AD Free listening and more: https://www.patreon.com/c/Footballforkids Ruben Amorim is the current manager of Manchester United, but his journey started long before that. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, he grew up playing football on the streets and was even a talented roller hockey player. His dad, known as "The King of the Keys," always made sure he got to training, and Ruben's smart thinking and leadership stood out from a young age. After setbacks in his early career, Ruben fought his way back to Benfica, where he played for several years and won many trophies. But it was as a manager that he really made a name for himself—leading Sporting Lisbon to success and becoming one of Europe's most exciting coaches. Now, at just 40 years old, he's taken on the challenge of managing Manchester United. Will he bring success to the club? Only time will tell... Learn more about your ad choices. Have you seen the news? Manchester City are losing football matches. A lot of them. They lost to Juventus in the Champions League on Wednesday, their seventh defeat in 10 matches across all competitions. They lost to Bournemouth, Sporting Lisbon, Brighton, Tottenham (twice), Liverpool. They've won just once since October 27.It's almost unspeakable turmoil for a Pep Guardiola team, unprecedented in his career across the Premier League, the Bundesliga, and La Liga. On the question of how the champions of England can dig themselves out of it, the Catalan does not seem to have the answers. He was clawing at his own nose. Now he's shell-shocked on the sideline.Of course, no City scandal can compare to Manchester United's state of affairs. They've been a disaster for a decade, cycling through players and managers and—just recently—sporting directors without much to show for it. That FA Cup victory over these opponents back in May seems a long ways away now, and the decision to re-hire Erik ten Hag on the back of it has been confirmed as a calamitous one.Now they've got another promising young coach in Ruben Amorim, but he's fast discovered the scale of the task here. The Red Devils have lost two on the bounce and slipped to 13th in the Premier League. Considering the sheer amount of money spent, the players trotting out onto that Old Trafford pitch are simply not good enough. This Sunday, they'll trot out across town at the Etihad, and their best hope is that their opponents are in their own kind of disarray.Joining us to preview this peculiar Manchester derby is Adam Monk, a presenter for FourFourTwo, DAZN, and BBC Manchester who's a devout City fan.If you're enjoying The Football Weekend, please leave us a rating and review! It will help spread the good word. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

We beat Everton 4-0. We meet two Sporting Lisbon fans at the game. And the Editor is disgusted and lets rip at the £66 ticket change. The independent, satirical Manchester United supporters' fanzine - for adults only, contains expletives, talks MUFC, or not at times, as we reflect on a shameful decision by our own club to punish the future support. Laurie brings us the latest details from the negotiations between Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United with a deal apparently agreed for the release of Ruben Amorim to join the club. But, it won't be an immediate move and there are still elements to sort out including the transfer of some assistants and coaching staff.Ruud van Nistelrooy, then, will continue as interim boss and things started very well for him as Leicester City were dispatched from the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night. His side led 4-2 at half-time and hit five in all, albeit not without a bit of luck here and there. What next for Ruud; will he stay on under Amorim? We consider his future, answer a selection of your questions about an eventful week, and look ahead to a huge match against Chelsea (and, frankly, Cole Palmer) this weekend. Hosted on Acast. Jimbo's joined by his continental crew - Pol Ballús, James Horncastle, Julien Laurens and Seb Stafford-Bloor - to look back on a seismic week of European action - and all the fallout from Monday night's Ballon d'Or ceremony which has left Real Madrid rather unhappy… We dive into the big news coming out of Old Trafford - that Manchester United are working on a deal to appoint Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim as their new head coach. Portuguese journalist David Novo brings us the latest. There was pandemonium at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday night as La Liga leaders Barcelona thrashed their fierce rivals in El Clasico to move six points clear at the top of the table. It was also a week to forget for Atléti, beaten 1-0 at Betis which means they're 10 points off the pace despite their record summer spending. There was also chaos in Serie A, with the Derby d'Italia finishing 4-4 between Juventus and Inter. Napoli took advantage to extend their lead at the top to 4 points after their narrow 1-0 win over Lecce. Bayern Munich responded to their midweek mauling by Barcelona by dishing out a 5-0 defeat to Bochum, while Dortmund were condemned to their third straight away Bundesliga defeat at the hands of Augsburg AND Leverkusen got Leverkusened - conceding a 90th minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen. And in Ligue 1, PSG are now the only unbeaten side in the division as they comfortably disposed of Marseille 3-0, while Monaco and Lens both tasted defeat for the first time this season. As Liverpool's search for a new manager to succeed Jurgen Klopp this summer continues, Reds legend Didi Hamann speaks to the Liverpool ECHO's Theo Squires in a special episode of the Blood Red podcast. Hamann has his say on who could replace Klopp after the Reds cooled interest in Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim, while he shares his thoughts on his former team-mate Xabi Alonso's decision to spurn interest from Liverpool to stay put at Bayer Leverkusen. After Jose Mourinho was spotted at the Reds' recent win over Fulham, Hamann pondered whether the Portuguese really could make an unthinkable move to Anfield. Meanwhile, the German also opens up on his previous public clashes with Klopp, assesses Liverpool's £150m midfield overhaul and the success of their three arrivals from the Bundesliga, before looking ahead to Wednesday's Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. Hello Rank Squad! The talk of the football world right now seems to be the fact that Liverpool are reportedly closing in on their next manager - Rúben Amorim of Sporting CP, who became the leading candidate once Xabi Alonso made it clear that he planned on remaining at Bayer Leverkusen for at least one more season. Amorim is a young coach with a high pedigree, and someone we talked about a little bit on our recent episode ranking young up-and-coming managers, but we wanted to go into a little bit more depth this time round. In Part One, Dean discusses the situation as it stands right now, and a little bit on which journalists you should be following for the on-the-minute exclusive news surrounding Liverpool's pursuit of the Portuguese. In Part Two, Jack dissects three questions Amorim would need to answer should he start next season in the Anfield dugout, and three strengths of his that should mesh nicely with the Liverpool squad as it stands, as well as the ethos of the club. And in Part Three, Dean's Guru Wisdom is tested as he tries to give Reds fans a helping hand on their way to find an appropriate chant for their potential next boss. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
Chris and Josh are back for another Deep Dive to discuss the new favourite for the Liverpool manager job that will be vacant in the summer.
