Text: Luke 2 Speaker: Pastor Bruce Burkett Title: All I Want for Christmas: Joy
The joy of Jesus Christ was never meant to be packed away with the holiday decorations! "But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” -Luke 2:10-11 NASB95 If you would like to partner with us, please visit: https://myloh.church/give

Comedian, entrepreneur, and cultural favorite KevOnStage sits down with hosts Deborah Joy Winans Williams and MAJOR. for a wildly funny and surprisingly heartfelt holiday conversation on Choosing Joy for the Holidays. From broke-era Christmases to the infamous Batman-without-the-Batman gift, Kev shares stories that shaped his childhood — and why those moments still make him laugh today. Kev opens up about what the holidays were like growing up with very little, including years when presents were missing, sweaters were the wrong size, and his grandmother still made it all feel meaningful. He reflects on how becoming a father shifted everything, including why he eventually stopped giving his kids mountains of gifts and instead started taking annual Christmas trips around the world — this year, all the way to Japan. As a comedian who happens to be a Christian (and not the other way around), Kev breaks down how he navigates faith, comedy, and community without letting labels box him in. He shares outrageous stories about church life, roasting from the pews, and learning not to fear disappointing people — because, as he says, “I disappoint myself every day.” The episode closes with a rapid-fire holiday game featuring eggnog, NBA basketball vs. Christmas service, the best version of “This Christmas,” and which family member is absolutely spiking the eggnog. A hysterical, warm, relatable, culturally rich episode — everything Holiday AF was built for.Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/choosing-joy/id1826833726Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thechoosingjoypodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@choosingjoythepodcastGo Premium: https://www.theblackguywhotips.com/premium/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking!A quick final episode to see out the year! Christmas is many things to many people. To us, it's a chance to talk about themed music, or, in this case, movies that fit the theme. We talk about Phil Spector's “A Christmas gift for You”, which is nowhere near as bad as it could be with that title. Elsewhere in Rolling Stone's 25 Greatest Xmas Albums, (which lives up to the terrible standard set by all their other “Greatest”), Elvis ranks below Phil Spector, The Carpenters wish us Season's Greetings and Weezer's “A Weezer Christmas” ranks below 2012's “Christmas Joy in Latvia – Latvian Christmas Cantatas”. If you've never heard of Red Peter, you're probably lucky, as the song titles on his, “It's a Red Peter's Xmas” contain gems like, “It's Christmas & you're Sucking My Balls!” So tasteful! As Kiss' Ace Frehley is now “Knockin' on Heaven's Door”, we look at a few of the many times those happy Kiss guys had disagreements. For a change, we look at IMDB's list of the Top 10 Christmas movies. No real surprises, but it'll bring joy to your heart & a tear to your eye. See you on the last Sunday in January for our first episode of 2026. Enjoy the playlist. Xmas Playlist! Today, Pastor Michael Acock speaks in part 3 of our Advent series, Awakening Joy: Emmanuel in the Shadows. What if the darkest moments of our lives could become the very spaces where divine light breaks through? In a powerful message, Pastor Michael explores how Jesus intentionally enters the shadows of our world, just as He did over 2000 years ago. Drawing from Matthew 1:18-25, he illuminates how Christ's birth occurred not in pristine conditions, but amid political oppression, social chaos, and personal scandal. You can find the full sermon notes and other resources at our website. We hope this message encourages you and helps you know Jesus in a more real way. The nativity scene makes room for the weeping mother, Rachel in Matthew 2. Sometimes joy sounds like a trembling voice saying, “I still believe.” So church—whether you sing through smiles or tears today — lift your eyes. Joy to the world. The Lord has come. The Lord is coming again
Christmas joy is far more than hearing holiday songs, gift-giving, and decorations. Beyond those signs of the season is the joy of walking with Jesus each and every day. Jesus comes to us to live, die, and live again so we can receive forgiveness, healing, and His abiding presence each day.
Pastor Matt Grubb, December 21, 2025
What do you do when your Christmas isn't perfect?Shouldn't Christmas be perfect? Presents under the tree, stockings by the fireplace, family you actually like being around...the problem is, all those things you see in the movies rarely happen in real life. This week, Brian Tome shows us how Clark Griswold's pursuit of a perfect Christmas in the classic, Christmas Vacation, mirrors what a lot of us are looking for in the Christmas season. The only problem is: the first Christmas wasn't perfect to begin with. Join us as we learn about a God who makes perfection out of chaos. Recorded live at Crossroads Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Maintaining Christmas Joy by Dr. Connie Borden
We welcome joy because the King has come for all nations. The Magi's journey of joy reflects the global reach of God's salvation — outsiders are invited to rejoice at the birth of Israel's true King.
In this short Christmas season episode, I share the legend behind the candy cane and how it points us back to Jesus. We talk about the difference between temporary holiday happiness and the true joy found only in Christ. With Paul's letter to the Philippians as our guide, we're reminded to stay rooted in joy, contentment, and the real gift of Christmas.
Our brother James Colaw brings our week 3 sermon of advent, Joy.
Christmas joy is far more than hearing holiday songs, gift-giving, and decorations. Beyond those signs of the season is the joy of walking with Jesus each and every day. Jesus comes to us to live, die, and live again so we can receive forgiveness, healing, and His abiding presence each day.
Joy doesn't deny the darkness; it defies it. In this week's message, we explore the overlooked Christmas stories of Simeon and Anna to discover a kind of joy that exists alongside grief, waiting, and uncertainty — a joy anchored in Jesus rather than present circumstances. What if joy isn't about pretending everything is fine, but choosing hope when it's not?
What if joy isn't found where we've been told to look, but when God restores us in the midst of our trials? "And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord." - Luke 2:8-11 NIV If you would like to partner with us, please visit: https://myloh.church/give
Week 3 Advent Christmas - Joy The Angel's song Luke 2 Pastor Rhodes - trimmed by Patrick Rhodes
Listen to the third message in our Christmas series for 2025!
This year, Christmas is going to be on December 25. Surprise! And this is how we're going to celebrate it: We're going put up trees with ornaments. We're going to bake cookies & open presents. And we're going to sing songs, put up decorations, and send out Christmas cards with Hope, Peace, Joy and Love splattered all over them. It will be the same as every other year, and that's a big part of what makes it special. We love the traditions of Christmas. But they can sometimes feel rote and routine. What if we could experience it all anew again? Like a Kid at Christmas… Learn more about Mountaintop Church at https://mountaintopchurch.com
Continuing with the series, Irreverent Christmas, Pastor Dustin Clegg walks us through Luke 1:1-25 as we talk about the Joy in Silence. We see that God's word to us is not based on the abilities, past or current circumstances, talents (or lack of them), or personalities of the hearer, but in the power of the One who speaks it. We must learn this! We also realize that we easily forget that God's Word is not just for the whole world, but for us (me and you).
Pastor Nate brings the message, "Christmas Joy” from Psalm 4 and John 15:1-11. The season with all of its festivities is ramping up as we get closer and closer to Christmas. Christmas parties, choir concerts, and gift exchanges are putting smiles on our faces. But, does God give us a joy that goes beyond the thrills of the season? Yes, He does and on Sunday we'll study this theme of Biblical joy.
Perhaps you've heard of fleeting joy, a temporary breeze of positivity that is cherished for the brief moment that it lands on you. Our study today tackles the idea of complete joy. Complete sounds better than fleeting. Let's explore these types of joy in this study.Phil 2:2
Brian From reflects on the emotional rollercoaster of sports fandom, Time Magazine’s Person of the Year, and why dark chocolate might help you live longer—even if he refuses to eat it. He explores the deeper spiritual challenge of Christmas: not consumerism or secularism, but our own boredom with the most astonishing story ever told. The episode closes with a sobering look at the Michigan football scandal as a reminder that sin always destroys—and the gospel always restores.
