In episode 52 of the 4D Athletes podcast, Jason and Jim are joined by author and MLB pitcher Daniel Ponce De Leon Daniel Ponce de Leon's hard-fought journey to Major League Baseball and recovery from a near-death injury, followed by his astonishing big league debut, will inspire readers to trust God in all circumstances. The path you take to achieving your dreams is not always easy. Daniel Ponce de Leon, an acclaimed pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, overcame many challenges to get to the Major Leagues. Drafted four times, he spent a long four years climbing his way up through the minors before finally reaching AAA, only one step away from the Major Leagues. Then, Daniel's dream was almost shattered when he was struck in the head by a line drive. Spending weeks in the hospital and months recovering from a large epidural hematoma, skull fracture, brain swelling, and hemorrhaging, Daniel held on to his belief that he would one day realize his dream. Fourteen months later, and fully recovered, he made his first Major League start, becoming the fifth pitcher in modern Major League history to throw seven innings of no-hit ball in his first outing. MLB.com referred to it as one of the greatest debuts in Major League Baseball history. In One Line Drive, Daniel retells his remarkable journey, sharing how he never would have made it without his faith in God and the support of family and friends. Full of grit, determination, and faith, Daniel's story is an inspiring reminder to keep pressing on regardless of any setback or disappointment. So he'd talk to me about it, and I didn't really understand most of the things. But you know, later on in my life as I read the Bible, all the words that he told me before now kind of are coming together, and I'm starting to understand that even more.” - Daniel Ponce de Leon “On good days and bad days, I need God.” - Daniel Ponce de Leon “I believe the whole journey that He put me through was different ways of God chastening me.” - Daniel Ponce de Leon “I'm using my baseball talents to spread the gospel and I'm able to talk with people and see their connection, their walk with God, and hopefully bring them closer and hopefully just bring us all as a church closer.” - Daniel Ponce de Leon “My dream was to escape the turmoil and the abuse within my family. And I just was trying to figure out how the heck to get out of that mess because nothing was getting better.” - Lanny West “I felt like I had to continue drinking and doing these drugs because people expected me to be a certain way, this entertainer, this radio DJ. And so I got hung up in it and I couldn't get out of it.” - Lanny West “Even though I didn't know my real father, there was a Father that was watching out for me…I don't miss having a cocktail. I don't miss drinking. I don't miss cocaine. I don't miss any of that because I'm filled with God's spirit, and that's the most important thing in my life right now.” - Lanny West “I knew at that moment that the spirit had entered me and that God had finally shaken me to the point where I realized that I could not go on in my life without Him.” - Lanny West ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PrbuwH Video Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PsmEkJ What's Good? Daniel Ponce De Leon is a professional baseball player, husband, father and author. Daniel wrote a book entitled One Line Drive, about his return to pitching after being hit in the head on the mound in AAA. He suffered a major brain injury and subsequent surgery/rehab. The story is about perseverance, family, faith, baseball, and triumph over tragedy that is extremely relatable to any person who has ever been told they weren't good enough, or someone who has regained their passion for God, or someone who has had relationship issues that they had to work through to become better people. It is also a behind the scenes look at a current Major League Baseball player and what goes through their preparation to be the best. Daniel connects with Lou Diamond and shares his story on Thrive LOUD. Daniels book "One Line Drive" is available on March 9th, 2021 by clicking this link. *** CONNECT TO LOU DIAMOND & THRIVE LOUD

We ended our third year of pawdcasting in style with two of the biggest guests in pawdcast history. We talked to Kellen Sampson about the exciting crop of newcomers, that damn Jordan Poole shot, and the program-altering implications of avoiding last place in '14-'15. We also spoke with 3-time NCAA champion Cameron Burrell. He talked about his Olympic hopes, made a bold prediction for next year's UH team, and told us who'd win a race between himself and his dad. The past two weeks also saw Daniel Poncedeleon throw 7 no-hit innings (!!) in his major-league debut (!!!) and football make noise in recruiting.

Ever want to hear a couple of Cardinal bloggers react to news in basically real time? That's what you've got this week as Daniel (C70 At The Bat, @C70) and Allen (Red Dirt Redbird, @amedlock1) sit down to record right as the Cardinals completely overhaul their bullpen. This wasn't just getting a couple of tires rotated, this was reworking the whole engine. (Please note, I am not a car guy so this is as far as I can go with the analogy.) Sam Tuivailala? Traded. Greg Holland? Nice knowing you. Brett Cecil? Conveniently spared by the DL. Then there was Tyler Lyons. #70. The #PatronPitcher, going the same route as Holland. Somehow, Daniel was able to hold back the tears. Plenty of new faces as well. Luke Weaver returns, as does Daniel Poncedeleon from his short trip back after his no-hit debut. This weekend will also see the first Cardinal apperances by Tyler Webb (not quite the same, Cardinals) and Dakota Hudson as the Cards mull what else to do before the 4 PM Tuesday deadline. The guys also give their thoughts on whether some Cardinals will be still here on August 1 and what the news about Chris Archer being a target means. It might be a bit jumbled, but it's a thorough look at everything that's happened!
