In 2016, they officially formed as the Strays, adding a couple players to round out the five-person outfit. After a few years gigging around the state and some festival slots, the band hit it big in 2023 when their song “Wondering Why” went viral on TikTok. It climbed up the Billboard charts and landed the band a deal with RCA Records. That led to their Dave Cobb-produced second studio LP, Made by These Moments, which was released on July 26.In September, the band made their debut at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on tour behind the record, and guitarists Drew Nix and Zach Rishel brought a beautiful stable of American-made 6-strings for the occasion. Produced by Dave Cobb, the album featured primarily traditional songs and country music covers alongside two originals. The follow-up, Put Your Needle Down, was produced by T-Bone Burnett and found the sisters contributing more original material, including collaborations with Brandi Carlile and Dan Wilson. Both albums reached the Top 10 on Billboard's folk chart. Their next two releases—You Don't Own Me Anymore and Saturn Return—were co-produced by Brandi Carlile, and each earned a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album. Their fifth, and most recent, studio album is called Mind, Man, Medicine and finds the sisters co-producing for the first time, alongside Ben Tanner and John Paul White, who is best known as half of the duo The Civil Wars. The album was recorded in their hometown of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, primarily at the legendary FAME Studios.

Month, the randomizer goes all the way back to 1981 to pick an animated would-be classic that seemed to have everything going for it: a beautiful nature setting in the Bambi mold, a timeless parabolic story about the irrationality of bigotry, and a once-in-a-lifetime animation crew loaded with literally dozens of future directors. How could they possibly screw that up? Welp, dull dialogue, a meandering story, muddled character motivations, instantly forgettable songs, an inept fumbling of the anti-bigotry message, a side character who should've died inexplicably living, a pointless B-plot where two birds and a caterpillar do third-rate Tom & Jerry shtick, and what the hell, why not throw in some incompetent studio mismanagement that drove about a dozen animators to resign and form their own studio while we're at it, that's how. In the 1950s, Frank Sinatra famously proclaimed Jack Daniel's the “nectar of the gods.”  Sales doubled, the warehouses emptied, and Mr. Daniel's “nectar” was on allocation for the next twenty-five years.  In 2013, a state law in Tennessee established a legal definition of “Tennessee Whiskey” for the first time, better known as the “Lincoln County Process.”  While a few whiskey nerds followed the arcane legal and political developments that paved the way for official “Tennessee Whiskey,” on November 4, 2015 the worlds of music and Tennessee whiskey would again collide when Justin Timberlake made a surprise appearance to join Chris Stapleton on-stage for the 2015 CMA awards.  While Tennessee Whiskey was originally written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove in 1981 and made famous by George Jones in 1983, the Stapleton-Timberlake collab equated to a sonic boom in the worlds of music and brown liquor, bringing a new level of national and international attention to Tennessee's favorite spirit that was now a “category” all its own.  It almost goes without saying that sales of Stapleton's debut studio album, “Traveller,” produced with Dave Cobb, would also explode, winning numerous awards and ultimately becoming the top selling country album of the 2010s.  The story of Tennessee Whiskey is complicated, and fascinating.  Join us for this very special episode of Climbing the Charts as John Brittle, real estate guru and founder of The Whiskey House, a 501(c)(3), and Heath Clark, a recovering healthcare attorney turned whiskey entrepreneur and founder of H Clark Distillery, tell us the incredible true story of how Tennessee went from almost 1,000 distilleries before Prohibition, to having just TWO distilleries until Prichard's opened in 1997, to now having almost 50 distilleries with almost 30 that are now part of the officially designated “Tennessee Whiskey Trail.”  There are few better at turning phrases or crafting tall-tales than these guests (e.g., “I can have a one-night stand with a bottle of wine, but with a bottle of whiskey, I can have a long-term relationship.” — John G. Brittle).  We promise, whether you are a whiskey novice or aficionado, you will learn a lot and laugh even more through this episode, and you'll also have a true appreciation for the fact that all bourbon is whiskey, but that not even all Tennessee whiskey is “Tennessee Whiskey” . . . . with the exception of Prichard's!

In this exclusive interview reboot, Mark Baratto sits down with Rapper and Singer of the Dirty Heads, Jared Watson (aka Dirty J). This interview happened 30 minutes before the band went on stage for the beginning of their national tour, down here at the Key West Amphitheater. It may have been short, but for those fans out there, we touched on the bands origin story and their beginnings. More on the Dirty Heads Following in the footsteps of their California brothers Sublime, Huntington Beach's Dirty Heads mix hip-hop, reggae, and rock along with that laid-back South Cali attitude. The group formed in 2003 when punk rocker Dustin Bushnell (aka Duddy B) asked his friend, rapper Jared Watson (aka Dirty J), to collaborate on a project that would focus on positive vibes and infectious grooves. Watson added singing to his vocal skills, and with percussionist Jon Olazabal, an acoustic trio version of Dirty Heads began playing shows and building an audience.  They soon hooked up with producer Rob Cavallo and headed into the studio to record their debut album for Warner Bros., but differences with the label had them looking for other opportunities. Still, the band was able to retain most of its work, including sessions with drummer Josh Freese, along with the late-Beatles collaborator Billy Preston in one of the keyboardist's last recordings. The finished album, Any Port in a Storm, would arrive in 2008, with a deluxe edition following in 2010. The deluxe version featured the track “Lay Me Down” with special guest Rome Ramirez of Sublime with Rome. The song would top Billboard's Alternative Songs chart just before the summer of 2010.  They followed up two years later with Cabin by the Sea and later recorded an acoustic version of the title track. This, in turn, led to an entire acoustic album in 2013 called Home: Phantoms of Summer. Dirty Heads' next album, Sound of Change, would prove to be a breakthrough for the now-veteran band, debuting at number eight on the Billboard Top 200 while topping the Independent and Alternative Albums charts upon its May 2014 release.  Building on their renewed success, Dirty Heads enlisted a bevy of industry hitmakers to work on their self-titled 2016 follow-up, which — thanks to its mainstream appeal — again charted high on the Billboard Top 200. The following year saw the band drop its sixth studio album, Swim Team, featuring the singles “Vacation” and “Staloney.” Also included on the album was the track “So Glad You Made It,” featuring 311's Nick Hexum. The single “Listen to Me” arrived in early 2019 and was later included on Dirty Heads' Dave Cobb-produced seventh album Super Moon. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi Website: https://www.dirtyheads.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dirtyheads Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DirtyHeads Twitter: https://twitter.com/dirtyheads YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/DirtyHeads Spotify: https://play.spotify.com/artist/6GkJh85o22LfD2vgL9DP6f?play=true&utm_source=open.spotify.com&utm_medium=open Apple iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/dirty-heads/id287941061

Just me.” Magdalena is a personal journey shared through song where Lopez looks inward and shares stories of love, loss and everything in between.About Christian Lopez:Christian Lopez is an artist who puts all of his eggs in one basket. The devoted singer-songwriter spent the last 2 years in a tiny New Mexican town called, Magdalena, writing and recording in a small adobe casita, on a mission to conjure the purest sounds and songs from the deepest depths of himself. With the help of producer, Robert Adam Stevenson, who also produced Lopez's last project The Other Side (2021), and drummer Carl Thomson, Christian delivers a new full-length album laced with some of Lopez's hardest, most joyful, and most spiritual songs to date. Lopez's work was interrupted in April 2022 when his little brother tragically overdosed on fentanyl in his hometown of Martinsburg, West Virginia. Heartbroken, Lopez shifted his outlook to focus on one mission: “to leave something real behind.. “.. Magdalena, his fourth full-length album, is just that, with the representation of Lopez's constantly altering state, his acoustic guitar playing, soaring vocals, and songs that focus less on a hook and more about hooking you to a feeling. You could say Christian Lopez has come a long way since his 2014 Dave Cobb produced debut, but now age 27, he's truly just getting started. We want to hear from you! Lori McKenna became a songwriter almost by accident. In this episode she joins Laura and Tracy to talk about her super unusual entrance into the Nashville music scene. Lori details how Faith Hill heard and recorded several of her songs before she had a publishing deal, how she balances living in Boston and working in Nashville, and why no expectations are the best expectations. Over the last three decades, as she became a wife and mother of five, Lori McKenna has also emerged as one of the most respected, prolific singer-songwriters in popular music. On her latest release, The Balladeer, Lori McKenna is offering her most uplifting and up-tempo album in a catalog that spans 20 years. Produced by GRAMMY award winning Dave Cobb and recorded in Nashville's historic Studio A, The Balladeer follows an incredible stretch of career momentum, including two consecutive Grammy wins as a songwriter for Best Country Song – Little Big Town's “Girl Crush” and Tim McGraw's “Humble and Kind.” She has been nominated for the award four other times, most recently with Taylor Swift's “I Bet You Think About Me,” which features Chris Stapleton and was released in 2021 on her re-recorded album, Red (Taylor's Version). In 2016, she made history by becoming the Academy of Country Music's first female Songwriter of the year and in 2017, she became the first female ever to win the Country Music Association's Song of the Year award two years in a row. Yet her success doesn't stop there. McKenna co-wrote Lady Gaga's “Always Remember Us This Way,” which was featured in the Academy Award-winning 2018 film, A Star Is Born, and was also nominated for Grammy Song of the Year in 2020. She has written songs for a multitude of other award-winning artists including Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Sara Bareilles, Faith Hill, Hunter Hayes, Reba McEntire, and more.
