Daniel Chavez, Electrical Engineer and native from Las Milpas shares about having to work since he was 10 years old. He grew up in a migrant home with many obstacles, but his biggest adversity was being poor. It was an electrical shock that triggered his interest in electricity and years later he turned it into a career. Mr. Chavez talks about his faith in God, and how He has blessed him in every aspect of his life. Some life advice he shares is to hang around with the right people, the best books out there are the people with knowledge, it's important to give back to the community, live a simple life, be an integral person, respect people, and help others. Everything he does is with one goal in mind, going to heaven when he dies. He's also a businessman and a community member that makes an impact in others every day. Some examples are, opening his company doors to the local PSJA school district for job shadowing, provide scholarships, share knowledge, and more!

Building a new Eskom: Fully Public and Serving the People with Daniel Chavez, Sean Sweeney and Brian Ashley The crisis at ESKOM must not be used to further liberalise and privatise the energy sector. The proposal to break-up ESKOM into different companies WILL lead to greater privatisation of the energy sector. Electricity will become more expensive and jobs will be lost. Another strategy is possible and necessary. A “New Eskom” is necessary. Eskom must remain publicly owned, but it must be radically transformed and the process of corporatization and marketization that began in the late 1980s must be reversed. AIDC together with NUMSA, NUM and other trade unions, supported by Trade Unions for Energy Democracy and Transnational Institute are developing proposals for addressing the crisis of ESKOM in ways that enhance energy democracy and a just transition to a low carbon development path. With inputs from Daniel Chavez (TNI), Sean Sweeney(TUED) and Brian Ashley (AIDC)
There is a crisis in Venezuela. The country teeters on the brink of total economic and social collapse. There is civil unrest, hospitals and supermarkets are empty, and there is a very real possibility of an invasion led by the United States of America. The Bolivarian revolution, which is the political process initiated by the late president Hugo Chavez, has not borne its promised fruits. What happened in Venezuela, and what is in store for the country and its people? What lessons are there for the left? Brian Cordova on Poodles, PCA and the Definition of “Poodly” Brian Cordova and Daniel Chavez with CH DANFOUR AVALON after winning Best of Breed at PCA. Miniature Poodle breeder Brian Cordova visits with host Laura Reeves about all things “poodly,” PCA (hint, Christmas in April!) and meeting “god.” Poodle Club of America, currently hosted at Purina Farms in Missouri, in the early days was an outdoor event on the East Coast, for many years in Maryland. Cordova said the decorations at Purina Farms will make it seem like the dogs are being shown at a park, but with the convenience of being indoors. Poodles, while attracting luminaries of purebred dogs, can be controversial, Cordova said, because of the trim. The continental clip, which served a function for the breed when retrieving waterfowl, is just window dressing he added. “Ignore the trim and look at the legs and bones and what you’d judge on any other dog,” Cordova said. “The dog has to be sound. The rest of it is just fancy. When you say ‘poodly,’ people know what that means. It’s carriage and distinction.” Cordova shows Cha Cha, Ch. Bragabout Dancing Mistress to RWB under “god” Anne Rogers Clark, at PCA. “Cha Cha was a group winner from the classes and was RWB here at PCA in a Gigantic entry of toy bitches. She was defeated by a Delorch bitch from Am. Bred who then won BOV handled by Diane Artigues,” Cordova said. Cordova remembers his singular visit to the home of Anne Rogers Clark, while he was an apprentice for legendary handler Tim Brazier. The team was showing Clark’s Poodles at the time. There, on “god’s” refrigerator, was a picture of Cordova with Mrs. Clark’s dog. “It was spine tingling,” Cordova said. Much of the excitement in Poodles today surrounds the Standard variety, but Cordova said miniatures used to be the popular variety. “There would be hundreds of (miniatures) entered everywhere,” Cordova said. “But PRA blindness decimated the variety. They really took a tough turn.” Fortunately, he said miniatures had largely separate gene pools for black/brown and white colors. Breeders were able to cross the color gene pools to help clear the problems and build back. When testing for PRA became available, Cordova said that made a huge difference for the variety. Cordova shared PCA memories going back 30 years of dogs and people. He vividly describes a memory of standing on a field dripping in sweat, watching miniatures, while the judge ran two outstanding bitches of the day against each other. Support this podcast

This week's addition to the Fatsoenlijke Serie Guest Collectie comes from Mondaine. Though stretching the boundaries of the Fatsoenlijke Serie sound, DCOMPLEXITY and Mondaine provided a pair of really great mixes that offer some variety to the sound of the collection. Start your week off right with some complex and sonically dense mixes from the duo who make up FUSION. Bio: DComplexity x Mondaine [FUSION] The philosophy and concept of FUSION dates back to Daniel Chavez aka DComplexity’s childhood; Growing up in Los Angeles listening to jazz and hip hop, as well as dancing, breakdance and footwork. His father was the one who instilled in him knowledge of the guitar and musical theory, from there Daniel went his own way obtaining more electronic music experience interacting with other musicians without going to music school. In the early nineties he immersed himself into techno, house, acid jazz, trance, jungle, bass & rave culture; Performing actively at underground events and clubs throughout California and in 11 countries around the globe.; He was also the original dj and co-founder of Moontribe the well known Southern California desert full moon gatherings. From 97 until 2009 he started and managed a label called Automat Records. In the process he gained the knowledge to produce his own vinyl and digital releases with over 30+ releases. After 2009 he took a break from music production and presentations to devote himself to re-absorbing knowledge of the musical underground. This weeks addition to the Fatsoenlijke Serie Guest Collectie comes from Daniel Chavez. Though stretching the boundaries of the Fatsoenlijke Serie sound, Daniel Chavez and Mondaine provided a pair of really great mixes that offer some variety to the sound of the collection. Start your week off right with some complex and sonically dense mixes from the duo who make up FUSION. This week, the curse has struck again! But not to be held down, Chris brings another special "Curse Edition" of History Creeps. This week, he's joined by his wife Erin as they delve into the Curse of the Crying Boy Paintings. When Bruno Amadio first painted his crying children to sell to tourists in 1950s Venice, little did he know that decades later the pieces would become the focal point of a sinister curse that was rumored to leave the homes of anyone who owned a painting in ashes. Were these paintings of crying children really cursed? Or was this a ploy by a tabloid to sell more papers? Check out this special "Curse Edition" of History Creeps and decide for yourself! A very special thank you to Andrew Koed, Trevor Franklin, Anthony Savas, Daniel Chavez, Christopher Kellogg, Val McInnis-Mason, Michael Thomson, Samantha Cunningham, Jessica Walters, Lauren Lewis, Elyce Capriani, Christopher Marriott, Sean Eric Cooper and all of our History Creeps supporters! You guys are the creepiest!!!!!
Daniel Chavez, an economist with Texas A&M Agri-life Extension program, talks about his work helping small-acreage farms and growers link up with local restaurants. In the second half of the program, Chris Seals presents his new Austin distillery, Still Austin. His focus will be white whiskey which explores the different terroirs and heirloom grain varieties of Texas. All 'grain to glass' and a lot of experimentation!
