business expenses to identify unnecessary costs and expired tools. He recommends: Reviewing all active services and tools Identifying subscriptions no longer in use Evaluating recurring expenses for ROI Many businesses waste hundreds or even thousands per year on forgotten tools. This step alone can have an immediate financial impact. Business Tune-Up Step 3: Adjust for Growth and Scale If your business is growing, your infrastructure should grow with it. Michael emphasizes reviewing internal workflows and team bandwidth to determine if: It's time to hire additional help or virtual assistants Agile practices and documentation need improvement Your current tools can be consolidated or upgraded Rob notes that as businesses grow, systems that worked early on can quickly become limiting. Simplifying and integrating tools may offer greater efficiency and ROI. Business Tune-Up Step 4: Check for Compliance and Security Staying compliant is essential, especially in regulated industries like healthcare, finance, and technology. Your compliance check should include: Reviewing certifications and licenses Verifying software updates and security patches Staying informed on new industry regulations Neglecting updates or certifications can lead to legal issues or vulnerabilities. Keeping up with best practices ensures stability and avoids disruptions. Business Tune-Up Step 5: Refresh Marketing and Outreach Marketing is often neglected during busy periods, but it shouldn't be. Key areas to review: Campaign performance (email, PPC, content) Social media presence and engagement Follow-up processes for leads Marketing funnels and conversion paths Michael reminds listeners that maintaining an active presence—even in slower seasons—can generate new leads and keep your brand top of mind. Episode Challenge: Complete a 30-Minute Business Tune-Up Rob concludes the episode with a simple but impactful challenge: Take 15 to 30 minutes this week to perform a business tune-up. Review your website, marketing, expenses, workflows, and compliance. Even small improvements can generate new opportunities, cut costs, or increase performance.
