It's a very special episode of the Grenade this week as Jammie Ward joins Ray Russell to discuss the behind the scenes battle between the WWF and their WrestleMania V "Mega Powers Explode" PPV event being challenged by the Ted Turner led NWA's Clash of the Champions VI "Ragin' Cajun" event featuring Steamboat vs. Flair. Topics discussed on the program include the REAL reason the NWA ran the famed April 2nd event, how the cable and PPV companies themselves played a part in resuming the wrestling war, what got George Scott terminated as booker and how things changed for the better. Plus, we break down the Clash VI card, the talent involved, the return of Roddy Piper, what the Mega Powers storyline meant to even the most casual of fans, and much more! We are deep in the Lex Luger World Championship reign and well, it's feeling a little out of place. Not one but TWO huge title changes, and perhaps the best WCW tag match ever performed. It might be the hellscape that is 1991 but we're heading towards perhaps WCW's most underrated year ever. Then again, we have BattleBowl to get through...Jim is on social media over at:https://bsky.app/profile/thejimdb.bsky.socialhttps://www.threads.com/@thejimdbThe Troubles feeds are:https://www.threads.com/@troubleswres https://bsky.app/profile/troubleswres.bsky.socialhttps://www.instagram.com/troubleswres/https://x.com/TroublesWres This is a public episode. When I tell you this was one of the roughest watches so far, it isn't hyperbole. Jim and I navigate the dark waters of 1991 and perhaps it'll aid you in your quest to find out what time period was the worst for WCW because I can't imagine anything beating this one. Greg and Dane begin their first real-time arc here on The Squared Circle Time Machine as they review a storyline from 1994-95 WCW. It's the August 1994 episode of the Clash of the Champions featuring the big rematch from Bash at the Beach between Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair for the WCW title! But this rematch may be ruined by a man in a mask pulling a Nancy Kerrigan on the Hulkster brother! Can Hogan walk five blocks from the hospital to his match with the Nature Boy in time? We also got Dusty and Dustin Rhodes battling Col. Rob Parker's Stud Stable, along with an epic US title match between Ricky Steamboat and Steve Austin among others!
As the podcast looks back at important and significant events from history it seemed only fitting that we included the first ever Clash of the Champions TV special- an event famous for its main event where WCW World Champion, Ric Flair, battled Sting in a match where Sting became a made man having been presented as 'The Nature Boy's equal throughout. There was much more to the event than just the headlining contest however, and this week, we take you through it all. The Random Wrestling Review is brought to you this week by Old Man, Alex and Tinky.
Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
We head back to the 80's on a nostalgia trip. See Flair and Steamboat build to one of their classics. On the other side we see some of the seeds of an all time classic as well as the Mega Powers bubble towards explosion. Andre and Jake continue their feud, Ax takes on Smash, maskless jobbers get plenty of offense and somehow the super pose down is still going. Enjoy.

It's time to fire up the WWE Network, press mute, and relive the... well... the not so good days of WCW in 1994. When you think of WCW don't you always think of Brutus Beefcake, the Honky Tonk Man, Hacksaw, and Earthquake? Me either. Well they're here now but guess who's not? Ric Flair. He lost a retirement match at Halloween Havoc in a failed attempt to pop a huge buyrate for WCW. Hogan's huge contract is set to expire at the end of the year, Savage is negotiating to come in, and there's a shakeup in the booking committee. Meanwhile Missy Hyatt is suing, Steamboat is fired, house shows are drawing 600 paid, Crockett is trying to start back up, the graphics department thinks Sherri is managing everyone, oh and Dave Sullivan is in the main event. "Juvi, I'm gonna need to go down to Mexico and bring back some of that Tijuana tar." Your hosts, Jeff Macanovich and Jaime Cavazos, invite Junior back to drink some beers and wrap up the SERIES FINALE of Clash of the Champions. Along the way, the guys discuss what it would sound like if Dusty sent Juvi to Mexico to mule heroin for Frank Gallagher ref, reminisce about the time Konnan had his bumper ripped off while attempting to drag Big Bertha out of a ditch and Cynthia joins us some Grease and 90s country talk during the main event. On this episode of The Lawcast our hosts revist WCW Clash of the Champions: Fall Brawl 1990.
"Mongo has a very flat ass. I know we're all thinking it, I had to say it." Your hosts, Jeff Macanovich and Jaime Cavazos, invite Junior back to drink some beers and watch the first half of the SERIES FINALE of Clash of the Champions. Along the way, the guys ponder what would happen if Gunther was given Alex Wright's gimmick, cheer on the possibility of Stevie Richards exposing a testicle and marvel at the further adventures of referee Frank Gallagher. We probably said something witty and quote-worthy but shit's been cray and I did not get a chance to preview this week's episode. Your hosts, Jeff Macanovich and Jaime Cavazos, drink some beers and watch the second half of Clash of the Champions 34. Along the way, the guys continue to celebrate every minute of Dusty Rhodes on commentary, welcome a fun new tag team and (probably) talk more crap about Terry. The guys enjoyed beers from 18th Street Brewery. New episodes drop every Tuesday morning and follow the show @WorkTheArmPod, on Twitter, Instagram and (I guess) Threads.
