The Notion Podcast – Episode 5170 delivers an unfiltered look at some of today's most talked-about cultural conversations. We start by breaking down the concept of “pick me” culture—where it stems from, how it's shaped by gender dynamics, and why it continues to spark division, especially among women. This leads us into the backlash surrounding Phylicia Rashad, as some women criticize her for comments they feel are outdated or dismissive of modern femininity. But is the critique fair, or is there wisdom in what she's saying? We then examine a deeper social question: Are certain Black and Brown communities in America being socially conditioned to glorify dysfunction? We unpack what it means to be “raised ghetto,” and the systems—both internal and external—that contribute to this mindset. Next, we dissect Donald Trump's latest outrageous statement claiming that undocumented immigrants should be allowed to finish their work in farms and hotels, and then be sent back to apply for citizenship the “right way.” What does this say about the value placed on immigrant labor, and how does it align with America's long-standing issues with immigration hypocrisy? The episode also covers Netflix's latest reality dating experiment—a show where contestants pop balloons as part of a love-finding process. While intended to be playful, it's being roasted online for being ridiculous, tone-deaf, and, according to some, racially insensitive. We explore the backlash and ask: is the criticism rooted in the format, or something deeper? Finally, we close with the ongoing public discourse around Lauren London. After stating she's not interested in dating post-Nipsey Hussle, some fans have criticized her, suggesting that she's holding onto a fantasy of love. Others question why they were never married if their bond was so deep. We discuss the layers of grief, loyalty, and public entitlement when it comes to how we view celebrity relationships.
After winning three (!) Tonys for his play Appropriate, Branden Jacobs Jenkins is back on Broadway with another epic family drama: Purpose. This time, it's directed by the one-and-only Phylicia Rashad (swoon) and centers a Black Political elite who finds themselves at a crossroads. Chloe and Vogue's Features Editor Marley Marius talk with Branden about identity, writing characters for the stage and how he feels about being back in the Condé Nast offices after his long-ago stint at The New Yorker.PLUS: How does Trump's Tariffs affect customers and the fashion industry? Wednesday Worship - Phylicia Rashad by Emmanuel Baptist Church, San Jose, CA
In this episode of The She Said It First Podcast, hosts Jerrilyn Lake aka Indeskribeabull and Lynee’ Monae discuss a variety of topics, but first Lynee’ and Jerrilyn tell the fans What Irritated Them This Week. This week, Jerrilyn is what irritated Lynee’ Monae. Jerrilyn and her trip to Columbia with her family is what set Lynee’ off because all of the fun Jerrilyn was having without her. Jerrilyn and Lynee’ then switched their attention to Jess Hilarious and The Breakfast Club. Jess Hilarious was not happy about what has been happening on The Breakfast Club since she returned from maternity leave. Jess believes that Loren LaRosa was not supposed to be a fourth mic on the show and and does not want to fight for speaking time. Well Jess went to IG Live and let everyone know how she felt and then went to work the next day like nothing happened. Speaking of The Breakfast Club, Phylicia Rashad made a visit to the show and spoke about the young women today dressing too revealing and not leaving anything to imagination of men. While Jerrilyn and Lynee respect Ms. Phylicia Rashad, they did not agree with what she had to say about the way women dress. The host also spoke about Target dropping many Black owned vendors in their store due to their diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and Tabitha Brown’s response. Tabitha Brown has come under scrutiny about not boycotting Target but now it seems like she may be on the chopping block as well in Target. Also, are you having sex on the first date. Jerrilyn and Lynee’ discuss their position on sex on the first date. My grandfather Wally Ashby is not only my favorite Howard graduate, but one of the proudest HU grads I know. That oldhead pride is something different! My grandfather and I are like the same person; I consider him one of my best friends, which is why I always try to involve him in projects like this and why I could not wait to get this episode out. Wally attended Howard University from 1966-1970--right at the peak of the Civil Rigjhts Movement, the assassinations of MArtin Luther King and the Kennedys, the rise of the Black Power Movement and more. He attended classes with Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad. Revolutionaries like Kwame Toure and Queen Mother Moore would hold rallies on campus. Homecomings meant a chance to see the Temptations live in concert for FREE. On this very special family episode of We See You, Wally takes us inside the world of 1960s Howard University, and shows us why this institution is such a cultural force in the Black American experience. Jason Statham is The Beekeeper. Requests were pouring in for us to cover this ridiculous action movie so we did. David Ayer directs and Kurt Wimmer writes (he also was one of the credited writers on Expend4bles). The movie features bees and honey and plenty of bee talk. Statham is an actual beekeeper on the property of Phylicia Rashad. When Phylicia Rashad gets fooled into a phishing scam and loses all her money she shoots herself. This sets Statham out on a John Wick-style quest for revenge. It left some Lodgers laughing and other Lodgers screaming, “Not the bees!”. The movie also stars Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, and Jeremy Irons!

What's up, dudes? The 61st Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was held on November 26, 1987, in New York City, and shown to viewers live on NBC and CBS that same day from 9 a.m. to 12 noon EST, with the NBC broadcast being hosted by Willard Scott and Mary Hart. The participating celebrities included the likes of Rita Coolidge, The Oak Ridge Boys, Bobby Vinton, Phylicia Rashad, Judy Kaye and Jill Schulz. The weather for the 1987 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade proved to be picture perfect for the several thousand participants that brought the 61st "Holiday Treat for Children Everywhere" to life. The 2.1-million spectators that lined the streets took a course in balloon watching as 10 giant balloons flew above them, four of which were new - Spider-Man, Ronald McDonald, Snoopy, and Snuggle. The debutants joined the balloon versions of Garfield, Woody Woodpecker, Superman, and a myriad of other helium giants. Following the Albertville High School Aggie Band's entrance into the concrete canyons was a cavalcade of merry marchers, fantasy floats and comical clowns. The hit musical, Les Misérables, performed a number for the NBC telecast, and Rita Coolidge sang "Your Love Is Lifting Me Higher" from high atop the Turkeyfloat. Jim Henson and Willard Scott were also honored with a Macy's-sanctioned Rollie Award - Henson for 11 years of Muppet participation in the Parade, with Willard's Rollie for seven years of Parade participation. Patrick Swayze trotted down Broadway on his very own Arabian stallion, and Bobby Vinton rode--or flew, rather--an airplane float from Trans World Airlines. Capping off the morning of fantasy-filled fun was Santa Claus, as always, who wished everyone a happy holiday season from his snow goose sleigh to start the 1987 holiday seasonCheck us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com!
